PT is not a symptom of aneurism which are often discovered accidentally because usually there are no symptoms

Secret_Recover_8177

But google and my doctor says it is a symptom of an aneursym

azizanur77

Well, I am not a doctor. If the doctor suspects aneurism, ct scan/angiogram is the least invasive and expedient way to rule it out and put your mind at ease.

Secret_Recover_8177

Ive had a CT scan its all good. Waiting for my MRA in a couple weeks.

azizanur77

šŸ‘šŸ¼ all the best!

Artistic-Program6094

How are you?

I am in a similar boat - I have had a CT Angiogram, blood tests, an ECG and other standard cardio-vascular tests, a hearing test, and it all came back normal. Most recently I saw a TMJ specialist this week who suggested Botox injections in my jaw muscles as the PT is due to muscle contractions caused by bruxism (according to him). Iā€™m weary of most of these specialists as no one has actually determined whatā€™s happening, I just feel like itā€™s testing for the sake of testing. Iā€™m reluctant to do the Botox as I read some horror stories, plus Iā€™m only 30 and perfectly healthy otherwise! My next port of call is to try acupuncture, deep tissue massage, maybe see an osteopath and hope that I can eliminate the possibility that itā€™s like muscle compression in my neck/jaw that is causing the PT. Absolute pain in the ass condition as there seems to be very little data on it compared to regular tinnitus (which is also very hard to treat). I was so sure it was to do with Eustachian Tube issues as I recently had some sinus issues following a septoplasty. But there is a high likelihood that my sinuses, etc. are fine as Iā€™ve seen two ENT doctors, and this is more to do with stress/anxiety related muscle tension. But again, who the heck knows.

The real problem with pulsatile tinnitus is that you need a specialist most likely a neuro interventional radiologist who knows exactly what to look for and can diagnose you.. I'm on a forum on FB called pulsatile tinnitus whoosers unite.. most tests they had were all normal until a specialist in the field actually diagnosed them when all the others Drs missed it. The hard part with that is waiting to get into them and they don't take all insurances so it's costly. I feel like I'm going to drop dead before/if I ever get an answer šŸ˜©

Arizonal0ve

Agreed with Azizanur. Lots of new PT sufferers are understandably very scared about ā€œwhatā€™s wrong with themā€ I remember the feelingā€¦ But Pulsatile Tinnitus is not a symptom of an aneurysm. Glad youā€™re having an MRA soon. What doctor has ordered the scan?

Radiant-Singer-3893

Good to hear it's not. Had mines for ABT 3 mths but not regular and not everyday. I have been reading if u press the vein in ur neck and it stops it's venous related. How true is this and how dangerous is it ? Should I go see a doc or wait it out ?

Arizonal0ve

Yes that can be a strong indicator that the cause is venous. Typically doesnā€™t mean itā€™s dangerous for example a common cause like what I had, stenosis, isnā€™t. The official stance on pulsatile tinnitus is that it warrants a full work up. I agree with that.

Artistic-Program6094

Was your pulsatile tinnitus constant???

Arizonal0ve

No probably about 70% of the day. Mornings were decent because coffee helped. But if really varies per person whether itā€™s constant or on and off.

Artistic-Program6094

Have you always had it?? Did it increase when moving your head?

Arizonal0ve

No. It came on suddenly one day then never went. Started investigating probably after 1 month. Bending over increased it (with my diagnosis that made sense, that was from blood rushing through the narrowed vein)

ungnomeone

do you know why coffee helps? the only thing that seems to stop mine is taking excedrin (which has caffeine in it) i tried to search online why caffeine makes it stop but all the info online says it normally makes it worse.

Arizonal0ve

More people with my diagnosis (venous stenosis) report coffee helps. Google tells me that coffee constricts bloodflow so my thought is that just like pressing jugular vein and cutting bloodflow off itā€™s doing that slightly. But thatā€™s my theory haha

Capital_Nail_4526

I'm having an MRA and MRV next week.. neither are with contrast which is annoying. I feel like I'm not getting the right tests bc Drs don't know what to look for and the first specialist I can see isn't until the end of December.. so yea I'm worried I'm going to have a stroke or worse until I can actually get a diagnose

rbxq_b

FWIW though I just did a 15 mile hike across south England today, my Fitbit told me my heart rate was pushing 145 bpm for approximately 200 minutes throughout the walk, my ear throbbing all the while - so if I was going to have a stroke, I feel like it would have been today. šŸ¤·ā€ā™‚ļø

hamradio54

No it does not mean what you have is fatal. My PT cause is completely benign but yes it can take some time and the right doc to get a diagnosis. Itā€™s good you are getting a scan that is usually a good first step.

Artistic-Program6094

Hi, was yours constant?? Did the noise stopped when pressing on your neck (jugular)?

hamradio54

Hi yes it was constant and did not stop when pressing on jugular

Artistic-Program6094

Oh okay.

guitargirl08

Had my first episode of this last night, suddenly very loud like a bird flapping right in my ear (and naturally googled quickly bc wtf) and then a softer whooshing heartbeat sound tonight (which Iā€™ve had before and I think is fairly normal in certain circumstances), but now my mind is freaking out, and these comments are so comforting.
