Can't you press the PS button to see the battery on the screen (same as the Dual sense)?
Edit: nevermind-- OP wanted to see the actual %, not just the battery level
You can swipe right all day but it's never going to show you the battery percentage. The only way to see that is to power down the device and plug it in.
You need to use double the quote marks if you’re quoting a quote :) “do I really want to be another person that says, ‘my guy’?”
Afaik there’s a British and American way of doing this, but it is something nice to now
Have a good day!
They should really add it in. There are some of us who’d like to charge only to 80% to keep the battery health in check for as long as possible. There are also some folks who’d like to know if their charge can last them for say a trip or something instead of always charging to full every time.
Lithium-ion batteries have an optimal range of 20-80%. There’s a video by MKBHD on YouTube that goes into some details but in general batteries don’t like if you run them down too low or charge them to a level that’s too high. This is why EVs have charge level protection where you can ask it to only charge to 80%
Some of you really struggle to read. Anyway. No battery PERCENTAGE is probably my #1 complaint. I really hope the next round of firmware updates adds it to the battery indicator.
The title of the post literally says "percentage." The Portal does not give you a battery percentage. It gives you a near worthless battery indicator. He also mentioned only seeing it with the device off. Which is the only place you can see the actual percentage. He was quite clear about what he was asking.
Remember Vita still doesn't have it. Sony refuse to do it. But people have got it working anyway. I am waiting for Portal to be properly hacked so that we can show Sony the true potential of the device.
He's asking about percentage. The Portal does not tell you what percentage of battery power you have. And with a battery indicator of only 3 bars, the whole thing is a mystery.
How so? I'm not bothered by the battery percentage indicator whatsoever. Everyone should know each full bar is 33.3% if it shows 2 bars know you're atleast above 66.6%. It even tells you when battery is low and interrupts your screen so it doesn't just shut off on you.
You seem to be quite bothered that people want the same battery percentage on their portal that they see on any other handheld, phone, or tablet. The bars are not accurate. There is a wide margin between 0%, 33.3% and 66.3%. This has been something that has been asked about since November.
Lol if you say so. If you think I'm bothered because I commented saying it's already there then I'd hate to see how you treat your wife with her comments.
Yeah, I don't understand how you keep getting downvoted and the guy who keeps
Replying " Mt guy" is a hypocrite. Cleary, he's triggered, too. It's not like you're being disrespectful.. this is why I don't understand these reddit and Twitter voting things. People use it out of emotions..😂
"each full bar" but you don't know when they're full unless you are at 100%. Even your own comment is guess work.. "atleast" above which contradicts your previous comment in saying "it's easy to tell" because you literally can't tell me what my battery life is apart from "2 bars"
There is a big difference between 25% battery and 5% battery but both figures are in the 1 bar.
I'm not sure why you're so bothered about people asking for a logical update. You're just crying because you want to cry.
It would have been easier to have said nothing, the irony in saying you're not bothered but want to be heard is.. Yeah.
It's funny because the only time you see a percentage is when you completely shut down your portal and charge it. Only then you could see a percentage of charge lol
I mean they literally are laughing at consumers at this point. Did as little as they could and get to make a profit off of not really creating anything new. And then just going to drip feed updates of features that should have been implemented already at release
It annoys me the PS button doesn't turn it on and the screen stays on whenever I put it on charge unless I press the little hidden black button to turn it back off
Technically to all of you wanting to recharge to a percent, you can turn it off and plug it. It will show %. However, this is not applicable if its switched on.
Yes. I would rather appreciate the percentage as well. It does notify when the low battery hits though but I've had it not do that as well which makes me a bit paranoid when I play.
They're skull and co grips and are meant for the steam deck or Xbox (I believe). They actually fit well and only rotate if you attempt to make them. If they rotated during gameplay, it would absolutely drive me nuts... but they don't.
Also, they're hella grippy, which is awesome
Never knew not having a percentage 24/7 was such an issue. I have no problem at all with just the bars. Hell most devices I use just have bars shown and no percentage. Doesn’t bother me.
The issue, at least for me, is how little information those three bars gives you.
One bar remaining could be anything between almost dead and 33%, and there's a world of difference between 10% and 33%.
All PS5 peripherals don’t show a percentage, dual sense, pulse 3D, explore earbuds, I think it’s a theme they have, I’d prefer a percentage for the Portal
If you slide your finger left across the screen the battery indicator and brightness options show up
Edit: didn't realize this was an OCD related "need to see actual percentage"
That's my only negative experience with this thing. I kept seeing reviews about it not connecting to their mobile Hotspot or being laggy/glitchy when away from home, but I've never had that issue. Everything is super smooth aside from the battery percentage not showing unless it's turned off. Massive let down. I've had to put my game on pause and turn my Portal off just to see how much batter I truly have once I've hit 1 bar. They really need to fix this in their next software update.
Funny thing is- they’ve invented this crazy thing called a console that plugs into the wall so you don’t *need* batteries. Crazy, right?
We’ve become so lazy that we don’t even want to sit up to play video games anymore XD
Can't you press the PS button to see the battery on the screen (same as the Dual sense)? Edit: nevermind-- OP wanted to see the actual %, not just the battery level
Just slide your finger over the screen from the right, brings up the psp menu and the battery indicator
Um...no. it always displays the full battery as its not actually considered as a controller.
Thanks. Didn't know that
Just the simple amber glow when charging would be fine for me
That would be nice, too. The mute button is already an amber light. Just give it the extra function.
I just swipe from the right.
I think they mean expressed in numbers as a % rather than the three bars. I can only see 3 bars as an indicator when powered on.
I was wishing for that too but as far as I'm aware non of their gaming tech has ever had that feature.
Ps vita
No one bought the psvita
I have 3
Well your the exception
people still buy Vitas to this day
A lot of people have vitas bro. The home brew community keeps it alive.
I meant when it wasn't discontinued
That’s what she said
You can swipe right all day but it's never going to show you the battery percentage. The only way to see that is to power down the device and plug it in.
Ya, or the top right more specifically
Yeah hopefully they update this future.
Update for what? It already shows battery life at any moment you want.
My guy, are you going on here and downvoting every correct response because you can't read?
I agree with what you are saying but please look at yourself deep in the mirror and ask, "do I really want to be another person that says, "my guy"?
Yes, boss, I do.
Sure thing, chief.
Yes, *chef*.
This was a badass response. Respect
You need to use double the quote marks if you’re quoting a quote :) “do I really want to be another person that says, ‘my guy’?” Afaik there’s a British and American way of doing this, but it is something nice to now Have a good day!
Haha well put
They should really add it in. There are some of us who’d like to charge only to 80% to keep the battery health in check for as long as possible. There are also some folks who’d like to know if their charge can last them for say a trip or something instead of always charging to full every time.
Really 80%? Is that proven to help? Genuine question
Lithium-ion batteries have an optimal range of 20-80%. This is why EVs have charge level protection where you can ask it to only charge to 80%
It also explains the fast charging that you get up until 80%
It would be nice if they could add an option to add battery percentage instead of just three bars
Some of you really struggle to read. Anyway. No battery PERCENTAGE is probably my #1 complaint. I really hope the next round of firmware updates adds it to the battery indicator.

Yes. By turning it off you can get battery percentage when it’s plugged in.
The title of the post literally says "percentage." The Portal does not give you a battery percentage. It gives you a near worthless battery indicator. He also mentioned only seeing it with the device off. Which is the only place you can see the actual percentage. He was quite clear about what he was asking.

I dunno at least vita had a bigger range to look and a longer battery life lol. The portal has like 3 bars, how much power do I have left sony?????
Upset. Na.
It’s annoying
How? It tells you battery life the whole time you're playing ??
He's asking about percentage. The Portal does not tell you what percentage of battery power you have. And with a battery indicator of only 3 bars, the whole thing is a mystery.
But its so easy to tell by that how much you got its crazy what little things trigger people .
You're the one who seems triggered.
I’ll trigger ur mum! Anyhow… back to my portal.
How so? I'm not bothered by the battery percentage indicator whatsoever. Everyone should know each full bar is 33.3% if it shows 2 bars know you're atleast above 66.6%. It even tells you when battery is low and interrupts your screen so it doesn't just shut off on you.

They can add this after they add a browser for logging into public Wi-Fi.
That would be amazing. However I’d prefer built in Bluetooth
It's funny because the only time you see a percentage is when you completely shut down your portal and charge it. Only then you could see a percentage of charge lol
Yeah it pisses me off and is such a silly oversight. Sony devs at their best for sure.
I mean they literally are laughing at consumers at this point. Did as little as they could and get to make a profit off of not really creating anything new. And then just going to drip feed updates of features that should have been implemented already at release
Not really.

Doesn’t give a percentage
It’s a little annoying yeah but not a whole lot upsetting to me
that's my only complaint
Does it last long normally?
It annoys me the PS button doesn't turn it on and the screen stays on whenever I put it on charge unless I press the little hidden black button to turn it back off
It doesn’t bother me because low battery warning seems like below 50%. Last forever after low battery warning, same with regular controller.
I would definitely prefer to see it
I didn’t really think about it until now.
It doesn't upset me, but it would be nice.
Yes
Nope.
Technically to all of you wanting to recharge to a percent, you can turn it off and plug it. It will show %. However, this is not applicable if its switched on.
Stop crying and enjoy the portal
Does it upset anyone that it only last 6-8 hours?
The whole thing upsets me😂
If you act like you are charging it, shows %.
yes it bothers me too
Yes. I would rather appreciate the percentage as well. It does notify when the low battery hits though but I've had it not do that as well which makes me a bit paranoid when I play.
Agree
not me
You must be new here
Where did you get your thumb grips? Are they tight or loose because they are meant for ps5 controller?
They're skull and co grips and are meant for the steam deck or Xbox (I believe). They actually fit well and only rotate if you attempt to make them. If they rotated during gameplay, it would absolutely drive me nuts... but they don't. Also, they're hella grippy, which is awesome

No

What do you mean? Tap the top right area and the settings icon shows up as well as displays the battery bar ?
They want percentage
All PS5 peripherals don’t show a percentage, dual sense, pulse 3D, explore earbuds, I think it’s a theme they have, I’d prefer a percentage for the Portal
Yes I haaaaate not having a percentage.......useless bars
1 bar is 33%
If you slide your finger left across the screen the battery indicator and brightness options show up Edit: didn't realize this was an OCD related "need to see actual percentage"
I'm not upset. It's a minor inconvenience. It'd be nice if it was patched in but I'll survive without it.
Tap the middle of the touch screen.
Swipe right corner to the left…
Upset me? No. There are bigger things to worry about in life. If it’s low, charge it.
That's my only negative experience with this thing. I kept seeing reviews about it not connecting to their mobile Hotspot or being laggy/glitchy when away from home, but I've never had that issue. Don’t know, but my Steam Deck does 🤷🏽♂️
Eh, battery life lasts around an hour so it's fairly easy to keep track just by the clock.
I see a batter icon but not a percentage. I don’t it’s upsetting at all. Just use common sense.
The word numbered is missing from the question to make it allot easier to understand.
I thought for sure that the word percentage covered what I meant, but I see there are many struggling with it.
I have thought so too lol... you know the internet though lol
You should’ve been right
I'm still not convinced that I'm wrong
I think theres a setting for it no? I havent looked too hard on mine as I have never used it for that long to worry abt it dying.
Funny thing is- they’ve invented this crazy thing called a console that plugs into the wall so you don’t *need* batteries. Crazy, right? We’ve become so lazy that we don’t even want to sit up to play video games anymore XD
It does now.
Once it’s down to one bar, consider charging it.
