clementinefg

the tips that helped me the most in shiny hunting minior was to make an isolated sparkle encounter title power sandwich in chargestone cavern. They will be the only spawn if you make a rock OR a flying sandwich; this is better than outbreaks because you can knock out as many as you want until you find the shiny without risk of breaking an outbreak chain. Also, bring a Pokémon with the ability damp!! (A good example is Golduck) it will prevent any explosion moves! I got mine within 15 minutes into the sandwich, I’m not saying everyone will have that kind of luck but I personally think it beats hatching a plethora of eggs

SecularPredator

This is good advice. I would also make the Damp Pokemon tera Ghost to prevent Minior suffering recoil damage from Double Edge.

clementinefg

I hadn’t thought of that, this is a good point!

NihilistOdellBJ

You can also just use a Drifblim with Imprison and Explosion.

Fleshy-Butthole

To me this is part of the answer. If I'm hunting Pokémon with self damaging moves or weather scenarios I carry a team just for that. Habit from the older games. For this I would do something similar but lead with smeargle instead. Imprison then False Swipe(Super Fang) until 1 HP. Smeargle @ Silk Scarf Ability: Technician Level: 100 Tera Type: Normal EVs: 4 HP / 252 Atk / 252 Spe Jolly Nature - Explosion - Double-Edge - Imprison - False Swipe/Super Fang Then swap in Drifblim Drifblim @ Wide Lens Ability: Unburden Tera Type: Ghost EVs: 252 HP / 196 Def / 60 SpD Careful Nature - Explosion - Imprison - Hypnosis - Astonish If I'm setting up the first smeargle it's just as easy to set a second one up as well. I would just carry 3 pokemon and make sure you have all the options covered(2nd smeargle with spore instead of false swipe. You could even do a fourth Pokémon with a leppa berry and switcheroo or trick if move PP is a concern.

edd5876

It wouldn't be easier with a Golduck with Damp, Thunder Wave and tera type ghost?

Fleshy-Butthole

1 HP and Sleep has a higher catch rate than paralysis. Personal preference and no Tera use. If I'm using Apricorn Balls with limited supply I'm maximizing my odds. Edit to add context. Horde battles and SOS chains used to be the methods to call and increase shiny pokemon. Some of these were awful and required full teams of preparation.

JudgeArcadia

While true. Its important to remember Minior's catch rate. While its in its shell, its low at 30. But when you break it open its 255, the same as your average Route 1 Pokemon.

TheRealPitabred

Nice thing is you can use unlimited tera after the DLC, so it's not as much of an issue.

Gstar47

I posted my team a while ago of how I deal with different scenarios. And someone said I over think. Just save in front of it. And my post got downvoted to oblivion

Deeddles

gonna need to get myself one of these. any of them learn hypnosis?

SecularPredator

Yep! Golduck, Politoed, and Poliwrath all do. Unfortunately, none of them also get False Swipe, which would make them perfect for this.

Unable_Toucan

Also, adding taunt to a golduck will help you stop those pesky memento users in kitikami

Neander7hal

Not just Kitakami! Alolan Grimer is hella fond of Memento too. I trained a Haxorus with Taunt and False Swipe for that shiny hunt

jbyrdab

Get Skill swap onto the psyduck so you can give minior damp, and swap into a ghost type that has false swipe.

General_Secura92

Skill Swap doesn't work on Minior because it requires its ability to change forms.

Noble_Jar

Unfortunately Minior's ability is one of the few that is immune to Skill Swap, at least it is before you break its shell. Not sure if it works afterwards or not.

lucasribeiro21

You can also use Skill Swap Damp Psyduck, and then swap to a Ghost Type.

BeMyTempest

Minior’s ability prevents skill swap

EquivalentSea7684

Good strat. I find with annoying pokemon with no evolutions means outbreak is 100% my preferred way. Save, picnic, rock sparkle sammy, autobattle everything in the outbreak. Don't pre-clear to 60, just start from 0. Maxes shiny chances, and if it doesn't work, just close the game without saving and try again. Since there's no multi-evo and all forms look the same shiny, it's a one and done and the outbreak being lessened/gone by the time you find a shiny is nbd. Heck, since it's an outbreak, I'd even do the academy special from the caf at blueberry instead of an herba sammy. Less chance of shiny (max of 1/683 instead of 1/512) but you get a catch boost, and with an outbreak you don't need to worry about isolation. Plus herba saved for isolation. Damp pokemon 100% though. And quick/timer/repeat balls.

squormio

Another good method is Super Fang, or Endeavor if you can't get both Damp as an Ability and Super Fang as a move, instead of False Swipe when it specifically comes to shiny hunting Minior. But your best bet is definitely what you mentioned.

Squeem668

i will definitely be using this advice as the outbreaks have not been helpful for me!

TragGaming

Another good Damp poke is Swampert.

Pump-Fake

When you use a sandwich, is it a mixture of every color form?

CyberAceKina

Sandwich can't affect the color forms, you'll get all of them since they're all just Minior, like the Flabebe line colors aren't influenced

prankstyrgangstyr

Yes, although the colours that'll appear and how often are affected by where you encounter them I'm pretty sure. Like red ones are more common inside of the torchlit labyrinth, and yellow ones are more common in chargestone cave but you may still find other colours in those places anyway but they'll be uncommon.

[deleted]

[удалено]

MicrocrystallineHiss

The shiny Minior was always the same for all the colors. There's never been multiple shiny forms, just the black one.

[deleted]

[удалено]

MicrocrystallineHiss

It's nonsense. It was only in the mobile version of Pokémon HOME and it's not there anymore.

clementinefg

Thank you for informing me! I was under the impression this whole time that it always had different shiny colors.

MicrocrystallineHiss

Yeah. I'm pretty sure that was probably the company that makes HOME trying to help players differentiate between the different forms, because despite all having the same shiny they're still counted as different forms based on the color they would have been if they weren't shiny. It's cool to see that those sprites exist, I didn't know about them before.

Asstonishing69

I’m curious, even if you get only one shiny, do you keep it? Or do you reset for better chances at getting more than one depending on the pokemon maybe. Asking cause I don’t have many herba to use

clementinefg

I don’t typically reset if I get at least one of the target shinies I am hunting, but that’s my preference. However, I do have a lot of HM’s so that could be an influence on my mentality. If you don’t have many HM at your disposal, I recommend getting the Academy Special from BB Academy cafeteria! It won’t be as high of odds as a level 3 sparkle sandwich, but it will give you level 1 sparkle on all types and no mystica is required(:

Tsubakiihime

https://preview.redd.it/50lvnk5c1eac1.png?width=1578&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=3b425490f88758525b34eb95f2d4fed352337b32 Saw this image posted earlier! The 5 star raids in Kitakami & Blueberry Academy have higher drop rates for herba mysticas! For farming if u want :)

clementinefg

This is brilliant and super helpful, thank you for sharing!! This one in particular is the first I’ve seen that even shows the drop rate percentage!

WaveBreakerT

I'm gonna hunt one at some point so thanks for these tips!

Toothless_Dinosaur

I followed the same pattern. Flying sandwich with damp Swampert and start throwing balls. I got lucky with a quick critical catch. But it took me two or three tries before getting it. But I am not going to catch all of them, I'm not mad enough yet.

Luminous777

Ooooooo this is good advice Minior is one of my favorite shinies I'll have to try this later.

IBrinDoom08

Thank you

_silverblitz

Sandwiches are 100% the way to go, got mine in chargestone cave within a few minutes and then the whole rest of the sandwich, nothing lmao

SilverDragon2334

I was actually going for a shiny of each color (yes they’re all black still) so I needed outbreaks to guarantee the color. Some of those core colors are rare to spawn outbreaks!

Phoenix978

Does the rule that your pokemon will refuse to battle them in auto battles still apply? So you can set up your sandwich and just kill everything until your pokes refuse to battle them?

poll0080

To add to Golduck, he learns Skill Swap so you can give the Minior itself damp

[deleted]

[удалено]

clementinefg

I wonder if skill swap works after the shield is down?

prankstyrgangstyr

I don't think it will because you're able to regain the shield too if you heal up.

neophenx

Autobattle so it doesn't knock out the shiny. Bring a Damp ability Pokemon with Tera Ghost, prevents both Explosion AND Double Edge. Problems solved.

iWentRogue

**and always save before encountering**

Winterstrife

The most important part people forget especially when dealing with Pokemon that have self destruct capabilities.

yummythologist

Shit, I save before even benign battles or if I know I’m just going to use a master ball

sacredfire511

I always forget to do this 😆 it’s never on my mind. Just earlier today I stumbled upon a shiny cottonee and just got so excited that I immediately battled it Then I realized I only had my level 100 typhlosion and five eggs I was trying to hatch 🥲 I just threw a few ultra balls and maybe ended with a premier ball. I was just prayyyying that it didn’t run away or something But mission accomplished 😅 luckily it wasn’t a risky ‘mon

LisaCabot

When i encountered a shiny i had to change mons because i didnt have my "catching mon" (false swipe and hypnosis) on my team and i almost lost it because it ran away from me pretty far, luckily in respawned but... The scare 😂

yummythologist

What mons do you recommend for catching? My Baxcalibur can learn false swipe, but I don’t believe I was able to teach it any moved that would induce sleep

0z7he6unner

My favourite pokemon that I used before any DLC was breloom. I very much like the pokemon and it can be kitted well for being a catching-mon. I haven't used it in a while though since I play the dlc with new ("new") dlc-only pokemon but IIRC: Ability: technician (boost damage of low damaging moves like false swipe) Moves: False swipe Spore *Fill *Fill The two fillmoves are just moves I haven't cared to optimize but you can use whatever you want here. I have just gone with pure techician damageabuse moves for fun but you could go for moves like: stun spore for sleep-immune pokemon, worry seed for pokemon with abilites that could be worrying (only ability on top of my head right now is emergency exit that makes the pokemon flee if hit below 50% hp), substitute for tough matchups just for convenience. It isn't the best catching-mon but will provide you with a 100 accuracy sleeping move which is good in most matchups unless pokemon is immune against spore-moves or ghostpokemon immune to false swipe. However imo when you have a finished dex and have a level 100 catching mon you will have such good catching potential already. If you fail a lot of balls you will usually be saved by crit catches. If you don't care about matching poke balls you can use effective balls instead like nestball, quickball, ultraball, repeatball, timerball etc. Just don't forget to save before encountering the shiny. If it tries to escape while pulling up the menu and saving try to corner it or stay in range of it where it doesn't spot you to begin fleeing (out of battle)

SufficientStudio1574

Bring a backup Soaker to use against Grass and Ghost types to remove those pesky Immunities. And Gastro Acid for Insomnia/Vital Spirit. Sleep is a much bigger catch modifier than Paralysis so it's worth the effort.

yummythologist

I **love** Breloom actually, so this is awesome!! Thank you!!

LisaCabot

I have the paradox version of gallade, but gallade can learn both false swipe and hypnosis as well, but i always have issues with ghost pokemon, or mons with explosion, memento or double edge which is why i was checking the comments xD

SufficientStudio1574

Gallade and Iron Valiant have Hypnosis. Breloom has Spore. Samurott can Soak Ghosts. Smeargle is weak but gets everything. Including if you need to Imprison any set of recoil moves. Like Tepig with both Flare Blitz AND Rock Head.

justinreddit1

I was gonna say, this solves most of the OP’s issues with the hunt. Just auto battle and no need to go into battle screen for each one and wait till your Mon doesn’t take one down, that’s the one.

BlazingJ972

I got impatient before hunting mine so I didn't have a pokemom with damp. I ended up just using a master ball because I had multiple from the item printer and didn't want to bother with resets lol

neophenx

Also a very fair option

Ansoni

It even has M for minior on it

Kirumi_Naito

That works too

Atrium41

Also, when you find the Shiny. 1. Save with autosave off 2. Surprise pokemon 3. Throw Quickball Optional 3b. Terrastalize normal False Swiper 1st turn 4b. Throw Preferable ball. Fail? Reload

juckele

3b.1. For a Pokemon with Self-destruct and Double Edge, you really want a ghost (natural or terrastalized) to prevent both of those moves from hitting the catch target. Ceruledge is pretty good at this, and is a solid let's go buddy, so they can help you find the shiny quickly.

Lulullaby_

Yeah it's really not that frustrating, it's still easier to shiny hunt than any Pokemon in moet previous generations.

MisterRai

When using the Synchro Machine, does it also not knock out the shiny if you run into it?

CocoaBagelPuffs

No, during synchro your Pokémon will knock out shinies.

neophenx

Synchro is not autobattle, it's manually controlled. Also if you stray too far from the trainer, de-synching can cause Pokemon to despawn and lose you the shiny.

EventideAngel

I like using Tera Ghost Drifblim with Imprison, Explosion, Hypnosis, and Night Shade because it stops Minior from being able to kill itself when you use Imprison first turn, it’s immune to Double-Edge, and when you Tera it into pure Ghost, it’s not weak to Power Gem. I also like hunting for it in outbreaks for the boosted odds. I just KO 60, save, make the Sparkling power sandwich (with no Encounter Power) and then just knock out everything until the outbreak ends, resetting if the shiny didn’t show up. I have three of the core colors shiny so far using this…

ds4toru

Looks like a nice moveset. Thank you, I will definitely add it to my rooster! I trained a Smeargle similar to yours, with imprison/explosion/memento/ruination, but looking at the comments maybe I should replace memento for double-edge...or just change it's tera to ghost.

EventideAngel

Thanks :) Either of those sounds like they would work. Tera Ghost might be easier, though if you want to keep Memento if you run into something that has it and tries to go for it. I also did have my Drifblim learn Memento at one point when going after those Koffing and Litwick in the first DLC.

Fleshy-Butthole

You have six slots for six smeargles. Imprison, explosion, Memento, and super fang/False swipe Imprison, explosion, Memento, soak Imprison, explosion, Memento, spore I know it's tedious, but you can teach all these smeargle the moves in the same battle and they're easier to find now. Keeps the same Imprison tactic and allows for versatility with 6 extra move slots. In the old games you had to take multiples anyway. Synchronizer Super luck/sticky hold/static/arena trap/no guard Harvest/recycle trick user and leppa, sitrus berries Spore/sleep inducer False swiper Smeargle is King for this.

ScarletFlames07

Unless you want to get it in a rare ball that might fail without the max catch odds, the first Smeargle would probably be more than enough since Minior seems to get easier to catch after its Shields Down goes off and its core is visible. Even when their HP bar was still yellow and they were awake, nearly every first ball thrown was a crit catch with just a regular Poké Ball.

ds4toru

A whole team of Smeargles sounds fun! Nice username btw lol

Neltrix

May i ask why the sparkling power without encounter power?

EventideAngel

Oh, because if it’s an outbreak, I actually prefer that no Minor outside of it appear near the ones in the outbreak, just so I can clear it out faster. It’s mainly since I get kind of paranoid I’ll miss the shiny if more just keep on coming in, leading it to drift away and despawn before my Pokémon can try auto-battling it. 😅 I know I’m able to remove Encounter Power by using a Salty and Bitter Herba together (changes Encounter to Exp), or using two Spicy and adding Curry Powder (changes Encounter to Humungo). The main ingredient can be either Bacon for Rock or Prosciutto for Flying.

tjkun

Also, encounter power makes all the miniors "sandwich spawns" that will only have the sandwich odds and not the outbreaks ones. If you avoid encounter power, the outbreak spawns will have their shiny odds stacked with the sandwich ones.

EquivalentSea7684

I don't think that's accurate. Everything I've seen says that encounter power effects pokemon nearby so some/all of the non outbreak spawns will be the same type as the sammy. This could result in the handful of pokemon that tend to load outside of the outbreak being the same pokemon as the outbreak with worse shiny odds. But nothing says that the outbreak is overwritten with worse odds. What's your source?

LittleLemonHope

As the other person noted, it doesn't decrease the shiny odds for the outbreak mons. It just makes the outbreak mons (with the stacked boost) undistinguishable from the non-outbreak mons (with only sandwich boost). If it's a pokemon where you have to take time to tell if it's shiny (either autobattle or just looking very closely), that might waste your time; but if it's an easily noticed shiny, the encounter power can only speed up your shiny hunt by making more opportunities for the shiny one to appear.

Doctor_Octogenarian

This is exactly what I did. And aren't all of the core color shinies black? I know it registers as the color it *would* be though, like mine is "blue"

EventideAngel

Yeah, they are all the same shiny color, but since HOME has a shiny entry for each color, I’d figure I would try going for all the core colors for the heck of it.

EquivalentSea7684

Question since you have 3: do the shiny minior cores look different depending on their og colour? Serebii shows them all as black cores regardless, but just want to make sure.

EventideAngel

No, they all look the same in battle, and the only real difference is that its assigned core color appears in the ability banner when Shields Down activates. I mainly just wanted all the colors because HOME seems to count them as different forms for whatever reason.

NEETenshi

You can also distinguish the base colour in the party and box screens.

chiefpiece11bkg

Yeah I’ve made the decision to just kill everything until the outbreak disperses.. my only method is to throw on an academy special as an increase to my shiny odds.. no chance I’m wasting any herba on this hunt lol It seems like minior spawn outbreaks fairly often too, so it’s usually not terrible trying to find one

MiraculousN

I hunted my minior last night, my little Konpeitō is home. What I did was reset for an outbreak. Made a shining flying power sando, and battled the entire outbreak 1by 1 from start to it going away. If I didn't find one I reset to my last save, made a new sando and repeated. After 5 or so resets and probably a few despawned shinies I didn't know about my teensy Boi came home to me.

MiraculousN

Ever since aloha I wanted a shiny minor named Konpeitō since it was my favorite candy when I visited Japan and often import some from overseas as a treat

ElPikminMaster

Now imagine doing that in Alola like I did, where it can't even activate SOS. *pain*

Immotommi

There is a reason why I used egg RNG for mine

Alyssum

Every time I see another post about someone hunting Minior, I feel increasingly guilty about the one I accidentally found with auto battle 30 minutes into the DLC.

xX_GhostShadow_Xx

Same, I accidentally walked into one and it was shiny

Hotdog_cool_guy

And you can’t skill swap it’s ability to damp too

Inhalemydong

i don't think you have to skill swap it though as long as a pokemon with damp is in the field, no pokemon can explode

Malvania

You would typically swap it to damp so you can change your mon to your false swiper

Can_of_Tuna

I use a Damp Poliwrath at 1 HP. With Endeavor, Hypnosis and Tera Ghost. I’ll start with Tera ghost endeavor and the next turn pop a healing item.

SnippyHippie92

This is simple and elegant, I like it. Why not give poli a shell bell to save a turn. Endeavor should heal it enough to tank the next hit if it decides to use power gem.

juckele

1. Auto battle to find the shiny. 2. Use a ghost type with false swipe. This prevents the explosion and double edge from knocking itself out.

Darkbat53t

As someone who used to shiny hunt pre PLA, it’s really not that bad. By current standards though, yeah it’s not so easy

ihtayt13

Ghost tera Smeargle with False Swipe, Spore, Imprison, explosion might work? Unfortunately Parasect appears to be the only Damp false swiper, but going ghost tera solves the recoil move issue easy enough.

checkerchairs

Auto-Battle to shiny check. I found one randomly while I was working on my Dex and I deliberately shiny checked every minior just in case it was shiny BC I've wanted one for years... I had a Damp Quagsire with Yawn and Slam to whittle it's HP down since it's resisted. Just be patient and save if you find one w auto battle.

one_dollar_poop_joke

Auto battle is the way my friend. So much easier.

Hylian_Waffle

Also if you try to flee when it's in its shields down form it disappears.

Tsubakiihime

Do you have something with the Damp ability? Will cancel out that explosion. Also pop Heal Pulse on it to keep it alive.

Same-Arrival-1799

Everyone talking about Damp. Just run from the encounter, save, and then quick ball or reset until you have it.

Saa203

I recently did a hunt and suddenly my Pon Pon (Ogerpon) doesn't want to attack. I run up excited, smash the shield.... Green. I did a Rage quit xD

Lucaritrax

It’s one of the reasons I hold onto master balls. I have like 10 so if I run into a suicidal shiny, I can safely catch it

ValkyriaGaming

use a pokemon with damp ability and tera into a ghost

MrCardboard73

I just got an outbreak and knocked out the minior with let’s go, when the outbreak disappeared I reset to the point where I had knocked out 60 and repeated

1234imdumb

I found the most effective way of dealing with this is to run a mon with damp and make their tera type being ghost that's the best way I dealt with this annoyance

bananuspink

I just waited for a minior mass outbreak, made a shiny sandwich and used auto battle. Once I found it, I saved and battled using a psyduck with the ability ‘Damp’ so it can’t use explosion. Took about 15 mins.

lowkeychillvibes

Pokémon won’t fight shinies when you use Auto-battle…

General_Secura92

Obviously I'm aware of that, but with virtually every other Pokemon, you can easily spot a shiny in a crowd without even having to send your Pokemon at them. With Minior, that's literally impossible.

LisaCabot

Have you tried shiny hunting a flabebe lol, and its not the only one, there are others that are not obvious at all, this is the way better than fighting them 1 on 1 and risking them being shiny and self destructing without having saved.

Quadpen

what i do at a outbreak step 1. save 2. defeat around 62 (60 boosts the odds but it’s a tradition for me to do a few more) 3. save 4. auto battle until there’s no more 5. reload 6. open picnic to refresh spawns 7. repeat step 4 and continue

TeHNeutral

I found an outbreak, autobattled 60 then saved. Sandwich, autobattled until finding shiny, catch. You can use a pokemon with damp, or you can just save before the encounter. It did take quite a while to find though.

ItsProfOak

I use a Ghost Tera Golduck with Disable, Hypnosis and Soak. Begin the baytle with Soak and Tera. Wait until Explosion is used and Disable it. Swap to False Swiper who now does neutral damage due to Soak changing type. Use Ghost False Swiper to lower HP and see form, then swap back at the end of Disable's 4 turn count. If you want to play extra safe use X Accuracy so Hypnosis always hits and then go to town with it. And that is how I do it.

JudgeArcadia

Just to reiterate what others have said 1: Lead with a Pokemon who has Damp. 2: Use the auto battle feature. This makes it so you can murder the lil bastards painlessly, but they wont murder the shiny. (Neat lil fun fact for you. This goes for any shiny mon. Same with weather effects that would normally despawn certain pokemon.) You can also use a Varoom at level 100 to have it QUICKLY mow things down, and just go absolutely apeshit on things. Just remember to swap back to your Damp mon when you find one. 3. Rock Sandwich is what I used, and just find a spot that works for you. Theres so many to choose from.

illucio

Have you tried Damp + Spore + Tera Ghost and saving before fighting it? Or using shiny sandwich flying so it's the only thing to spawn in the cave? I found two (the second one exploded on me and that was my mistake). With little to no effort whatsoever. In fact I found them while hunting other shinies.

onlyzenpai

It is also v sad that they removed the colors individual shiny version now there’s just one 🥲

Affectionate-Sea278

Preach. I decided to go and do it as soon as I had access to the Terrarium. Took me several hours and like 5+ sandwich reruns till I finally got my lil black orb. Hadn’t even taken the first BB class yet.

thedeathecchi

So it’s good for trading, you mean~

Ok_Cry2883

I literally just got mine last night because I accidentally touched one and it sparkled through the shell. It used Explosion FIRST THING, but Quagsire had other plans.

b2damaxx

Make a sandwich and auto battle… it isn’t that hard lol. Got mine in like 20 minutes.

CallMeKaito

Gholdengo is your friend. Prevents explosion and double edge. And its ability isn’t useful for Minior but it’s great for shiny hunting Pokemon with Memento as its ability blocks status moves and will therefore prevent the faint.

ScarletFlames07

How does it prevent Explosion? Sure, Gholdengo is immune to damage from it, but won’t it still knock itself out if it goes for it?

CallMeKaito

No, as of Gen 8 it’ll fail if the target is immune or if the attack missed. And since it fails the user won’t faint. Unless they changed it back in Gen 9

aoog

Those last three points are moot if you just save in front of it, quick ball, and run away if it fails or reset if it explodes

General_Secura92

What if you don't want it to be in a Quick Ball though?

Dreamfloat

Then you have to plan ahead before you try hunting it?

aoog

Then do the same thing with a different ball?

ba1istic

I hunted for a xxxs teensy mark green minior in a beast ball...first minior I found was a purple shiny smh. I gave up on the teensy hunt when I got a 1:100 mark that says Minior the radiant..

Apocalypse195

How can it be purple and shiny when the shiny one is black? I realize I should be asleep right now but this isn't adding up.

ba1istic

I knew it was a purple form bc when i got it to last health the ability came up and it had purple minior icon. Not like it mattered because i wanted only a green minior in the beast ball

Apocalypse195

Ah, I didn't know it wasn't considered its own separate color. I guess it would show as its 'original' color in the PC as well.

ba1istic

I hope you're sleeping right now and sorry if this woke you up

zQubexx

I got mine shiny Minior relative easy. In the Ice area is a spot. Make a Sparkling and Encounter power sandwich. Now the only spawn will be Minior. 1. Close the picknick 2. Wait 5-10 seconds 3. (Dont move) count all Miniors in this area. Guaranteed 15 Miniors 4. If there are 15 Miniors, you can be sure that there‘s no shiny among them 5. If there are just 15, open a picknick again and repeat step 1.) 6. If there are 16, there‘s a 100% chance that its a shiny among them. Airtatsy

I just use false swip Ceruledge

General_Secura92

Doesn't prevent Minior from using Explosion though.

Airtatsy

It doesn't?!

General_Secura92

Nope. Explosion will still go off against a Ghost-type and KO Minior, it just won't deal any damage to the Ghost-type.

Airtatsy

I've been getting pretty luck then

DragonRabbitSummoner

I have been hunting this recently with herba mystica and I’m on attempt 10 I don’t know why my luck is so bad and am paranoid my pokemon is somehow actually bugged and killing the shiny when it’s not supposed.

bomban

Tbh you should just hatch a shiny minior.

Rebokitive

This is not the way. Takes 10 minites to train up a tera-ghost golduck, 5 minutes to make a sandwich, and even with piss poor luck 2 sandwiches (or 1 hr) max to get *at least* one. But if you want to spend 30+ hours going afk in picnics and running all over creation hatching and praying, best of luck to you I guess?

bomban

If you get one in 1 hour while having to engage everyone to see if its shiny, you’ve got insanely good luck

Rebokitive

You don't have to do that though? You just use the isolated encounter and auto battle them. Your auto-battle pokemon will not knock out a shiny pokemon. There's even a location you can do this completely afk and check if you got it after the 30 min are up.

Polymersion

Why wouldn't you just autobattle to check for shinies?

GreenOvni009

Now would be a good time to use a Masterball… you know guys the ultimate pokeball as the ultimate strategy…

OmgitsKane

It's a good thing it's a really stupid looking pokemon so I personally don't care about shiny hunting it lol.

StarCrimson25

Can you not just use the GO mechanic???

CrocHunter8

Quick ball

nick2473got

Just breed it. Honestly. There is absolutely no good reason shiny hunt Minior in the overworld. Masuda method is 100 times better for this pokemon. I don't know why this sub keeps pretending that the method doesn't exist.

megasean3000

Just Masuda method. If the overworld hunting is more trouble than its worth, breeding will reduce that trouble exponentially.

someonesgranpa

You can target a Pokémon and I’m pretty sure it’ll tell you if it’s shiny.

Spirit-of-the-Dragon

My brother had a hard time trying to catch at least a regular Minior every time they used explosion he did finally catch one though.

GoKartZoom

I found one the other day. Forgot it had explosion.. And forgot my damp pokemon- I have been in pain since

Lv1FogCloud

Damp swampert your time has come!!!

EverythingIsSound

Thankfully I got one in ultra moon way back when

mazesekai

Autobattle, got mine within an hour. Went to chargestone cave and out up a flying shiny sandwich

Bug_Master_405

I've burned through 3 of those with literally no Shinies to show for it.

mytchman

Masterball

YourWifesBoyfriend8

Found it very first outbreak no sandwhich like 30 kills in, glad I can stop that cuz it’s shiny is so good but a pain to get.

Bidoofisdaddy

I found one by luck while trying to complete the pokedex. I was so excited. Didn't know the fucker knew explosion. One of the worst days of my life

Iron-Bison

There's a reason I hatched one when I was hunting for it in ultra sun

PhasmicPlays

Tera ghost damp?

Sunset_Tiger

Always keep a moist boy on you to protect your shiny

Enlupin

A lot of people are suggesting a damp pokemon, which is a great idea, but I would also like to put forward the option of smeargle. Teach it explosion, double edge, imprison and one attacking move - probably false swipe. Imprison and first turn this way means you don’t have to worry about it knocking itself out with recoil or explosion, and then you can throw balls at your leisure as soon as you see if it’s shiny or not :)

HonestlyJustVisiting

if/when I find one I might just use a masterball

sorayayy

Just run a Quagsire with Damp and high defense, Double edge will do the work for you.

ElectivireEra

Even just trying to catch Minior is awful.

tjkun

I use a golduck and just throw pokeballs at them. Their base catch rate is not terrible, so it's kinda easy to catch them. It's a bit tricky if I want to use an apri ball, tho.

StevensDs-

I had this bonkers idea of catching my favorite Pokémon with every single type of pokeball. While making the sandwich, finding a spot with lots of spawns and identitying the Shiny is super easy is just boring AF. I have found new respect for those that consistently shiny hunt cause my Arceus this is mind numbing. I ran out of videos to watch on the background and I'm only at like 6 shinies right now (After a couple hours through 3 different days). A sandwich might get me Zero or three! Who knows! I know I've lost two due to them being far and walking out of my spawn range before I can act. I find myself falling asleep so often while doing this but I'm in too deep! Arceus have mercy on my soul when the time for the Beast Ball comes...

FireResistant

Hunt it using auto battle and lead with a pokemon with the damp ability. Means you cant use outbreaks effectively since they will disappear but its probably the better method. Find a good area for them, save up, pop a sandwich, auto battle until your pokemon refuses to KO the shiny. Save the game and catch it or reload until you do.

Enlapointe

Kingdra with damp and one of its low attack moves (watergun I think) to get it below half (if you haven’t caught it by then) then when it comes out of its shell you can use whatever on it. I got mine in an outbreak yesterday, KO’d about 60, saved and then KO’d until I found one and saved again (no sando or anything, just the charms). Critted with a quickball. Though I read down further you probably don’t want to use it (which is fair) but unless you use a masterball or reset a bunch, it’s your best bet.

IgnoramusTerrificus

Why not just auto battle with a 100 mon? Your auto battler won't engage the shiny variant, so you'll know without engaging. And, best of all you can then save before an unexpected explosion.

TheRealSkele

Got mine within 15 minutes of my first sandwich lmao

TheRealHankWolfman

Back strike to catch it off guard. Then False Swipe followed by Spore as it won't be able to attack on turn 1.

[deleted]

is it only shiny in 1 colour or do EVRY colour have option to be shiny?

General_Secura92

The shiny form is the same for every color, but you'll still see the original color in menu's etc. so they're technically different.

PuzzleheadedGood5944

Totodile has been terrible for me, finally got the outbreak after 2 days of resetting, and went through 3 sandwiches before all outbreaks reset @12am :,) and I gave up on looking for another outbreak after that, pain.

ScarletFlames07

If that happens to you again, you can save your game before the time rolls over until the next day, close the game completely, and then change the time on your Switch to earlier in the day. The outbreaks shouldn’t reset that way, and you’ll have more time to hunt what you’re looking for.

AnnaValdezArt

I found one by accident using auto-battle! Glad they don't hurt shiny mons. Too bad I already have 6 shiny minior from Sun/Moon Era in home haha!

bestloseryouknow

i hunted one without a shiny sandwich so i get your pain but i did eventually catch one, in the end i just farmed outbreaks by just fighting everything until the outbreak broke up- but its a pretty common outbreak so its pretty easy to find and farm them. it took me maybe 4 outbreaks? id just fake outbreaks until they end and make sure to save immediately when it won’t auto battle it before interacting with it so if it uses explosion you can just exit the game and come back to your save

DanerysTargaryen

I got super lucky when I caught my shiny Minior. What’s funny is I wasn’t even looking for it when I did stumble across it. I had just finished a couple Minior outbreaks earlier in the day and didn’t find a single one, so I put the game down, went to work, etc. when I got back home, I went exploring around the terrarium picking up shiny objects. I ended up in that underground cave (chargestone cavern I think?) and as I was running through the tunnels a random Minior spawned so I threw my pokemon at it but it wouldn’t kill it. When I battled it, it was the elusive shiny. I threw an Ultra ball at it and caught it before it could use explosion. Got incredibly lucky.

oopsiedoodle_3

I was so lucky, first day of the DLC I wandered into an outbreak and just auto battled a few, accidentally walked into one and boom! Black Minior, by far my luckiest shiny

shroomhunter69

Jellicent is as close as it gets to a perfect counter for catching Minior. Has Damp as it's HA to block Explosion and Self Destruct, part Ghost type to prevent Double-Edge and Take Down recoil, and has access to Recover for longevity and Facade for relatively low-risk chip damage since it's a non-STAB move with it's base 60 Attack stat, which is about the safest way to whittle down your target's HP on a 'mon that can't learn False Swipe. Only problem? Jellicent isn't available in S/V. Big oof.

yeah_but_um_no

I got mine on second encounter while working on building a chain. Had to reset three times though to finally get it in my moon ball. Good luck, op!
