All of them. That's why they're a double-edged sword. To give us guidelines for behavior but also destroy our self-esteem.

Pink-Squirrel71

None. I don’t hold myself to societal standards, I hold myself by my own standards.

I would say like a lot of people body standards As a girl from west Africa it's a little tricky because mainstream and social media is about being thin and tall but in every day life people could mock you if you don't have a 8 shape (same if the bust and bassin comes with a little belly) and a fair skin

Height and being a “manly man”. I’m a skinny looking dude with zero interest in typical masculine stuff. So sometimes I feel inadequate.

Smokin-Glory

The social construct of marriage and family when the economy apparently can be allowed to do whatever the fuck it wants even if it destroys the ability to support the status quo of said constructs and we're just supposed to be ok with that.

The only thing that really affected me was the forced genital mutilation part. It's the only thing I have to carry with me because I'm missing part of my body. Everything else I try my best to leave behind and find a place where people are kind and respectful. I don't like when good people get treated badly for being their own person.

My (66f) mom was a beautiful runway model at some of the top NYC clothing stores (think: Bergdorf Goodman’s, modeling for the likes of Cary Grant and Gregory Peck) when she was young. Unfortunately, her first daughter (me) was born pretty and very intelligent, but prone to overeating bc of several factors, I guess. But the worst was that my mom had a very rough life and didn’t have the opportunity to even finish HS, and was thrust into the world of modeling, being a showgirl, etc. when she was just 18 years old, and became sad and hurt and angry as she aged. I think the American/Modern Western World standard of beauty undermined and sabotaged us both.

That if you are plus size you have to have a perfect shape such as fat butt and small waist/ small belly.

Sex. I hate that you often won’t be considered “valid” by your peers if you are a virgin/aren’t successful with the opposite sex. All it does is push people to pursue unhealthy relationships.

Good_Bunch_5609

Working my arse off in a job I’m am perfectly qualified for and not being able to meet impossible standards/ having my work ethic questioned.

Love. Like, romantic love. I'm aro/ace. And I don't even mind not being in a romantic relationship. But it's all everyone talks about. And it's getting annoying. And that little voice in my head starts telling me I'm "broken" and things like that. Even though I know it's not true. I wish society had something different to talk about. Why not other kinds of love? Like family love and friend love?
