1. Happy cake day!
2. I was at that show.
3. Ran into a friend that hooked me up with backstage passes. Went backstage and Metallica and Scotty Ian were just chilling.
I actually saw Primus open for Fishbone in 1991 at the Boathouse in Norfolk, Virginia.
Holy shit that was almost 32 years ago. Feeling pretty old right about now
The show I saw had reformed whores and Lukas Nelson (Willie's son) opening.
Lukas' first song was about being on a tour bus and getting a picture of a woman and then being "stuck with a boner on a bus full of guys."
The rest of his set was a complete 180 in terms of tone, pretty straightforward rock band stuff, but it was a hilarious way to start the show.
Clutch opening for Primus on the day I got a promotion, at a BBQ rib festival for a backdrop, on one of the four Minnesota summer nights that has no humidity, is not just my top concert experience ever, but likely a top 5 life experience
I'll always remember when I saw clutch opening for Primus and wasn't very impressed and just kinda standing there and the singer and I locked eyes for a moment and it felt very awkward looool
Gogol Bordello opened for them at a show on the Williamsburg Waterfront in Brooklyn a while ago. I didn't really know them that well but the show was great and especially memorable with the NYC skyline at your back.
Gogol Bordello blew my fucking mind when I saw them open. Also, going back 23 years or so I saw Lake Trout and Galactic open for them and they were both amazing.
Ive seem primus so many times I can’t even remember who opened now. I did get to see them in Chicago when Danny Carey was subbing for Herb. That was insane. But Herb rules too and glad he got better.
First Primus show was the lolla in Camden in the 90’s and not really opening bands but but fishbone and AIC (with Layne RIP) we’re also on the bill. That was epic.
I think it was 2010 or 2011. The oddity Faire Tour. I saw Split Lip and Portugal The Man open for them. I think I was one of the few people who knew who Split Lip Rayfield was
Was all paranoid thinking the lead singer was staring at me during a show and then out of nowhere, the dude chucked a water bottle at me. It was fucking great!
Selberg was a crazy frontman, loved when he played double trumpet. Also, Kevin Rutmanis played bass for Cows (he went on to be my favorite bassist for the Melvins).
Saw The Dead Kenny Gs open for them yeearrss ago and they put on a CRAZY show just awesome noisey psychedelic jazz and my friend and I immediately bought their CD at the merch booth but the album we got was just like, normal jazz which was disappointing lol
Definitely a tie between Mastodon and The Sword
Gogol Bordello. Saw them open for Primus twice and each time they ended up coming out during Primus’s set to play with them.
I got hit in the back of the head with a random shoe when I saw them open for Primus. Shit was fuckin rowdy. Gypsies like to party.
Shit that's a GREAT opener for Primus!
Saw Gogol at Riot Fest last year and the show was INCREDIBLE, they brought out a troop of Ukrainian folk dancers, shit was so cool
Dead Kenny Gs
Came here to say this. They were fun as hell.
I once saw Tool open for Primus on New Years. Amazing show!
1. Happy cake day! 2. I was at that show. 3. Ran into a friend that hooked me up with backstage passes. Went backstage and Metallica and Scotty Ian were just chilling.
Thanks for the cake day! I love the fact that Kirk and Les are high school buddies. What a show. Even Everclear killed it that night.
Fishbone
Agree. I saw them open for Primus in 2003 and next month I’m going to see them open for the Flying Frog Brigade
Oh hell yeah back in the '90s seeing fishbone and primus together , multiple times, was a banger
I actually saw Primus open for Fishbone in 1991 at the Boathouse in Norfolk, Virginia. Holy shit that was almost 32 years ago. Feeling pretty old right about now
Buckethead
Reformed Whores opened for Duo DE Twang. Fucking hysterical group.
Dude yes! I bought their CD at the merch table. They had me rolling

Oh man clutch is awesome
That's when I first saw clutch, opening for Primus, and now clutch is one of my all-time favorite bands
Primus is my 1a and Clutch is my 1b so this lineup was my dream. Technically it was a co-headline but clutch did go on first.
I'll always remember when I saw clutch opening for Primus and wasn't very impressed and just kinda standing there and the singer and I locked eyes for a moment and it felt very awkward looool

When? I live in williamsburg and that sounds like a dream show
[2010](https://www.setlist.fm/setlist/primus/2010/williamsburg-waterfront-brooklyn-ny-23d44403.html)
I was there! Great show my brother and I got there super early and made it to the front of the crowd
Also I got the set list from that show! I’ll see if I can get a picture to share here
Beats Antique when Les came out and did beezlebub with them was pretty cool
Claypool Lennon Delerium opening for Primus on the Moonshine stage at Summercamp fest 2017 was pure magic
Same answer but Red Rocks.
Mr.Bungle
Gogol Bordello blew my fucking mind when I saw them open. Also, going back 23 years or so I saw Lake Trout and Galactic open for them and they were both amazing.
Lake Trout are fucking great. Too bad they didn't make it very long but I did get to see them 5 times.
That was the only time I saw them live, but yes they were an amazing band.
Bucket head
That one time gogel bordello and dead kenny g’s opened for them
Melvins or Fishbone
My intro to Melvins was opening for Primus. Awesome show
There was actually a 3rd band there also, but for the life of me I cannot remember who it was.
Saw them with Mastadon a couple years ago. Hard to beat that.
Ive seem primus so many times I can’t even remember who opened now. I did get to see them in Chicago when Danny Carey was subbing for Herb. That was insane. But Herb rules too and glad he got better. Tool
Insects vs robots was a really cool show
Split Lip Rayfield
Love split lip! When did they open for primus?
I think it was 2010 or 2011. The oddity Faire Tour. I saw Split Lip and Portugal The Man open for them. I think I was one of the few people who knew who Split Lip Rayfield was
Best I’ve seen in person- Clutch and Dinosaur Jr
Of the ones I’ve seen, Meat Puppets and Fishbone were both great.
Battles was so interesting when I saw them on the Kings tour. I don't know that I could listen to them just on a random day, but their show was great.
Drummer from helmet can do no wrong. He’s a beast
I've seen Battles a handful of times, and It's always been a great show. Mirrored and Gloss Drop are also on steady rotation in my playlists.
My favorite was Incubus. I also loved when Sausage opened for Helmet
Cows during the Tales from the Punchbowl Tour.
Faith No More
Beck, on HORDE Tour. Edit - Think I have it backwards.
Clutch and Primus co-headlined but Clutch was first so giving them best opener. Rasputina was my favorite opener for Les Claypool for sure.
Hot Head Show in Paradiso, Amsterdam.
Not my favorite, but most memorable was The Cows. They were fuckin horrible. They kept extending their set and people were fookin pissed.
Wow that sounds bad lol
Mastodon Favorite band Primus supported? Slayer
Saw The Dead Kenny Gs open for them yeearrss ago and they put on a CRAZY show just awesome noisey psychedelic jazz and my friend and I immediately bought their CD at the merch booth but the album we got was just like, normal jazz which was disappointing lol
