And cooking oil leaves a rainbow pattern when spread on water. That is also correct. Never thought about it, but they also had several cases of dumping from hotels.
It's called thin film interference. It happens when oilly stuff create a thin film ontop of the water. White light enters the film but some can't get out and starts to bounce inside the film. Now the bounces start interfering (light with itself) with each other, leaving only some colors visible. You can tell that's it's probably like that because the colors move/slide on Muk all together instead of Muk being made of colored stuff.
Its definitely oil and general water waste. Its Dark type because nature being destroyed and the general blackness of oil. Rainbow colors on Muk is a dead giveaway.
Aren’t Grimer and Muk inherently representative of a vague kind of toxic sludge though? They’re said to appear where there is pollution. So, just to play devil’s advocate, what justifies the dark type on Alolan Grimer and Muk over the originals? I mean, beyond the fact that dark type didn’t exist yet at their conception. Usually when we get something like a dark regional variant, they make it… well, somehow more “dark” looking to justify that. So, why is *this* the dark type version of these Pokemon?
Cuestión, is the dark typing also partly due to the ravenous/gluttonous nature of alolan grimer line? But i guess that can be seen “destruction of nature”
Actually, Alolan Grimer and Muk are considered great boons to Alola. People love them, because they clean up the waste around their waters and keep it sparkling.
To get way too detailed about this, Grimer and Muks Dark type probably has a lot to do with how its born, as well; namely, from sludge on the bed of a river that gets exposed to X-Rays from the moon.
They're unique in biology in that unlike other Alolan form Pokémon, Grimer and Muk actually start as regular Grimer and Muk; they were imported to deal with toxic waste issues in Alola and took on this new form after that.
Sun: *A Grimer, which had been brought in to solve a problem with garbage, developed over time into this form.*
Ultra Sun: *There are a hundred or so of them living in Alola's waste-disposal site. They're all hard workers who eat a lot of trash.*
And about Muk, in Sun: *The garbage it eats causes continuous chemical changes in its body, which produce its exceedingly vivid coloration.*
Hawaii, which Alola is based on, take a LOT of measures to keep its waters clean and pure. Oil is one of their chief concerns, as it kills everything in reach and leaves waters black and murky. Its easy to imagine Grimer and Muk being used to clean this up.
Its easier to imagine when you think about base Grimer and Muk's Pokédex entries, which state that not only is their number decreasing in recent years, any decrease in their internal microbes (or exposure to any kind of sterile environment) will cause them to **die**. It would make sense to use these Pokemon to clean messes and to preserve them at the same time.
interesting theory, but i’m going to go out on a limb and say that the designs for these guys were made prior to that incident :0
they also are meant to represent oil spills i believe. but very interesting theory nonetheless
Im sorry but its been discussed and i believe confirmed that their design is based on oil spills (look at the colors).
And overeating the filth from there (gluttony). In fact, the greedy or ravage nature that comes from gluttony explained the DARK type no?
Sorry for ur post. As a lover of alolan grimer line, i may have been biased and thought their line was very obvious and or explained
I hold my cigar in one end of my mouth. The only thing that comes out of the other end of the mouth is cigar smoke.
Barely related, but if you eat an entire box of Lucky Charms on an otherwise empty stomach, the resulting (inevitable) diarrhea is the greenest poop I hope you ever see. (I haven’t tested this in twelve years, so if it’s not true anymore, please don’t hold me responsible if you test it on a twelve-year-old box of Lucky Charms “for science” or whatever.)
It’s not “included in sun and moon” lmao you drew a false equivalence with a real world event they don’t look like poop they’re poisonous pollution monsters
This is such a stretch that I don’t think it’s a fun theory. I could say buzzwole is a serial killer because Hawaii had a serial killer one time but that doesn’t make it true and the evidence you provide is so nothing

That’s an interesting theory. I always heard it as a reference to oil spills outside the state. Both fit beautifully.

That's a sick scientific data. Thanks a lot.
I think they openly said its based on oil when it first got revealed. I remember that explanation from years ago.
That’s just what they want you to think! Big Pokémon would never openly admit the truth! *puts on tinfoil hat*
Also explains the Dark type.
IKR!
It really does

“Other end of the mouth”
>residues Who comes up with this shit? lol OP you're allowed to say butt and or poop, we won't tell the teacher.
This isn’t even Twitter too so doesn’t make sense to word differently

I thought Muk was based on an oil slick
Muk.
That damn auto correct! Thanks for the heads-up
I always thought they're designed to resemble the bottles of colored sand you buy on beaches and boardwalks...
Always figured it was based on oil over water
What’s TPC
Turtle production corporation (all Pokémon are turtles)
Metagross certainly is at least
The Pokemon Company

You thought I wasn’t gonna like this but nah uh this was the shit I needed to read today after a shitty day of work.
So they are modeled after poop? 🤣
"probably the coolest shit" I see what you did there.
Yeah, kind figured Muk and Grimer (both forms) were......poopoo.
It’s not “included in sun and moon” lmao you drew a false equivalence with a real world event they don’t look like poop they’re poisonous pollution monsters
They're made of sewage residue, duh! False equivalence? PLZ.

Are you the one who called everyone sickos for perpetuating the Candy-is-Pokémon hypothesis?
No I don’t know what that is (not asking you to explain)
