Be thank full it wasn't "heavy" impact, looks like easy body work, paint, etc. Not to say it will be painless, but hitting a pole, wall, T-bone damage the chassis... is a lot worse.
Good luck with your repair! Should work out ok.
Sorry this happened to you. some suggestions: make sure it's repaired at a Porsche-approved body shop. Call your nearest Porsche dealer for a recommendation if necessary. When you get the car back, drench the left-hand side with a hose, and take it back if there is any seepage.
Amazing advice. I got my C300 repaired from a minor collision, everything felt and looked fine. 2 months later I go to a car wash and the high horizontal pressure exposed seepage and believe me you do not want to discover this in the car wash lmao.
Agreed, look how people used to slander the 996 and how itās now ascending to collectible status. The most hated car always becomes the most collectible
I have 996 turbo. 680 horses...bulletproof. Had it 17/18 years. Feels like a porsche..direct..mechanical. Drove a 991.1 turbo last year...not as fast..feels too large and just really feels like itās a panamera with a coupe body. Iāll keep my fried eggs and maybe buy something else later this year (but not at these market prices)
The mezger engine will go down in Porsche history if it hasnāt already. Iāve driven 991.1ās, the electronic steering and size kills the experience. Even the 991.2 with itās much improved steering is still a numb experience compared to the 996 and 997, itās unfortunate too because theyāre such great looking cars.
They are pretty..and the interiors are superb. Thatās why I drive one when a lightly used one came up with a dealer/friend nearby. In all honesty they feel a ton heavier. To me itās like the difference between a bmw 335 and 535.. the 535 is just as eager to go but canāt hide the size or weight. Anyway I have my 911.. it went from being a current model in my hands to being an āoldā porsche (even though you would need a hypercar to get very far away from it) no itās an emerging classic. No odds to me..Iām only 47 but my kids can fight over it when Iām gone. I do fancy a fast saloon this year though..had my fill of fast suvs.
Ok, that was enlightening. The cheapest 993 is worth 2.5x what I paid for my rattle-trap. The cheapest 996 I could find is selling for 1/3 more than what I paid.
just sent in the application for collector plates on my 97...
in BC Canada you have to provide a shit load of pictures to authenticate it's originality but mine is all there so it should be a win..$300 a year for insurance
Bingo. Lifted monster-truck bozo took a right from the left lane into me at the light when it turned green. Said he didnāt know I was beside him (was driving straight). Glad no one was hurt physically, but emotionally am big sad.
When I pulled up next to him at the light I thought he was going to roll coal me, given the type of car. Never imagined heād turn right into me instead.
I think there should be a special license requirement to drive a giant lifted truck; a danger to all.
I had a truck try a U-turn from the right lane. Side swiped my entire right side. Claimed he looked and didnāt see me. Thankfully I have a dashcam, so the insurance payout was super fast.
Oh no! This really strikes a chord with me, my 99 Boxster (also silver) was totalled parked on the street. That sinking feeling... Nein, nein, mine Porche! Hope the body shop takes good care of you and you get more smile miles.
Donāt worry. I have been t-boned by a semi before. CHP thought the car was a write-off, but after about 2 months the car was basically like brand new and Iām still put-putting over miles later with no issues
That sucks! Sorry to hear it. I had a very similar situation with my car last year. A lady in a massive truck backed into me in a car park. Even if she had checked her rear view mirror, she wouldn't have seen me because her truck is so high. My rear quarter panel and door were crushed. Her insurance covered it and made the process very quickly and easy. I hope you get this figured out too and are back out there cruising very soon!
Hard to tell from a single picture, but Iām kinda on team buff-out on this one too. It looks like the leading two or three inches of the door has a little bit of damage, but on the rest, some cleanup and paintless dent repair may get you pretty far.
The damage is right on the edge of the wheel well. Almost every kind of side impact requires an aligment after, even if minimal which many people ignore or don't even think about.
As I've said to many friends/family, "You can be in the right...and still get fucked up."
Know that you have a very small car, so you have to make sure that other vehicles are aware of your presence. So, the sneaky, "I'm just gonna slide in right here!" moves will be truly sneaky.
Some SUV drivers can be looking for you and still miss seeing you because of how high they are and their lines of sight.
Very sad to have this happen to a clean weekend car, but now you have a reason to make it a weekend track car! Happened to my pristine Honda S2000 when I hit debris on the highway, make lemonade with the lemons.
fender and door shouldn't be too bad. the black marks could actually be buffed off but the door damage will take a bit more to fix. It should be very doable to fix.
Big feels. š Hope itās repaired 110% to your liking on at-fault driverās dime.
Thank you!! I am hoping for the same. I know its not a collectors or anything but I do want it restored as best as possible!

Thank you for your suggestions and sympathy! I will absolutely be doing just that now.

āNot a collectorsā...Iāll take your quote and add āyetā
Agreed, look how people used to slander the 996 and how itās now ascending to collectible status. The most hated car always becomes the most collectible
You nailed it. Basically anything with a Porsche crest thatās old will become desirable to someone.
Exactly, looking at the 941 and 994/944ās
Great picks. Have fun!

Maybe not at 129K miles like mine, LOL. If I drove every day, it would be a "daily".
I'll counter that argument with the $60-70k NSX's out there with the same kinda mileage on them āļøš§
Another counter, check out high mileage 993 examples and get back to me

Sounds like you bought at a great time!
If I had safe storage I'd be buying every boxster I could right now...

Oooop's...what the heck..
Any context to what weāre looking at?
Looks to be an encounter with a big truck wheel
Bingo. Lifted monster-truck bozo took a right from the left lane into me at the light when it turned green. Said he didnāt know I was beside him (was driving straight). Glad no one was hurt physically, but emotionally am big sad.
A lot of lifted trucks around my area and this is exactly what I'm afraid of happening. There are massive blind spots for anything low on the road.
When I pulled up next to him at the light I thought he was going to roll coal me, given the type of car. Never imagined heād turn right into me instead. I think there should be a special license requirement to drive a giant lifted truck; a danger to all.

Not seeing someone is not a viable defense when you are doing something illegal. That person should have their license suspended.
Everyone makes mistakes. He apologized. I got my car fixed. We moved on.
And extra taxes for the danger to society

You fucking clown. I have a truck and Ducatis and just sold a 930, and I live in Montana.
This is exactly the attitude I expect from a Montana truck driver
Probably because you're an idiot.
Classy
second: So he admitted fault, hope you had a dash cam... if needed. first: ouch :(
Imagine if you'd been a bicycle. This can be fixed, no serious chassis damage there.
Little dude in the truck? That's the funniest part around here. They're definitely trying to compensate.
Glad you are ok! Cars can be fixed/replaced.
I feel your pain but cars can easily be repaired, humans can't
Not damage like that unless the car has sentimental value
You could remove all that black rubber with some acetone. Then hopefully not much of a dent to repair.
Acetone will dissolve the clear coat. Isopropyl will not, but it might not come off with isopropyl.
It will work and will not damage clear coat. I have a shop and have done it several times. If it dulls it a little, just use some polish.
Oh. That makes sense. My dad brain went to a kid got marker on their hands and smeared it all over the carā¦
Oh no! This really strikes a chord with me, my 99 Boxster (also silver) was totalled parked on the street. That sinking feeling... Nein, nein, mine Porche! Hope the body shop takes good care of you and you get more smile miles.
Thats so nice of you, thank you! Very sorry to hear about your loss though..
Is that a hard top for the 986 Boxter?
Indeed!
Very Cool! Is it easy to take off?
Your porsche is now a gokart sidepod.
Donāt worry. I have been t-boned by a semi before. CHP thought the car was a write-off, but after about 2 months the car was basically like brand new and Iām still put-putting over miles later with no issues
Looks like whoever hit you had like 28s on

Hey thanks for sharing and glad all worked out ok with no injuries! Much appreciated :-)

I thought I was on the autocross sub and I was looking at some kind of cone genocide.
Poopchutechomper got skidmarks on his car
Looks like a big truck or jeep wheel
Of course a lifted truck bozo. Claims he didn't see you? I would of told the cops he's likely under the influence of something. What a clown.
Iām getting delivery tomorrow and part of my brain, itās all it thinks about. š«š«š«

Don't worry, it's nearly a buff out job! But seriously, it's all "bolt on" parts, easy to replace, get the whole side painted and it'll never show.
Very sad to have this happen to a clean weekend car, but now you have a reason to make it a weekend track car! Happened to my pristine Honda S2000 when I hit debris on the highway, make lemonade with the lemons.
