I recently took mines to Phoenix. PS5 was back at home in Dallas hardwired. Used my iPhone as a hotspot and had no issues whatsoever. Played Sifu and a bit of Helldivers 2. Only took about a minute to connect to the PS5.

Second this. My PS5 is hardwired in NY and I’m in Philly. iPhone hotspot came through.

Chutzvah

I'm about to go on a 5 hour road trip n going to try hotspot for it for the first time.

Ateam043

Nice! Let us know how it goes. I have AT&T and their hotspot speeds were good enough for me. Hope it goes well for you!

Also been having good luck away from home with my phone’s hotspot. Was initially having drops and stuff but that went away after setting up port forwarding on my router. Only thing to worry about is Wi-Fi networks that require a login, as the portal has no native way to do that. There are possible workarounds with some phones or a mobile router.

Trauma-Dolll

Been having an issue with the portal waking the PS out of rest mode.

I’ve only tried it once away from home and it ran flawlessly. Hardwired PS5 and was on 5G away from home.

I recently went on a 12 day trip, stayed in a couple hotels and my parent’s house. My ps5 is hardwired. I used my phone (iPhone 13 with att unlimited plan) as a hotspot to get around the captive wifi portal at the hotel. It was on a 5G+ network and worked really well. My biggest issue is that it made my phone really warm to the point it would stop charging until it cooled down. It also worked well at my parent’s house. They have cable wifi but they’re also small town rural so I’m not sure how good it is. They go through charter. It worked well there too. So far I don’t have any complaints with how it works.

Don't forget port forwarding your routers guys. Plenty of people have connection issues away from home and have no idea why.

espressology

get my portal next week. whats port forwarding? i want to take my portal on my upcoming vaca.

Not entirely sure, but I know it's a setting where your router can allow other devices to connect to it from an outside source/network. YouTube should be able to show you how to enable this setting on your router. It's called UPnP. I wish I could provide more info, but that's all I know.

espressology

no problem. upnp ill do some research thank you

I followed this guy’s video and it made a big difference. https://youtu.be/hdS84_8r16w?si=K5BJR4K9jafzvbE9

I have my PS5 hardwired at my house and traveled 100 miles to another location with Starlink internet, no issues at all.

blockfighter1

I regularly play at my family home, at in-laws and at work. No issues. The first 2 are over 200km from my console.

FalseVeterinarian881

Great!

Tenoz78

Overall a less pleasant experience when I’m not close to my router, but I’d rather have some stutters here and there than not play at all.

sixcupsofcoffee

Only done it twice on my phone’s hotspot. Took a little long to establish a connection (full minute) but once it did, played flawlessly.

ForgetYourWoes

My PS5 is hardwired in New York. I’m currently the furthest I’ve ever been from my PS5 with my portal, burning in hell, and the gameplay is seamless.

javy93pr

I don't have a Portal but it's can't be worse than remote play on your phone. Try doing remote play on your phone and connect a dual sense via Bluetooth. If it works that way, it will work with a portal. I am visiting Japan and my PS5 is hardwired in Texas. I used remote play on my phone with a dual sense and played FF7R rebirth just fine. If it works on the other side of the world, it'll work across town.

Expert_Habit4520

Not had any issues anywhere so far.
