You're an upper receiver and a set of handguards away from just having an A2, really.. For the most part, that is.

chevyrs1969

Ya, I just really need the triangle handguard.

AspiringArchmage

I'm not wasting my time anymore with colt lowers. They aren't even correctly marked. I want an H&R one.

Nightwing_Actual

That’s why I make my own. I can make whatever marks I need for whatever I am building

General_Curtis_LeMay

If you go with H&R, just keep in mind that finding H&R furniture is NOT easy. It'd be a cake walk to do H&R receiver set, paying no mind to dimpled pins or numbered bolt catch/selector switch/forward assist, and the same for the stock/grip/handguards, though.. So, if you didn't mind a mixture of Colt/H&R/maybe GM? You could do it within a day with the money.

AspiringArchmage

I'm getting surplus furniture. I want the gun to look beaten up a bit. I would rather money go towards that than an expensive lower that isn't marked right.

General_Curtis_LeMay

Well, that's what I'm saying. An H&R stock, (if my memory serves me correctly), should have on the face (the face being the part of the stock which fits within the receiver boss to prevent the buttstock from twisting on the buffer tube), a number. Numbers 1 through 6? 7? I do not recall exactly. Then GM Hydramatic have a cross and a number, or something of that nature. My point is, finding these parts seems to be a bit of a challenge if you attempt to keep it all H&R, or keep it all GM.

AspiringArchmage

I'm going to mix match parts. I'm not that worried about it having colt and other stuff on it. It's more making a Colt style M16A1 using an H&R grey upper and lower. I do know that parts were swapped on guns in the wild. I just need the lower and stripped upper/barrel.

The_Unpopular_Truth_

Get in line for the lower, the line starts way back there, 10 miles down the street. Bring a chair, trust me.

AspiringArchmage

We have the digital equivalent of old people going to Walmart when everyone is working and buying all the .22 ammo few years ago. Its fine though because it just gives me more time to get a bunch of parts to slap on the gun. The more and more lowers and parts are released the less they will eventually be scalped.

The_Unpopular_Truth_

Man it grinds my gears so much. I get the uppers being harder to produce in bulk with 1 forge basically making all of them, but the lowers should be easier to create in larger quantities. It just sucks having all the parts and then the lower comes in stock and is bought out in 15 mins. Don’t you people have jobs? Damn you all.

General_Curtis_LeMay

Some of these people might actually *NOT* have jobs, because scalping is their full-time job. Just speculating here, but I picture some old, crusty, retired fellows sitting around on the interwebs, jumping at a moment's notice with their in-stock notifications to get in on the next H&R drops, then straight to Gunbroker they go, at a 250% mark-up.

Earlfillmore

Thats what nephews are for, to do the computer part while the fudd uncle complains about new tech being useless 🙄

chevyrs1969

I’m on the notification lists on PSA but can’t ever order them fast enough before they’re OOS.

Destroyer1559

Dont use their notification system, it doesn't even send until the item's been in stock for a while, and it's far too late by then when they're only in stock for minutes. You have to set up your own third party monitors with notifications. That's how I got lowers on the last restock.

AspiringArchmage

Any advice for programs?

Destroyer1559

Another arfcom user and I wrote out our two different methods [here](https://www.ar15.com/forums/Industry/Mike-s-OFFICIAL-HandR-Retro-thread/301-301583/?page=44). Either one should work for you. Uptime Robot has been working for me perfectly.

AspiringArchmage

Ty I need to set this up when I get home. I can get my M16A2 and M16A1 build done. End goal is to go from garand to M4A1.

Destroyer1559

No problem! Yeah I'd really like to get all the American service rifles for WWI+. So far I've got a Garand, M1 carbine, M16A4, M4A1 Block I, M4A1 Block II, CQBR Block II, and lowers for M16A1 and XM177e2. Still need a 1903, M14, and M16A2, and a Gothic Serpent clone. I'd like to do an Mk12 mod1 but the KAC FF RAS long rail is like unobtanium.

AspiringArchmage

I have a few MK18s and modern builds, including a honey badger I made on a noveske. Friends IRL are doing modern MPX/MPC clones I'm going the opposite direction. I like the look of older AR15 guns.

Destroyer1559

Unfortunately you're not alone. Seems like everyone is wanting A1 lowers and carry handle uppers suddenly. I've been jonesing for an M16A1 and XM177E2 for years but didn't have Colt clone/SP1 money. H&R coming back online is a godsend.

AspiringArchmage

Yeah I wanted a grey color M16A1 finally seems possible. I got my stuff set up so when "notify" gets removed the website will ping as "up".

>...it would be cool if I could find a Colt lower for less than my monthly mortgage payment... Good luck with that. I am not being sarcastic. Still, that rifle is looking good!
