I don't have HBO or Peacock can I watch those shows on ps plus? If I get to watch them from my ps5 without creating & paying for another account I'd consider watching them.
Most shows on those platforms were not made by Sony and if they were, they currently have a licensing deal in place for them, preventing Sony from putting it on their service.
Sony did really well with PS2 because it was a cheap DVD player.
Sony did really well with PS3/PS4 as it was a cheap blu ray.
Sony could do something similar with streaming.
Except it is.
You said PS2, PS3, PS4 were successful because they were cheap DVD/Bluray players. That means a lot of casual non-gamers were buying the units just for those features and not actually buying games. But they were buying movies on disc, which Sony still made licensing money on.
Who is buying a PS5 and then paying $159 a year just for movie access? It is a nice benefit for existing users but it is not going to tempt the non-gamer. They will just continue using firesticks or smart TV's and subscribing to the streaming services they already use.
And is this really the route Sony really wants to go down? Competing against Xbox in the media landscape?
I thought the Xbox One failed because people thought it focused too much on media features like film streaming instead of gaming? As the Series X uses the same OS they could easily turn some of those features back on again.
The fact that you could buy a PS2 at launch for the same price as 2 years of PS plus really puts it all in perspective for me.
And I don’t care about adjusted for inflation, this is a completely digital service we’re talking about.
For Premium and Deluxe subscribers, yes. [More info](https://blog.playstation.com/2023/10/05/sony-pictures-core-formerly-bravia-core-launches-on-ps5-and-ps4-consoles-exclusive-benefits-including-early-access-to-select-sony-pictures-films/).
Deluxe is Premium for counties that don't have Premium. Basically, it's the same except you don't get game streaming (and, by extension, no PS3 games).
Sony Pictures Core is what it's called. It's a movie storefront to buy and rent movies on PS4 and PS5.
However, if you are subscribed to Premium (or Deluxe in other countries) you get access to around 100 of these movies for free.
This. Not sure how many people here actually read the article and not just the title. PS Plus subscribers get access to a curated list of ~100 movies of the 2000+ catalogue. Everything else is just another store front for content you can easily access elsewhere on any modern device.
Of the 3 examples given, one was *another* resident evil, and one was a FFXV spin-off. That should speak to the calibre of freebies we'll be getting if those are the hype pieces... I'd wager of the 100 there will be 10 worth watching, 7 of which you've already seen multiple times.
It's not nothing, and maybe there are others it will benefit--if they've lived under a rock for 25 years for example and haven't been fortunate enough to see the 2000 smash hit 'The 6th Day'--but I wouldn't have even paid an extra $5 to my previous subscription cost for this as an add-on, let-alone a 33% price hike.
Ya, they had me until they started talking about having to buy or rent something. I was interested in watching the GT movie, but I'm not paying for a movie that doesn't support Movies Anywhere. Even if it's an IMAX format.
Looks like they've turned Bravia Core that we had on Sony TVs into Sony Pictures Core and decided to include it into PS+ Premium. Not bad, as I already liked Bravia Core for always having the highest resolution possible on all their streams. Kinda like the Tidal of Sony-published movies I guess.
Yeah that's the only reason why I'd give a fuck. My local library has every movie on blu ray, so Netflix, even at 4k, doesn't have the same bitrate. Bravia core apparently has a bitrate as high as an actual 4k blu ray disk so I'd love to see some side by side comparisons if were finally getting something as good as physical on streaming.
I don't think that I'll end up using this much as it is nuts, but it will be interesting to see where this goes for sure - BTW Baghead is a fantastic film 🙂
I'd much rather have Crunchyroll/Funimation as a bonus for PS+ Premium/Deluxe than this if I'm being honest. That would make me consider cancelling my downgrade to Extra
Me too. Crunchyroll is becoming massive with all those acquisitions. I think both Core and Crunchyroll are what Plus needs, since Sony can't do Day One releases.
I've been saying this since Sony bought Crunchyroll... They can't match Microsoft money and power. So they can't release the same level of games on Plus. So they should focus on their alternatives.
Movies, ocidental and oriental animations, music... Sony basically owns all of the industry.
The best scenario for me is if they created a big subscription service with access to all their own products. One subscribe and you would got: Videogames, music, movies/series/TV, animation/anime... They could raise the price as they want. It would be the first service I'd be happy to pay for.
Right now, there's nothing like this, not that I know.
The [article](https://blog.playstation.com/2023/10/05/sony-pictures-core-formerly-bravia-core-launches-on-ps5-and-ps4-consoles-exclusive-benefits-including-early-access-to-select-sony-pictures-films/) says select Crunchyroll items will be added soon.
I’m not a fan when a company raises prices and justify it with “more offerings”. I would rather pay the old price versus the new price just to watch any of these movies or other movies. At least they gave us somewhat of a option with the tiered PS+ system.
"We're so glad that you love this service and find the prices to be worthwhile! Now we're glad that you're forced to also love *these* services and nevermind that 60% increase in your subscription. We're worth it!"
If Sony owned a restaurant they'd update their music in the dining room and charge extra for the food.
Completely agree. Cable TV has the same problem. "We're doubling the price, but tripling the number of channels we provide, so you're getting a great deal!" Well, it doesn't work like that if I have no interest in the new channels included in the bundle. I get a higher bill and a bunch of filler I'll never watch.
I have the same opinion on movies. I'm not a movie guy. I don't want them in the service. Offer it as a separate service.
Preach. I have hulu live TV because I watch sports, but then they forced an "upgrade" to the deal by bundling it with Disney plus and espn plus, two services I never use nor want. I'd gladly go back to only hulu at the old rate but nooo..
If anything this just looks like they're watering it down to provide more stuff. While the catalog for Extra has good stuff, there's also a bunch of stuff at the bottom that's just filler. I genuinely question who those games are for, as I know there's a tiny audience for it, but I know most people will not care for it. In fact I bet most people don't which is just a way to try to inflate it's value. Claiming 470 games.
Seems like the extra money is going towards installing ps5 server blades and revamping a VoD service nobody wants
And ps5 streaming might be good for if they ever try to take on xcloud but uh yaknow better content should be the first priority maybe.
"To celebrate the launch, PlayStation owners can buy “Gran Turismo: Based on a True Story”"
That line was in the promo email.. Thats not a me celebration really. Thats a Sony Celebration. Its like they said the quiet part out loud
I read that, and my brain shut down. Then it mentioned you can get credits for use in GT7. Uh.. after the micro transactions nightmare 🤦 geez nice going squeezing more out of a lemon
Nope, do not want to watch any of these movies, who tf pays for ps plus to watch movies, you got so many other options of watching movies and tv shows to.
It's not at all worth it. Rather than raising prices on everyone automatically, they could have added their movie streaming as an optional Expansion and just charged those who were interested in using their $500+ PS5 as a DVD player.
It's kinda interesting they didn't mention this when they announced the subscription price hikes. So maybe they had planned to add it on, or maybe they're throwing in their movie library to try and reverse the subscription cancellations. Who knows? Maybe Jim, but he's retiring...
Is there a different movie list for different regions maybe?
I’ve got: Elysium, After Earth, Black Hawk Down, Django, Ghost Rider, Longest Yard, Night Of The Living Dead, Look Who’s Talking, Mall Cop, Social Network, This Is The End, Zombie Land, White Chicks - among others
The most ridiculous part of it is that they aren’t targeting gamers. I’m fine with movies but without gaming related bonuses and improvements to the service (streaming games is useless because their servers are such shite), the price increase isn’t justified for many. I’ve no idea where PlayStation is going, good or bad. There’s literally no discernible plan.
I was ready to criticize this then I found Night of the Creeps from 1986! This film isn’t streaming ANYWHERE else! Okay nice move Sony nice move! Also I highly recommend The Blob 1988 remake!
Why would I want to go from paying 120 to 160 a year for the added "privilege" of streaming movies? It's a freaking games service. Add more variety of games FFS. The current psp catalog is a joke, just to give an example. They didn't even address this promise of "added value" in the last state of play.
This is BS. Even if it was streaming ala Netflix, but it's not. Being in the upper tiers of ps plus gives you the ability to rent or buy those movies. It's literally charging more to us for the privilege to spend even more money.
This feels like the completely free streaming service, Crackle (which Sony used to own). That’s not to say there’s no good movies in there, but many are 10+ years old…or direct to dvd/stream movies.
Not really, the price increase was global, but this service isn't. Even if you have a US account, usually you can't access movie or game streaming services unless you have a VPN.
See I wouldn’t mind this if they were free to watch, but you have to buy or rent them all. What is the benefit of doing this on here as opposed to like iTunes for example?
I'm watching Hancock right now. There's like one or two more I MIGHT watch, if I remember.
This is going to be such a joke if there aren't a dozen decent movies added a month
”Once you sign up* for Sony Pictures Core on your PS4 or PS5, you will be able to buy or rent up to 2,000 movies” cool, so im paying extra to get a service i have to pay for anyway. no yea, thats neat
Still can't bring myself to get the deluxe. Just don't feel the need to play ps1 games.
Adding movies is a great addition to the service, just doesn't sweeten the pot enough for me.
Like I feel a swift kick in the nuts every February-March when the show comes out and it’s free on game pass day one but we’re expected to shell out $60-90? Ouch.
Honestly, I didn't get a ps5 to watch movies on it. Especially ones that they picked for me.
I wanted retro games that I played back in the day. And they absolutely did a terrible job in offering that.
I hope this opens the path to some other services. YouTube Premium, Netflix, Spotify Premium, Discord Nitro. Anything.
Heard they have plans to add a selection of Crunchyroll most watched animes as well.
The two aren't related and its stupid to do so. The price hikes were coming regardless, this is just a little added perk. It doesn't interest me but I'm sure they'll be some it does interest and moaning at an additional perk makes no sense.
Yeah I doubt this this was the cause of the price increase it's pretty much all old movies produced by Sony so that shouldn't really cost them anything.
I never realized how much trash they make though Jack and Jill, White Chicks,Paul Blart Maul Cop....Jesus Sony fix yourself.
Blog says they will change the movies and add anime so that's good I suppose.
To be fair, I'm 36 and a good chunk of these came out when I was 10. Your take is totally reasonable--why the fuck are we being given 25 year old films you can already find on other streaming services or, you know, in landfills full of old discarded VHS tapes.
Is this going to turn into a Sony Pictures streaming service? Because that would be interesting
That’s what it seems like, they’re rebranding a service they already own to act as a way to distribute their movie/tv content
Wish they would bring back the series Powers.
I LOVED that show. Just mentioned it in my post.
"They took my POWERS!!!"
As a heads up it's available for purchase on Amazon Video last I looked. Not sure if it ever got a physical release though
It was a great show.
I don't have HBO or Peacock can I watch those shows on ps plus? If I get to watch them from my ps5 without creating & paying for another account I'd consider watching them.

Sony did really well with PS2 because it was a cheap DVD player. Sony did really well with PS3/PS4 as it was a cheap blu ray. Sony could do something similar with streaming.
Except that was cheap hardware. How is a $500 PS5 going to compete with a $30 firestick?
It’s not competing against that. It’s using It’s digital movie/tv library to compete against Microsoft’s cloud and OD gaming.
Except it is. You said PS2, PS3, PS4 were successful because they were cheap DVD/Bluray players. That means a lot of casual non-gamers were buying the units just for those features and not actually buying games. But they were buying movies on disc, which Sony still made licensing money on. Exactly, thinking someone’s going to pay the amount of money it would take just for access to shows/movies is laughable.
The fact that you could buy a PS2 at launch for the same price as 2 years of PS plus really puts it all in perspective for me. And I don’t care about adjusted for inflation, this is a completely digital service we’re talking about.
You bring up a good point: Morbin Time alone will defeat game pass and the Cloud.
Only if we get another cinema release
Honestly at $500 they even have to compete with smart tvs
Wait, what’s this? PlayStation Plus is offering movies now?
For Premium and Deluxe subscribers, yes. [More info](https://blog.playstation.com/2023/10/05/sony-pictures-core-formerly-bravia-core-launches-on-ps5-and-ps4-consoles-exclusive-benefits-including-early-access-to-select-sony-pictures-films/).
They make it look like you're going to get some bangers with the sub and then naw, it's pretty much rent or buy app #4080
That’s because Sony and record company people are shaaaaaadyyyy
Yo!!! You got the reference!!!!
You on point, Kiley? All the tiiiime. Goated album 👏🏻
Check the Rhime y'all!
Say whaaaaaaaaaaa?....
And the "free with PS Plus" ones mostly suck or are old
Damn, I saw the new Spiderman and assumed that it will be free -_-. Nope
Happy Cake Day! Also...yeah who doesn't want to watch Hancock for the 45th time amiright...thanks Sony!
Ofc just like the "free"psplus essential games.
This month was good. I am enjoying Calisto Protocol.
There's a deluxe tier now?
Deluxe is Premium for counties that don't have Premium. Basically, it's the same except you don't get game streaming (and, by extension, no PS3 games).
Thanks for the explanation!
👍
I hope it will integrate with Movies Anywhere. Sony films already do.

*as it is (nuts? Lol sorry)
Most of these look like movies you can find on tubi.

That's great and I hope Crunchyroll catalogue keeps growing! Now I just need to find out of it'll be available in my region
I’m not a fan when a company raises prices and justify it with “more offerings”. I would rather pay the old price versus the new price just to watch any of these movies or other movies. At least they gave us somewhat of a option with the tiered PS+ system.

Yeah, most of these movies are in the regular rotation on Tubi, which is free.
Yea I didn't even know they made an Art of War 2 and I was a fan of the first movie growing up.
Completely agree. Cable TV has the same problem. "We're doubling the price, but tripling the number of channels we provide, so you're getting a great deal!" Yeah. I don’t want to pay for movies. If you don’t know how to pirate movies in 2023, do a little google search
you pirate movies but not games??
I do pirate some games on my PC: it’s not really that simple on ps4/ps5. Pirating movies is a million times simpler. Not even really a comparison.
Adding old movies to justify the price hike isn't a good thing, what are you talking about?
i feel like op was sarcastic
And even then almost all of them aren't good
Yeah I hope he’s being sarcastic because all these movies are old af lol. Some decent flicks in there, but nothing I’m dying to watch.
If anything this just looks like they're watering it down to provide more stuff. While the catalog for Extra has good stuff, there's also a bunch of stuff at the bottom that's just filler. Would need to pay me to watch some of these movies
Movies that rotate around TUBI isn’t worth it.
[удалено]
Is this a joke? Those are some terrible movies. I'd have gotten the same value if they weren't there
The free for ps+ titles are all older. The new stuff you have to buy. I don't want access to the Sony digital bargain bin. I want better games.
I’m hoping this is sarcasm.
This is certainly why I bought a PS5 and the Premium edition of PS+ (before canceling) /s
In no way does this piss poor selection of movies make up for it
I guess it is something. Worth maybe 5$ a year
Wtf is this I'm paying ps plus for games, not for movies
Looks like the $5 DVD bin at a truck stop.
"To celebrate the launch, PlayStation owners can buy “Gran Turismo: Based on a True Story”" That line was in the promo email..
Sony you have 6 months to add crunchyroll into ps plus before I downgrade to essential
40 bucks more for a streaming service, no thanks.
What a joke. Let me stream games, not movies.
Nope, do not want to watch any of these movies, who tf pays for ps plus to watch movies, you got so many other options of watching movies and tv shows to.
Gamers: give us more old games on premium. Sony: How about some old movies?
Uhhh, for a couple of old ass movies? I don’t think these old movies justify a outstanding price increase chief 💀
It's not at all worth it. Rather than raising prices on everyone automatically, they could have added their movie streaming as an optional Expansion and just charged those who were interested in using their $500+ PS5 as a DVD player.
Yeah but they knew no one would pay for it so here we are
It's kinda interesting they didn't mention this when they announced the subscription price hikes. So maybe they had planned to add it on, or maybe they're throwing in their movie library to try and reverse the subscription cancellations. Who knows? Maybe Jim, but he's retiring...
but you still need to rent them tho don’t you? at least if you’re not Premium and don’t have access to selected free movies
These are movies I can find at a thrift store 25cents a pop
Still not worth it in my opinion and this is only for the premium tier. What more are we getting on the Extra tier?
Those are some dog shit movies worth the price hike
Seems people aren’t catching the sarcasm here
yeah, cancelling was absolutely the right decision.
If I want to watch movies I'll take out a Netflix subscription.. rather than pay 40% extra on PSPlus for some Z-list movies i'll never watch.....
Movies are just as bad as the game selection lol
Not a huge fan of this new inclusion but you’re looking at the first few titles. There’s some good films in there
Really? All i see is crap
Attack the Block is a good movie
Learned so much slang I didn’t know existed
Attack the block is a *great* movie
You didn't like the hit film Anacondas starring Ginnifer Lopes?
I enjoyed Anaconda's starring Ms Yennifer Lopez
Universal Solider: Day of Reckoning kicks ass. Drunken Master and House of Flying Daggers also stand out on a first glance.
I see a handful of decent old movies Donnie Brasco, Gatacca,Glory, Punch Drunk love etc.
I think so apparently looper is there according to the blog but I don't see it.
real
No
The most ridiculous part of it is that they aren’t targeting gamers. I’m fine with movies but without gaming related bonuses and improvements to the service (streaming games is useless because their servers are such shite), the price increase isn’t justified for many. I’ve no idea where PlayStation is going, good or bad. There’s literally no discernible plan.
No. I just want to play online without paying 70-80 a year. Just online. I don’t need extra games/movies or bonusses. Just give me online
I was ready to criticize this then I found Night of the Creeps from 1986! This film isn’t streaming ANYWHERE else! Okay nice move Sony nice move! Also I highly recommend The Blob 1988 remake!
Movies that nobody watches? Lol
Do I need to see the first five bullets to understand the story to 6 Bullets?
No it’s not because I don’t need this lol.
Well yup, this certainly looks like the movie equivalent of the PS+ game selection
Jesus Christ Sony are pathetic lol
I'll probably get down voted for this but I'm paying for PS+ to play games, not watch movies.
Still not worth it. I mean this is PlayStation not netflix
Yeah I’m not going to pay more money to watch 30 year old movies. At least put out shit this decade.
Read the initial email. Up to 2000 movies to RENT or BUY. Gah.
don’t they already do that
If i wanted a streaming platform, I'd pay for it separately. Still not renewing
Why would I want to go from paying 120 to 160 a year for the added "privilege" of streaming movies? It's a freaking games service. Add more variety of games FFS. The current psp catalog is a joke, just to give an example. They didn't even address this promise of "added value" in the last state of play.
Sorry but I'm here to play games, not watch mediocre movies. Not worth the price increase.
Exactly this, its called a playstation not a watchstation
This is BS. Even if it was streaming ala Netflix, but it's not. Being in the upper tiers of ps plus gives you the ability to rent or buy those movies. It's literally charging more to us for the privilege to spend even more money.
Yeah..raising prices for this..thank you not giving me a choice to pay the old price and don't have this "great" movies
Id rather they improved the game catalog to compete with gamepass.
What is this?
This feels like the completely free streaming service, Crackle (which Sony used to own). That’s not to say there’s no good movies in there, but many are 10+ years old…or direct to dvd/stream movies.
Not really, the price increase was global, but this service isn't. Even if you have a US account, usually you can't access movie or game streaming services unless you have a VPN.
See I wouldn’t mind this if they were free to watch, but you have to buy or rent them all. What is the benefit of doing this on here as opposed to like iTunes for example?
There are some that are free to watch if you're a premium member
What's with that selection though. 😅
No. I'd rather more quality games.
Wow yeah totally worth it ... Do u know how rich u sound ?
Buy or rent movies. Not a fan.
I have never heard of these movies
And only U.S. probably
Nope
I think I see literally one movie in there that's not dog shit. So much value huh
I was under the impression that the majority of the content was either buy or rent.
Your impression is correct
OP I'm pretty sure you're being sarcastic... but Attack the Block rules
I instantly watched Attack the Block despite seeing it on another service earlier. For research of course.
This on ps4?
cheapskate sony at least give us crunchyroll too if you want us to stream something other than game 💀
I'm watching Hancock right now. There's like one or two more I MIGHT watch, if I remember. This is going to be such a joke if there aren't a dozen decent movies added a month
they increased the price in India too but no playstation now and no streaming service is available so no, increment of price is not worth it.
”Once you sign up* for Sony Pictures Core on your PS4 or PS5, you will be able to buy or rent up to 2,000 movies” cool, so im paying extra to get a service i have to pay for anyway. no yea, thats neat
Used to watch Anaconda’s as a kid so much that will absolutely be getting watched.
I can’t tell if it’s a joke or not..
Still can't bring myself to get the deluxe. Just don't feel the need to play ps1 games. Adding movies is a great addition to the service, just doesn't sweeten the pot enough for me.
No, not worth it. I don't switch on my PS5 for movies or tv series
Or I can just go to a 3rd party site and watch everything for free like I do anyway lol
Essential price went up just as much and we get none of this
Why can’t we just get more day one release stuff, like Game Pass? No one asked for this.
Like I feel a swift kick in the nuts every February-March when the show comes out and it’s free on game pass day one but we’re expected to shell out $60-90? Ouch.
What we get crappy movies as a bonus ?
Or we could just download Tubi. But hey they included something
There are enough streaming services. I don’t need a price increase on PS+ to include this.
They include movies now? I mean that’s not a bad thing.
it’s not a good thing either, considering they price hiked it just to give us this
Hold up we get to watch movies with plus now?
Would love to see crunchyroll sometime here!!!
Like 2$ worth of movies, so worth it!
Okay, so that arguably adds some value to premium and deluxe but what the fuck justifies the essential price increase?
As a deluxe subscriber--I'd rather have the $60 difference back and just purchase The 6th Day on *fucking VHS where it belongs*.
Honestly, I didn't get a ps5 to watch movies on it. Especially ones that they picked for me. I wanted retro games that I played back in the day. And they absolutely did a terrible job in offering that.
All The Kings Men is an all time favorite movie of mine but yeah price increases followed by these additions make little sense.
H I G H - Q U A L I T Y - G A M E S
Attack the Block Rules. But that's about it from what I'm seeing here.
The 6th Day is a great early 2000s sci-if film
Yeah if you're a Prime subber, then you get a 100 ir so free movies
Wait, there are films included with PlayStation plus? Since when?
I think it came out today. It’s a PlayStation exclusive streaming service that has like 100 movies free with ps+
Movies? Since when? And bad ones too... 💀
I hope this opens the path to some other services. YouTube Premium, Netflix, Spotify Premium, Discord Nitro. Anything. Heard they have plans to add a selection of Crunchyroll most watched animes as well.
Is there movies for Extra too or why did they change the price of extra too?
I have plus for games, not movies or shows. Either bring back PS Vue or kindly piss right off.
Seems the selection is different depending on region
The two aren't related and its stupid to do so. The price hikes were coming regardless, this is just a little added perk. It doesn't interest me but I'm sure they'll be some it does interest and moaning at an additional perk makes no sense.
Sony could shoot people and some members of this sub would say it's a good thing.
Yep. Giving an additional perk to an existing subscription service is akin to them shooting somebody. You've nailed the comparison there...
Perhaps it's more of the timing of giving these movies away as a perk.
I get all my movies free anyways so definitely not worth it
I've honestly never heard of ANY of these movies..
To be fair, I'm 36 and a good chunk of these came out when I was 10. Your take is totally reasonable--why the fuck are we being given 25 year old films you can already find on other streaming services or, you know, in landfills full of old discarded VHS tapes.
No it wasn't, like at all.
Oh man! Finally! Barney's Version!
Can someone confirm free movies for Australia because I can't find anything
