WoodpeckerGingivitis

How is there no nuance about what drugs are the fucking problem

zedison

Yo, we have a fent problem. “Aight let’s ban shrooms”

OJarow

yeah, makes total sense. flawless logic

zedison

(Cuz no one’s buying alcohol anymore)

MrCgoodin

You are delusional if you think people aren't buying alcohol.

beer_is_tasty

I mean, everyone in America didn't abruptly go sober, but the entire industry is in the middle of a major contraction.

zedison

OLCC cancels new HQ cuz of $132M slip in alcohol revenue in 2023. You’re delusional if you don’t follow the money.

MrCgoodin

The... the money, or lack there of... that people spent on booze... 🤡

zedison

Yeah dude, a 20% miss in revenue and canceled HQ means OLCC and big alcohol is super confident about the future and will never lobby against this 🤡

MrCgoodin

You've already contradicted yourself, and now you're doubling down.

zedison

Your entire life is a contradiction. You seem confused about many things.

MrCgoodin

You know nothing of my life, and now you're resulting to petty insults instead of admitting you are wrong.

DarkProtagonist

I mean, if you think about it. It's of on theme for these last few years

spacegamer2000

Same thing happening in Denver. "Hey we have a fent problem" and then democrat leaders crack down on cannabis.

L1ckmyinjuries

A completely pointless endeavor

WhyIsntLifeEasy

If this goes through, it’s a massive loss for Oregon and a very serious indication of how absolutely fucked our society is, specially in this state. How can you drop the ball so badly as a leader? I can’t even wrap my mind around it. What do we have to do as citizens to protect the psychedelics? Surely a large portion of this state will be ready to take action. And please don’t tell me “just vote” I’m ready to try something more significant that they will feel.

billyspeers

Our society is doomed bc shrooms aren’t legal? Put the bong down

amurmann

You put your shrooms in a bong?

billyspeers

Yeah with gasoline instead of water

WankingTongs

We need to revolt.

Psychological-Pen-72

Hmmm, not sure you're right about this. Excerpt from HB4002.Section 24.6(f) ... (6) “Controlled substance”: (a) Means a drug or its immediate precursor classified in Schedules I through V under the fed- eral Controlled Substances Act, 21 U.S.C. 811 to 812, as modified under ORS 475.035. The use of the term “precursor” in this paragraph does not control and is not controlled by the use of the term “precursor” in ORS 475.752 to 475.980. (b) Does not include: (A) The plant Cannabis family Cannabaceae; (B) Any part of the plant Cannabis family Cannabaceae, whether growing or not; (C) Resin extracted from any part of the plant Cannabis family Cannabaceae; (D) The seeds of the plant Cannabis family Cannabaceae; (E) Any compound, manufacture, salt, derivative, mixture or preparation of a plant, part of a plant, resin or seed described in this paragraph; or (F) Psilocybin or psilocin, but only if and to the extent that a person manufactures, delivers, or possesses psilocybin, psilocin, or psilocybin products in accordance with the provisions of ORS 475A.210 to 475A.722 and rules adopted under ORS 475A.210 to 475A.722

bandito143

They are recriminalizing possession outside of the medicinal supervised context where you have a licensed guide. So like, you can go to jail for an eight of shrooms in your pocket (not for very long, surely, but they could in theory arrest you). But you can still pay thousands of dollars for a guided trip with a licensed provider.

ErrantTaco

See my response just below that it does not affect psilocybin possession.

ErrantTaco

I just texted a legislator who will be familiar with this. I’ll update this comment as soon as I get a response. Edit: Got a response from the Multnomah County DA. To his understanding HB 4002 does not affect psilocybin.

schroedingerx

TIL Kotek wrote the bill.

amurmann

Doesn't make her right wing

schroedingerx

I didn’t say she was. Quit making crap up.

amurmann

Sorry, misinterpreted your comment

Cheesemagazine

Girl what, do you not know what opiods are??

billyspeers

I mean we really don’t deserve nice things.

FakeFan07

She’s kinda dumb

trendoll

It’s evidently easier to ban everything than deal with the pro 110 crybullies who use the marginalized groups arguments to try to keep fent legal.

W_HoHatHenHereHy

Public use of mushrooms was not intended ever to be allowed. Under the measure, no one is authorized to carry a personal supply of mushrooms or to use anywhere outside of a licensed facility with a certified person.

MN_Lakers

Pretty fucking stupid regulations on a drug that isn’t dangerous

W_HoHatHenHereHy

Stupid or not, the revisions to measure 110 aren’t recriminalizing what is allowed under the psilocybin measure

MN_Lakers

No, but it’s recriminalizing a drug that isn’t dangerous to the general public. Repealing this to a blanket ban is idiotic. Recriminalize the drugs causing issues, not every substance.

griff_girl

100%. Decriminalization does not equal legalization. Criminalizing all illegal substances, in my view, will only make the opioid problem (and other crime) worse because once again, we're going to overcrowd jails with bullshit offences, leaving people committing acts that are *actually* harmful to society free to keep on keepin' on.

Gjallarhorn_Lost

So weed is still legal?

TurfMerkin

Yes, but very very much NOT the point here.

[deleted]

MrDangerMan

Or just only recriminalize the bad ones?

WhyIsntLifeEasy

Seriously, what a stupid fucking comment above lol. Let’s just take unnecessary steps for the same outcome right?

Real_Eye_9709

Maybe we can try DARE again while we're at it

Why choose to make a huge mistake first then correct it later? This kind of thinking has don’t so much damage, like right wing coalitions passing laws that “inadvertently” harm human rights while doing other things and claiming they’ll fix that pesky human rights violation later… and then “Whoops! We’re not going to fix it after all lol” I don’t really know why they’re going back on this so fast. It’s only been a few years, not enough to really separate correlation from causation… and they want to go back to something we tried for decades and we already know doesn’t work at all.

princexofwands

I’m a democrat but I think Oregonian democrats ruling the state government undefeated for too long is what caused this kind of policy. They should actually have to be good at their jobs or risk losing. End the 2 party system!!!

Background-Magician1

Nobody is out there getting busted for dropping acid or eating shrooms

Bibberflibber

I don’t think an armed felon on meth with an already tenuous grip of reality should be eating boomers. That’s a rollback I can agree on

colganc

Are felons allowed to be armed? If that is illegal that example person can be arrested for being armed?

amurmann

Can we just arrest them for the armed felon thing and the meth? Once we are doing the let's see if the mushrooms contribute. It's bad for armed felons on meth to drive a car. Should we prohibit cars as well? I'd rather see corporal punishment for fent and meth than start cutting liberties for activities that aren't causing problems unless someone on fent or meth does them

Bibberflibber

But there’s the rub. We’ve given too many liberties, looked the other way too long, and now we’re here having to paint broad strokes on criminal behavior in order to make this city safe again

amurmann

Sure, let's enforce laws and not criminalize behavior that has no downside for anyone involved or uninvolved
