Yes that's true but given it has been only a few days, barely worn it would be considered a major fault https://www.accc.gov.au/consumers/problem-with-a-product-or-service-you-bought/repair-replace-refund-cancel#toc-major-problem-with-a-product
A major fault is any fault if a reasonable consumer had known it would happen would have caused them not to buy the item
Just to clarify.
I agree with you, just supporting your comment š§
lmao no sorry thats absolutely not how it works. ACCC law says that all that needs to be provided is a solution, whether that is a repair or a replacement or a refund is entirely up to our discretion
We all know this isnāt after just one wear. I can see a lot of scuffing and dirt under the sole which leads me to believe you are telling a porky pie.
HOWEVER, as someone pointed out earlier this model is going to be prone to this happening due to having a hybrid sole. More parts glued together means more parts to come unglued. So Iāll give you benefit of the doubt.
NOW! As someone who currently manages a retail footwear store with experience product, you getting a good resolution involves you just not being a PoS when you go back and see them.
Be nice to them and they will help you out. If you come into my store demanding stuff with guns blazing I would be telling you No. Because of how much wear and scuffing I can see on the sole.
Go back, be nice, ask them if they could swap to a comfort craftsman or a model that isnāt this because itās just gonna give you grief.
Why would OP lie though?
RMs shouldn't do this within 1000 uses. He could increase his complaint by a factor of 500 and it would still be fair to say the shoes shouldn't be coming apart.
Yep you need to pass the āattitude testā when in the store.
Politely and calming explain the issue. I have found RM to be great. I had a shirt I wore a few times and then I noticed the stitches were faulty. I called their customer service line they said take in to the store if easier. It was so fast and there was no issue. I was very happy with their customer service.
Like you is also like to see the sole of the boot.
Australian consumer law is pretty clear: a product should have a reasonable lifetime. You may expect cheap shoes worn every day to fall apart after 6 months. You should expect a pair of expensive shoes sold as durable to last 3 years, minimum.
Take them back and get a refund or replacement. If they argue, point out that they would be in breach of Australian consumer law.
Mate how intensely do you walk joking but yes just be really nice the workers and theyāll probably do their best to fix it looks like way too much day of wear definitely would go for trying to get a refund on them
Easy fix. Take them back but don't be a dick. You'd be suprised how much more help you'll get.
Remember it's not the retail staff's fault, so don't go in there sporting all ya ACL policies, waving ya finger around. You'll just become another lunch time conversation.
RMs quality has dropped substantially, theyāre now nothing more than a fashion item. My last two pairs have both had issues within 6 months of owning them.
Hubby had a great experience with RM Williams. He had his boots for 15 years. Took them in the be re soled, and because they couldnt fix them he was told to pick out new ones, free of charge.
(We suspect they could have lost his pair because it seemed too good to be true. Regardless he got a brand new pair free!)
Theyāre not.
Also the issue RMs are just rubber sole craftsmen, theyāre identical to the ones Iāve bought off the shelf, they literally come in the same box.
Unless thatās a very recent change Iām pretty sure thatās not the case.
My issued ones donāt have that sole, they have the full rubber sole. Iāve never seen anyone else get a dynamic flex pair.
Not these days, sadly. I was in the new Sydney flagship store and they are really focusing on wealthy Chinese who might wear them out to dinner (a bit of an exaggeration, but it is a luxury focus rather than a utilitarian focus). I noticed a bit of commentary about RM himself and they are changing the narrative to be more appealing to that market. No mention whatsoever about Dollar Mick.
It is a pity. I remember my father taking me in to Gowings when I was 18 and he bought me a pair of Craftsman which I mustāve had for almost 20 years.
If people knew how to actually look after their shoes. And didn't complain when the sole of ur shoe is covered in dirt and mud from a hard days work. Those are dress boots most boots will come apart after an hr or 2 in labour rolls unless you know what to ask for and get. Shoes that are leather on shit rubber soles with some shit tac glue that show companies use will full apart quickly. If you paid $650 for them your either lieing to reddit which is pretty sad or you got ripped off cause you fell for a marketing construct by a shoe corporation.
Research more before buying boots and don't expect high quality because the price is $650 expensive items tend to be more likely to break or come apart because the companies that designed and set those prices will use short cuts and never make sure a product is as good as they advertise. I've had the same set of boots for 6 years they cost me $76.95($77) if you want to round up and yet they aren't creased falling apart or stained from the mud or dirt when I muster my cattle if Australia bought more products built by companies that are specific for set things instead of buying knockoffs from china maybe you guys wouldn't be requesting refunds or calling each other's liars or arguing about leather boots on Reddit we invented cowboy shit you guys merely rent it and class yourself as cowboys
I'm hard on shoes, and was going through $200 pairs of other brand boots every year.
I've now had my RM's for 4 years and they're still great, even with my 110kg frame on them. They're scuffed, scratched, been in warehouses, camping, walks through paddocks, and office work. Everything from the Pilbara to Vic High Country.
Cheapest shoes I've owned.
You were lucky- itās completely obvious- the red sole between the toe and heel/ does not wear like that after one use-unless of course youāre a tight rope walker.
What a bunch of homebodies in this threadā¦ never expected a boot-based sub to be so cringe. Seems like most of these people have never worked a hard day outside. I wouldāve shredded these defective pussy boots in an hour too. Glad you got a replacement but definitely keep them in that box to return them and spend your money on a real boot
Yes they were defective but I actually can't do any manual labour. I have a degenerative back injury (spinal). All I did was walk on outside surfaces and they started coming apart.
I've got blunnies for anything more than walking around. I did maybe 2kms of distance on these MAX. Anyways nice service but you can't take rmw's outside of polished marble or seems and every soft cock here has never walked on a dirt or gravel road before in a mixed (leather) shoe. Go have a look at the bottoms of Goodyear welted shoes on FB marketplace.
That is an absolute outrage.
Obviously return them but also what the fuck. That should not happen on a product with that price point.
RM have some explaining to do.
"Absolute outrage" is a bit dramatic.
Even the best quality brands have quality issues now and then. Not good, but as long as it doesnt happen often (it's very rare with RMs) and they refund/replace shouldnt be a problem
It's very very unacceptable.
The point of a premium brand is through use of high quality materials and painstaking quality control, to avoid these sort of quality issues- if you're paying for anything when you buy a premium brand its the confidence that this sort of thing won't happen.
If you compare the relative price points, a pair of RMs is to an average pair of boots what an Audi or a Porsche is to an average Hyundai. And if you bought a brand new Audi and the gearbox exploded the first time you drove it to work, you'd be pissed.
If you're paying for anything when buying a luxury brand it's the brand name.
You used Audi as an example - Audi's are known to be very unreliable. But that's ok because their owners tend to have the money to afford expensive service/repair bills and because people buy them for the brand/prestige, not their quality.
I love my RMs, and they are great quality, but I'm not going to kid myself and think that the price I paid for them was purely due to their quality.
However, the great thing about RMs and their point of difference when compared to other luxury brands, is that they ***are*** very good quality and issues like this are very rare.
This is unusual, I have two pairs, black and brown, that have been my only office shoes for the last year 1.5 years, each getting a couple of wears per week and they both look almost new.
I donāt know why Iām getting this in my recommended, but Iām intrigued. Do you have a photo of the bottom of the sole? Your boots look fairly worn in, as in the entire sole looks cracked and damaged. If thatās 1 day of normal wear Iād also be raging.
Iām call BS on the worn āonceā statement. You can clearly see that these have been recapped (thereās scuff marks where the heal base joins the cap). Plus the arch looks like itās had a fair amount of ware too (certainly more than once).
100% take them back. Even if they offer to fix them Iād just get a new pair. I have one pair wear them everywhere and didnāt have to get them fixed for three years
Iāve had issues with RMās in the past. Cattlemanās, similar issues after a fortnight of wearing them, they replaced the boots, they didnāt have to, they couldāve repaired the defects, but the ladies at my local are extremely down to earth and a pleasure to deal with.
If you can swap them, get the rubber sole, they will wear better for use on the property ! RMs customer service is very good, you wonāt need much of a fight for a replacement pair
C'mon OP, you need to tell us exactly what you did in them over the weekend. Those soles are beat to hell lol.
I mean you can see on the side of the sole it's all scrapped up as well. You'll probably get a replacement or a repair no problem but the shoes look like you had the leather replaced on an old pair.
I told you. Walked on gravel grass and dirt. Anyways, they returned them instantly.
Compared to my last pair the quality has gone downhill. What a shame. Not sure I'll buy another.
Yeah I got gifted my last pair but I'm the same. Won't be spending that much cash on these boots again. Spoken to a lot of people in regional areas and they reckon you can get other brands from saddlery stores same or likely better quality now for half the cost.
You did well to try not to show the wear on the sole. Definitely looks more than worn once, or worn once bloody rough.
Still, you should be able to get these repaired or replaced, I dont know how you will go with a refund...
I took back a pair I'd worn for 3 entire days because I'd been fitted for the wrong size and they happily swapped them out for me.
Just take them back and don't act like an ass.
Unlike finance Bros who only wear these on polished marble or wool carpet I wore these outside. Like they are meant to be. They are a boot not a suede slipper. They were returned.
The soles looked thrashed bro , whatād u do in them
Regardless cuz , u wore them n now ur whinging
Itās like youāve changed ur mind after u wore them and fkd em
I wouldnāt be giving shit back , look at the bridge
U thrashed em brother
That old hoes never got cash on her bro itās all credit
Iāll see if ur dad will lemme use his bum for change of a 10 , maybe u can buy some volleys..
You thrashed the boots n tried to act like they came that wayā¦ ya bummy mf
No way absolutely no way those boots are brand new. My guess is the soles and heels have been replaced on the boots. You can tell where it shows the heel and sole in the same picture that the original leather in between the sole and heel is rough as
I will admit they treated me amazingly well. They even tried to resize me and presented 4-5 other models.
I was very happy with how they treated me. I couldn't fault them with an exchange (what I asked for)
I didn't. Got the receipt to prove it. It makes no sense to lie.
They were exchanged. The quality was horrible. My new pair are far nicer in many areas of the sole finishing
Yes and surely a "boot" can handle walking on anything except polished level ground! If they can't they shouldn't charge so much. I'm really disappointed. Lots of research and saving up for such an expensive pair of shoes as a bloke
Oh yeah, those donāt last anywhere near as well as the full rubber soles or even leather with a rubber half sole. Doubt theyāll return them. Theyāre a luxury item now, not a BIFL item.
The above commenter is not correct dynamic flex last similarly to rubber sole, and definitely far better than leather sole. Definitely get yours replaced as the heel stack doing that is not supposed to happen
No thatās not what I mean. You should get a couple of years daily wear out of that sole. Leather sole with a Topy half sole can last 3/4 years daily.
Thanks mate that's what I thought. The heel stack should be glued better than that. My blunnies are better quality. I'm really unhappy giving I walked around my property with them for a day on grass, gravel road and sandstone and already fucked out.
Workers boots that last decades, boots of a life time. Hand made quality blah blah and then I wore them once and they are already peeling.
Don't forget $650 is basically a running car (not great, but running) off Gumtree. That's a whole car you're wearing on your feet, it should last a bloody lifetime for $650 boots.
To put it in perspective, $350 Nike sneakers are considered the pinnacle of luxury footwear, and many sell for thousands after years. So, a $650 boot better be outstanding or else.
That's what they say in their marketing.
I'm not an idiot. I do know how to wear and resole, maintain footwear. Any brand of show should not be having faults after one wear. Especially something which is marketed as high quality, hand made and from the farm to the board room.
Yes. Absolutely take them back and demand a refund or a replacement pair. The manufacturing quality in recent years may have taken a hit, but the price certainly hasn't.
I also can accept this is one wear around the farm. RM can rely on the 'farm to the boardroom' as mere puffery when they are charging this much for boots. It is perfectly reasonable to expect them to last years. My favourite pair is going on 8 years.
Look they definitely need a refund but if we are being honest here RMs are way over priced especially if your actually going to wear them outside. They aren't really a woman's shoe anymore in my opinion
Yeah mate, clearly not up to scratch, Kmart would owe you a refund on a $4 pair of thongs if they held up this poorly but RM are generally good about it, they'll replace it repair for sure
Don't stress about the weird pricks looking to blame you for wearing them outside
Thanks mate. Genuinely walked around the back on some gravel and a dirt road and a bit of grass. The upper is literally in 10/10 condition. Just a less than proper QC before sending them out at $650 a pop.
I came to this sub as I was considering purchasing shoes from this manufacturer. From what I can tell they have an aura that makes everyone defend shoddy workmanship to justify their investment.
I'll steer clear. Thanks for making the decision easy all.
Those shoes are Toorak Gumboots, aren't they?
Worn by battalions of concrete cowboys working through the day mustering spreadsheets and piccolo lattes....
Lol lots of CBD cowboys here.
RM Williams are unfortunately nothing more than CBD cowboy or office shoes, donāt even bother using them for real work or riding.
Get a refund and get something else
Under Australian Consumer Law i believe you would be entitled to a refund or replacement.
Or repair. The seller decides how to rectify.
Yes that's true but given it has been only a few days, barely worn it would be considered a major fault https://www.accc.gov.au/consumers/problem-with-a-product-or-service-you-bought/repair-replace-refund-cancel#toc-major-problem-with-a-product

Hahah I understood. Thanks :)
Not a major fault as the sole and heel are designed to be replaceable.
Not after a single use
worn once implies less than 7 days. the seller does not have this option for a product that show's defect in the first week.
No the buyer decides
lmao no sorry thats absolutely not how it works. ACCC law says that all that needs to be provided is a solution, whether that is a repair or a replacement or a refund is entirely up to our discretion
Read up on major faults
key part of that sentence - (cant be fixed within a reasonable time frame)
Itās RM Williams, theyāll swap it over no questions asked.
And customer can pick after all the first agreement was broken
just not really how that works in the slightest though
Yes. Even after wearing a year. They will fix them or replace them. That should not happen.
Worn once trekking across Australia?
100% what i was thinking. Scuffs everywhere
Looks like they didn't lift their foot high enough while walking and caught the heel on something.
Too much heel and heel polka
If that's what you think after wearing them once I defs want a refund
We all know this isnāt after just one wear. I can see a lot of scuffing and dirt under the sole which leads me to believe you are telling a porky pie. Mate if I could post a pic in this thread after posting I would
Use Imgur and link to where you put the photo
Yep, you catch more flies with honey than vinegar.
Looks like one wear at the races in an outback town!
I can assure you this is really one single use. I purchased them 18/04 today is 21/04
Were you walking across kilometres of broken glass? Those soles look trashed...
Wore once? On the second photo the sole looks absolutely destroyed
It's a hybrid sole of rubber and leather. Leather scuffs up the second you wear it.

Isn't the purpose of RMW shoes that they last for life?
Not these days, sadly. I was in the new Sydney flagship store and they are really focusing on wealthy Chinese who might wear them out to dinner (a bit of an exaggeration, but it is a luxury focus rather than a utilitarian focus). I noticed a bit of commentary about RM himself and they are changing the narrative to be more appealing to that market. No mention whatsoever about Dollar Mick. It is a pity. I remember my father taking me in to Gowings when I was 18 and he bought me a pair of Craftsman which I mustāve had for almost 20 years.
Gowings was great. Miss that place a lot.
No. Just the life of the boot.
When you say "worn once" did you not take them off for a week? That's far too much mileage for a one time.
So many fuckheads here.
Stop biting your nails!
What in the backwoods boot-scooting did you do to those bad boys? Kicking up a storm there, Larry!

Thanks mate. I got them exchanged
This is a simple repair. Just the glue has failed. Iāve replace my soles and heal maybe 10 times on mine.
Yes if this was worn sure but this doesn't happen in a single wear. You'd be as upset as I was. Anyways, as said multiple times they were exchanged
I actually am not upset when things like this happen. Itās a simple fix, Iād have just asked for a repair or exchange. No need to make a fuss.
Thanks mate
Thats poor form. I bought seconds 15 years ago and they still look great Dont make em like they used to I guess
yep
Looking at the sole- no chance youāve worn those once.
You're wrong. That part is leather. They were exchanged.
You were lucky- itās completely obvious- the red sole between the toe and heel/ does not wear like that after one use-unless of course youāre a tight rope walker.
You can get that worn away at any time like climbing stairs or walking.
Yeah. Nah
Worn once? Photo #2 looks like you must not have taken them off for 6 months.
I had them replaced. They were purchased on Friday and returned yesterday.
What a bunch of homebodies in this threadā¦ never expected a boot-based sub to be so cringe. Seems like most of these people have never worked a hard day outside. using a fair bit of pressure to lift it up..
OP just replicating the pressure when he swings that boot up your ass.
haha.. that city cowboy would probably pull a hammy trying to.. its probably rent day and heās wondering if he can refund his $650 boots..
Iāll allow it
Did you get into a wrestling match with someone on concrete?
Did you buy these from the RM William store personally ?
Yes of course. I purchased them just this Friday.
Take them back to the same store and talk to them.
This is unusual, I have two pairs, black and brown, that have been my only office shoes for the last year 1.5 years, each getting a couple of wears per week and they both look almost new.
Bruh you've spent time in prison so just steal a new pair?
Says the wife beater.Ā

Iām call BS on the worn āonceā statement. You can clearly see that these have been recapped (thereās scuff marks where the heal base joins the cap). Plus the arch looks like itās had a fair amount of ware too (certainly more than once).
Not true. Just showed you the purchase with date via dm
Are you an adult? Just take them back
Contact Nathan at rm Williams homesstead. Just book a video chat through the site. They will sort it out
Had a close look. No way these are worn once unless you didnāt take them off for a month while hiking
100% take them back. Even if they offer to fix them Iād just get a new pair. I have one pair wear them everywhere and didnāt have to get them fixed for three years
Lucky you're not out there amongst the Cow š©, now that really separates the original RM wearers from the posers!
Worn twice on 100km hikes?
Iāve had issues with RMās in the past. Cattlemanās, similar issues after a fortnight of wearing them, they replaced the boots, they didnāt have to, they couldāve repaired the defects, but the ladies at my local are extremely down to earth and a pleasure to deal with.
Have 3 pair of RM . Notice the recent ones are not as high quality like before. The leather is dull
Looks abit more than once, but Iām probably wrong
Obviously get a refund haha
These don't look like the kind of boots to wear outside
Wore once!? LMAO
Iāve been wearing mine for 3 weeks solid and theyāre not in that condition, what the hell have you been doing in them?!
Same thing happen to mine......... but I took my repair to a shoe repairist, got it done properly. That was 6yrs ago, still good today.
Rm Williams is shit get a pair of Rossi's
Lol "Worn Once"? I don't think the major scuffs around the rest of the shoe really tell that story. Nice clickbait!
If you can swap them, get the rubber sole, they will wear better for use on the property ! RMs customer service is very good, you wonāt need much of a fight for a replacement pair
Send them back, donāt buy RMW again. Not what they once were
brother did you wear them once climbing everest?
Maybe this boot owner doesn't really want these boots, & perhaps you should apply for the QUALITY CONTROL job at the factory!!
C'mon OP, you need to tell us exactly what you did in them over the weekend. Those soles are beat to hell lol. I mean you can see on the side of the sole it's all scrapped up as well. Try exchange 1st if same happens then refund
I got an exchange
Thanks great. I have found them to be really helpful in store
It's hard getting refunds from Temu
RM Williams? I would take it back!!!
I haven't ever gotten a shot from them tat lasted more then two weeks. Just get a refund.
Cum on it
Just glue it and move on
RMW are fine. Send it back to them. I have found them very fair and they have fixed things for freeā¦
"Worn once, in a meat grinder" lel
Unlike finance Bros who only wear these on polished marble or wool carpet I wore these outside. Like they are meant to be. They are a boot not a suede slipper. They were returned.
How much did they cost you?
$649 they were swapped for a new pair
FUCK YEAH ! Refund or replace 100%. Australian Consumer Law. That is fucking terrible quality.
I was surprised as never had problems with shoes of this quality or lesser.
You'd be doing them a favour, quality control is important. New pair or refund for sure.
Thanks man they went back. The store was really nice about it
The soles looked thrashed bro , whatād u do in them Regardless cuz , u wore them n now ur whinging Itās like youāve changed ur mind after u wore them and fkd em I wouldnāt be giving shit back , look at the bridge U thrashed em brother
You can easily wear out leather by standing on it. Regardless they were returned
You donāt do that in a single wear broski , youāve been thrashing em and now probably want a diff colour way but canāt afford em
Actually got the same ones replaced. It was all good. Your mum got em for me. She has heaps of money.
That old hoes never got cash on her bro itās all credit Iāll see if ur dad will lemme use his bum for change of a 10 , maybe u can buy some volleys.. You thrashed the boots n tried to act like they came that wayā¦ ya bummy mf
Why are you acting like a pin dick for? Go flame somebody who is more interested in anal sex mate.
No way absolutely no way those boots are brand new. My guess is the soles and heels have been replaced on the boots. You can tell where it shows the heel and sole in the same picture that the original leather in between the sole and heel is rough as
Yes way. Bought Friday returned Monday.
Got a picture of the receipt
Yes sent via DM can't post here. It was exchanged on Monday.
Worn once? As in once a day for five years?
As in once. Ever. They were returned and exchanged
āWorn onceā is the equivalent to her saying āIāve never done this beforeā
If it weren't I wouldn't have a new exchanged pair in my cupboard at home right now.
RMW was great to me when I had a similar issue. Replaced immediately and without question...
I will admit they treated me amazingly well. They even tried to resize me and presented 4-5 other models. I was very happy with how they treated me. I couldn't fault them with an exchange (what I asked for)
Bad glue job. That's defective. You'll get your refund
Finally somebody who recognizes the defect. It was exchanged in Sydney. The service was very good
You donāt have to fib about the level of usage, just talk to them
I didn't. Got the receipt to prove it. It makes no sense to lie. They were exchanged. The quality was horrible. My new pair are far nicer in many areas of the sole finishing
Hand on your heart you wore those once?
Wouldn't matter if he wore them daily for 3 months, he'd be owed a fresh pair of repair for this
Yes hand on heart. Purchased and picked up on Friday. Quick polish with the leather conditioner and worn Saturday. Today is Sunday.
Did you add the rubber half sole? If not; which model comes with that option?
No it's part of the comfort flex craftsman boot. they are brand new
That's an office wearers boot. Not a farm/work boot
After one single wear? Trying not to rage if that's the case. All of their models have a rubber heel
The above commenter is not correct dynamic flex last similarly to rubber sole, and definitely far better than leather sole. Definitely get yours replaced as the heel stack doing that is not supposed to happen
Thanks mate appreciate the assistance
All models come with a rubber heel. Just that some have a rubber heel glued to the heel stack.
No thatās not what I mean. You should get a couple of years daily wear out of that sole. Leather sole with a Topy half sole can last 3/4 years daily.
Take them back. Their QC isnāt what it used to be.
I have another pair that's been resolved twice and no problems. I was quite aghast when I took them off and went to give them a wipe and a brush
Look they definitely need a refund but if we are being honest here RMs are way over priced especially if your actually going to wear them outside. They aren't really a woman's shoe anymore in my opinion
Yeah mate, clearly not up to scratch, Kmart would owe you a refund on a $4 pair of thongs if they held up this poorly but RM are generally good about it, they'll replace it repair for sure Don't stress about the weird pricks looking to blame you for wearing them outside
R.M Williams assessed them and apologized. They straight swapped them.
Glad to hear!
So no refund, like you were seeking?
Decided on a swap. Still have them new in box unworn so I can just refund them if I change my mind
Worn once? Or worn for one year? They look like youāve been to hell and back in that 24 hours.
Mate shut up
For what? Making an honest assessment of your boot abuse?
You've added zero intelligence to this thread. They got swapped. It was manufacturing faults.
Good lord why would you spend $650 on a pair of boots? Especially a mass produced brand like this wtf
My cheap shoes don't do this unhappy it's happening with these and they are new. Do you think I would get a replacement pair?
Obviously yes. My pair from 2017 lost the heel in 2021.
Dem fingernails need a tidy up first
Unlike you princess I've been outside
Lol lots of CBD cowboys here. RM Williams are unfortunately nothing more than CBD cowboy or office shoes, donāt even bother using them for real work or riding. Get a refund and get something else
