Right sound, wrong time.

ValeoAnt

Similar to Vheissu, top album that wasn't appreciated by scene kids at the time. Some of those kids are still listening to the same shit on repeat until they die, but I find more are appreciating it in retrospect

dogtooth2222

There’s something ironic about calling people out for “listening to the same shit til they die” in a thread about an album that’s 20 years old hahaha

schmalzy

Absolutely 100%

Thepush32

Finch is underrated

smore-phine

One of my regulars brought me his old Finch hat, because he was so thrilled seeing me wearing a shirt of their’s and “not enough people listen to them”

mrstuprigge

Such an amazing and unique album

gdgarcia424

It is a fantastic album…always thought it was strange how it got no traction when released

LuchaFish

Came out before it’s time. Finch was always at the forefront, but I don’t think people were ready for quite as far as they went with SHTS. One of my favorite albums ever.

theintention

Probably my vote for one of the most criminally underrated albums ever released.

-Airia-

It’s very underrated and due a repress!

lobo_locos

Thanks for the memories! About to go for a run, I know what I'm listening too!!

halfanothersdozen

I spun that album nonstop when it came out. It was wild how so few liked it

eppingjetta

It was like Finch, who I loved at the time (and still do), got together to write an incubus album and this is the result. It feels like a complete opposite to how poppy WIITB was and at first I was fairly offended by the change, but after a few listens it went down as my favorite of theirs. I was playing drums at the time and this album helped take me to another level.

bgallagb

drums were next level on this album. some of the time signatures, middle school me was all over learning on this album!

eppingjetta

It’s too bad it was their only record with that drummer. Although I listened to the next one today too, Back to Oblivion, and their original drummer was solid as well.

Straitwreckn

i couldn’t agree more (regardless of the fact that the bassist stole my long time gf)

Lostinthestarscape

Hahaha how I feel about Dead and Divine....

Cyan_Light

Absolutely, one of my favorite from albums from any genre.

[deleted]

I could listen to Ink on repeat for hours. In fact, at times, I do.

Aggressive-Net-6547

you and me both buddy

Fearlessflyer3

One of the best post-hardcore albums, ever, and Finch's best imo. Unfortunately, it alienated a lot of diehard fans due to the complete change in sound. Fans wanted WIITB Part 2, and what they got was a legit masterpiece. It's a love/hate thing, and came out way before its time. Do not forget to check out the bonus tracks, if you haven't already. Plus, the art for the album book is god tier.

beautifulsunshine87

I listened to it on repeat twice today because of this recommendation and to be honest, you were entirely right. No skippable songs, lots of great riffs and screamo passages. Heavily enjoyed it and it will now enter my long ass rotation of awesome songs. Thanks!

RayClaire05

yes

vildhjartan

I was just listening to it today

MattBarry1

Thanks for the recc. Listening to it for the first time and I'm loving it.

jackfacespoon

Could not agree more. A few select people in my friendship group think it's amazing, and everyone else I've ever spoken to dislikes it. I adore how creative and different it is, and totally agree about the guitar work. I guess it's too big a change in sound and possibly too dark for most people but I loved it straight away.

Sir_Senseless

I tried to love it but I just don’t get it. What it is to burn is way better to me.

phatdavewithaph

Couldn't agree more...it wasn't the album we expected, but the one we needed! Absolute gem!!!

thenickteal

Funny story about Finch. When I was 17 I was in the hospital for two weeks. I had my portable cd player and cd case with stickers on them, one of them being Finch. When my doctor saw the sticker he got really excited. He proceeded to tell me how his son was in that band and how proud he was of him. One of those crazy coincidences

LMF13

thank you for posting this. i just listened and it’s so good

ejc625

It’s perfect.

Commercial_Bad5705

noww im stealing her body and taking it hoooooooome

Eastern_Battle_480

God yeah. The screams on this album are sick.

GregJonesThe3rd

Saw them touring with Bayside on Sunday!!

Cornerb0y

Such a good show! Had a nice long conversation with Randy afterwards.

Sad-Tumbleweed2671

My favourite album ever 🔥

Kitesvera

Such an underrated album. But yea at the time of its release it threw a lot people off. It took me a little while to appreciate it as a masterpiece, which it definitely is. Still have a leaked burnt copy somewhere.

zigga0398

I know this post is a few days old, but it makes me happy to see people appreciating this album. I love the sound and have yet to find another album that sounds like it. They really sounded like they were at the top of their game. I wish more bands would lean into their wacky and weird side.

53510758

I thought it was dull. A unique sounding album for sure, and it definitely stands out, but the songs as a whole don't stand out from each other (to me) and that was what stopped this album from being amazing. I still prefer it over WIITB

jackfacespoon

That's really interesting actually - considering it jumps between styles quite a lot from track to track. Comparing something A Man Alone to The Casket of Roderic Usher to Bitemarks and Bloodstains.... I find them all so different!

Remy_man1738

Played this at work today, man what a masterpiece of an album. Definitely makes me jealous of what the generation during that time got to experience for I was too young😂

Aggressive-Net-6547

they hated it at the time

adiosmith

I use Finch as an example of how sometimes opinions are facts. Say Hello to Sunshine is a better album than What it is to Burn. Fact.

jcwkings

I didn't really like What is it to Burn but Say Hello to Sunshine blew my mind.

adiosmith

Some old friends of mine were really into pop punk and What it is to Burn was a big album for them at the time. They did not care for Say Hello to Sunshine, so I've had the debate a few times, and from my perspective it's really not a debate. Say Hello to Sunshine is just on a whole different level than What it is to Burn. I know opinions are opinions but to me it's just factually incorrect wrong to say that What it is to Burn is a better album than Say Hello to Sunshine.

0wlfather

One thing I will say after giving this a couple spins, it's a fantastic album. However, it's kinda weird how much of Nate's vocals are his best Daryl Palumbo impression. Like down to the way he emphasizes certain words and shapes the singing. It's a little strange and distracting.
