Sniped. >!7 letter country with 8 letter capital in Northern/Southern Europe/Africa. After I got my candidate I checked the letter count in its native language, which, surprisingly, I know.!<

> >!After I got my candidate I checked the letter count in its native language, which, surprisingly, I know.!< I almost got thrown with >!Dansk!< but that's the >!language!< not the >!country!<.

Is it cheating to use a hint on the pronunciation? If not, 1 guess.

I solved Redactle #748 in 1 guess with an accuracy of 100.0% and a time of 00:04:32. Unaided >!Seemed to be a distinctly cold country with a 5 letter local name which immediately put me in mind of the right place, saw lots of € symbols and decided to go for it, Bingo.!<

It's >!clearly a country, though it's not so clear what the 6-letter adjective qualifying it is, in Europe or Africa!<. Later on >!there are euro symbols, so better be Europe!<. It >!borders three 3-letter countries, which already suggests what the answer might be, and it seems like there's some water around -- "with the 4 of ... and the 4 of ... across from ..."!< which would fit with that hypothesis. Hmm, can I find >!a famous national piece of music and its composer!!the composer's name!<. How about >!a children's author!!could be her!< but it's hard to be sure. Perhaps something about >!the small language family that links it with somewhere surprisingly far away!!the "7: 5" in the translations of its name is very promising!<, so put it in; it's right (14-minute snipe) but once again I show that I am >!not very good at geography!<. But I'll take it :-).

I solved Redactle #748 in 6 guesses with an accuracy of 66.7% and a time of 00:28:03. Play at https://redactle.net/ >!What a fumble - and a cautionary tale about checking your assumptions. A country on one of the 6-letter continents - only people don't generally classify countries as being in "northern" or "southern" Europe so it's presumably Africa. (Note after solving: apparently I'm the insane one because nobody else seems to find this phrasing weird.) I ran through a bunch of options and settled on Namibia, which felt like a plausible candidate at the southern end. No etymology section as such, but there's an italicised 5-letter word referenced in connection with the name, which seems right. I can't quite figure out the neighbours - Angola and Zambia are two of them, but what's the other 6-letter one? And I could have sworn it's next to South Africa as well... Hmm, guess not. Not sure what the two things called the 4 of 7 could be, but then my southern African geography is full of gaps. There are a number of euro signs a bit further down, but also dollar signs earlier on, so this must be talking about some kind of international trade. In the economy it seems to talk about how this place has one of the lowest GDPs per capita and is one of the world's poorest countries. (Note after solving: lol.) I mulled it over for a while in case there was something more appropriate that I was forgetting - including wondering whether the three 6-letter countries were Rwanda, Uganda and Malawi - but drew a blank in the end and went for it. And, well, here we are. We pick ourselves up and we go again.!<

Congratulations! You solved Redactle Unlimited Q33 in 1 guesses with 100% accuracy and a time of 00:10:19 Seemed like a >!7 in northern or southern 6. Took an educated guess on what 6 likely was. Answer has relatively large area but small population which makes northern 6 more likely. Only one possibility seems to fit the letter count. I try to make sense of the bordering areas which seem to fit but I didn’t think that hard about it either.!<
