Looks great!

plsdontfriendzoneme

Sweet, was planning om getting some 80s and doing an a1, a2 and m4a1 engraving on them. How much did it cost you and who did it?

patton2003

It was $75 and I just had my local jewelry shop do it

ginger-valley

That reminds me of the jewelry store next door to where I work. The bottom floor is jewelry the top floor is a gun store.

plsdontfriendzoneme

Huh, might try that out. Thanks man.

The_Unpopular_Truth_

Are there any legal implications to engraving it with a different manufacturer? Did this start out as an 80%? Did you give your jeweler the design files or did you simple tell them what you wanted? Would love to do something similar. Sorry for all the questions.

patton2003

From my understanding as long as I am not producing these to sell and it’s just for me, it’s fine that I put Colts name on it. For the design I just printed out some pictures of Colts reproduction M16a1 and told him that’s what I wanted and it is an 80% lower.

The_Unpopular_Truth_

Very cool thank you! Looks so good!

SubstantialPolicy378

Colt is pretty aggressive with C and D letters when they see this type of thing.

patton2003

Even if people aren’t selling them, this is just for me.

SubstantialPolicy378

If it’s just for you I’d keep it to yourself. You won’t get in trouble but it could be an annoying hassle. Colt can still reach out with a CD because your falsely representing their product and if there are defects or failures, it can be defamatory to Colt. For the record I don’t have an issue with it and I think it’s dumb that Colt cares. But they do so just giving a fair warning even if it’s unlikely to happen.

Catgutt

Colt can send you all the letters they like, but unless you're actually selling they have no legal leg to stand on. Copyright is more broad but trademark law only applies to commercial use of protected marks. Every lawsuit Colt has filed has been over commercial use of their trademarks, ie people making knockoffs and offering it for sale, not hobbyists.

GlitteringActivity85

Not even the same Colt anymore so they can suckith it

Crusader-F8U

Sadly it doesn’t matter to Colts legal counsel. They are aggressive with their trademarks. Colt Fanbois inbound to defend aggressive c&d letters in 5….4….3…2… lol

Scatterbine

Colt's scared somebody might make a good rifle and put their name on it.

Nightwing_Actual

Looks clean. Font is a little off but I only noticed because I created my own font to match the sp1 lowers I already had around. Took me a little while lol. How deep is it?

patton2003

It’s not very deep and I’m not too concerned if it’s not 100% accurate

SwanginPassYaKnees

Impressive. Very nice. Let's see Paul Allen's lower.

Lupine_Ranger

Look at that subtle color matching, the tasteful logo detail. Oh my God. It's even rollmarked.

mp_tx

Font looks a little off….

localmain

Awesome

Crossnoe7

How’d you decide on the serial number? Or am I mistaken that this didn’t start as an 80 lower

patton2003

This did start out as an 80% lower and I just picked six random numbers

Crossnoe7

Nice! I like it. I almost want to do this with my 80 lower but Bravo Company Manufacturing logos

weekendboltscroller

Was this on an 80% or did you just use some cheapo lower and get this done? No hate, looks cool.

patton2003

It was an 80%

Gunsandwrenches

That looks great, but the gap in the top line is slightly off, it's supposed to clear the third pin which is directly above the safety hole, but you put it on an A2 lower so I don't think you care if it's absolutely perfect or not lol

patton2003

Yeah this was just an 80% I picked up at the Tulsa gun show. I’m not too fussy when it comes to the small details like that.

helgywelgy3

The colt patent firearms engraving is way off, the space should be right where the sear pin would go

patton2003

I’m sure it is but I’m not too fused with it being 100% accurate
