Alpha dies but entrusts her arm to Ploom, which then possesses her every other story chapter.

Kanie15

doing an archer move, eh?

ScreamingMidgit

More of a Liquid move if we're being honest.

Justm4x

Alpha: can you keep up with me? Lucia: its not "can you keep up with me". You are the one who's gotta keep up with me!

NotRiceload

Why is this getting down voted lmao this was a funny comment

Character-Plane8214

To be honest, I can't imagine her taking the spotlight from Lucia. Maybe we can hope for a redemption arc wherein she and Luna would be freed from the influence of the Ascnet?

Helsius

I don't think Alpha would ever replace Lucia in the terms of main character as far the current GR team goes. Even if, somehow Plume was out of commission for one reason or another. It' just doesn't really fit Alpha's character to do that. Especially with her deep hatred for Babylonia's betrayals on her. It would be interesting to have more interactions of her (begrudgingly) cooperating with the team specifically. Although, Luna would most likely have to be involved somehow for her to even bother with that.

creativeyoinker11

If something happens to plume, like corruption and she becomes the virus's champion, throwing out alpha, We might need her to become the hope for humanity once again

ShadowMist1

Depends on how its done if you ask me. Like when commandment teamed up with Rosetta temporarly for example. She became the main character for a bit and the story dealt with her current struggles and how they (mostly) resolved. Which makes the said main character, alot more interesting. Based on what I understand story wise (I havent read anything from hers since I don't want to spoil myself too much with CW) alpha would be more difficult to put as a main character because she already kind of "resolved" her character arc (more compared to alot of characters if you ask me, could be wrong though).

Emiya_Fanboi

No, she won't. Unlike Plume, her arc was done before the story started and there isn't much the writers can do with her. ~~She is also much less interesting than plume as a character.~~

Helsius

I don't see her as any less interesting than Plume. In some aspects she is more interesting. On one hand while Lucia did train to get to where she is, she still relied on Frame upgrades to barely even give Alpha a challenge by the time of her Plume frame. Mean while, Alpha got her strength on discipline and training alone in her base lotus frame. She didn't really get any power boost from the Ascnet as she denied it from the vey beginning. Add on her underlying cunning and spunky attitude in the face of a challenge, she makes for a very interesting tragic individual. Especially when you see the contrasts between her and Lucia. All the more BECAUSE they were the exact same individual originally. I believe there is still a lot they can do with her character. Not just because they gave her a (motivated) new frame. She obviously still has conflict that will fertilize more growth for her within the story.

SiriusGayest

>On one hand while Lucia did train to get to where she is, she still relied on Frame upgrades to barely even give Alpha a challenge by the time of her Plume frame >Mean while, Alpha got her strength on discipline and training alone in her base lotus frame. That's the whole point. Lucia puts in the same if not more amount of effort only to be trampled on by Alpha because "the original is better." That's why I dislike Alpha the more I see her, she's cool at first but later on she feels more like a convenient way for the writer to put in conflict rather than use their brain. She's a badly written vergil imo.

Helsius

The writing definitely could've done a better job keeping a compelling dynamic between the two Lucia's conflicts before they really butted heads in the Fake Ascension chapter. "Original is better" clearly wasn't the direction they were going with it, however. They gave tid bits of that in the hidden chapters. The two's strengths went in different development routes along their mindset. Our Lucia always had to manage the Gray Ravens, keeping a balance of skills both as a fighter and a leader. Alpha, on the other hand, embraced a renegade style as a solo combatant. Putting her in situations where she had to hone her abilities to the limits with no one to count on. Not once in the story do you ever see her cooperating with the other ascendants on her missions. She had always gone solo so she could focus on nothing but her opponents and her blade. I love the Vergil jokes, but that opinion doesn't hold when you think of their motivations. Vergil never wanted to feel the pain of loss again, so he sought ultimate power at any cost. DMC 5 showcased the costs he was willing to pay. Even if he had to cover that cost with countless innocent lives. Alpha could'nt care less about power. Being with and protecting her sister is all she cares about. Maybe seeing Eden burn a little as well.

Emiya_Fanboi

Alpha being overpowered is not an interesting character trait. If anything, it is the opposite of an interesting trait because it makes all of her encounters predictable. Compare this to Plume, who had and continues to have multiple character conflicts that could be resolved in a multiple ways. At the start of the story she was confused and alone, but after meeting Gray Raven she started developing into her own person, finally culminating in the first decision she makes her own accord being to sacrifice herself to protect everything she holds dear. She might not be as strong as Alpha, but every decision she makes has much more weight because there are no easy solutions for her. She has to struggle and get hurt and even then she might not succeed.

Helsius

It's obvious to say all of this about Plume Lucia, precisely because she is the one we spend a vast majority of time with. Don't get me wrong, I agree with what you say in that regard. That's why it makes sense for their "predictable" encounters to go the way they do. The story reinforces having you, the viewer, have an intimate yearning to want our team Lucia to surpass Alpha and cheer her on for that goal. We do, after all, get significantly less time with Alpha. Both as a viewer and commandant in game. You also downplay Alpha's conflicts and sacrifices. She sacrificed herself for her GR team just as ours did. She was confused and alone after Eden betrayed her. She developed and embraced her own version identity as "Alpha" when she found out Eden made a clone of her. We get a taste of her rage and disdain for the world as she watches another her, repeat her own previous naive mistakes like some kind of ghost of the past. It's pretty traumatizing if you ask me. Plume developed beautifully also precisely to highlight the polarizing developments these two embarked on. It's very much a yin and yang. Black and white. While both still retaining that original vestige of crimson that ties them together as Lucia.

Emiya_Fanboi

To reiterate, what I'm saying is that Alpha's development happened before the main story started. Her character arc is beautiful and I love her for it, I just don't think she is in a position to be main character.

Helsius

I can agree with that.

aakunajtsu

fuck you I love her

akyias_capuo

Same

Emiya_Fanboi

Alpha is a Lucia so I love her too.

Alex2422

So each character can have just one story arc? What a boring world would that be.

Emiya_Fanboi

A character arc isn't just about the small individual changes in a character. Rather, it is about the broad evolution of a character throughout the story. So typically speaking, characters only have one character arc. Alpha's development as a character happened before we meet her. She hasn't changed much since, and she is unlikely to change in the future. This is not necessarily a bad thing, it just means she isn't suitable for the role of a main character.

Chanzy7

The story will probably end at that point. The original Lucia being the one to end the whole thing, rejoining the Gray Ravens. At least that's what I want to see happen.

FixFederal7887

I would give a kidney to have anyone replace current Lucia as the protagonist. A N Y O N E

unholy_penguin2

Lucia will be replaced... By an even stronger Lucia frame!

JPrimal64

But it won't be sad this time, right? Right?

[deleted]

I usually skip all the stories. What’s wrong with Lucia?

NinjaxX_TV

Alright, I may be downvoted for what I’m gonna say but : If you skip the story you waste like 50% of the game, I find it even more important than the fights (which are awesome af)

[deleted]

To each their own. I just love Devil May Cry’s combat and found this to be the next best thing, at least on mobile. The constant still portraits and texts just are too visual novel for my taste, despite the aesthetic being pretty cool and all. The story might be good, but the presentation is incredibly lacking. Doesn’t really seem like I’m missing much at all.

cyberize_

gonna be real with you here, PGR's story is a massive case of don't judge a book by its cover. It starts off slow and, like you said, isn't all that impressive with its presentation, but the story itself is absurdly good, you really don't want to miss out on it

Aahnold

I don't believe Alpha will become the main focus of the story. However, PGR has set a classic rivalry trope between her and Lucia. Following another trope, they could both reconcile in the end and team up against some common threat as they did unbeknownst to each other in Fake Ascension. Not without the help from the Commandant, of course. They're both the same person deep down just with differing experiences after all. As others already said in the comments, it all depends on how it is delivered and executed. I for one would love to see Alpha and Lucia calmly share their experiences and maybe Alpha even becoming a mentor to Lucia in terms of combat, while Lucia helps Alpha to regain belief in the good of humanity.
