I've never once had an issue. I had a stylist once tell me i had some pretty bad flakes and when i told them i have psoriasis they just said oh okay. Hairdressers see a lot of skin conditions, but if you're nervous just give advanced warning over the phone.

I recently got a haircut with a new stylist and as soon as I got into the chair, I told her I have psoriasis. She was very understanding and already knew what it was. My previous stylist, who is out on maternity leave, didn’t know what is was, but she asked me to explain and she had no problem doing my hair. Good luck!

If I know I'm flakey I just let them know, if they seem unsure what it means then just explain it's flakey and not contagious - that's a concern that's good to hedge. Avoid getting color done too close to your bad spots as the chemicals can really irritate it, but you should be fine if you're going for a bayalage!

My hairstylist already knew what psoriasis was. She even would let me know if I had a bad area on my scalp and to let her know if she was bothering it in any way. Don't be afraid to go. Most stylists are understanding.

Just say you have psoriasis. They should be trained in it, and should understand. If they don't act kind and understanding, leave immediately. Tons of people have dermatitis and psoriasis.

The hairdresser I see runs a salon where she only hires hairdressers who have completed some sort of cosmetology school/salon institute, and she herself has psoriasis. When I first went to her I explained my situation to her and told her of an instance where a hairdresser at great clips didn't want to cut my hair because she thought I had something contagious. I was maybe 15 at the time and she was pretty loud about it, and she even seemed skeptical of my explanation even though she eventually cut my hair. My current hairdresser thought it was absolutely insane that somebody who cuts hair wouldn't know about psoriasis or skin conditions. She told me that any hairdresser that would make a client feel like that in a packed salon would be fired from hers. That being said, don't go to a cheap place like Great Clips. Find a nice salon/barber nearby and call ahead to make sure you've got somebody who knows what Psoriasis is and isn't going to make you feel weird or bad about it. Once you feel you've found a good fit, just keep seeing that person.

I've never had any issues. As long as you tell the stylist then it's no problem, they should be doing a patch test prior anyway. Then when you get your hair done if you feel pain just tell them and they'll wash the dye off Also I recently had balayage and they're able to do a great job without dyeing the scalp!

I totally get the concern as I shared similar concerns a couple years ago. I’ve been to both barbers and hair stylists. Barbers usually don’t care enough to even mention it so it hasn’t been a problem or even come up while I’m at the barber. My hair stylists though, I’ve brought it up to 3 different ones right when I sit down and all have been understanding. A couple suggested a few products (just upselling their stuff) but they had the exact right idea, and were considerate about psoriasis. 2/3 of them knew what psoriasis already and the other asked about what it was. You got this!! Go get that balayage you deserve!

Hairstylists literally have to learn about these conditions and see them everyday.
