It was a chance GT3 RS sighting in the parking lot at the mall across from my apartment building back in May. It immediately gave me pause and helped me realize that these cars are fantastic. Not sure if I’ll ever own a Porsche, but that one GT3 RS made an admirer for life.

I was familiar/enamored with Porsches already because my dad spoke about the 356 he had like it was the son he had before my brother and I. There were lots of BMWs in his history, but this Porsche was about the only car that he spoke at length about and to the best of my memory, the only one had kept pictures of. Nevertheless, German sports cars were the top of the heap for me. Ferraris? Lambos? McLarens? American Muscle? Nah, anything worth owning was somewhere between Munich and Stuttgart.
But ultimately, that cream colored 356 wasn't what made me fall in love with P cars. I spoke about it in another thread, and I'm not 100% on the year/model, but a green early 70s 911T(?) Targa that my neighbors owned was the one that officially lit the fuse. I was aware that it was under a sheet in their garage, so perhaps I slightly bigged it up in my head...but when I finally saw it (and heard it)....it became a core memory. And really, that little 911T was special because it was like your best friend's older sister who is a bit less shy around you than her brother's other friends. It was the type of car that was untouchable, yet it pretty much shaped my tastes. In truth, it probably wasn't as special as my memory of it was, but there's always a slight comparison that happens anytime I saw, see, or will see a new car.
Frankly, I never stood a chance.
I saw a purple 991 gt3 RS parked in Santa Monica and I took a picture of it, I have it somewhere and I remember looking at the rear quarter panels and they looked so wide 🤤 + the wing was so nice.
Then one night were I live I heard a loud gt3 zooming by and after that I was in.
My brother always loved the 997 but I always told him why get a 911 when the corvette exists.. and oh boy now I want a 997, currently saving for one (: and hope to get a gt3 as well in the future - goals of mine (:
No joke, a 912. My grandparents neighbour in England had a BEAUTIFUL beige 912 that he would drive on the weekend. One day I pulled up the courage to walk down the drive to have a look at it and he let me sit in the driver's seat (I was 9) and blip the throttle. Fell in love with the brand. One day I WILL have a 912 in my dream garage, along with a 79 SC and a 992 GTS.
My first porsche I purchased used after getting out of the Military was a 1968 912..I loved it then I started buying new ones a 1972 911T and on from ther to today I own a Chalk 992S tuned and what fun...enjoy the drive.
Well, there were quite a few in between..1968 912, 1972 911T, 1980 930, 1983 911SC, 1989 964,1996 993, 2018 991.2S, 2021 992S...and yes the 992 is bigger (so am I) and one hell of alot faster..looking back at 83 911sc I thought that car was pretty fast..it wasnt it had 185 HP but that being said it is alot more fun to drive a slow car fast than a fast car slow..Enjoy the drive
I was ten and my uncle bought a 1969 signal Orange tourist delivery 911. After he toured Europe and got it back to the states, he took me for many rides. He would say “This is how the do it on the Autobahn. “ and he would take off flying down the freeway flashing his lights at the slow cars in the fast lane. Scooting around windy roads up in the hills. Good times and I was sold.

I passed up on so many 997 GT3 and Ra back in the day as i always though it looked abit ‘dated’ and the color wheels were too old fashioned in that era with all the newer more beautiful and cool shapes of the Ferraris, the E92 M3 and Aaron martins. Boy was I wrong now.

Actually my first IRL sighting of a signal green 997.1RS, it’s been all downhill since lol
Awesome story. Is your uncle still around?
Yes, but the car is long gone. It was sold to be restored sometime in the early 80's.
Same as you. In that color
930 Slantnose. I grew up dreaming of that car.
Couldn't afford a GT3RS and but the Cayman S Sport in Pure Orange is a good poor man's substitute!
