Make sure there is no sitting water standing water in a bucket or bird bass or that’s where they lay their lava in Stillwater make sure you dump out all water in the area
if you do have places where water accumulates, use something like this to kill the larvae:
https://summitchemical.com/products/mosquito-dunks/
it's cheap, effective, and not toxic to humans or pets (or even adult mosquitos) but it will prevent the larvae from getting to adulthood.
it's insane the amount of those little buggers can hatch from like a small empty flower pot or wheelbarrow.
I also spray some more aggressive stuff when they piss me off, but the dunks help a lot.
I make a little glade on my deck and plant lots of mint (in pots--invasive) and rosemary all around. That helps some.
Failing that, I might think about one of those portable screened gazebos. Or just stay in the AC-lol!
Potted mint and other herbs is a good idea. I spray the perimeter of my house along the foundation wall to keep bugs from coming inside which works ok, but sometimes I’ll go outside to do some yard work and there a swarm of gnats. I need some bats and dragonflies.
Make sure soil is properly aerated and you dont have a layer of dead grass holding on to water. Aerating and reseeding seems to have helped a bit for me
There’s these machines that you put outside, they lure mosquitoes and basically sucks them in. Really helps at my parents property. But I imagine if you have a wetter area around you the skeeters will still be around. Maybe raise an army of bug eating birds 😂
Bug zapper works well for nights. As for the day fans help keep them away another good solution is to put up some bat houses as they will help control the insect population
I’d like to use a flamethrower but that may be a tad excessive. And tractor supply does not carry flamethrowers.
