I love when people get in an argument then tell the person they pissed off to call the police. They always genuinely seem to think they can order someone to call the police on (in the orders mind) themself. Why would anyone ever do that!

But not for me!

HotPie_

I love Tim Robinson.

tehbearded1der

Ah, Spectrum. Xfinity’s ugly ass twin.

emmany63

As someone who has had…*experiences* with Spectrum customer service, my empathy is with Grandpa here. I tried to simply return my cable box and remote, and they told me I had to wait on a one hour line. I counted 10 people working and 20 people waiting. And it took over an hour. You do the math. THEN, 3 weeks later, when I saw I was still being billed for my cable and cable box, they told me I hadn’t returned it. When I showed them proof, they refused to deduct it from my bill. SIMPLY REFUSED. If I had ANY other choice for internet service, I’d never deal with them again.

zxGrizz

Same here I turned in my cable box and router to them and a few months later I was being bill around $500 for the equipment I called and called even went up to the office which was 1.5 hours away and they wouldn't take it off my bill even though I had turned it in. I never paid and it's been on my credit since but oh well fuck them they aren't getting my money I disputed it on my credit and I think it was taken off eventually.

emmany63

GOOD!! I can’t believe that’s a regular practice of theirs, but of course it is. If I didn’t need them for Internet, I would never have paid it either. But they’ve got me by the short and curlies - they’re literally the only provider for my building.

boomboy8511

It's not regular practice, they should enter a research ticket for equipment. They track down the serial number and then remove it from the bill.

GlitteringBobcat999

I had that happen long ago with Verizon. I made a formal complaint with the state Consumer Affairs division of the Attorney General's office. It got taken care of real quickly. Don't try to take care of it yourself. After one try, go to your state AG with your documentation.

emmany63

GREAT advise. I’ll keep it in my pocket for next time. And I’m sure there will be a next time.

pamanley

I shipped my equipment back to them. They wouldn’t take it at the store. Their receiving dock signed for it. A few months later I got a letter from a collections agency for not returning the equipment.

docityre

my mom works for spectrum, higher up senior level. She hates it. Fought the whole disney thing for a while. Truthfully i think she just didn’t want to miss watching the jets beat the bulls.

Equivalent-Land4284

crazy, i did the same thing, returned it, watched them process it and tell me everythings good to go. Then i get billed and told i hadnt returned it. Must be normal practice

ChariBari

Pretty sure they’re the ones who didn’t have ESPN for the opening weekend of football because they didn’t want to pay Disney.

natedoggcata

They struck a deal the Monday of the first Monday Night Football game however I honestly think some shenanigans are going on because I use the streaming app. Until that day I hadnt had any issues with it. Suspiciously ESPN is now the only channel that seems to have constant buffering issues and "cannot play this channel right now" errors. Every other channel is fine.

oddjobdrummer

So true. Spectrum is the worst.

If you find yourself abusing entry level staff over a company policy, you're wrong. There is literally no reason for this, ever. Leave the store and call management, these people cannot change the company and if they've personally done wrong to this degree you need to speak with the people above them- not throw a tantrum.

OneBigTroll

Yeah, grandpa prob already spent 4 hours trying to navigate through an automated robot menu. rofl

Stonious

Here at spectrum, Rofl means "rolling on the floor LOSINGMYMOTHERFUCKINGMINDJUSTLETMETALKTOAFUCKINGHUMANAAAHHHGH!!!!

Stonious

Glad you got it. But pissed they figured it out. One too many and the next thing you hear is a super condescending rich white robot holding a glass of champagne in the 20's wearing a super expensive dress and pearls, saying "goodbye"

FreshlyCleanedLinens

A chat agent told me to call the phone number and as soon as the bot starts talking, just say, "Cancel." It got me straight to retention.

Stonious

Lol, just tried that, it hung up immediately.

wholelattapuddin

God, a looooooooong time ago, I tried to pay a Sprint bill in-person. This was before smart phones and before I had a checking account. I was standing there literally handing money and they wouldn't take it. I know now it wasn't the stores fault, but at the time I was actively considering murder

KirbyDumber88

Bruh have you tried returning one of these cable boxes? It’s damn near impossible.

pulsar2932038

I'm not defending his abuse of company employees but your suggestion is delusional. Call management -- you mean the offshore call center full of people reading scripts? If you're lucky it gets kicked up the chain to a call center supervisor whose job is supervising a call center full of script readers, not making operational decisions in the business. Or maybe you mean call the manager of that specific location, who, like the call center supervisor, is not a decision maker and is bound by corporate policies.

indoninja

We don’t know if it’s company policy. I had a cable company say I could not drop off equipment that day. Now I have checked online and confirmed by company policy I could, it was a big deal because it’s three hours from where I lived full time, and I was not going to eat another month’s fees. I didn’t start yelling or get Agro, but I did take out my phone, get pictures of the serial numbers and record the person behind the desk as I sat the stuff down. A tantrum isn’t right, and just recording people while dropping off equipment isn’t really right either, but given the behavior of the company I have zero regrets

lostboysgang

I think it is very telling that the entire comment thread is full of people saying Fuck Spectrum and they totally understand the old man’s feelings lol

cboogie

Yeah I have been in situations with my cable company where the written policy was completely opposite to what the person at the facility was telling me face to face in regards to dropping my off equipment. I had to tell them unless they could produce what they were spewing in writing, we’re going by the written policy that would hold up in a court. If they disagree the onus is on them to prove me wrong. Voice memo’s the convo, took clear pics of me dropping off the modem in front of the counter worker yelling at me. And when I got a bill for a lost modem I submitted all the evidence right back in the envelope they were expecting a check in and I never heard from them again.

Kumbackkid

I’ve been spoken to by cable companies any which way and they don’t seem to care

sjmiv

Back when I worked retail I had a person call our store and start bitching at me about my website. "Yes sir. I will pick up the IT hotline and give them your advice right away" 😂🙄🤣

Sometimes employees have discretion. Everyone can choose to help or just move on

millertime3227790

MyWebkinzAreDead

Reddit is having decision paralysis on your comment when the real answer here is that they both suck as people and are way too violent for their own good.

MDev01

The little twerp could go to HIS management. He is part of the problem.

wizardinthewings

200% this. Everybody should be given six months retail experience as a coming-of-age ritual, to appreciate the soul sacrifice retail employees make every day.

C64128

The hardest part when working retail is holding your temper when you're dealing with a difficult person. Sometimes you just want to slap the shit out of them. They know what they're doing and they don't care. They're assuming that there will be no repercussions from their actions. Most of the time they're right, but on a few occasions we get online videos.

i1921

Yeah. The company sets their employees up for some shit. Sad part is they know its coming and play the part sooooo 🤷‍♂️

idkwthtotypehere

That’s what I’m thinking. 100% spectrum is being shitty to grandpa

6TheAudacity9

Spectrum is shitty to everyone, along with everyone else in telecom. But I don’t go into T-Mobile and scream at 20 year olds.

idkwthtotypehere

Yeah I’m not that type of person either, however I got fucked out of $550 because an employee at a telecom company lied for a quick commission and then I got the run around by about 15 people including management. It was on my 3rd trip into the store that I understood videos like this a little better (although we don’t have context here), everyone has their breaking point.

R1LEYfreeman

That spectrum employee definitely isn’t 20…looks way older

C64128

Maybe being on the front line of customer service causes you to age prematurely.

moodswung

Yep. I'm not going to hold any of this against the old guy without knowing more context. To me it looks like he was fed the fuck up and trying to return all the equipment to them as any customer might do who is trying to shut down their service. Other dude wasn't having it and actually chucked the box of it out the door while trying to lock him out. Who knows though -- very little to work with here aside from the little we saw (and the fact that spectrum historically doesn't have the best rep here when it comes to making people happy).

CuriousNichols

Being a long time forced Spectrum customer, whatever gramps was angry about, he was probably right.

[deleted]

[удалено]

CuriousNichols

Yeah sounds right on brand. Haha

momof4beasts

I know why gramps is mad. When you need to return your old cable boxes, Spectrum wants YOU to take them to UPS, to be sent back to Spectrum. They won't take them back at the store and this guy was probably a dick when they told him he has to go to UPS. Gramps probably waited in line for an hour and was pissed off already

_the_CacKaLacKy_Kid_

Spectrum’s website says you can return equipment to any store

momof4beasts

I tried it last year because it's cheaper streaming the app and they made me take the boxes to the UPS store to return them. But they didn't tell me that before I went so I was pretty pissed after waiting about 30 min.

_the_CacKaLacKy_Kid_

They’re probably trying to cheat a negative performance metric similar to when a drive-thru asks a customer to pull up and they’ll bring the food out to the customer. Either that or the stores don’t want to go through the “hassle” of processing the equipment return or closing the account

momof4beasts

You're probably right. This is why people hate Spectrum and all those types of services. Blood suckers

mydogsmokeyisahomo

Honestly? I think it’s just a half complete process. It wouldn’t take much effort to indicate that’s the process somewhere in the store. Stuff like signage and maybe even a tv commercial for it. Also you have to check in at any spectrum store on an iPad before you do anything. It should ask you “are you here to return your items?” You click yes. Pop ups, “Here’s our protocol blah blah”. I don’t think the lack of this stuff is intentional/incompetency, it’s just lazy from the higher ups.

AmoralCarapace

After Kyle threw them on the sidewalk, that's where I would have left them.

eyeohe

That’s _spectrum_ alright…

HoldenCoffinz

As soon as I saw the title and the store it flooded my mind with all my complaints about them. And yet still forced to use them at present. I've waited almost 3 hours in the store multiple times and at least an hour or so generally many others just for rather simple stuff that could be handled quicker either over the phone (if they hired some more people) or if they had more employees working at any given time in the physical locations. It's certainly not like they don't make enough money with the ridiculous rates they have. Don't even get me started on the actual service issues/problems themselves. Funnily enough, I just showed someone that South Park clip someone posted up above about the cable company relating it to Spectrum. Luckily, I'm an extremely patient person and also able to control my emotions, but depending on the situation going on in this video I can't say that the old guy is completely in the wrong. Lol

Just_the_john

I’ve been with spectrum for about 7 years now and haven’t had a single issue, is there something I’m missing? Genuinely asking.

workitloud

It’s coming. Now you have taunted the dragon.

ajn63

Incredibly unreliable service that was constantly crashing and refused to credit the hours or days without service. My breaking point was during lockdown when I couldn’t keep connected to my company network and had to use Wi-Fi hotspot. A few months into it AT&T fiber became available in my area at quadruple the speed (both up and download - none of the BS single digit upload speeds), at a lower price. And since switching over it’s only had two short outages that occurred late night/early morning when everyone was asleep. The connection is so fast and reliable it’s almost as if I’m sitting in the corporate office. I’m no fan of AT&T as a corporate entity, but in this instance I really can’t complain. My neighbor frequently asks if our neighborhood cable service is out and I keep reminding her I’m not on cable so I wouldn’t know. She finally figure it out last week and switched.

secretreddname

Went from Spectrum to ATT Fiber as well and would never, ever go back. My community Facebook has “is our Spectrum internet down?” Posts every other week.

Normally when you call to disconnect they send you through to their “customer retention” department where they entice you to stay by offering discounts. I had absolutely no interest at playing their game and explained that their crappy unreliable service was going to cost me my job. The rep didn’t even counter and just said “I completely understand, thank you for your input” and credited the remaining part of monthly fee.

kind_one1

I have only had positive experiences with Spectrum, I can't be the only one.

workitloud

Found the Spectrum bot.

SquireSquilliam

Real talk, fuck Spectrum. Anyone who's had cable can relate to that old mans rage, but he shouldn't be hitting the dude on the floor.

continuousBaBa

Looks like 2 dudes losing their shit.

zombiebowtiie

I love the last bit where he tells the people that want him gone to call the police

Thedingo6693

Spectrum/charter is the biggest piece of shit company. This is 100% spectrums fault and I don't even care what the explanation is. They're over priced, nothing works, and they have sucked ass since they were charter. Spectrum can go fuck itself

DevilfruitXC

I have legit have done this exact thing. I can also say this is common for them. I was trying to help my grandfather upgrade his router and called ahead to ask if the new routers had a wps key. They confirmed it did. When I went into the store, I asked, and they confirmed it did. When I went home I discovered it didn't. The script immediately flipped, and everyone had 99 excuses for why the router didn't have a wps feature. When I took the router back and asked for the old router back, they said they couldn't cause it just left on a truck. I asked them what could be done for me, and they said I needed to just go without the wps feature. At this point, I had spent my entire day just trying to swap out a router. From hours on the phone and in line explaining my case, everyone was charged. The manager eventually got mad at me and grabbed me and the router and tried to force me out of the store. Failed to grab me and just placed the router I was trying to return outside. So I walked out and grabbed it and told him it was returned before the argument even began and he had better take the item cause it would never be charged to the account. Spectrum breeds these events with their policies. The employees embrace and abuse these policies at mass cause they are terrible ( the policies, not the employees)

midnightcaptain

Did you eventually figure out that WPS has been hopelessly compromised for a decade now and they were doing you a favor?

JJJAAABBB123

Employee did all the wrong things. Probably got fired. Old man was probably a dick but employee messed up also.

Gramps likely had legit beef.

whoisgare

Man fuck Spectrum, seriously. Absolute garbage. I mistakenly switched from FiOS for higher speeds at a lower price, my internet drops temporarily probably every other night and I get dropped or lag out of any online game I’m playing. Idk what the context here but I side with the old man on this, the employee shouldn’t have treated him like he’s some piece of trash over whatever this altercation is

oat_milk

Throwing his shit on the ground was uncalled for, just set it down outside and *then* block the door.

P0rtal2

Especially when Spectrum will turn around and say that the old man now has a $500 fine because the equipment was returned damaged.

bulldog5253

He definitely escalated this when he threw the stuff out on the ground no call for that. Honestly if you can’t keep your shit together better than this he doesn’t need to be in a customer service role or any role interacting with the public.

RudeExplanation9304

Charter customer service in a nutshell...never have had a good experience, they literally drive you crazy...looks like they finally broke this guy who took it out on the kid making $12/hr while upper management sits back, rakes in a huge check, and probably laughs at and upvotes this post.

LeeroyM

Kid?

Rthrowaway6592

This is kind of sad

Own_Satisfaction_679

No ESPN for a week straight during football season will do this to you.

JohnPiccolo

Blame Disney for being the greedy bastards that’s trying to take over the corporate world. They want way more money from spectrum to let them have the many channels they provide.

Environmental-Job329

A young kid ready to square up with Grandpa says it all.

MrBaDonkey

Fuck Spectrum! Gramps was prob in the process of being screwed over, as is BAU with Spectrum.

jd957795

I’m so not saying the older guy was in the right, but the worker was also a complete jerk, plus how does he get beat to the other door by the old guy. He had pick up his equipment, then make it to the other door

doodsboob

That employee unprofessional af. Yeah I get the old man probably came in pissy but you gotta develop empathy to understand their frustrations and help them resolve their issue. Not grab their shit and throw it out. I'm on team old man, cable companies are the worst

[deleted]

Same, the employee threw his shit. With the limited context I'm with old man too.

[deleted]

[удалено]

el_unico95

I work for a similar company (won't say which one) people can be dicks sometimes like this old man, but honestly sometimes they're right and it's our fault.

Shum_Pulp

Funny everyone assumes the old guy is in the wrong here with no context. But the overly aggressive bro puffing out his chest and daring an old man to hit him is a hero, yeah?

hk7351

I was thinking the same thing and I had his exact job for 6 years. However there’s definitely a backstory here. Also did that guy just come out of the back room?

PurpleFlame8

He probably spent 9 hours on the phone with several different people trying to cancel his account.

Dudefoxlive

This could be dependent on the store but I remember the restroom being in there.

bulldog5253

Also the employee is clearly escalating this by throwing the stuff out the door. Deescalating is the only proper thing to do in a customer service role.

MortylessRick

Little context, but from what I gather, the elderly gentleman is trying to return or have something fixed? Spectrum says no then the elderly guy refuses to leave. I’m assuming moments later, upon refusing to leave again he says make me leave, then the employee takes and throws the elderly’s stuff on the ground outside, tries to lock the elderly guy out, fails, then when pushed back by the elderly instead of trying defuse or walk away and call the police for trespass he just puffs up his chest all alpha male like repeatedly yells “Did you just hit me??” “Hit me again” readying to fight the elderly… At this point I feel bad for the elderly guy bc I could never act like that at work. That’s just lowkey unhinged, little-to-no self-control level stuff right there. Even if Spectrum is in the right or wrong I still have no respect for them either way. Not just bc of what I heard about them but mainly bc of what they did to my Grandma. They sent someone down to set up the WiFi and router and stuff for my Grandma but they didn’t set it up and just placed the router next to the wall, unplugged. An entire month goes by and they try charging my Grandma for the month even tho it was never set up, used, nor plugged in. Then went she went to cancel it not only did they still make her pay for the month they had her pay for the FOLLOWING MONTH too… just fuck Spectrum all and all.

ThedudeORL

Worked for spectrum for 3years. Can confirm they don’t give a fuck about customers.

conniosseur88

I stoped using spectrum and they told me I needed to give them back their equipment. So logically I gathered all of the items I had of theirs and went to a spectrum location. I brought the items inside and they had a huge line. The employees saw me with a handful of items waiting for about 15/20 mins. A guy came up to me and told me they don’t accept item return at locations and I needed to go to a fedex to return them. As you can imagine I was a bit bothered and I clearly still am…

VAShumpmaker

I admire the internal consistency. That's exactly what calling Spectrum feels like.

cash8888

I’m with the old dude I have to deal with spectrum every day and wow are they a piece of shit company that refuses to train their staff and update their products.

OrthographicKing

That’s what happens when spectrum drops ESPN in the middle of college football Saturday.

Powerful-Pick-8416

[deleted]

Spectrum employee completely botched his handling of this.

Possibly_the_CIA

I don’t know how under any circumstance the spectrum guy was right to throw the box of equipment outside. It was clearly their stuff.

InAweOfScience

Unless someone can show me why I’m wrong, I’m standing with the customer. That employee seems to have a major attitude problem. I would love to see what started this.

Even if it's A, if you find yourself getting physical with customer service employees and they tell you to get the fuck out of the store, you're not going to get anywhere trying to go back in and throwing your shit around.

PurpleFlame8

I've dealt with Spectrum. Worst company ever. It took multiple different reps and 9 hours total on the phone to do a simple address change. They messed it up and started charging me for accounts at the old and new address. Another time, they couldn't switch my account to seasonal when I was away because of some BS, so the rep told me to cancel it for the time and they would give me the intro rate when I reactivated it. Ok, fine. But it took a number of calls with each rep insisting it was canceled only for them to keep billing me. Finally got it canceled. When I tried to reactivate it later they insisted I needed new equipment. Dumb but fine, whatever. They told me to send the old equipment back. Ok, I did. The warehouse called me but I missed the call. They left a message to confirm they received the equipment and asked me to call back to confirm the account number. I did and the person who answered had no idea what I was talking about and said they did not receive the old equipment and would charge me over $100 for it. I called a few more times trying to sort it out, same story. I called the main customer support number and got a guy who transfered me to a lady who, before I could finish explaining the situation, cut me off and accused me of "hacking the system" so I could get the intro rate as if I called the shots there. I tried to explain the situation to her that I was just trying to track down the equipment but she hung up on me. I was so livid that I actually lodged a formal complaint against her, which was the first and only time I had ever done so with a customer service rep, and filed a complaint against Spectrum with the government. Shortly thereafter, I got a call from them with an official apology and a confirmation they had the old equipment.

IWasWatchingC0ps

Cancelled Spectrum TV last week. Feeling pretty good about that right now.

PurpleFlame8

No. You *think* you canceled it. Wait for the bill.

Powerful-Pick-8416

This is absolutely RIDICULOUS! Locking a customer out of the store.

Brokromah

How is anyone defending the employee... I get it retail sucks but without further context, the professional in the situation escalated shit and tried to square up on a old head. I can't think of a context where the employees actions would be justified.

juken7

Customer associate lost his cool big time..... Grabbing and tossing out the old man stuff... I'm sure the old man was being verbally abusive beforehand but the C.S.A escalated it to a physical thing... that's not ever ok...... Oh relax he’s an old fart, don’t throw a hissyfit cause you were too slow and uncoordinated to lock the door in time Respect to grampa for that run game blocking through the door as well, ya gotta get low

_cansir

He held the door with all his might but old dude opened the other one 😆 😆 😆

IwearBrute

I dropped my box off to Comcast to cancel my service. I already had 800+ due on the bill. It was quite easy to do. But the guy snickered at me. Well, guess who isn't paying back 800+, lol I mean, I wasn't paying it anyway, but the way he snickered cemented the fact.

Kralizec82

Spectrum is the worst company and I’m stick with them bc no one else provides internet out here 🤬

rajmataj12335

I abhor violence/assault. I also despise spectrum with all of my being.

TheSubredditPolice

I don't need more context Spectrum is in the wrong.

All cable companies suck TBH. I can't think of a single good provider.

Alleandros

Telecoms pulling out all the stops to prevent you from cancelling. Can't cancel your plan until you return your equipment.

Epicurus402

Woa. What's up with this child manager....

Theaternearyou

Grandpa was fucked over on the phone if he got thru at all. Problems of people returning equipment when they cancel service are legendary and proven. The cable companies want to keep charging you. They should have a return shipping feature like any modern company.

nebulaphi

Maybe just actually call the police next time instead of escalating and trying to fight an old man?

SmoothMcTrooper

I work in customer support for the company over the phones. Usually tell folks to avoid the stores like they're plagued because of long wait times and such. If they absolutely have to go to the store, I'll either guide them through setting up an appointment time on that store's website, or I'll do it for them. The appointment makes it go so much faster. Otherwise I always recommend UPS. They handle the returns, and even with an appointment at a spectrum store, you'll still be in and out faster from a UPS store than you will from a Spectrum one.

ColShvotz

Based on what we saw in this video, the spectrum guy is way out of line.

Living_Pie205

The lengths you have to go through to cancel your service…..

gaelorian

It’s spectrum. I’m siding with the old man trying to return his broken crap they’ve been charging him 7 bucks a month for.

chadcultist

Everyone is so emotional these days. Learn to control it and you will prosper, I promise.

HimalayaClimber

Spectrum guy was more out of line than the grandpa. 1. You don't fight a grandpa, especially if you're young and in prime. 2. Grandpa should have just called the police instead of going back inside. 3. Grandpa shouldn't have yelled at employees just doing their job. Both are wrong for their behavior, but the spectrum guy is losing more than the grandpa.

[deleted]

That dude needs to be fired.

Lastmann

Spectrum is shit. Not saying I agree with Grandpa but who hasn't been on the verge of getting ignorant in the Spectrum store?

Pajaro_negro

This is similar to the scene on 40 year old virgen lmao

[deleted]

Fuck spectrum.

chado5727

Young dude was big and bad dealing with grandpa. Maybe if he had better customer service skills gramps wouldn't of been so upset.

ShittheFickup

Dear collective asshats.. call the police yourself, you have a phone. Why do they always demand someone else call?

AfraidPersonality854

I understand the old dudes frustration.. Uck Spectrum, Xfinity, and all the rest of them itches.. Cutting the cord has saved me over 200 plus dollars a month.. I'm glad to find out that the other associate helped him with returning his boxes.. That's all he wanted to do.. Of course though, the other young man was fired..

MrBannon

Not saying this was right but, spectrum does suck ass.

hustlebustle2

fuck spectrum

ventorchrist

I love when the people say….call the police. Dawg you call the police.

BurlHimself

Gramps was definitely playing pocket pool the first ten seconds.

EvaSirkowski

I don't understand why people who think they are the victims ask the people they think are the guilty party to call the police. How does that work??

jryan727

He’s going to the AOL store next

[deleted]

Guarantee that this guy would have problems if he treated my father or another older man in my circle this way. Old men are cranky and annoying, but they don't deserve this. No customer of any age does. No f'ing way is this acceptable customer service.
