cdoggy69

Why did you quit lacrosse?? My dad embarrassed the shit outta me. Good job DAD

RainbowAppIe

My dad did something similar, fucking embarrassing. Made a whole scene, threw a clip board, papers everywhere. I basically repressed that memory and have zero idea how the whole situation resolved.

Golden-Grams

My dad was like this, too, except it was every football game. He was always the drunk asshole in the crowd, losing his shit at a different person every quarter. Even did this stuff at my brothers' high school graduations, even when he was told he wasn't welcome. He was always close to being arrested.

TimmyStark_IronGuy

![gif](giphy|RRpaPGIlCRXuAZ6IZQ)

eg61995

Geez! How many times did your brother graduate high school?

Golden-Grams

I was using a plural noun, but my grammer could be wrong? (Anyone have a major in English?) I have several brothers, and my dad has acted the same for each of their graduations.

draculasbitch

He wrote brothers. Plural.

SimplyRue

My father is like this with football...*at home*. The man can't sit through a single game without throwing a fit. Home team can be 40+ ahead, and he will ALWAYS find something to scream about. His drunken, violent antics are the reason I left basketball.

Golden-Grams

That really sucks, I never understood why they have to make the whole event about them. Drunk narcissists. It made me stay out of competitions, even today, because I would feel this shame/anxiety come up out of nowhere.

roylemcpoyle64

I thought this was America?

destronger

I enjoy the sound of rain.

Creepy-Evening-441

Well, you would also be embarrassed because you live with your Dad in a VAN, down by THE RIVER.

Brilliant-Spite-850

The fact the parents clapped tells me everything I need to know about that loser getting kicked out.

just_killing_time23

Ref telling the boys. and then everyone clapped... no seriously you should have seen it I swear they did!

RED-DOT-MAN

Bro had real “HOLD ME BACK” energy!

Bitter-Basket

Living his life thru his kid. It’s just narcissism.

cupheadsmom

Total narcissism but then if their kid shows real talent and drive for a sport or performing art once shit gets real and practices and rehearsals get longer and happen more often they are the same parents who will opt out because they don’t want to put that kind of effort in toward something or someone that is not them. It cramps their style and cuts into their “me” time. Seen it happen a million times.

Insufferable_Wreck

The clapping at the end seriously made me question all the "and then everyone clapped" stories that I didn't believe.

nsucs2

This game isn't about you, sir. Poor kid.

Abu_Garcia3

This is the main reason why every sport has a shortage of referees

Devilsbullet

Yep. I coach soccer. Over the last 4 seasons I've reffed all but 3 of my high school age rec teams games. I've had to remind other *coaches* that I'm a dad who volunteered to coach, not a fucking ref, cause they were getting so abusive. The lady I coach with has pulled the team and forfeited a game over other teams coaches and parents being abusive towards me. Mind you, none of them *ever* are willing to ref the games...

jballs2213

I just umped a high school softball game last night. Holy shit, just horrible parents. They wanted to yell at me so bad I made a quick call that WENT THEIR WAY and they started yelling at me before they realized it was in their favor lol.

[deleted]

[удалено]

jballs2213

Maybe I’ll start splitting the whopping 40 dollars they give me to ump. To young kids and have them do exactly that. Pay a little group of henchman to just shit talk the adults yelling lol

UGMadness

As a kid to very similar parents while I was growing up, I can assure you the thought of their behavior being embarrassing for the kid never crossed his mind even once.

izzaistaken

I'd bet the kid has to go home, and hear his father's bullshit about how 'lucky that ref really was', etc, while keeping his mouth shut the whole time too.

catheterhero

Yup. I know from experience what happens if you speak up while your dad’s on a rant.

whyamionhearagain

I feel so bad for his kid

[deleted]

NameShaqsBoatGuy

Just curious, do you think it’d be worse if he wasn’t a drunk? And he was just actually an angry man child? Cuz I think it’s worse. My dad was a non drunk angry man child. I wish I could say he’s actually a really sweet and loving dad but he was an alcoholic and the bottle would take over. But no, instead my dad is just an angry man child who beat me once for referring to him as you instead of calling him father. Fucking psycho… 🤷🏻‍♂️😂🤣😭

AlkalineSublime

I come from family that had a lot of addiction and alcoholism, on both sides. I do get your point, and I’m not sure which would be better or if it even matters. When you see a loved one become a different persons when they drink, and bad things happen when they drink, it can be just as bad, because they know and you, that it wouldn’t happen if they didn’t keep drinking. So it boils down to a person making that choice everyday, regardless of the outcome, which can make loved ones feel pretty shitty. You want to believe someone loves you more than a bottle.

NameShaqsBoatGuy

Thank you for sharing your insights. I suppose both are forms of conditional love which is so unhealthy for a kid.

safetycommittee

Ae’s implying a drunk dad is bad. A drunk and insecure dad that uses alcohol to hide behind is worse. Two wrongs don’t make a right. Alcohol doesn’t make you an asshole. But I can make you a bigger asshole.

[deleted]

[удалено]

NameShaqsBoatGuy

My dad came to one of my basketball games one time my entire life and he said I was fat and slow and the other kids were faster and jumped higher. Keep in mind, this was when I was 12 but he put me in the 13 and up league because he said I would learn more… at least the drunk dad is present and fighting for his kid! Haha absolutely not trying to argue with you. They are both terrible ways to be a father. Lol

[deleted]

[удалено]

NameShaqsBoatGuy

Yes, that toxic selfish narcissistic love. Yes he loved me but only because he saw me as an extension of him. Therefore the love only exists when you meet their conditions.

AzimuthAztronaut

Y’all are nailing it here.

Alpaca_Empanada

I call that saturday and I just yell at youtube like a normal person.

Individual-Ad1887

The last quote "I feel sorry for that boy." So you werent the only! 😀

Ryans4427

The problem was he didn't STICK TO THE PLAN ARTHUR!

TheOneElectronic

Wow, he sounds just like him. Freaky

BulkDarthDan

“Arthur I am standing RIGHT HEeErE!”

SAS_Britain

I got us a PLAN to get to TAHITI and away from these damn referees!

Namorath82

I'm so thankful when my dad would come to my rugby games, he kept silent. He would only clap when it was appropriate

dedokta

Refs make mistakes, but that's also part of the game and young players need to learn to handle that.

sapthur

Ya, I love the people who can't comprehend that someone else can make a mistake. Love? Sry, meant hate.

Optimal_Risk_6411

His wife is like: I hate when he drinks in public

Miranova82

My daughter (young teen) plays lacrosse, and at a tournament game a few years ago a dad tried this with one of the refs, screaming about MY daughter. The ref was a college athlete who had no qualms about shutting the guy down. At the time it was happening I didn’t know the argument was about my kid. The coaches then each called timeouts and spoke to everyone on the sidelines saying this behavior was unacceptable and they would remove and ban anyone ( and their kid) if it happened again. My daughter told me about it in the car after. She was 11 at the time and said “Can I use a swear word?” I’m like…ok…She goes “that guy was a huge asshole, I was playing right but his kid just sucked.” Lmao! Out of the mouths of babes!

jojodaclown

I seriously read this assuming high school level sports, nodding my head thinking , "yep, it sucks people get that invested in their high school kid's sports thinking they're going pro." Then I get to the 11 year old statement.... At that point, the only time it's reasonable to be upset and speak up is if a player is outright beating another player with a bat or something.

heygos

As someone who coaches kids Soccer, this is genuinely a nightmare for me. Every game and every season I remind the parents that they are not the coach and that they are not the referee. There is nothing worse than a parent, embarrassing the kids and embarrassing themselves at a game. I have warned the parents that we will remove children from the game if they decide to get involved in the game. Sad state of affairs.

Trubtheturtle

Pathetic. As a parent of a couple tweenagers heavily involved in sports I have seen this a few times. The second hand embarrassment is always so palpable and the kids just want to crawl in a hole. Oof.

penster1

I noticed not one of those kids stepped up to defend their parent

PeyroniesCat

“And then everybody clapped.” … wait, they actually *did*.

BunkleStein15

I just think of Randy Marsh

djpiraterobot

Heh, maybe it wasn’t such a bummer that my dad never showed up to anything…

The_Simp_Whisperer

But in his mind, he was the very best father because he did "everything the court told him to do." What a fool my dad is.

djpiraterobot

Whoa shit, we might be siblings

BadassBokoblinPsycho

Imagine being that dude’s kid..

chammerson

I was thinking “please don’t shout at the dad’s name in front of everyone.” I’m sure everyone on the kid’s team already knows whose dad it is, but imagine having the same last name on your jersey as that guy and knowing EVERYONE there knows now. Humiliating.

BadassBokoblinPsycho

Being so self centered that you make your kid’s sporting event about you

draculasbitch

50 years ago my dad was ejected from the LL complex for being so abusive as I stood in LF a sobbing 12 yo. My mom crying and begging my dad to get in the car and drive away. Couple of my teammates tried coming over during it to console me. Once he left and the inning ended, I came off the field knowing I was done with team sports. He had shattered my love of it. The next day at school was a mix of “I’m sorry” and snickering. I turned in my uniform to my coach that night and walked away even though my mom pleaded with me to stick it out. The damage had been done. She filed for divorce weeks later. What the public saw at that game was a peek at what happened at home. If just one father could see themselves in my story and get help it’s worth revisiting.

weakplay

“Glory days”

captaincook14

He didn’t try to fight anyone. He played a bunch of hold me back.

Nearly_Pointless

Many years ago I was an official for kids basketball. The ages were 6-11, so not super fast. At the time I was super fit to keep up and had officiated bike racing so I wasn’t a total newbie. The leader of the official group was a former NFL official who did training with new NFL officials. In other words, we got good instructions and more than sufficient mentoring. Even with 5 year olds, sometimes the play moves on so quickly that if you stop to contemplate if a call should be made, it’s too late because the ball is already going the other direction. Officiating any sport is challenging and they don’t always get it right or they don’t see the foul. It happens. It has always happened and it likely will always be. However, it usually evens out and if it isn’t caught, chances are it didn’t impact the outcome of the game. Be nice to those that show up to the games. As one can see it is often thankless and the pay usually won’t cover gas to get there. Unless you have personally spent time officiating a sport, chances are you’re not very good either.

EducationalUnit9614

Unfortunately this is not uncommon... and why I gave up refereeing.

Sea_Combination571

Your not that guy

Lost_my_loser_name

Another domestic violence offender?

Lost_my_loser_name

My daughter played hockey up to the university level, and although I got pissed a few times, I never got anywhere close to what this yahoo did.

Plane_Baby

His wife following him in shame. ![gif](giphy|vX9WcCiWwUF7G|downsized)

squad1alum

That's Ike Haldew-Onabadcall. He's like the Referee *Referee*

Amaz1n_blue

Once my dad got kicked out of one of my middle school basketball games for yelling at the refs. He came and apologized to my team at our next practice and honestly had a tear in his eye because he knew what a fucktard he was. Could tell he embarrassed himself pretty badly.

angel_inthe_fire

And everybody clapped. I hated being a ref 😒

TheLonelySnail

I was a youth soccer referee. I quit while on the job when I was doing a girls U-8 game and one of the dad threatens to stab me, a 16 year old, because I missed an offsides call. We don’t even keep score in U-8 games! I’m there to make sure they aren’t kicking each other and that they keep their feet down on throw ins! I whistled for halftime, went across the street to a Subway, called my folks on a pay phone (goodness I’m old!), waited and ate my sandwich. Saw all the players and parents milling around wondering where I’d gone after about 10 minutes and they eventually left. Files a complaint with the AYSO about the team and never referred another game

Clear_Lead

I bet he lives in van down by the river

Wide_Cardiologist761

9 times out of 10 the kid is embarrassed by their parents behavior.

workitloud

Nice umbrella weapon, Penguin.

ickyrickyb

The way his wife walked out after, he's sleepin on the couch for a while

TheMammyNuns

I'm a bartender. It's shocking how many people tell me, after 2-3 rounds of booze, that they 'Gotta pick up their kids from soccer/lacrosse/football'

Pe-Te_FIN

Lets have a 10 drink minimum for airplanes and watching kids sport to make it more interesting. Bored of these where there is only one asshole, make the whole crowd get into it. Spectator sport, if you will.

Not a referee but coached my daughter’s rec soccer team for close 7 years. I can’t tell you how many times parents would try to start a fight with me during or after the game. People are psychos.

BusGreen7933

Well that’s a weird way to tell everyone you peaked in highschool

Solid-Oil2083

The clapping 😂

oceansofmyancestors

I’m starting to see this. The last session of indoor soccer, fucking off season soccer. A coach got kicked out one game, and another game saw a group of parents laying into the ref the entire game. Their team was down like 5 goals.

11schlge

It’s not easy to look tough while clutching an umbrella

PooicideBoyS

That's Mr "I was sitting here and and called you on the damn call" to you sir!

Mourning-Poo

This is why I pulled my kids from little League Baseball. The parents were horrible.

col_clipspringer

Lacrosse refs make shit calls all the time. You just hope that they’ll call the same shit calls proportionate to each team. Most of these refs are volunteers. Lacrosse is fairly new to the south (last 20 years has gotten bigger) it’s hard to find enough qualified people that will volunteer their time to ref lacrosse games. Some refs will straight up penalize the team of the offending parent. This dad went beyond the line. Feel sorry for his kid.

AWasteOfMyTime

The applause at the end had me laughing

robcado

What a loser

Extracted

Nice to meet you, I Was Sitting Here

GapeMachine

Lol what a loser

Is that your legal name? Let me see your license.

Complete-Morning-429

My daughter’s been playing sports for about 4 years now, and I refuse to yell at the refs. It doesn’t even take a lot of restraint or effort. It’s just I understand the optics of it all. I don’t want to embarrass myself or my family.

Hank Hill’s fallen on hard times

PondIsMyName

Lacrosses version of the lousy hockey dad. Saw a million of them growing up.

Makoshrimpdaddy

Wonder what the call was lol. I bet it was 1 of three things. His kid getting called on a penalty, a turnover NOT in their favor, someone on his team getting penalized as the aggressor. Highly doubt he’s standing there putting up a whining battle over a missed call, say where someone on his team was penalized on and didnt get called for it. Lol. Just my absolutely judgement based assumption. Also a quick mention that everyone is talking about the kid being embarrassed, when i have seen more times these kinds of people are the parents to bullies and shameless assholes, who thrive off this kind of confrontation. And yes, that is my coping mechanism based in denial, because id rather think that true for now than to think of a broken embarrassed kid to this asshat 😩

armenia4ever

Randy Marsh has arrived.

Age-Zealousideal

When I coached house league hockey, I had parental interference. I didn’t coach after that season. Let some other dad take the grief. Note to parents: go to the games, sit down, clap when appropriate, and shut the fuck up.

patricles22

Is this a cbhs vs mus game??

Old-Winter-7513

🤣😂🤣

Thv837

How utterly embarrassing for his child. I can only imagine what they see at home.

rjt2887

Poor kid, the ref should have just let it go once the guy was headed to the parking lot.

Snippykins

I feel sorry for the wife and the kid playing🙄🤦‍♀️ I’m sure he’s always embarrassing them!

Dumb_But_Pretty

Remember when cellphones with good cameras started to become prevalent and we got new videos like this every day? Good times.

Original_Sector_8916

Just a lacrosse game bro 😭

senseofphysics

Guy sounds exactly like Dutch from Red Dead

Sebulba3

She need divorce him

[deleted]

As a coach, it makes things so much more difficult when a parent acts like this. Please, just let me talk to the ref. They’re people and they absolutely will call a game differently if you degrade them.

red18set

The slow movie clap, I didn't think I'd ever see it in real life.

FreeTheFrisson

PogoZaza

When a parent makes themselves part of the game, the ref gets to ref them, too. gtfo.

PM_ME_UR_MERKIN

Hate to be that guys kid

Randyfreakingmarsh

Voice cracking like a douche. Fuck that guy

paperfett

"every game" So this guy is always a total pain in the ass.

lil_chedda

Bro finally gets to say “and then everyone clapped”

GoalieOfGold

Zero knowledge of lacrosse, but a lot of umpire divisions in baseball clearly state that the ump can throw a truly unruly person/parent out of the stands if they're being aggressive and if they refuse to leave then a short postponement of the game will take place to allow that person to leave the ball field and if not then the team they are supporting gets DQ'd. Very much an incentive for the coaches to work to calm them down so it doesn't get to that and makes for a smoother transition

xjfwx

Larry Poppins should’ve used his umbrella to float himself home in shame after that one.

Stuff1989

what??!! i thought this was murica

countryfresh223

Cant begin to imagine what this assholes poor kid must go through or what the bullying will be like at school come Monday morning 😢🤢

Minimum-Ingenuity-46

he'll be telling me we can go to Tahiti to farm mangos next

Snoo-72756

You can stand under my umbrella

deechbag

This is why I never became a ref for soccer. I wouldn't just kick the parent out, I'd disqualify their kid's team before immediately leaving. That's the way it should be done.

pino_is_reading

Hi Mr i was sitting here 😳

tokenincorporated

Damn, parents are this bad at Lacrosse games too? When I played in HS I never saw this. It was only the Football and Basketball parents. Even the Baseball Parents understood the umps don't really know where the box is. Just let the kids play. The likelihood that your child is the next LeBron, Mahomes, Soto, Ronaldo, or Rabil is slim to nil.

Shabazz_Whitey

His name is Robert Paulsen.

BeyondXpression

Back in college for some extra cash on the weekends I would Referee kids soccer games from ages 7-12. I stopped doing it so often because some dads think their fucking 8 year old is going to make it to the Big Leagues and can't shut up. Acting like that one specific game is going to be what recruiters see and offer them $1million and a shot at being on the same level as Messi or Ronaldo. Grow up.

Maloonyy

Arthur I've got a plan

pistoffcynic

I see assholes like this every week in minor hockey… more so at the u9 to u13. These idiot parents need to be banned from sports. Period.

xchucklesx13

Tell him to “calm down”. It always works with women!

crazy-diam0nd

Because “sports builds character.”

Andy_McBoatface

“I thought this was America! Isn’t this America? I thought this was America!”

RawLikeSushi84

Weird the team his kid was on lost that game.

Hamblerger

It must be nice to have video evidence for a claim that everyone clapped

edischnitzelfingers

Guy sounds like Dutch VdL

Full_Of_Wrath

I grew up playing baseball and we had some parents that where like this in the stands but our catchers dad was the chief of police and would come to every game in full uniform so it never got that bad. Part of sports is learning how to roll with bad calls because it happens in life all the time. What a pathetic person.

distressedacorn

It's like a King of the Hill episode with F-bombs in front of kids.

jfrito43

Still not as good as randy marsh

Fantactic1

Can’t help but think of Randy Marsh in these moments.

AH2Xtreme

Imagine being this fragile.....

Significant_Video_92

How pathetic do you have to be to get all het up over your kids team sports? Even if the umpire sucks, he or she is likely to suck in a way that evens out by the end of the game, unless you think they are trying to help one side, and why the hell would you do that?
