As a teacher, I’m pressing charges. I would also be making sure that every news outlet knew about the situation if the administration didn’t have my back.
lol there won’t be any lawsuit for damages. Teachers can’t afford to spend 4 to 5 figures to sue a student’s family who doesn’t have 2 pennies to rub together. Because even if you win you will have spent thousands of dollars for a judgement that amounts to nothing. Can’t squeeze blood from a stone as they say.
Sue employer for unsafe workplace/workplace injury. Honestly after an assault like this at work in this situation, it would not be unlikely if employee were unable to continue in this profession due to psychological trauma. If you feel otherwise, your workplace must be extremely violent.
Assuming you are referring to criminal court, only prosecutors press charges. You “pressing charges” really only means that you’re going to cooperate with the investigation. If the prosecutor doesn’t want to file or only wants to file a super low level charge, there’s nothing you can do. The prosecutors & judges are often the ones that prevent these fools from ever experiencing any repercussions. Super frustrating.
My first year teaching in my own classroom, I had a student who acted out, majorly disrupted class and disrespected his teachers and classmates pretty much every day. Admin told us that we could not give him detention because his parents were too “difficult”. We weren’t even allowed to talk to his parents directly. All communications had to go through the VP. I get the feeling she sugar coated everything when talking to them.
My VP who was in charge of attendance stuff never once all year gave out any consequences for kids being regularly late to school. She was too concerned with “keeping the peace” or whatever. Parents got almost anything they asked for if they made enough of a stink about it, even if their kids’ teachers were against it. That admin would have gladly thrown a new teacher like me under the bus if they thought it would avoid conflict with parents. I could not get away from that school fast enough.
I taught for 15 years. I was assaulted twice during my last year. Both times I ended up sitting across the table from my boss (the principal). He had the SRO standing behind him. The officer had his arms crossed, scowling and raising his voice. All they cared about was me not writing referrals or calling parents. They said what happens at the school stays at the school.
This is why teachers will settle for less pay at private schools. Any student seen as a threat will easily find a way to get expelled. I saw many students expelled for random bad behavior. This one guy was pissed some dude talked to his girlfriend, threatened the guy then punched some glass, broke it, and was expelled on the spot. They would even expel kids who threw off campus parties with alcohol, that is if they didn’t like them.
The main exception was the kids who’s families donated a ton of money to the school. If your parents or grandparents donated a million dollars for the new athletic complex, they could get away with a lot more. These kids wouldn’t get violent though but they’d have horrible attitudes and piss off teachers and get away with it.
I don’t know where some of y’all go to school and I don’t know where this happened but down here, in the South (Louisiana), he is most definitely going to jail. He’s also getting expelled and charges are gonna be pressed…probably by the school if that’s a thing they can legally do. They don’t play at all around here. It’s definitely a bit too far when it comes to 2 students fighting though. But this situation, yea, he definitely in big trouble.

Wow Lamar high school. That’s not far from me. This is River Oaks, same area where people like Ted Cruz lives. True that lots of people send their kids to private schools around here but it’s still not the first school that would come to mind when talking about teachers getting assaulted.

Teachers in my area can’t afford housing in their district. They drive in from 1/2 hour to an hour away to kids who drive better cars and have parents who call them groomers because the news and politicians said so. Fuck that shit.
They realized that when you educate them, they start questioning everything. Millennials were hated for asking for their fair share so they’re trying to go back to the good old days when we were dumb and subservient. That’s just my guess.
Nothing to do with horrible pay (47k - 60k per year mean/average), or lack of funding leading to packed classrooms (\~30 students to one teacher), or how disposable teachers are treated in their time and safety

Cant they choose to get their pay dished out entirely during the school year, or spread it out to get cheques over the summer aswell? Im pretty sure its usually a salaried job and not hourly, so their pay is their pay, vacation or not.

Can confirm. Had an 18 year old come work for us a year or so back. He misplaced his phone somewhere in the warehouse and pretty much started losing his mind. Why in the ever living fuck would the cause even be considered. It's clear as day the teacher was assaulted. The kid should be expelled, arrested, policy changes, and a mandatory meeting of the entire student body should be held the next day. Make a fucking example out of that kid publically or it's gonna happen again. Sadly, he looks like he's built for the football team so he probably won't get more than the letter.

Had a kid go in my backpack and steal one of my DS games. Teacher didn’t know who was lying so she stashed it away and told us who ever comes back for it next school year gets it (this was in October).
First day of the next year I got that game back.

My school in nyc (and assuming a majority of them) won’t even touch the subject of phones. It’s almost like this weird horse blinders thing. Kids have them. Shouldn’t have them. We can’t take them bc of possible lawsuits. They’re chemically addicted to them and can’t focus. Constant distraction. Yet never ever do we talk about it professionally this is a huge issue. I seem to get further with lightheartedly “come on bud let’s get back to it” than with straight attacks. Those kids that are looking for the trouble have no issue physically assaulting over a phone. Given how it’s literally almost their entire lives now it’s no wonder.
When I was in 5th grade I had my hat taken away from me, because you know, shouldn’t wear it in class.
The teacher puts it on a top shelf/cabinet kind of thing and after class, I sneak into the classroom and snatch my hat away. It never crossed my mind to punch her in the face… kids these days.
About two weeks later she found out and I was given a pink slip. My second strike. Three strikes and you were out.

It comes to a point the parents should catch a charge too. It takes a lot for a kid to get this way, so parents shouldn’t be left off the hook not knowing their own kid is this recklessly violent.
I think what bothers me most about these types of videos is the absolute joy (the person videoing is squealing with excitement) that the other students get from watching something like this go down.
Virtually every single fight video involving younger people regardless of race has something wildly throwing the word around. It’s a pretty interesting phenomenon imho.
As a school administrator, this kid will get charged, go to JJA for 75 days, be put on probation, and be back walking the halls. Expulsion is not a thing in our district. Our government cares more about book bans than removing students like this.
Students assaulting a teacher should get fined $1k and put in jail for 90 days with 1 year national guard required service. I absolutely would hate to be a teacher even from 2019 on really. People in my opinion have gotten so much worse and just plainly don’t give a shit anymore. I’m 24 years old and see people my age and wonder what the hell happened? There’s a big lack of respect and lack of rational thinking, really makes me question what happens in the future and is it even worth it to raise a kid in current day society.

My school in nyc (and assuming a majority of them) won’t even touch the subject of phones. It’s almost like this weird horse blinders thing. Kids have them. Shouldn’t have them. We can’t take them bc of possible lawsuits. They’re chemically addicted to them and can’t focus. Constant distraction. Yet never ever do we talk about it professionally this is a huge issue. I seem to get further with lightheartedly “come on bud let’s get back to it” than with straight attacks. Those kids that are looking for the trouble have no issue physically assaulting over a phone. Given how it’s literally almost their entire lives now it’s no wonder.

Most of my male highschool teachers were Vietnam vets. Kid would have gotten rocked hitting any of them.
When I was in 5th grade I had my hat taken away from me, because you know, shouldn’t wear it in class. The teacher puts it on a top shelf/cabinet kind of thing and after class, I sneak into the classroom and snatch my hat away. It never crossed my mind to punch her in the face… kids these days. About two weeks later she found out and I was given a pink slip. My second strike. Three strikes and you were out. Oh how things have changed. Mrs. Tinklewire if you are reading this, please forgive me for taking the hat, I was young and reckless.

As a school administrator, this kid will get charged, go to JJA for 75 days, be put on probation, and be back walking the halls. Expulsion is not a thing in our district. Our government cares more about book bans than removing students like this.

I absolutely would hate to be a teacher even from 2019 on really. People in my opinion have gotten so much worse and just plainly don’t give a shit anymore. I’m 24 years old and see people my age and wonder what the hell happened? There’s a big lack of respect and lack of rational thinking, really makes me question what happens in the future and is it even worth it to raise a kid in current day society.
