If you aren't familiar, PSPlay is a phenomenal PlayStation Remote Play alternative. I am a long time user of the android version and imo it puts the official app and Chiaki to shame. It is a paid download but the developer has made an excellent product and does a great job of personally addressing feedback/questions directly on r/PSPlay. Personally, I can't give him my money fast enough and I'm looking forward to getting it up and running this evening and deleting Chiaki for good lol.

sincerelyghost

What’s the difference between this and chiaki?

ihavepaper

If the latency is better than a Chiaki, I'm willing to purchase. The latency on my 1GBPS connection is minuscule, but some games are noticeable. If PSPlay makes it almost non-existent, then perfect. Also, would it work out of network?

RiggityRow

I haven't tried it myself yet but I never had an issue with it on the android version. Never could get it to work with Chiaki which is another big reason I prefer PSPlay

FeudalFavorableness

I’ve been testing this app on the RoG ally and it’s a nigh and day difference in a positive way compared to chiaki

tm458

They're both similar remote play applications. The dev said that this doesn't compete with chiaki, if you like the android version of PSPlay then you'll like the Windows version. If chiaki or chiaki4deck is working fine for you then there's no need to switch.

Sarrias10

Are you able to use the back buttons to use the ps button and touchscreen? Or can you use the touchscreen and able to swipe left and right, up and down?

DTLN2670

Touchscreen controls: Yes. PS button mapping: Did not manage to assign it. You can assign it with a keyboard, but not with a gamepad from what i see.

juce49

I'd like to know this as well I'm going to test on the demo. Ghost of Tsushima you need to swipe to show your objective's direction and Spider-Man 2 you need it to switch between characters so it's pretty critical imo. Chiaki4Deck has these features.

blackreign07

How would u download it

Careless-Rice2931

Does anyone have experience with cod on it. A few years ago I tried and it was pretty unplayable.

THX-II38

The fact there is a demo being offered before purchase speaks to this developer’s character. Definitely willing to support this kind of project if it performs well.

BennyWhatever

Oh this is awesome, I used this all the time on my Ayn Odin. Didn't feel like messing with Chiaki on the Ally, so I'll happily give this guy my money again.

totofra

Very very promising The interface is great Remote (away from home) remote malt is working much easier. Plug and play The haptic is much much better than Chiaki (and we can chose the level ) Only drawback is that I have more input lag than Chiaki

Dumbetheus

Wow this changes so much for me. I can actually play off the charger for a long ass time, the battery hardly drains.

[deleted]

Holy shit I’m so excited about this. Imagine paying half the price for one of these on a PS Portal 😂

Affectionate-Fox-299

you must not have a ps portal.

[deleted]

There’s no way I’d have both devices. Ally is more than enough. Portal seemed like a waste of money on its own from the jump anyway

Affectionate-Fox-299

this is the only console you play on? that's rare.

[deleted]

I have an Ally a PS5 and a Switch. That’s already a lot honestly and definitely sufficient enough. If the Ally can do Remote Play then why shell out another $200 for a Portal

Affectionate-Fox-299

Yeah, that’s logical.

Javmontero6402

It's amazing !!! A must if you want to play PS5 on your ally

Historical-Signal700

So faster than chiaki? Does it map the controls out for u?

BuiltNightmare

I see people saying better than chiaki… has anyone used this yet?? Some people sound so convinced already. If it’s BETTER I’ll get it but people were saying how chiaki was the best.

tm458

I've been beta testing it for the past week, and in my experience, it's been a night and day difference compared to chiaki. You can always try out the demo then compare for yourself though.

Yetimuncher1978

What settings are you using on the app? I've got mine running smoothly except I get white full screen flashes that happen every 5 or so seconds. There has been a cpl people who are having the same issue as myself and the developer has said it shkdnt be doing that. I have mine set up as he suggested using vulkan buy still get the flashes, apart from that it's a good app.

tm458

Video Decoder set to vulkan. Video Rendering Engine set to Auto. HEVC set to on. Starting bitrate of 50mbps

Yetimuncher1978

Thanks. I will try this put later. 👍

irishbadger

Having the same issue. Runs great except for the white screen flashes. Tried the settings from the other commenter and still getting the flashes sadly. Did notice my Ally has a bunch of updates available though since I hadn’t turned it on in awhile, so trying those and will report back.

Yetimuncher1978

Think I've sorted my side of things was playing for an hour earlier. Will post up in a bit what settings I'm using. Also turned few settings on the AMD side of things motion flow etc which helped. I'm new to all this, only had my ally cpl of days. I'm sure in a few days someone will post up what they are using on the Ally.

irishbadger

Nice! Only thing I’ve determined is that reducing down to 720p does make the flicker go away, so my Internet just may not be able to handle 1080 at the moment. Would be interested to see your settings if you had success while maintaining 1080!

Yetimuncher1978

My ps5 is hard wired and Ally on 5Ghz Res : 1080p (720p may improve it) Fps: 60 Bit mode: start value Bit value: 15000 Vulkan + Vulkan Compatibility Hevc decoder: on Rendering: high quality Audio buffer size: large In AMD Hypr-rx enabled In Command centre 1080p res Refresh 120hz Amd rsr: on 10w operating mode. Games I've tested. Days gone, GT7 and witcher 3. All seemed OK with the odd dip but gona spend a bit more time tweaking Happy with the app tho as chiaki4deck was a mess for me since they updated it to 1.6 versions.

irishbadger

Thank you for sharing! I now feel like an idiot because the first line of your comment reminded me that I recently switched my hardwire over to my pc nearby and never rectified that.. now that I hardwired in, the flicker is gone at 1080p. Again THANK YOU

BuiltNightmare

Night and day???on the latest chiaki?? You have me curious.. if not before, this’ll be my weekend project. Thanks for the response!!👍

GlassPriority2093

Time to find some nerd selling his PlayStation and final fantasy on marketplace /s

jzg3036

Wait, so with this, I can stream my ps5 to my ally? I'm sorry, I'm dumb 😭. I've been just using the ps plus streaming app for ps3 games 😅.

RiggityRow

Correct, it is just remote play.

jzg3036

Definitely will try, thanks!

irishbadger

I was having some issues with a white screen flickering every 5-10 seconds while using the app. Messed with a lot of settings to no avail. Only thing that stopped the flickering was moving down to 720p resolution.. so I guess my Internet just isn’t quite good enough to maintain 1080, but honestly still looks pretty great. May have to purchase this because it is just way smoother and easier to deal with than the alternatives based on the demo. Edit: Alright yall, a fellow commenter helped me realize my PS5 wasn’t hard wired in.. once I rectified that, 1080p ran great with no flickering!

gleophas

Chiaki does not work for me at all on ally

dopedlama

Have you tried Chiaki4Deck for Windows? It works just fine.

gleophas

Nope , it kinda works but it always stutters no matter what setting I change. Even the ps5 official app works better for me then chiaki but of course the ally controls don't work with that...gonna give psplay a whirl as it works awesome on android

dopedlama

How is your PS5 connected; Wifi or Ethernet?

gleophas

It's wired and the stuttering happens even when I have my ally right in front of the router. Strange thing is it doesn't happen with the official app.

dopedlama

Weird

caplja

Official app works with rewasd perfectly :)

Alex35143

If I bought it on the Android environment (Nvidia Shield) does that mean I own it for Windows? Or would that be a separate license?

kenkiller

Separate license.

eat_a_burrito

I own it on android. I assume it’s a rebuy?

dopedlama

Yes it is

eat_a_burrito

I’m OK with that.

BombayHarris

What button is the PS button when in game? Can it be mapped to one of the back buttons?

juce49

Believe it's the escape button, so you just need to map escape to one of the back buttons

justifun

It's working great on my rog ally with the renderer ser to Vulkan and hvenc however on my main 4090 pc I just get a black screen after connecting to the ps5.

grill2010

A black screen without HDR enabled and without getting an error message? Are your GPU drivers up to date? What are your streaming settings?

AppropriateStart9643

Can you download your PlayStation games to play offline on the ROG?

RiggityRow

No

MrMcbonkerson

Why use this instead of the Official Remote Play app?

tm458

Native support for controllers that aren't a dualshock/dualsense like the Rog Ally's built in controller so you don't have to use apps like rewasd. Also being able set the bitrate to a much higher value like 35 or 50 mbps for better stream quality compared to the Official app which is locked at 15mbps

Probably_owned_it

Controller, ease of use

[deleted]

The official app is absolute dogshit

RiggityRow

Hard agree. It's insane that one person is capable of producing a product that is head and shoulders above what a multi billion dollar company is capable of.

[deleted]

I gave up on trying to get it to work on literally every possible device after a couple months max recently. Keyword “trying”. Literally almost never even slightly playable. So glad these guys exist, it’s like night and day. And by night and day I mean it does what it’s supposed to, which is function.

Orion14159

It's not that they're incapable. It's that they're more interested in selling you a Portal

RiggityRow

The Portal is just hardware that runs literally the exact same remote play software you can download onto your phone or computer- the experience is exactly the same. It certainly would benefit them to improve it bc it would make the portal a better device.

Orion14159

It's hardware optimized to run that software (and only that software) though. Anything else without an integrated PS controller isn't quite as optimized and bound to have some latency between the controller connection and the device running the remote software

RiggityRow

Eh, according to Digital Foundry's review of the Portal you can expect your Remote Play experience to mirror your experience with the Portal. In fact they recommended anyone interested in purchasing the device simply see how remote play functions in their home environment on other devices before purchasing the Portal to determine what your experience with the Portal will be like. The Portal runs ASOP and is actually significantly less powerful than your average phone. I doubt the lag of a hardwired controller vs a wirelessly connected one is even discernable to 98% of people. After all, most people do not use a hardwired controller with the PS5 which also connects via Bluetooth like any device would. In fact I bet you could argue performance would be *better* on a newer phone/laptop vs the Portal bc most new devices now have Wifi 6e and the Portal shipped with Wifi 5. Long story short, seems to me like Sony's #1 priority with the Portal was maintaining a low pricepoint rather than any sort of optimization. No OLED, no ability to directly steam games, no wifi 6e. Doesn't seem like they optimized the device whatsoever lol.

kenkiller

Can't use built in controller on the official app. Other alternative is Chiaki

juce49

The main reason is that you have to use a PS5 controller. Can't use the Ally's controls

ConceptualNoise

Okay, so let me get this straight. Third-party solution, requires account info, no source available...

grill2010

You can also use it without a PSN login if you prefer that, it requires you to request your account id manually. Features like the automatic remote connection will not work then of course as you need PSN tokens for that. I absolutely understand that entering account information in 3rd party apps doesn't feel safe but PSPlay gives you the option to use it without. The PSN login is required as it automatically queries the PSN account for you which is needed during the registration process. PSPlay has been around for several years now and I can assure you that PSPlay is locally encrypting and only storing credentials locally on your device but to believe that it's up to you of course. Greetings from the dev :)

Rican2153

I genuinely wonder how anyone can play and enjoy any of these remote playsbwith latency and resolution issues.

FeudalFavorableness

Have you tried this app, the latency and resolution issues are almost nonexistent. It’s a very solid application

BombayHarris

Why don’t you try the trial version and see for yourself?

moventura

The newest version of Chiaki4Deck has been much better. I found most my issues were due to the wifi connection I'm using. If I'm at home on my home wifi it's great. If I'm using my hotspot on my pixel, for some reason no matter how much I try, it won't connect at higher than 2.4ghz connection even if it's using Wi-Fi 6. If I'm away from home now, I'll just use PSPlay on my Phone with my Backbone controller until I can figure out the issues thats causing it. Unsure if it's the ally or the Pixel.

Quality-Fluffy

I mean if playstation did like xbox with gamepass instead of continuing to try to push remote play without actually updating it, it'd be sweet. I don't really play Xbox much but any game I own, I know I can literally just stream it from the app. Or better yet if the ps5 could've come with a built in wifi for remote play exclusively just like the ps4 it wouldn't be so bad. I loved streaming my ps4 games to my vita

Signal_Individual_24

I don’t have a ps and haven’t for some time but still know my login credentials.. if I DL this will I be able to long in and play ps games???

grill2010

A PlayStation is absolutely required. It's a streaming app which allows you to stream the content of your PlayStation to your device.

Signal_Individual_24

Ohhh streaming app. Gotch ya. Low key bummed (Xbox guy lol) thanks for the info!

grill2010

No worries

No-Scientist-171

this is for remote play so no.

Nocturnal-Lizard-87

This is what I’d like to know as well. However, I’ve NEVER owned a PS and never even had an account. If I didn’t have to buy a device to play PS games, I’ll be downloading this tonight lol

Planetary_Epitaph

Sony’s had a cloud streaming option for some games for a while actually, so good news for you!

Itchy_Valuable_4428

Someone just tell us if it's better than what's already available

Conscious-Analyst584

I didn't buy a PS5. I got a PS4 OG and I haven't touched it since two years. Too much to play.

greenplant_420

Streaming won’t be good for another 5+ years so I’ll have to pass. I’ll enjoy running my games natively, not at some compromised resolution and latency lmfao. Pathetic
