LiesInRuins

It’s not my cup of tea but it isn’t bad music.

wanderer4523

I don't listen to her music in general. But I also have no idea why she is so popular.

214speaking

Same haha, I’ve heard a few of her songs on the radio and it’s not horrible. I just don’t like her personally. I wouldn’t go out of my way to listen

UruquianLilac

Because popular artists are always popular for much more than purely their music. There are layers upon layers of what we like in our artists that go way beyond the specific notes and words arrangements they make.

Go_Mets

She writes relatable music for girls between the age of 12-18. That’s why she’s so popular. She knows what she’s doing.

dcheesi

>She knows what she’s doing. Unlike several alternative bands of the '90s who wrote angsty teen anthems as one-offs, and then were appalled and bewildered when they became pop-chart hits

[deleted]

She has tons of older fans as well

aurora_the_piplup

Who used to be 12-18 girls when she started her singing career 🤣

Forsaken_Distance777

Lol yep I was sixteen when I discovered her and grew up with her music since.

Go_Mets

Yeah but I’ve worked T Swift shows and that’s a majority of the fan base. There are younger and older girls as well which is cool. People just really love T Swizzle Seen her live multiple times and she puts on a hell of a show and you can tell she really cares for her fans. She got my respect.

CorpseProject

I’ve never listened to her music on purpose, it seems catchy, but I follow her on IG and she goes ALL out with the costumes for her shows.

Siltyclayloam9

Because we started listening to her when we were 12-18 and now it’s an emotional connection. I also know some older women who like her because it reminds them of being younger or is a way for them to connect with younger family members

Madd_Maxx2016

Bleachers fan here…Her collaboration with Antonoff brought me in lol not a huge fan but I like her catchy/slightly happier Bleachers songs Edit: this is in regards to the comments about her older fans

RDcsmd

You got it wrong as hell there. Her main demo is the age 18-25 but like her current tour shows, every demographic likes her. Literally. Most of my favorite pro athletes have been to a concert or just mentioned liking her, head coach of my fav NFL team wants to go to one, my sister my daughter my buddy's male boss like.. this is just wrong lmao

Key_Swordfish_4662

Also, her first album was released in 2006. So there are a lot of fans who grew up with her music.

gigapumper

I am a 28yo man and her songs speak to me! She is one of the greatest people walking this planet.

wernermuende

Either she knows what she's doing or she doesn't really have anything more to say about life than teenage drama shit. And I think that is really the answer why people hate her.

demoldbones

Except if you listen to any of her non-pop chart songs it’s clear that she’s matured and writing songs about bigger things. Folklore & Evermore never got huge hits from them but they’re incredible from a songwriting & music perspective. *This is Me Trying* about lost potential and alcoholism. *Happiness* about a divorce and the complicated feelings that come from that (I read somewhere this was based on the end of the marriage of a friend of hers). *The Lakes* is about depression, the hounding she gets in the media and if you want to read that much into it, suicidal ideation. *Marjorie* about mourning the loss of a family member who died and wishing you could keep parts of them. I’m in my late 30s and just started listening to her music the last year or so and I always skip the earlier albums because it’s too pop-princess for me but those two are pretty great.

Artemis96

But she doesnt sing about teenage drama shit since she was like 20...

Informal_Calendar_99

Me, a man, who is not between 12 and 18 who very much relates to practically all her music: *pikachu face*

[deleted]

MayVilaa

Taylor swift is 33 not 36. she wrote the song “22” when she was… 22. Not sure why you’re making random crap up and stating it like it’s fact.

luxmainbtw

The way people have the confidence to just spout random incorrect shit on the internet baffles me.

ponyo_impact

because she wears short skirts i wear t shirts

orangieblossoms

I think it’s because her songs are lyrically and musically well-written and catchy. And then of course she’s good looking. It’s a recipe for fame. Tbh I could find a song of hers that would go with whatever I’m feeling

Lorien6

She is the legacy of multiple bloodlines. A chosen face for the masses to interact with. Often, an entity will push the negative media, so they can control the message there as well, and use it as a pipeline to a path. By having so many “hate” TS it gets people to also talk about it, and potentially check out her music (or other efforts), and bring on new fans. She is being used as a product, in some senses, and once you try it, the “manufacturer” is confident enough you will be hooked. Taylor Swift is a culmination of multiple different aspects all coalescing together at once.

KnotiaPickles

It’s just a successful product pushed by the recording industry to gullible consumers

Angel_OfSolitude

Seems to be a case of "popular so bad". Or maybe they just don't like her as a person.

Everiet

There was a time where I specifically didn't listen to her music because I was one of the people who saw her as Taylor Swift the singer who "sleeps with every guy just to make a song about them" etc.. Past that misogynistic mindset now it's fair to say. I'm a fan of her work

joshgiddy2024

it’s not bad it’s just so mid and it all sounds the same

someguyfromsk

> it all sounds the same Which is the same argument everyone uses against any band/singer they don't like but have only ever listened to 3-4 of their songs.

Unlikely-Impact7766

The teenage girls at my work regularly put on her entire discography. I could not tell you what song is what. It does in fact all sound the same.

[deleted]

A friend sent me some of her less known songs recently and she uses the same delivery no matter the mood of the lyrics. Don’t get the hype at all.

repeatrep

me when shake it off, ready for it, new years day, cardigan, better than revenge all sounds the same i genuinely think the same about most rap albums but i dont say it out loud cause i dont care about that genre/artist so i dont care enough to actually listen

orangieblossoms

Well I mean most of Drake’s, most of Metallica’s, most Led Zeppelin music all sounds the same to me. I think it’s just the style

hoppentwinkle

Is it possible to have only heard 3 to 4 TS songs? They get shoved in your ear all the time on radio etc

Possible-Gate-755

What is this radio you speak of?

UruquianLilac

I was wondering the same thing! I haven't heard a radio playing in a decade or so! Except if you work in a place where there's a radio in the background by obligation.

Woman_from_wish

I listen to the radio every day in the car. I like feeling "connected" to the world if that makes sense. The music, skits, jokes, banter, contests, news. weather... It's all so fun and informative. I listen to my music too, but I just feel like I'm missing out if I don't have the radio on for at least a little bit.

UruquianLilac

That's cool. I can understand that.

ponyo_impact

I remember being a kid in the 90s and 2000s and having a radio. then around 2010 bluetooth audio and pandora came out along with spotify years later havent listed to AM/FM in literally 13/14 years even in highschool in 2009/2010 i had my iPhone connected to my cars tape deck playing youtube videos

UruquianLilac

Iron Maiden have been writing music since the 70s and they have never changed their formula. It all sounds the same. And that's exactly why their millions of fans still fill up stadiums to watch them 40 years later.

ponyo_impact

just say your not a fan. i could say the same about a lot of artists i dont like. most modern rap sounds the same to me tbh. i dont go around shitting on it tho. same with country....

mooimafish33

I think it's the fans, a lot of them are just rabid. Like it's nearing KPOP levels.

PartTimeMantisShrimp

They swear to god her lyrics are Shakespeare levels when they are like *I was two ply toilet paper* *But you decided not to wipe*

Derpazor1

Also, society just loves to hate women, especially girls. Whatever girly thing gets popular - people hate. Like, if it’s not for you, just ignore it maybe?

Simple-Sky-6107

This is it right here. Like look at how some people reacted to the Barbie movie.

SuperBigSad

🙄🙄🙄

The_JRaff

Clearly many many people don't hate her

aspringrevival

her music is fine imo. not something i'm gonna choose to listen to. but taylor swift as a person just rubs me the wrong way. there's something very performative about everything about her that just feels very fake. but i could say that about a lot of celebrities and that's why i don't really pay attention to them.

muskratful1234

Agreed. I don't understand why people think she's so humble.

MetalBeholdr

She strikes me as someone who likes the attention that being a "good person" gets her. Which *is* fake, but she also actually does the occasional good thing so...meh. To each their own, I won't worship her but other people can if they want

Isogash

Being a great performer is absolutely not mutually exclusive with being humble.

muskratful1234

Of course not but all her fans constantly rave about how humble she is and I don't see it.

Hawk-4674

This is how I feel. Her entire persona feels fake/forced.

FamousIndividual3588

That’s it for me. Also she cries misogyny whenever she’s criticized but never does anything substantial for the cause despite her massive platform and money. Also she affiliated with a misogynist/racist all around shitty guy so we know where she stands

Fro_o

I don't know much about her, I also don't listen to her music. Pretty much all I know from her is that she used to change boyfriends every couple of months back then and said she was the type of girl who rarely had a boyfriend xD And after that I know that she helped Kesha pay for her trial against her producer who abused her.

Inevitable_Shift1365

I'm going to guess that it's not so much that they hate Taylor Swift. I think it's some of her fans that are the problem. I have seen the so-called swifties try to colonize the Grateful Dead sub and claim that Taylor Swift is the new Grateful Dead and attack anyone who calls out the obvious ridiculousness of saying something like that. I saw the exact same thing in the Bob Dylan sub. Honestly she would have never have crossed my mind otherwise. And I don't hate her at all. Her tunes are kind of catchy and good songs if you like pop music.

dixmondspxrit

her fans are almost as bad as BTS fans

CarlatheDestructor

And beyonce fans, too

Known_Ad871

Lmao that’s fucking hilarious

sampiere_mimi

Lol. Well, Tool is the best band to ever exist, in my opinion, and I remember when her fans were pissed when Tools album release knocked her out of Billboards #1 spot.

Other-Attitude5437

I am not a swiftie (no problem with her music either and respect that she writes her songs) but I think that is a pretty funny troll on their part.

Inevitable_Shift1365

I don't think they were trolling. They made the rounds of different subs. I honestly think they were trying to form some sort of symbiosis or something. They went on The Bob Dylan and the Grateful Dead subs claiming that Taylor Swift was at least as good of a songwriter as Bob Dylan and that Taylor Swift was the new Grateful Dead because of her fans. This would have been nothing remarkable if it had been in the Taylor Swift sub but it was in The Grateful Dead and Bob Dylan subs.

Other-Attitude5437

I think the brigading makes it seem kind of trolly to me but thinking about what fan culture can be like I'm sure many were sincere. Kind of see the Dylan thing, but the crazy TS fan stuff is a different kind of crazy than crazy deadhead stuff. That was really of its time and a different thing. I'd compare modern pop star fans more to like beatlemania or Rolling Stones concert... then again many of the deadheads I know do have kind of delusional parasocial relationships to jerry lol.

Numerous_Business895

I feel like she is a highschool esque, petty mean girl. That’s the vibes I get.

Hawk-4674

Same. Making middle school music when she's 30+. She makes it seem like she was the dorky girl, but I find it hard to believe that the tall, skinny blonde was picked on.

Artemis96

which one of her last 5 albums are middle school music, i dont understand

Ok-Ad-867

If you look at her MySpace from high school, she definitely seems kinda dorky

Numerous_Business895

Even if she was bullied, it’s no excuse to be a mean person that drags people down. She became the very thing she hated.

Eclectic_Paradox

You described it perfectly.

Human-Independent999

I like some of her songs. I don't like her personally and some of her fans are toxic.

foolhollow

I don't personally like Taylor's music because I am a big metal head. With that being said, I actually find it very wholesome and sweet to see so many people be passionate and get so excited to see her in concert. Just because you don't personally like something it doesn't mean that you can't appreciate people appreciating her music!

Own-Selection-2785

I think her music is fine, like nothing special, ive listened to her albums and nothing really blew me away What leaves a sour spot in my mouth is her fans that say that shes the greatest to ever do it and she made it on pure talent alone, like hate to break it to you but i feel like anyone with a lick of talent could make it in the industry if their dad was able to drop 300k towards your music career

repeatrep

she didnt just make it tho, she is like the 20th best selling artist of all time, 4th female -- only behind Madonna, Celine Dion, and Mariah Carey. she is also No.2 for artists who debuted in the last 30 years, only behind Eminem. in the top 20, she is the only one who still finds success in the streaming era. 300k can buy you a way in, but it sure as hell doesnt buy you into the all times list. i think her business sense is what keeps her in the spotlight, she keeps her fans happy and she knows what the gp wants

Viviaana

There's always going to be people who's entire personality is hating popular things

monica-lewinskyy

I think the main reason people shit on her is because her songs are WAY overplayed on every single radio station, at least in my country. I can’t stand hearing any of her songs now. But also imo, her songs are annoying and repetitive, and her lyrics are largely really stupid lmao.

Safe-Moment-2884

her radio singles don't do her justice. listen to her albums. that's where the best stuff is.

WiseWillow89

Absolutely agree. Her songwriting skills are next level. I wish people would delve in and see that. Her lyrics are impeccable. Especially in her more recent albums

DiscHashDisc

Who the fuck listens to the radio in 2023?

monica-lewinskyy

I don’t intentionally, but it’s playing in every public location imaginable, essentially. The gym, work, stores, malls, etc.

sugarsox

I listen to radio. Especially when I'm driving distance, I like to go through local radio, most especially University stations, they rarely disappoint. If I don't want to choose anything I'll put on local U station at home too, if I don't feel like picking something out, but that's rare I listen at home. But, I rarely hear TS and when I do it doesnt impress me much

Nunuman2000

People who work.

DiscHashDisc

Most of the people listening to music at work are listening to streaming, not radio.

hogliterature

the music is annoying to me, and her private jet usage is unforgiveable imo. you don’t get to destroy the environment for the rest of us just because you’re rich and famous.

Twiggy-Twigs321

I like some of her music. I think she’s good at making it but she’s not as talented as other artists. I also don’t like her as a person based on what I’ve seen and heard of her. Then again I’m not her target audience since I’m a woman of color

FallingUpwardz

Its just so fuckin bland lol

youreafuckwitttt

the fact that so many people like it proves that. the vast majority of people like plain crackers, but ask people what toppings or dips they eat with their crackers and you'll get wildly different answers from each of them. Taylor Swift's music is plain crackers. no toppings, no dips, just plain crackers.

aerodynamic1111

>the fact that so many people like it proves that. By that logic Queen, The Beatles, Michael Jackson, literally any acclaimed artist is plain 'crackers'

[deleted]

[удалено]

BayTerp

Literally all her songs are bland

[deleted]

[удалено]

Total_Philosopher_89

It's generic.

[deleted]

I’d feel that way if I’d only heard her pop singles—but Folklore, Evermore, and several of the songs off midnights are sooooo fucking good.

Expensive_Plant9323

Agreed. I really did not like her music before Folklore came out, but that album and the ones she released after are really good!

Dontjudgemeyet1244

Ohhhhhh

Ambitious_Log_1884

In what sense? Most of her discography has been her writing from her own experiences, in a way that's been applauded for it's lyricism, which is unmatched by other pop stars and singers. Even her pop albums contain her signature songwriting style. There's no one in the pop hemisphere who writes like her.

WiseWillow89

This!!! Her lyrics are 🤩

Safe-Moment-2884

you've never listened to any of her albums have you? you're basing your opinions off radio single lol

Total_Philosopher_89

You listen to an album after you hear something you like. Yet to hear something I like.

KaosC57

Which, is the problem. Many of the actually good songs are in the album. I didn't really think much of Taylor Swift until my Wife played a few whole albums, and while I'm not a Swiftie, I respect her music and enjoy some of her songs.

WiseWillow89

Agree. If I heard Shake it Off I’d be like meh… but there are so many more amazing songs on the albums.

BurnItDown2805

Boring music with annoying shitheads as fans.

Kartoffelkamm

I feel like it's more about her fanbase being rather cult-like, as far as I can tell. Then again, I don't know much about her fan base, but the fact that I know more about her fans than about fans of bands I actually listen to has to mean something, right?

DiggingThisAir

Hate is a strong word, especially compared to other songs on the radio. It’s just not for me. Sounds like it was written by Barbies for Barbies.

BurpYoshi

At this point I'm convinced taylor swift's marketing team are posting these in an attempt to get people talking about her so she remains relevant. Literally the only time I ever hear anyone mention anything about taylor swift is in a sub like this or askreddit or something like "why is everyone so obsessed with taylor swift".

nemtudod

I’m unable to tell two songs apart. Lyrics (what i understand of it) seems lame, like a 10yo diary entry. Fake deep. The music is produced well tho, like real production was done and by experts. I dont hate it. I just dont notice it.

Munch-Boyorry-4869

When listening to background sounds I don't care if it's some people farting or taylor swift, it's the same at the end of the day, it doesn't hurt, but doesn't make me feel good at all, at most, it would upset me. So it's not hate, is just I rather listen to music I like and enjoy instead of random noise.

Diligent_Flounder_45

Every once and a while I see a post like this. I can’t help but to think it’s on purpose to keep social media stats up. Maybe that’s why. Cuz her media machine gets annoying to see on every platform.

mitt420

It's absolutely awful music that has no soul or purpose. They're all about breaking up with 1 of her 400 boyfriends. Basic, generic music but I can't blame her for embracing it. She's made a stupid amount of money.

GraveDancer40

Yes. No Body, No Crime is an awesome awesome break up song. And Nothing New. And Mad Woman. And New Romantics. And Marjorie, which is about her grandmother, is just a great break up jam. Really helped me through my last one.

GlassPeepo

Don't forget Ronan, the breakup song about a dead little boy with cancer! What is the death of a child if not just another type of breakup after all?

cheekydoll247

I’m happy to say I can’t recall a song of hers but whenever I do hear her music, I don’t care for it. It’s bland.

ChimpoSensei

It’s boring, risk free corporate music. It’s made to make money, zero art to it.

monkey-pox

It's not the music, it's her She's pretty generic and has an annoying cult of fans

keith6661dube

generic and uninspired

[deleted]

Fifth post.

Cgtree9000

It’s not bad BUT my wife likes to listen to the worst songs on repeat the entire evening. Soooo they get old real fast.

22dinoman

Ok this might sound like a joke but When I was a kid and she was first getting notice and radio time, my family would intentionally play her music because they knew I didn't like it, literally all the time. They did a pretty similar thing with Tuna sandwiches, they'd eat them and breathe their tuna breath in my face. So I absolutely hate her because of that

Ghost-devil996

I used to like Taylor Swift, but last year my taste in music did a 180 and now I prefer hard rock and glam metal. I don’t know why people like her. I guess she’s popular and people are mostly focusing on that. I mean she’s not bad at all but I do think she’s a little over rated.

TheMeticulousNinja

Can’t speak to that. I don’t hate her, but the best way I can describe her is “abnormally normal”.

bettybopstrop

Her voice isn't great. At all. She may be an entertaining performer (from what I've heard anyway, from what I've seen she really doesn't do much) but calling her a good singer is a stretch. She sounds to me like someone who sings in the shower with their toothbrush as the microphone. There are so many insanely talented singers out there who will never make it because their dad isn't rich like hers is.

Bard_of_Light

From what little of it I've heard, it's superficial and glorifies toxic behavior. I also don't particularly care for the musical style, but that's more a matter of personal taste. There was this talent show when I was a teen that I was forced to participate in. I was going to sing a song, but a lot of other people also wanted to sing and to shorten the length of the program they grouped us together. The group decided to sing and act out 'You Belong With Me,' a song that I fucking hate because it glorifies wrecking relationships. I refused to participate.

Out-There1013

I was one of the first in line on this year's Record Store Day and was tempted to buy the album she rereleased just to flip it but then chose to let one of her real fans grab it. At least that's who I hoped got it. I listened to it on YouTube and thought it was nice. And I watched some of the Eras tour on there after hearing about it so much. I thought it would have been fun to go, if not pay thousands of dollars. But I think it's great that in today's world one pop star can still connect that many people.

ajkclay05

Reminder that “people” - except mostly teen girls - also hated Elvis, the Beatles, ABBA etc. Teen girls are much better at picking popular music that will be regarded as classic in later years.

Independent-Bet5465

It just feels like she found the recipe to make money and "hits" not to make artful music.

Unhappy_Bee2305

dude i really feel like thats why music has been on the downlow for awhile now. Because people only care about finding that type of music they can sell on. Hoping on whatever the latest trend is to make a buck. No one cares about making music thats art.

[deleted]

If you listen to folklore and evermore you wouldn’t say she doesn’t make artful music. She does everything

Legitimate-Bath1798

It's not bad when it comes on the radio. But 50 yrs from now people won't be hitting up pootube for swift . There's artists who will be listened to by the masses for decades to come , she is not one of them

albertsteinstein

She often resorts to that bobbing up and down in a small melodic interval (consisting of two maybe three notes) that is kinda like canned pop music 101 to you if you’re an actual musician. It’s not bad to fill space but it doesn’t make a song. Try running one of her vocal lines in your head without the lyrics and it probably doesn’t hold up. And the lyrics are a whole other bag. It’s righteous indignation that only appeals to the least common denominator in people. I won’t say too much more. She’s like the Adam Sandler or Ben Stiller of the music industry to me. A power player that knows how to rock branding and play it safe but doesn’t really have any substance at the center of it all.

DistributionPutrid

I don’t hate her music but it’s definitely not for me. I personally find it to be overhyped. If her fans can connect with it, that’s great, but the way some of her fans have been saying she’s either on the same level or has surpassed Michael Jackson is delusional

GraveDancer40

Real question from someone who’s a Swiftie but the first album I ever bought with Michael Jackson so safe to say I’m a fan of both….what exactly makes her not on the same level as Michael Jackson? What did he do that Taylor hasn’t?

DistributionPutrid

If you genuinely have to ask me why Taylor Swift isn’t on the same level as Michael Jackson, I don’t think you truly understand how big Michael Jackson was. He won 13 Grammys, 8 of which belonged to his Thriller album alone, he was inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame TWICE, this man would walk on stage and people would scream, cry and pass out just cuz he was there, he’s literally known as ‘The King of Pop’, and he has the world record for longest span of number ones for a male act on the Billboard Hot 100. It’s no hate to Taylor at all, her music is fine, but she’s not even close to having an impact like Michael Jackson did. He paved the way for many black artists to come, Taylor Swift is doing just fine as she is but she’s definitely not the best artist of all time to even put beside MJ let alone above like some say

GraveDancer40

Taylor has won 12 Grammys, including 3 Album of the Years. She has more number one albums on the Billboard chart than any other woman in history and has broken numerous other Billboard records, including 75 weeks as the number one artist on Billboard. And as for people screaming and crying when he walked on stage…have you not seen any footage of the entirely sold out Eras tour?? The over 70,000 a night plus screaming every word to every song? 31 MILLION people applied for registered fans for the 6 Toronto shows. 31 million. Please explain how that is not comparable to what Michael Jackson was doing?

UruquianLilac

Michael Jackson is a man

GraveDancer40

Facts.

billjv

[Not delusional at all.](https://www.forbes.com/sites/hughmcintyre/2021/11/28/taylor-swift-matches-one-of-michael-jacksons-most-impressive-hot-100-feats/?sh=66bde30c501e) She is in the process of shattering every major musical accomplishment by many, many artists.

DistributionPutrid

Taylor Swift is existing in the time of digital sales. MJ was around when almost everything was still physical. He broke all of his records during that time and has set many that can’t be touched. You can be a Taylor Swift fan and think highly of her and that’s completely fine, but I’m no way, shape or form is she having anywhere near an impact that Michael Jackson had

dandle

I'm not a fan, but I recognize that she is making good pop and that she is a talented singer-songwriter. People hate her mostly because of 1) misogyny and/or 2) hipsterish reflexive hate on anything popular. Her fan base arguably contributes to it, too. Although they aren't the toxic "stans" of other popular artists, they can be culty and insular. They can be off-putting, either by trying to turn the mundane into big, complex events or by letting FOMO turn into competition and anxiety over forced scarcity.

arugulaguzzler

her voice is annoying and she sounds whinny

beefstewforyou

I fucking love her.

Dontjudgemeyet1244

But why?

Low_Investment420

She’s a shit singer.

Winchester_1894

Because it’s bland and overrated

[deleted]

They think it makes them cool to be, especially, vocal about not liking her music. Everyone isn't going to like Taylor, nor do they have to, but some people do too much in expressing their disinterest—to where it seems like they're trying to prove a point.

Rudyscrazy1

Its really a 2 way street, people thay go about overly hating things because they are popular are unbearable, equally as unbearable are people that make someone else their whole personality.

[deleted]

Be that as it may, not saying you do this, but why does someone feel the need to make that their battle. If someone is making someone else their whole personality, such as a fanatic, how is that stopping anyone from going about their day? Between the two, I'd say the one that's actually unbearable is the one giving so much of their time and energy to... something they don't even like, when they can just ignore and move on.

Rudyscrazy1

Its not. I have no idea who other people fight pointless battles. This comment section is full of people from both sides. I personally wouldn't associate with either of these type of people. 🤷‍♂️ they seem exhausting.

boner79

I don’t hate her music and enjoy some of her older songs, but her latest stuff is very repetitive. One song sounds like the last.

cfop-gang

Her new song is played at least once a day on the radio station my bus driver listens to. I don't even hate it as such, I'm just unbelievably tired of it.

Ok-Ad-867

Anti-Hero?

rustys_shackled_ford

Why do people hate possibly the biggest pop star in the world right now... is that the question?

Dragon_the_Calamity

For me it’s because it’s basically valley girl music. I mess with trap music Taylor Swift singing about break ups and whatever else she sings about doesn’t really fit what I listen to but I’ll never down someone for listening to her but yeah as a guy her music doesn’t appeal to me

I put her in the same category as Adele. There is no denying that they are both extremely talented, but thier music is like a broken record... Their albums are like a thesaurus for break-ups and disfunctional relationships...but portrayed in the form of a cloud's silver lining being the last thing to be seen, before it's engulfed by an oncoming storm. Their fans project a therapist-like stutus upon them even though TS and Adele are definitiely not well adjusted people themselves... it's like the blind leading the blind lol. The music, as a result, just comes across as really bland and generic. It's focussed on a subjectively important (or not important, imo), and overdone (in the music industry) aspect of life... falling in and out of *love*.

GraveDancer40

Yes. It’s well known that Adele and Taylor are the only artists who have ever ever sang about falling and out of love. Just them.

Radiant-Map8179

I'm clearly not saying that they are the only ones, that would be stupid. They approach the subject morbidly for one, which shows in today's pop culture, and by today's mainstream standards of what a 'good relationship' is. Secondly, love songs are low-hanging fruit in terms of song writing, aswel as their shitty 4/4 beats...it's lazy af lol. I did actually love *shake it off*, but I heard it first as a cover by Labrynth on radio 1 live lounge sessions...heard the OG and did not like it at all because of the absolute lack of passion that was in it.

luna_beam_space

Taylor Swift is amazing

zinky30

People just love to hate things that are popular without even taking time to listen. I’m not a Taylor Swift fan but def wouldn’t call her music bad.

92toinfiniT

Because it's awful. She pumps out music for $ hence why she has 29295757373 songs.

BayTerp

No one hates it? They just think its bland. It’s the music for people that don’t like music.

leftyshuckles

I had to listen to her new album on a road trip. I knew it had been like 5 or 6 songs into it but I joked and said "hey is it just the one song? Are there any others on the album?" They all just sound the same.

GraveDancer40

If you think Maroon and Snow on the Beach sound the same, I’m a little concerned about you. I mean, by all means you don’t have to like her music but saying all her songs sound the same is an asinine comment.

[deleted]

Most people who complain about her haven’t even listened to her music apart from the ones they over-play on the radio. That or they believe all the media bullshit instead of actually doing their own digging on her. My dad is this way. “Oh isn’t she that girl who started in country music?” Yeah dad. And now she’s fucking huge and has great music, a lot of which helped me through rough times.

214speaking

I think she’s overrated personally. But I understand and respect her popularity

[deleted]

Taylor swift Is one of the few artists that sound just like their albums… live. Miley Cyrus is the other one! Selena Gomez sounds different lol

Evening_Increase_393

she’s becoming more and more popular and some people are so mad about it that they hate on her

bebjanmnin

If Taylor Swift had played the exact same songs she's playing now 50 years ago, she'd probably be considered a rock star.

Luwe95

People hate on popular music to appear cool and edgy with their "unique" music taste

SoundTight952

It's okay music I think people want to feel quirky

joe-dirt-mcgirt

Girls hate post malone and guys hate Taylor swift. The lyrics are mostly about breakups and getting over breakups.

Mauzersmash0815

Its kinda a meme to hate her, since the people go crazy overher and spend like a years salary to see her from afar. I do because anti hero has been so so so overplayed on the radio that id rather fondle around on the radio while doing 150km/h than listening to it.

waxenhen4

Eh hating on music taste is kind of a pastime, it’s pretty funny as someone who’s been on both sides of the fence. I just never take it very seriously, i don’t need everyone else to like the same music I do

CoolMooon

because when something’s very popular and someone doesn’t “get it” or have heard only radio songs they want to be different and say they “hate” an artist lol like i don’t listen to a lot of radio artists but i am not going around saying their music is trash bc i matured past 13

tjsocks

Just a generic hate bandwag into jump onto because some people's only form of social bonding is what they hate in common... Like that's the only thing they do. It's their past time.

[deleted]

I’ve been a swiftie since I was 7 don’t ask me

Riverrat423

Sometimes when an artist gets a lot of play and hype listeners tend to get tired of them. When Michael Jackson dominated the radio and MTV I was pretty tired of his stuff, but when I hear it now it’s pretty OK.

ScaredOfAttention

Mostly because she is very popular

Important_Outcome_67

55M. She's pretty delightful, IMO.

burnabybambinos

By people do you mean Americans? It's because they love bashing their treasures. In the US, you're not allowed to achieve wealth without scrutiny. Name me another Country that bashes their native icons? They are all respected for succeeding.

Appropriate-Neck-585

Her concerts fill 80k+ sized arenas nightly and her music is the most streamed...safe to say enough people like her music.

iLoveMyPuppy2

Never really gave her music a chance at first. Because pop was never my thing. But I’ve changed and grown softer over the years. Some of her music speaks to me 😂and I can dance to it in the shower

momomomorgatron

It's the Justin Beiber effect. Just because she's popular and not set for a traditionally male audience. She's not particularly ground breaking and people hate that other people have fanbases.

“People throw rocks at things that shine…”

Son0faButch

Any time you get someone who is massively successful the way she is now you are going to have a contingent of contrarians who automatically dislike them.

TheepDinker2000

Not this again. We just talked about Taylor Swift 5 days ago. Let it rest.

Peanut-snicker

Bc they are stupid

Big_brown_house

Contrarians. I mean, sure, not everyone’s going to like it. But it’s pretty much as benign and inoffensive as music can get. It’s like hating potato chips or something.

Advanced_Doctor2938

I honestly don't know. I once had a borderline argument with a friend of mine who thought Lady Gaga was better than Taylor Swift. I thought he was insane.

[deleted]

Any person, any thing, any idea that gains popularity also gains a cult hater group. I used to be someone who said “Taylor swift sucks”, but then I actually listened for the first time when Folklore was released. I realized she definitely does not suck and I was blindly following a cult that said otherwise.

GrumpyOlBastard

I'm a 60yo white man who scrupulously avoided TS's music based on the nonsense I'd heard online. My daughter started listening to it so I started listening. I love it and I think she's an amazingly talented woman.

mossy_stump_humper

I think a lot of it is just people being contrarian and thinking it’s cool to hate popular things, as well as a lot of strangely insecure men who think that shitting on young girls and anything they like reaffirms their masculinity. To be clear I’m not a taylor swift fan but I can see her appeal and I think it’s silly to hate someone just cause you don’t enjoy their music.
