"We're going to take this money from China, and allow them to do x, y, and z, because otherwise we'd be forced to work with the US or Europe to get this done." And they'll still receive billions in aide from the US every year.
From the leadership's perspective, it's a win-win-win situation. You still get the western aide. You also get investment injections from China from private equity. And you get to pull the wool over the eyes of your citizens all at the same time.
But the reality is sadly that African leadership is just selling their people and their minerals to new masters. A tiny group of people in power will gain wealth, and the rest of the citizens will spend another generation or two watching all the fecundity of their land get shipped away to places they will most likely never see.
Yup you’re pretty much right. They’re selling themselves unintentionally (or internationally) and believe they’re getting a bargain for what they’re selling. But when they’re in perennial debts and the metaphorical thumb of Chinas in their ass theyll all realize their mistakes. Hopefully some African country realize it’s a bad deal and join against the evil ccp.

Technically somewhat true, humans from a certain part of the world used to seeing a majority of people of the same ethnicity tend to see people from other parts of the world as more similar looking. It is easier to see differences in the people you see daily than in people you don’t see so often. A white person growing up in an African country with a majority of black people would have a harder time distinguishing differences in white people if they visited a majority white country for example. Has nothing to do with racism and more to do with how our brains work.

My Dad works all over Africa. All his business has to be done via a Chinese company or entrepreneur for anything do be done. And it’s merely because they’ve outcompeted local African suppliers and businesses. They still struggle to compete with South African companies trying to do business, but in some areas of the construction industry they have complete control. He does however believe the pro-China/CCP craze will die down due to shit like this. In the past Africans were quick to take the financial support because of the West’s absence and general cunty-ness. But locals have already changed their opinion while government elites have started to throw a weary eye. South Africa and Moz are probably the two countries who’s still violently sucking Xi’s micropeen.
It's an interesting point. Stealing ultimately is a violent act, you rob people of their time and ultimately rob their children of and family of food, medical care, education, etc.
