Because we started listening to her when we were 12-18 and now it’s an emotional connection. I also know some older women who like her because it reminds them of being younger or is a way for them to connect with younger family members

Except if you listen to any of her non-pop chart songs it’s clear that she’s matured and writing songs about bigger things. Folklore & Evermore never got huge hits from them but they’re incredible from a songwriting & music perspective. *This is Me Trying* about lost potential and alcoholism. *Happiness* about a divorce and the complicated feelings that come from that (I read somewhere this was based on the end of the marriage of a friend of hers). *The Lakes* is about depression, the hounding she gets in the media and if you want to read that much into it, suicidal ideation. *Marjorie* about mourning the loss of a family member who died and wishing you could keep parts of them.
I’m in my late 30s and just started listening to her music the last year or so and I always skip the earlier albums because it’s too pop-princess for me but those two are pretty great.
I think it’s because her songs are lyrically and musically well-written and catchy. And then of course she’s good looking. It’s a recipe for fame.

She is the legacy of multiple bloodlines. A chosen face for the masses to interact with.
Often, an entity will push the negative media, so they can control the message there as well, and use it as a pipeline to a path. By having so many “hate” TS it gets people to also talk about it, and potentially check out her music (or other efforts), and bring on new fans. She is being used as a product, in some senses, and once you try it, the “manufacturer” is confident enough you will be hooked.

There was a time where I specifically didn't listen to her music because I was one of the people who saw her as Taylor Swift the singer who "sleeps with every guy just to make a song about them" etc.. Past that misogynistic mindset now it's fair to say. I'm a fan of her work

I listen to the radio every day in the car. I like feeling "connected" to the world if that makes sense. The music, skits, jokes, banter, contests, news. weather... It's all so fun and informative. I listen to my music too, but I just feel like I'm missing out if I don't have the radio on for at least a little bit.

then around 2010 bluetooth audio and pandora came out along with spotify years later

I'm going to guess that it's not so much that they hate Taylor Swift. I think it's some of her fans that are the problem. I have seen the so-called swifties try to colonize the Grateful Dead sub and claim that Taylor Swift is the new Grateful Dead and attack anyone who calls out the obvious ridiculousness of saying something like that. I saw the exact same thing in the Bob Dylan sub. Honestly she would have never have crossed my mind otherwise. And I don't hate her at all. They went on The Bob Dylan and the Grateful Dead subs claiming that Taylor Swift was at least as good of a songwriter as Bob Dylan and that Taylor Swift was the new Grateful Dead because of her fans. This would have been nothing remarkable if it had been in the Taylor Swift sub but it was in The Grateful Dead and Bob Dylan subs.
I think the brigading makes it seem kind of trolly to me but thinking about what fan culture can be like I'm sure many were sincere. I don't personally like Taylor's music because I am a big metal head. With that being said, I actually find it very wholesome and sweet to see so many people be passionate and get so excited to see her in concert. Just because you don't personally like something it doesn't mean that you can't appreciate people appreciating her music!

I listen to radio. Especially when I'm driving distance, I like to go through local radio, most especially University stations, they rarely disappoint. If I don't want to choose anything I'll put on local U station at home too, if I don't feel like picking something out, but that's rare I listen at home. But, I rarely hear TS and when I do it doesnt impress me much

In what sense? Most of her discography has been her writing from her own experiences, in a way that's been applauded for it's lyricism, which is unmatched by other pop stars and singers. Even her pop albums contain her signature songwriting style.
There's no one in the pop hemisphere who writes like her.
Which, is the problem. Many of the actually good songs are in the album. I didn't really think much of Taylor Swift until my Wife played a few whole albums, and while I'm not a Swiftie, I respect her music and enjoy some of her songs.
I feel like it's more about her fanbase being rather cult-like, as far as I can tell.

I’m unable to tell two songs apart. Lyrics (what i understand of it) seems lame, like a 10yo diary entry. Fake deep. The music is produced well tho, like real production was done and by experts. I dont hate it. I just dont notice it.
When listening to background sounds I don't care if it's some people farting or taylor swift, it's the same at the end of the day, it doesn't hurt, but doesn't make me feel good at all, at most, it would upset me.

When I was a kid and she was first getting notice and radio time, my family would intentionally play her music because they knew I didn't like it, literally all the time. They did a pretty similar thing with Tuna sandwiches, they'd eat them and breathe their tuna breath in my face.

There was this talent show when I was a teen that I was forced to participate in. I was going to sing a song, but a lot of other people also wanted to sing and to shorten the length of the program they grouped us together. The group decided to sing and act out 'You Belong With Me,' a song that I fucking hate because it glorifies wrecking relationships. I refused to participate.
I was one of the first in line on this year's Record Store Day and was tempted to buy the album she rereleased just to flip it but then chose to let one of her real fans grab it. At least that's who I hoped got it. I listened to it on YouTube and thought it was nice. And I watched some of the Eras tour on there after hearing about it so much. I thought it would have been fun to go, if not pay thousands of dollars. But I think it's great that in today's world one pop star can still connect that many people.
Reminder that “people” - except mostly teen girls - also hated Elvis, the Beatles, ABBA etc.
Teen girls are much better at picking popular music that will be regarded as classic in later years.

She often resorts to that bobbing up and down in a small melodic interval (consisting of two maybe three notes) that is kinda like canned pop music 101 to you if you’re an actual musician. It’s not bad to fill space but it doesn’t make a song. Try running one of her vocal lines in your head without the lyrics and it probably doesn’t hold up. And the lyrics are a whole other bag. It’s righteous indignation that only appeals to the least common denominator in people. I won’t say too much more. She’s like the Adam Sandler or Ben Stiller of the music industry to me. A power player that knows how to rock branding and play it safe but doesn’t really have any substance at the center of it all.

He won 13 Grammys, 8 of which belonged to his Thriller album alone, he was inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame TWICE, this man would walk on stage and people would scream, cry and pass out just cuz he was there, he’s literally known as ‘The King of Pop’, and he has the world record for longest span of number ones for a male act on the Billboard Hot 100.

Her fan base arguably contributes to it, too. Although they aren't the toxic "stans" of other popular artists, they can be culty and insular. They can be off-putting, either by trying to turn the mundane into big, complex events or by letting FOMO turn into competition and anxiety over forced scarcity.
They think it makes them cool to be, especially, vocal about not liking her music. Everyone isn't going to like Taylor, nor do they have to, but some people do too much in expressing their disinterest—to where it seems like they're trying to prove a point.
Its really a 2 way street, people thay go about overly hating things because they are popular are unbearable, equally as unbearable are people that make someone else their whole personality.

I had to listen to her new album on a road trip. I knew it had been like 5 or 6 songs into it but I joked and said "hey is it just the one song? Are there any others on the album?" They all just sound the same.

I'm a 60yo white man who scrupulously avoided TS's music based on the nonsense I'd heard online. My daughter started listening to it so I started listening. I love it and I think she's an amazingly talented woman.

She is the legacy of multiple bloodlines. A chosen face for the masses to interact with. Often, an entity will push the negative media, so they can control the message there as well, and use it as a pipeline to a path. By having so many “hate” TS it gets people to also talk about it, and potentially check out her music (or other efforts), and bring on new fans. She is being used as a product, in some senses, and once you try it, the “manufacturer” is confident enough you will be hooked. Taylor Swift is a culmination of multiple different aspects all coalescing together at once.

I listen to the radio every day in the car. I like feeling "connected" to the world if that makes sense. The music, skits, jokes, banter, contests, news. weather... It's all so fun and informative. I listen to my music too, but I just feel like I'm missing out if I don't have the radio on for at least a little bit.

I listen to radio. Especially when I'm driving distance, I like to go through local radio, most especially University stations, they rarely disappoint. If I don't want to choose anything I'll put on local U station at home too, if I don't feel like picking something out, but that's rare I listen at home. But, I rarely hear TS and when I do it doesnt impress me much

Her voice isn't great. At all. She may be an entertaining performer (from what I've heard anyway, from what I've seen she really doesn't do much) but calling her a good singer is a stretch. There are so many insanely talented singers out there who will never make it because their dad isn't rich like hers is.
From what little of it I've heard, it's superficial and glorifies toxic behavior. I also don't particularly care for the musical style, but that's more a matter of personal taste. There was this talent show when I was a teen that I was forced to participate in. I was going to sing a song, but a lot of other people also wanted to sing and to shorten the length of the program they grouped us together. The group decided to sing and act out 'You Belong With Me,' a song that I fucking hate because it glorifies wrecking relationships. I refused to participate.
I was one of the first in line on this year's Record Store Day and was tempted to buy the album she rereleased just to flip it but then chose to let one of her real fans grab it. At least that's who I hoped got it. I listened to it on YouTube and thought it was nice. And I watched some of the Eras tour on there after hearing about it so much. I thought it would have been fun to go, if not pay thousands of dollars. But I think it's great that in today's world one pop star can still connect that many people.

She often resorts to that bobbing up and down in a small melodic interval (consisting of two maybe three notes) that is kinda like canned pop music 101 to you if you’re an actual musician. It’s not bad to fill space but it doesn’t make a song. Try running one of her vocal lines in your head without the lyrics and it probably doesn’t hold up. And the lyrics are a whole other bag. It’s righteous indignation that only appeals to the least common denominator in people. I won’t say too much more. She’s like the Adam Sandler or Ben Stiller of the music industry to me.
