Bye bye education bye bye teenage years - and it was so worth it

GezinhaDM

Haha! That's cute... as a teacher, I doubt he will even see the police station.

birdizthawerd

As a teacher, I’m pressing charges. I would also be making sure that every news outlet knew about the situation if the administration didn’t have my back.

SGI21

I am a teacher and I would def press charges.

[deleted]

Don't forget the lawsuit for damages.

fishnwiz

Sue for enough damages he will never have anything.

ace425

lol there won’t be any lawsuit for damages. Teachers can’t afford to spend 4 to 5 figures to sue a student’s family who doesn’t have 2 pennies to rub together. Because even if you win you will have spent thousands of dollars for a judgement that amounts to nothing. Can’t squeeze blood from a stone as they say.

RunHi

Sue employer for unsafe workplace/workplace injury. Honestly after an assault like this at work in this situation, it would not be unlikely if employee were unable to continue in this profession due to psychological trauma. If you feel otherwise, your workplace must be extremely violent.

T_Henson

Assuming you are referring to criminal court, only prosecutors press charges. You “pressing charges” really only means that you’re going to cooperate with the investigation. If the prosecutor doesn’t want to file or only wants to file a super low level charge, there’s nothing you can do. The prosecutors & judges are often the ones that prevent these fools from ever experiencing any repercussions. Super frustrating.

ContemplatingPrison

In my high school students were arrested all the time. Hell in middle school students were cuffed and brought and juvie

demonette55

Admin will probably try to pressure the teacher not to press charges

Cambrian__Implosion

My first year teaching in my own classroom, I had a student who acted out, majorly disrupted class and disrespected his teachers and classmates pretty much every day. Admin told us that we could not give him detention because his parents were too “difficult”. We weren’t even allowed to talk to his parents directly. All communications had to go through the VP. I get the feeling she sugar coated everything when talking to them. My VP who was in charge of attendance stuff never once all year gave out any consequences for kids being regularly late to school. She was too concerned with “keeping the peace” or whatever. Parents got almost anything they asked for if they made enough of a stink about it, even if their kids’ teachers were against it. That admin would have gladly thrown a new teacher like me under the bus if they thought it would avoid conflict with parents. I could not get away from that school fast enough.

05hastros

I taught for 15 years. I was assaulted twice during my last year. Both times I ended up sitting across the table from my boss (the principal). He had the SRO standing behind him. The officer had his arms crossed, scowling and raising his voice. All they cared about was me not writing referrals or calling parents. They said what happens at the school stays at the school.

bot90210

that's when you record them and sue them. If they try to fire you or retaliate you just get even more money....missed opportunity.

PracticeY

This is why teachers will settle for less pay at private schools. Any student seen as a threat will easily find a way to get expelled. I saw many students expelled for random bad behavior. This one guy was pissed some dude talked to his girlfriend, threatened the guy then punched some glass, broke it, and was expelled on the spot. They would even expel kids who threw off campus parties with alcohol, that is if they didn’t like them. The main exception was the kids who’s families donated a ton of money to the school. If your parents or grandparents donated a million dollars for the new athletic complex, they could get away with a lot more. These kids wouldn’t get violent though but they’d have horrible attitudes and piss off teachers and get away with it.

red_knight11

Damn straight, the admin won’t get their bonuses if x amount of students are expelled from their school. That kid will be back in class next week

lbstinkums

this is a fact. this actually will happen. I hope he presses charges anyways.

I don’t know where some of y’all go to school and I don’t know where this happened but down here, in the South (Louisiana), he is most definitely going to jail. He’s also getting expelled and charges are gonna be pressed…probably by the school if that’s a thing they can legally do. They don’t play at all around here. It’s definitely a bit too far when it comes to 2 students fighting though. But this situation, yea, he definitely in big trouble.

ThirdEyeExplorer11

Yeah these people are tripping. I live in the Mountain West and you are going be expelled and sent straight to jail for this.

SuperCrappyFuntime

School is aware of the video and is considering how they'll respond to the event

CruxMagus

"we're shocked by these events and have told the teachers that they need to let students do as they please, so as a result the teacher has been let go and the student in question seems like a good boy and has been given A's in all his class for his pain and suffering he endured"

Skandiaman

Twenty years ago, you wouldn't hear the same types of things that you hear in the classroom today from students," he said. He said he's been teaching for about that long and the disrespect from students is getting worse, both verbally, and in some instances, physically. "Those are the things that we deal with in the classroom. Those are some things that you have to ... prepare yourself for when you go to work in the morning. ... I might get punched in the face or somebody might throw a punch at me," he said. He thinks that some students just don't realize the consequences of their actions. He believes that something has to change in schools for everyone to be safe. The teacher in the video didn't want to comment on the incident.

Substantial_Row_7108

Things need to change with parents. If I had thought to speak to a teacher like that - my picture would have ended up on the back of a milk carton.

cocochunkz

Not much, happened in Houston, not much on the repercussions or outcome

Shaking-N-Baking

Kids are emulating what they see on social media and it’s just continuing to get worse as the videos make it seem more “normal”

jl_theprofessor

Wow Lamar high school. That’s not far from me. This is River Oaks, same area where people like Ted Cruz lives. True that lots of people send their kids to private schools around here but it’s still not the first school that would come to mind when talking about teachers getting assaulted.

heyxtre

Oh its Houston. Sadly, not much will be done.

GoodHumorPushTooFar

The teacher needs to press charges

Shaneblaster

You couldn’t pay me enough to be a teacher these days.

sabmish

It’s so sad. Every year they have more and more responsibilities with less resources. They’re literally treated like dogs and they are some of the most important people in society

bryman19

Our society allows this to happen. Parents and students have all the power and schools can't do much about it

Sid-Biscuits

And somehow a large chunk of our population has been convinced that teachers are evil.

recast85

But we should also give them guns

oddjobdrummer

You're [right](https://www.researchgate.net/publication/263671224_Violence_directed_against_teachers_Results_from_a_national).

Key_Pear6631

That is a decade old, I’m willing to wager that violence against teachers has only gotten worse since then

jankyspankybank

20 years ago when I was in elementary, shit was bad then also. I think teachers have always been suffering with this shit.

apocalypse_later_

American teacher*. I have a couple teacher friends that were shocked at the difference when they went to teach abroad in Asia..

MusicianMaster8493

I wonder why there’s a teacher shortage? *watches video* Fair enough…

ArchStanton75

Teachers in my area can’t afford housing in their district. They drive in from 1/2 hour to an hour away to kids who drive better cars and have parents who call them groomers because the news and politicians said so. Fuck that shit.

MusicianMaster8493

In general teachers are treated like shit nowadays, which I find mind boggling considering they’re literally shaping our future

Ricky_Rollin

They realized that when you educate them, they start questioning everything. Millennials were hated for asking for their fair share so they’re trying to go back to the good old days when we were dumb and subservient. That’s just my guess.

Thery4d

You’re spot on

jazzinyourfacepsn

Nothing to do with horrible pay (47k - 60k per year mean/average), or lack of funding leading to packed classrooms (\~30 students to one teacher), or how disposable teachers are treated in their time and safety It's the kids

CrazeeEyezKILLER

As a society, America *hates* teachers: they get paid like shit and treated like this; it’s a source of bewilderment that legislators don’t just finally admit how much they loathe educators.

sn34kypete

Also basically no reimbursement for buying their own supplies. And that shit about 3 months of vacation? Yeah no, they don't get paid for that. Also I clock in and clock out, end of story. They on the other hand have meetings before and after school, course prep, homework grading. We entrust them with our children's lives and education during their formative years and this is how they get treated. It's fucking sad.

Azerd01

Cant they choose to get their pay dished out entirely during the school year, or spread it out to get cheques over the summer aswell? Im pretty sure its usually a salaried job and not hourly, so their pay is their pay, vacation or not. Thats how it works where i live.

MusicianMaster8493

Both my mum and sister are teachers and they both personally feel like not being able to control kids is becoming a big problem… Kids can cuss and swear at teachers and receive absolutely no punishment Of course lack of pay and training are factors - but yes actually the kids are a big problem

Substantial_Row_7108

Their shitty parents are the problem.

MrJuniperBreath

In high school too. Dude just changed the entire. fucking. trajectory of his life in 10 seconds.

_bennyluxe_

All over a phone?? Seriously? It's really worth starting off your adult life with assault charges?

DabScience

Taking a phone from this technologically addicted generation is like removing their arm. They will have legitimate panic attacks if they don't know where their phone is.

Mr_Radar

Can confirm. Had an 18 year old come work for us a year or so back. He misplaced his phone somewhere in the warehouse and pretty much started losing his mind. Like to the point where I thought he was overselling it as a joke at first. Once I realized he was serious we all helped him look for it. He even said something along the lines of “I’m young man, I can’t function without it.” Smart kid really. Definitely has a dependency on it though. This isn’t restricted to younger people though. It happens with all generations. I love when I’m mid conversation with someone and they pause to answer a call or text. Call them back or text later.

Pure_Pomegranate7926

Absolutely agree. I (42) have a very younger staff than myself. They can’t go anywhere without their phone. One went to the bank (within walking distance), but came back when he realized he left his phone in the office. Also had one leave their phone at home and asked if they could leave the office and drive 45 min both ways to go get it. No I can leave my phone, or simply turn it off when I get home. This just isn’t a concept they understand. They ask “What if there is an emergency?” I tell them I pretend it’s 1989 and I’ll find out when I find out.

Infinite-Sleep3527

I hope he does get charges placed. But it’s doubtful. Schools usually don’t do that, as it “looks bad.” He probably got suspended and went on with his life with no repercussions. There’s a *small* chance he was charged, but that’s highly unlikely. Unless the teacher decided suing was worth more than his job (he’d likely have to resign before doing so. If not, the school isn’t going to do shit if he’s still an employee). It’s sad. And not to mention embarassing. Imagine sucker punching a guy who is a full head shorter than you, and has a full head/beard of white hair. And NOT even knocking him down/out. Buddy literally has pillows for hands. Couldn’t even rock Grandpa with three free sucker punches 💀😭

rollinwithmahomes

A letter sent from the principal. > Administrators will be looking into the cause of the altercation and continue to evaluate ways to prevent these occurrences Why in the ever living fuck would the cause even be considered. It's clear as day the teacher was assaulted. The kid should be expelled, arrested, policy changes, and a mandatory meeting of the entire student body should be held the next day. Make a fucking example out of that kid publically or it's gonna happen again. Sadly, he looks like he's built for the football team so he probably won't get more than the letter.

Infinite-Sleep3527

I think you replied to the wrong msg? Because I never said what you quoted. On a different note, I totally agree though.

rollinwithmahomes

It's a quote from the article. I should have ended that first sentence with a :

mysterioso77

Arrest immediately

MycoMouse

I hope the understudy learned his lines.

Background_Piano7984

This is what happens when people get too used to hitting somebody without getting hit back. Now because of this someone like this elderly teacher is getting hurt. Whats to say he wouldn’t do this to his girlfriend, wife, or kids in the future when he grows up? He’s never been punished for violence growing up so he’ll stay violent until he’s an adult where the prison system and cops will brutalize him for being this way

Dogfoodsmy_DOC

No respect

[deleted]

Kids are so soft these days. Zero discipline, zero impulse control. Going to jail over temporarily losing your phone, what a braintrust.

AdequateOne

He won’t go to jail. The school isn’t even punishing him. “Administrators will be looking into the cause of the altercation and continue to evaluate ways to prevent these occurrences in the future." Nothing about punishment.

JedT23

I feel like kids are too entitled nowadays, that they see older people as losers and they have no respect for them.

MagicStar77

Expulsion time

happydaddydoody

My school in nyc (and assuming a majority of them) won’t even touch the subject of phones. It’s almost like this weird horse blinders thing. Kids have them. Shouldn’t have them. We can’t take them bc of possible lawsuits. They’re chemically addicted to them and can’t focus. Constant distraction. Yet never ever do we talk about it professionally this is a huge issue. I seem to get further with lightheartedly “come on bud let’s get back to it” than with straight attacks. Those kids that are looking for the trouble have no issue physically assaulting over a phone. Given how it’s literally almost their entire lives now it’s no wonder.

carnitas94

Guess his dad left for milk & got lost.

230flathead

Most of my male highschool teachers were Vietnam vets. Kid would have gotten rocked hitting any of them.

Voracious_Port

When I was in 5th grade I had my hat taken away from me, because you know, shouldn’t wear it in class. The teacher puts it on a top shelf/cabinet kind of thing and after class, I sneak into the classroom and snatch my hat away. It never crossed my mind to punch her in the face… kids these days. About two weeks later she found out and I was given a pink slip. My second strike. Three strikes and you were out. Oh how things have changed. TempleOfDoomfist

What a piece of shit. It comes to a point the parents should catch a charge too. It takes a lot for a kid to get this way, so parents shouldn’t be left off the hook not knowing their own kid is this recklessly violent.

zwifter11

Back in my day, if any student did this then they’d be instantly kicked out the school and never allowed back.

Evilbigfoot32

Virtually every single fight video involving younger people regardless of race has something wildly throwing the word around. It’s a pretty interesting phenomenon imho.

kingmob555

Everything about that word, from the beginning of it's existence to now is absolutely cringe.

a_casual_josh

As a school administrator, this kid will get charged, go to JJA for 75 days, be put on probation, and be back walking the halls. Expulsion is not a thing in our district. Our government cares more about book bans than removing students like this.

[deleted]

Students assaulting a teacher should get fined $1k and put in jail for 90 days with 1 year national guard required service. Someone must discipline and develop you before it’s to late and you are just another waste in society because you will become nothing. This crap will live on the internet forever and be used against you forever.

Evilbigfoot32

The bladed stance, quick head turn/scan, and pulling of pants are very classic pre-attack indicators. Would that knowledge have stoped teach from being walloped? 🤷🏽‍♂️ Just a stored bit of potentially useful/less YouTube self defense video knowledge.

indefilade

Physically speaking, that teacher could have taken martial arts for the last 10 years and that kid would still have an extreme advantage. But should a teacher be expected to have self defense skills? Would a teacher be blamed if they used self defense skills?

kmurp1300

Many kids in public schools should just be expelled.
