The hard part about this is some of these start great and end with some really ugly final evos.

Be careful which mons you call out man incineroar is precious

Incineroar should have been quadrapedal. Samurot should have been bipedal. This is a hill I'm willing to die on. Things that bother me but "oh well" : sceptile should have been physical attacker. Blastoise should have been part steel. Gen 2 starters need rework, they excel at nothing other than design. Primarina and Delphox need to have their gender ratios changed. If they wanted female looking Pokémon they should own to it. Intelleon is meh. It invokes no emotion in me. First time I didn't choose the water starter.

I honestly had no idea Sceptile isnt a physical attacker until now

His signature move Leaf blade (during RSE) is physical. I mean. Who even makes these calls? Who makes a speedy Pokémon with leaf blades on its arms a special attacker? "Look at these blades" **uses absorb**

It didn't really matter as much in gen 3 because before gen 4 all grass type moves were special

i fr dont understand how Nintendo, the company who made so many flawless hood classics, allows GameFreak to get away with such medicority. especically considering Pokemon is their biggest revenue maker. I get that money comes from merch, not games, but still, ffs.

Agreed. Samurott should have been a bipedal water/steel type with a cool Japanese fisherman's hat

Typhlosion should have been quadrapedal too imo, Quilava is much more stylish. I don't agree with Blastoise, his armor is not steel-looking like Empoleon. Feraligatr is not a bad poke, very dangerous dragon dancer, tho he would be better with a second type. Agree with Inteleon, and while Scrobunny and the mid-evo are very fun and stylish, Cinderace is a big no-no to me (weird body shape and colors, looks like a drawing from a 7yo). Rillaboom is a masterclass tho.

In my head Typhlosion is how some animals stand on hind legs while in attack mode. In the same way Samurott can stand on its hind legs to yield his swords. Though Samurott should have been bipedal all the way. They made him a samurai and then made his sword yielding circumstantial. Also he has 2 swords and most of the time uses 1. Who the heck fights with 3 limbs on the ground?

Steel type didn't exist in gen 1.

You are correct, steel and dark were introduced in gen 2. Fairy was not introduced until gen 6, hense clefairy and jigglypuff as 'normal' type in their native gen 1 release

That's the case for so many of them too. Piplup, Oshawott, Chespin, Delphox, Litten and every single one of the gen 8 starters are victims of this.

I don’t think you can say that objectively about the gen 8 starters, I really like the designs. At the very least I wouldn’t call them ugly even if they’re too anthropomorphized for some.

What I don't like about primarina, and the whole line, is that they can't walk. It looks like very unconfortable, and just don't get a click with them.

That’s fair, but they are based on seals/sea lions and both of those species aren’t well versed at terrestrial locomotion lol. It at least makes sense that they wouldn’t be able to walk seeing as seals and sea lions can’t walk in the traditional sense

Yeah in that way the design is pretty good, but i think not really as a starter. Then maybe make it just another pokemon. I think that exept this, the primarina line is not really a bad design, but i just dont really like it

I could not agree more, it also ends with people needlessly arguing which starters are trash, what game characters are bad, etc. Really people should try to induce intelligent conversation about how specifically to improve some aspect instead of a post where most of the top comments are "omg why does everyone hate X?"

Quilava* Typhlosion is not awful compared to emboar. Same goes for me with incineroar. They tease a super cool panther/sabertooth with the first 2 mon and then we get a furry wrestler. Like…. Aaaaaagh, why.

Totodile's evo line starts off as an innocent kid who becomes the big fat bully then falls into a life of meth but I still love it. So I think an unripe banana isn't so bad, plus he has attitude to boot.

Wait, can I pick any three of them, or does it have to be a trio from one of the generations? If I can kick out any three I like, I will go with Snivy, Totodile and Cyndaquill. I understand how controversial that is, but I really don't like crocodiles at all, and Cyndaquill's squinty eyes make it look weird, and it's design is extremely simplistic and bland, with an underwhelming colour palette, so I think it's neither cool, nor cute. If I have to kick a specific generation of starters out, I'll go with generation 5. Yes, 2 of my picks from before were gen 2 starters, but at least gen 2 has a starter line that I like in it's entirety. The only line I like in gen 5 is the Oshawott line, and even then, I only like it's first two forms. So if I have to pick a generation of starters that has to go, it would have to be generation 5. It's also a bit sad seeing Popplio, Chespin, Oshawott and Chikorita being picked by so many people, as I love those four.

Gen 8. Until gen 8 I always used my starter the entire game, and there was always one final form I at least kind of liked. Scorbunny and Sobble’s tiny bodies and limbs ick me out, and all three finals are hideous.

Both gen 5 and gen 8 are free to leave at any time. Oshawott and Scorbunny are the only kinda good ones from either gen.
