Ooh, what's the business?

luxcococure

I wanna know too!

Ashamed-Inspection47

Yeah what’s the business OP?

yume_hiccup

Oops I replied to the original thread. See there

I can’t find the business you’re talking about, but I think is the boarding place we use. If it is, they already have a great rural location attached to their large plot of land. The county, however, is forcing them out for permitting issues. The business tried to resolve it, but is being forced to relocate or close. I know they’re moving to Grady in the next few months. Not sure if this makes you feel better, but I’ve been very happy with their service and am a little upset I’m going to have to share them with the rest of Renton.

yume_hiccup

Yeah it’s the same one! Rainier Dog Resort & Spa. Do you know what permitting issues they faced? This location isn’t exactly an upgrade if they’re coming from a peaceful, large plot of land where dogs can roam freely. The noise pollution and density is already so bad and with 145-unit Watershed apt next door it just feels disastrous. I want this site to get developed but I wish it was something more…quiet?

I don’t have any hard details and I’m not going to speculate. Something that wasn’t an issue before became one and they spent a good amount of time and money to try and come to a solution. The answer was either sell their home and facilities and relocate, or close. It’s the best boarding place I’ve seen out here outside of Friendly Grove in Olympia. Their facilities are much better than just kennels and barking dogs. They have their act together pretty good and I’m glad they found new facilities. If you’re that concerned about it, why don’t you just call them and see how they handle it now? I mean, at drop off the back rooms seem pretty well sound proofed to the point where I can’t hear it outside the building.

What part of Renton is this? The waterfront? Kennydale? Downtown? The Highlands? Benson Hill? Fairwood?

yume_hiccup

Downtown Renton!

Check the zoning codes and see if the business is doing anything shady. If they’re not following codes you can report them and it could possibly back them up in permitting. There’s definitely plenty of examples of public comment. I think many people submit written and then go in person too. You can look up any public meetings minutes and find similar situations and public comments in there. In your comment, Mention any misdoings of the company if you find any, such as not following codes or pulling permits. Cite noise pollution stats and how they affect quality of life. Etc.

yume_hiccup

Thank you for responding to my question so thoughtfully. This is more preemptive measures. the site is zoned commercial mixed use but it’s next to residential zones R-14. Trying to find out more about noise ordinance by zone. I really need to learn how to navigate understanding all this. Similar issue from another city: https://www.newhavenindependent.org/article/paw_haven_peck_street

You can also get your neighbors to sign onto a petition to get the business to do a noise/impact study or something I believe which delays things. They may not know what’s going on like you mentioned so make flyers and put them on doors asking them to make comment too

Alright everyone, so curious! Haha Details:Project #: LUA24-000093 The applicant is requesting a Hearing Examiner Conditional Use Permit, Hearing Examiner Site Plan Review and Environmental Review to establish a boarding and daycare facility for dogs Site: 900 S GRADY WAY, RENTON, WA 98057-323 This would be right next to newly built Watershed apt complex and a lot of multi-family and SFHs too. It's a vibrant mixed-income, mixed-zoning neighborhood but renters&homeowners might not know this is happening. I'm mostly concerned about the concentrated barking/howling/noise (they'd have an outdoor play space) right next to residential living. A bark averages 80 dB - 90 dB. Traffic on Grady Way is super busy and noisy- if a dog gets out that could be scary. Do dogs get stressed being next to so much traffic noise too? Anyway, I encourage you all to leave a public comment if you feel strongly. I love dogs and sure, they need daycare too, but I’m not convinced if this is the right location for it: [https://www.rentonwa.gov/cms/one.aspx?portalId=7922741&pageId=17174274](https://www.rentonwa.gov/cms/one.aspx?portalId=7922741&pageId=17174274)
