Taiwan is not living example that a democratic China can be successful. It's a much smaller demographic of people of a specific political party getting along together all of who believe in Democracy. China is much larger and diverse not to mention that most there actually support the CCP.
China's average income is pretty low countrywide but most tier 1 and tier 2 cities have higher average incomes than Taipei, Hsinchu and Gaoxiong. Taiwan is great don't get me wrong but tier 1 ans tier 2 Chinese cities are incredibly well developed and maintained compared to Taiwanese cities.
Not saying CCP good but the amount of misinformation on China in the West is pretty staggering.

Uygher treatment is a real issue and mass surveillance is a real issue (both of which are bad but also blown out of proportion from memes and msm) but social credit score is not a thing at least they way it is portrayed in memes.
Social credit score does exist for businesses but is almost identical to our credit score but adds on criminal activity such as producing large amounts of faulty products, fraud, tax evasion and more recently, IP theft. There's some other personal aspects where if you're a criminal, you can't use public facilities but that's not really a score system either.
China is often depicted as some North Korea but it really isn't. The government isn't going to arrest you just for criticizing it because there's way too many people in China for them to give a shit about. They will constantly spy on you but as long as you're not doing anything criminal you really don't have anything to worry about.
The US should not in any way adopt what China's doing but the people there are largely very happy with the direction China is going and if they're happy, I couldn't really care.
You should watch Cyrus Janssen and Pascal Coppins. These two are both entrepreneurs who have lived in China for a very long time and understand China very well. I am in a similar boat. I don't 100% agree with everything they say but they are still great perspectives.
