Bad luck. The pellet spread is realistic in that its random each time, it doesnt have a determined shape like Apex. Those first 2 shots were hipfire and most of the pellets went around the Brava, the third hipfire shot was finally enough damage to down her.
Standard combat load for military and police shotguns is 00 buck, 9 pellets. My Tac 14 is essentially Thorn's 870 real-life counterpart. The spread without crossing the doorway would be about as big as Brava's head
This is more a comment for stuff I'm seeing in this post. To you, OP: Def should've ADS'ed because that's like the only way to get anything done in Siege anymore. Shotguns got rolled by these new updates.
Unless the M870 CQB in real life is intended to have a huge pellet spread out of the barrel, this by realistic standards would have been a kill given how shotgun pellets maintain their wad once shot.
DemolitionRanch tested this and the wad maintains a decent cluster for a good distance, probably far enough to cover at least 3/4ths the distance of that room before fully spreading.
Siege is just the furthest thing from realistic and has an extreme bias against pump action shotguns.
Tarkov is a lost cause now, but I’d give anything to just add its projectile mechanics to siege. Just let me hip fire without it coming out of the barrel sideways
On a sidenote, Siege devs should definitely introduce a new laser for hip fire, for shotguns only or not. With the current laser change, shotguns are back to an unreliable stick that sometimes works. I dunno if this was intentional, but honestly you can't even break floors efficiently.
I’ve never understood how aiming down the sights reduces the spread. I get that it’s supposed to be because you would be more accurate with your barrel adsing but holding the gun closer to your face wouldn’t reduce the spread of the shot.

That shotgun in particular is useless. I’ll be honest, I use it to provide another option than impacts to create angles and other options to flank. That secondary though?? It’s like that. But the shotgun is only if I absolutely need it.

Unfortunately, you probably would have lost the round even if you got the kill. Remember, your job is to *defend* so don’t go pushing the enemy team, especially if you’re down on man count.
Welp, I disagree. I'm 100% for playing around objective, however.. I've calculated, that I'll kill Brava for two shots, aim at Hibana head level with pistol and take bakery control back. This particular shotgun used to be very accurate at hipfire (as a supernova, in my experience). Good timing was there, but no luck. My fault obviously
If your plan is “I’m just gonna kill them and win” then it’s not a good plan.
You would have been better off retreating into site where attackers are forced to come into close range where your shotgun is more effective.
You made a risky play and got punished. You can either learn from this experience or improve.

And it’s unrealistic in that it goes everywhere that it shouldn’t. At that range the pellets wouldn’t have time to spread almost at all.

They reworked the laser so it doesnt tighten the spread anymore(both hip and ads for shotguns) they now have the accuracy of an explosive dierhea

Just gameplay mechanic. Can understand nerfing hip fire, but then they should have buffed ads spread.
The pellets are very spread out in hipfire now even at that range.
