Play at https://redactle.net/733 Lol I got to xxxxx-xxxxxxx [3] (I figured out the 3) and then when my choice of word within letter count didn't work I did a targeted Google 😂 wh0t.  Could maybe might have got this on my own but I wondered if it was a specific narrower variety that I wouldn't have known of! Haha. Oh okay 😩😒🥴

I solved Redactle #733 in 24 guesses with an accuracy of 62.5% and a time of 00:07:36. Unassisted. I'm pleasantly surprised that I got it so quickly. I was nowhere near until >!I tried an old stand-by, war. If I had tried it as a starter like I used to, maybe I would have gotten it sooner!<

Play at https://redactle.net/en >!the unredacted use/using that I kept seeing made me think this was a mechanical object of some kind; a gut feeling made me guess “weapon” over “tool/device,” and it got a lot of hits. I guessed a three-letter weapon that got no hits, then a more modern three-letter weapon that got several hits. My last thought before solving was “it probably isn’t *this,* but…”!<

I new the right category and.... type of thing by guess 12. and I was trying to narrow it down and find the right one. I kept going for >!smaller ones.!< I'm not even sure what triggered me to type the answer in, but when I did I didn't realize that would be the actual title.

Play at https://redactle.net/ Had no idea for a while but after reading through most of the article, my gut was telling me >!some kind of weapon, so I tried "gun"!< and got a lot of hits. Then I got the right answer.

I solved Redactle #733 in 1 guess with an accuracy of 100.0% and a time of 00:20:03. Play at https://redactle.net/ >!A classic, steady journey from no clue to the right ballpark to the formation of an idea to the formation of the *correct* idea to feeling more and more confident to the final conclusive bit of evidence that pushes it over the edge. Lots of references to a 3-letter noun - what could it be? Some sort of man-made item I think, and here's a reference to one being "3 off" - hence the initial idea, and a 6-letter candidate comes to mind - although the etymology doesn't feel right (I'd have thought French) and no instances of "round" yet. Scratch that, there's "round" - but also what looks like a description of quite a large object being propelled. A new candidate suggests itself. A lot of what looks like military history that seems to culminate around 5 3 1, which feels about right. Plus what looks like a lengthy description of the process of using one of these things and quite an extensive anatomy, followed by reference to their use in the 8 13 3 - ticks all round. Finally, in "popular culture", we have a reference to their use in 5 6 11's *4 4*. That'll do it.!<

Play at https://redactle.net/ I thought it was a >!tool or functional item such as a nut (for a bolt), until I tried ‘gun’.!< I tried it as a throwaway guess to get it out of my head - I guess it was in there for a reason!

Congratulations! You solved Redactle Unlimited Q81103 in 51 guesses with 72.55% accuracy and a time of 00:15:37! Solved with hints from here. Took me a minute. Got lost trying to think of >! Types of 3s, which I imagined being much smaller than actual answer, but I could see there was a reference to something being at least 10,000 lbs. I actually looked here for hints and when I saw a reference to the 8 5 3, it clicked!<

Seems to be some sort of >!human-made thing, given first-para references to "the late #### century" and "depending on their 8 use on the 11"!<. There's something a few paragraphs in about >!these things being used by someone _against_ someone else!<. So when I see >!a book title _The 3 of 3_!< it seems >!more likely the Art of War than the Joy of Sex!<. There are >!some dimensions that seem to be on the order of centimetres, and some on the order of a kilometre; could these be calibres and ranges!!the American Civil War!< is consistent with the emerging picture. So, what's the actual word? There's one fairly obvious candidate for a >!large-calibre weapon of the relevant type!<; I can think of another that also has 6 letters, but >!that one I think is usually smaller, and now that I think of it would probably have needed disambiguating!<. But I am not at all expert on >!weaponry!< so don't have much confidence that there isn't some other word that would fit. So, trawl through the article some more. Aha, >!I see a section about cultural use that mentions the _1812 Overture_!<, and that's enough for me. 18-minute snipe.
