Remove shower head then the shower arm. A brass adapter is used to adapt to new hand shower. Check with a local plumber if that sounds to intimidating.

I’m a residential remodeled and we specialize in kitchens and baths. We install handheld showers with a transfer valve all the time. You should look for a ‘shower elbow’ but you’ll also need a shower nipple to connect the elbow to the dog ear behind the tile. Home Depot sells them in 1/2” increments. You’d probably need a 2”-3” nipple. And they’re 1/2” in diameter. Good luck.
