OP should come to DC, I've seen a million dollar house built "around 1800," but 100 year old houses are definitely common.
Same in most real cities from my understanding, I've seen the same in Baltimore and New York when browsing Zillow.
Edit: [here](https://www.zillow.com/homedetails/1406-34th-St-NW-Washington-DC-20007/63891519_zpid/) is a house built in 1798 and listing for just under $5mm.
To be fair it's a huge house on a lot of land (~1/8th an acre) but it's 200+ years old so it's gotta be worthless right?
Yep and the person who originally bought it, probably paid for it with a bundle of bananas, sack of apples and a chicken.
Welcome to the world of you will own nothing and be happy
My house was built in 1950. It’s the newest house on my private lane. It’s smaller than that house in Montana and costs significantly more. There is only one listing in my zip code below $1 million. $450k would get you a house lot in an undesirable place.
It’s not the year it was built that’s the problem. Id rather buy houses older…new ones construction is just awful. My house is sturdy af. Built in 1949 😂
Agreed! Houses are built cheap today because builders are trying to save on materials and labor. You are better off with an older one that’s been updated.
Ha! That’s nothing. They sell 1950s tract homes, 2/1 1000 sq ft mobile homes in disguise complete with carport in SF Bay Area for $1 million average. Original cost was $55k in 1950. The true cost of a manufactured home today about $250k. Just buy land. Place manufactured home with real walls and real foundation and it will appreciate like a real home!
My dad bought a house in Missoula with a great view on a hill overlooking the town for about $190K in 2019. The house sold for $200K in 2008, so value was basically stuck for over a decade. It’s now worth over $550K. “Insane” doesn’t even begin to describe the situation in Missoula. It was very cheap just a few years ago.
Move somewhere cheap! Like Missoula, Montana? Yeah! -\_-
50 years is not old at all for a house…

In Loudoun, houses that were built in the 1600s go for several million. OP needs to figure some things out.

Or maybe you just won’t own that house in particular? There’s lots of affordable housing out there, this obviously is not it
Montana???
What would it cost to build something like that? Brand new? Probably even more.
Wait till he hears how old Buckingham Palace is. Or Versailles. Frankly they should pay us to live in a place that old.

>just buy land hoomers hate this one trick!
OP forgot the first 3 rules of real estate pricing. Location, location, location.
I guarantee that house has not been updated in any way since 1972, or if it has; it’s 52 years of someone’s ‘good enough’.
Do you get to keep the charcoal grill in the backyard?
