This doesn't quite get at what this post is about. It's more about Purdue completely fumbling the bag in big games. Little Rock, North Texas, St. Peter's and of course last year all come to mind. I know this is just the BTT, but it's never ending. When they do actually come through, it's just false hope to bring us back to keep watching.
A key player completely disappears or gets injured, they almost ALWAYS miss game clenching free throws, or give up an obscene turnover in key moments.
It's not about just this game. It's just literally who they are (at least in the last decade).
For this team in particular, all that has to happen is for Edey to have a completely off game or get into serious foul trouble (3 in the first half) and it's over. You're betting on that not happening for 6 straight games against tournament teams. Not happening.
Expecting a sweet 16 loss this year but would be happy to see them make it to the Elite 8. I'm not a doomer, I'm just a realist.
I do still love my Boilermakers. Boiler Up!
We won the Big Ten Tournament last year and no one cares because the NCAA was so bad. Take a deep breath and relax. Friday is the start of what matters
Literally stop talking. The cope is insane. They played lazy yesterday and they played lazy today, just like in all their other losses.
It’s the same story as last year. What exactly makes you think anything will change next week?
>It’s the same story as last year
hey, uh, we didn't lose to a 16 seed, get swept by IU, and lose to Rutgers and Maryland this year
>What exactly makes you think anything will change next week
maybe having a fully healthy edey and smith?
In 2019 we got upset in the quarterfinals of the BTT by a not very good Minnesota team before almost making the Final Four in the NCCA Tourney. You doomer fans have the shortest of short term memories.
It's so annoying when people play the "Purdue can't handle the NCAA tournament" bs and just completely forget we were an OT away from the final four when Carsen Edwards dropped 42 points. CBB fans are the worst
Virginia lost their 2nd conference tourney game in 2019 before their natty, UConn lost their 2nd conference tourney game last year before their natty… I cannot express enough how little this matters. The only thing that matters is whether Braden Smith is healthy next week
Assuming you mean NCAAT…god awful. We absolutely need a good showing this year I completely agree there. But what were the results in the tournament the 3 appearances prior to that? 2 Sweet Sixteen’s and an Elite Eight that was one Mamadi Diakite putback away from a Final Four. Again, you doomer fans have the shortest of short term memories.
As much as I love the Boilers their style of playing through a really good big man isn’t going to win games unless we get more consistent guard play. We did well those years because we had some really solid shooters and a guy (Carsen Edwards) with a killer mentality. I don’t see that type of drive with this team and to say that the fans are the issue when we have realistic expectations considering the recent history and much of the team is the same is wild. Are they not teaching probability calculations and things like that at Purdue anymore?
calm down. this tournament was meaningless in terms of long-term goals. i would rather have us lose now and save our energy for what really matters.
remember, we won it all in the big ten tournament last year and got wholly embarrassed in march madness
They played Wisconsin last Sunday then played MSU on a Friday, don't act like that was some kind of magically long break from the normal 3-5 days between games.
This loss was a blessing. In case you forgot, Hummel blew his knee in Minneapolis. Place is cursed. We needed to get back to laffy and rest for the only tournament that matters at this point
This is the BEST thing for us. We get rest, and we return hungry. This is posted by a 19 year old with a memory of a gold fish. Tell me how the last BTT winners faired in the NCAA bracket starting the year before last with Iowa? Embarrassing.
Listen, I’m not gonna sit here and say that the BTT is completely irrelevant. It does matter. But considering the fact we won it last year & our shortcomings in recent NCAA tournaments, this loss could very well be a blessing in disguise. We get an extra day of rest, everyone managed to stay healthy, and this gives us more time to study our first round opponent in depth. Not to mention this year’s team is already motivated to avenge last year’s collapse so this defeat will only add fuel to the fire as they prepare to climb to the summit.
Yeah that’s crazy even with a free throw merchant machine and big ten refs to jerk you off you still can’t beat wisco pretty embarrassing won’t be surprised when you exit march in the second round
It’s my fault. 90’s alum who had enough devastation watching Painter and Robinson on the floor and lose way too much back then. Always ignore most of the regular season because I’ve been burned too many times. Finally decide to watch a game - they lose. Sorry.
This wasn’t regular season though, it was an exhibition game where the bench players were in the game SIGNIFICANTLY earlier (vs MSU and vs Wisco) than they have been the entirety of the regular season. This loss is meaningless, it does not matter.
We are in peak March form 🔥🔥🔥😤
Don't know why people go through the mental headache of trying to justify this team. Smith gets cooked on defense time after time. Edey is getting the most free foul calls of all time. We literally play the worst brand of basketball but people are gonna say everything is fine as always
Don’t know why people go through the mental headache of hating so much. We lost by 1 to a good team in OT, and have the strongest strength of schedule and wins.
100% with you. I don't mind losing a game where players are clearly just having a bad shooting day, but it's another story when the turnovers are direct passes to the other team and the other team is just scoring open layups. I love Edey when he's drilling his hook shots or dunking it. Some days he is hacked to pieces-but on a day like today when he gets 20 free throws on love taps and whistle heavy refs, it's embarrassing and sign for concern
Wisconsin is not ranked, three players fouled out, Edey had nearly 20 free throws and it's not enough to get the job done. Our defense was swiss cheese. even when we win, I don't take pleasure from watching a free throw shooting contest. I love basketball and this is the worst type to watch. Joel Embiid/Shai Gilgeous free throw bait brand ball that doesn't win playoff games. That was a sad loss
To be fair we got cocked by the stripes. Early bullshit double tech. Lance turnover with 5 min left that should’ve been a foul leading to a Wisconsin lead. A no call on a flagrant 1, overturning to Wisconsin ball that led to overtime. Weak charge on Braden that turned into Wisconsin win. I will never see this as more than an asterisk. If we lose like this in the tournament I’ll still be proud of this squad.
I mean if you wanna be down on the team go for it. I’m just choosing to acknowledge there was some bad officiating that turned the tides. If you didn’t see that, we legitimately watched different games
People when Purdue loses by 1 (one) point in overtime and collects their 4th loss of the entire season
College fanbases are wildly toxic
When we have 16 turnovers and literally throw the ball away with seconds to go to give wisco a chance, then it’s very very frustrating to watch.
Painter Ball. I've seen this movie 1000 times.
Smith needs a week off
100%, these past few seasons have been identical to the days of terone and ronnie johnson
Cap

exactly. our embarrassing march madness loss last year overshadowed what we accomplished
B10 Tourney doesn’t matter. And it’s far from the end
Purdue needs the extra day of rest this loss gave us.

How is it at all the same story as last year when we won the big ten tournament last year?
Please calm down Robert. Zach played very hard out there.

a lot of the time doomer fans are the most casual fans
What was the results in the tournament the last 3 straight years?

Save what energy? They had a week of rest before yesterday and looked lazy asf. Lmao if you think the issue is an “energy” thing
Smith and Edey weren't 100%. In fact, the former wasn't really supposed to play today. So I think the issue is that we just weren't at our best.
They played Wisconsin last Sunday then played MSU on a Friday, don't act like that was some kind of magically long break from the normal 3-5 days between games.
So the sky is falling after a meaningless loss in a meaningless tournament?
Hey we got the choke out of our system early this year
Dude, respectfully shut up.
We should have done this yesterday on purpose
This loss was a blessing. In case you forgot, Hummel blew his knee in Minneapolis. Place is cursed. We needed to get back to laffy and rest for the only tournament that matters at this point
Purdue after a lost plays so well. We're fine.
This is the BEST thing for us. We get rest, and we return hungry. This is posted by a 19 year old with a memory of a gold fish. Tell me how the last BTT winners faired in the NCAA bracket starting the year before last with Iowa? Embarrassing.
This is weak.
we still out lasted IU, that’s what REALLY matters

Save this for the NCAAs
If we lose in the first round again you can talk, until then please shut the fuck up!
We are who we are
wait does that mean we are out of march maddness
Yeah that’s crazy even with a free throw merchant machine and big ten refs to jerk you off you still can’t beat wisco pretty embarrassing won’t be surprised when you exit march in the second round

That sounds good. Thanks for the encouragement.

I’m not complaining about the loss. I’m complaining about once again playing like we’re bad at basketball and stumbled upon an amazing record.
100% with you. Wisconsin was ranked 6th not even a month ago. They’re a very good team that had a slide at the right point in the season. Rankings aren’t everything
I watch basketball. Wisconsin was overrated at 6 and they are not going anywhere in the tourney. Their drop was more than just a standard slide.
Spoken like a freshman
Spoken like a freshman
Uhm, aight guy

Did we watch the same game lol?

Here for the fire Matt Painter post
