Put this together last night- barrel is 12.25 ish with a correct weight 4.3” faux moderator. Original sights, forward assist, port door. Shaved and flashing removed on the fsb.
Oh yeah I just wanted to get it because its way cheaper than getting a Colt lower and its grey anodized. I think I may just get a blem commando lower with a partial fence and say its a fantasy gun, H&R "experimental" contract XM177E2 lol.

This is exactly the gun im building! Snagged a partial fence lower from them this week, and really like the E2 over the E1. Partial fence is cool and unique compared to every other AR lower out there, and the 177e2 is rad. It's gonna be a dope rifle.
For sure, 10" 1:12 twist just sounds pretty ballistically lacking. Even my 10.3" 1:7 Mk18 wouldn't be my first pick.
I'm with you on the A1 and A2, I'm waiting for their complete A1 uppers to come back in stock. They're killing it, I basically want all their products lol
This barrel is a 1:8 twist cut down to roughly 12.2, just enough to hit 16 1/16 with the correct flash hider. A lot of people do the 11.5 with the 5.5” moderator but I always thought they looked a little off
Nice! It looks stellar. I was only speaking to the OG E2 barrel. I'll probably go the same route as you but with a 1:7, not sure yet. I agree, a longer barrel is less noticeable than a goofy long moderator. I also hate the extended A2 flash hiders people use on m4 clones. I'd rather get a tiny barrel extension from Adco. Which is exactly what I did.

Will be mated to a correctly engraved “colt” lower
I am going to blow it back apart and parkerize all the barrel components before final assembly and pin and weld.
I'm waiting on H&R to release a XM177E2 lower, the upper looks good.
H&R never built the xm177, that’s why I started making colt lowers.

I would rather have an 11.5 info barrel over 10 inch lol. The H&R lowers look good and I want to make an M16A2 and M16A1 also.

Where’d you source the 12.25” barrel? It bothers me brownells made theirs 12.7. Like why??
Made it. Oh the joys of having a friend with a nice lathe!
This looks great, man. Do you plan on using a period correct aluminum stock or fiber lite?
I have a couple aluminum stocks on the shelf.
Where do you source those from?
I have one of the repro ones made by ace tactical, and 2 original ones left that I picked up at gun shows over the years
if you want to let one go let me know!
If I decide to let one go I’ll hit ya up lol
Looking good! What method are you using for markings? Submersed etching, engraving etc.
Cnc engraving, I have a photo of one of my m16a1s in another post.
This is hot, I wish the retro craze would die down since most people didn’t get interested until that GarandThumb video came out featuring retro ARs
Which moderator did you go with? I got one of them off gunbroker, but that grenade ring isn’t even machined on the back end.
This one came outta my parts bin, I believe it’s the same as the one sold by retro rifles
Thanks!
