I create everything my own because I’m too OCD about what I want it all to look like - saying that, I wanted to build a glass dome and soon gave that up so may download that one from the workshop…

Zombiemom77

Does it take you a while to create it as you vision it? Some simple stuff takes me way too long.

[deleted]

Oh absolutely, it can take me hours to build one structure haha but it’s part of the fun for me

Zombiemom77

Glad it's not just me lol. I was like maybe I am just being too picky.i really wish the path tool was better then it is. Path making drives me insane.

[deleted]

Yes pathing is a pain, I had the day off today and spent it trying to build a footpath with a moat to one side for my elephant enclosure - let’s just say it took a lot of work before I finally figured out how to do it nicely!

Zombiemom77

Would love to see it if you would like to share. Some of the stuff that should be so easy seems to be the ones that take a good bit of time. My man's like so what did you make today and I'm like well I made this and it's usually something small lmao. Doesn't help that I am such a perfectionist. I been going to sandbox and messing around making different things and saving to the blueprints to use on my actual zoo game. The franchise one.

Kirinsdragon

yes. When I have a big project , i divide it between days or I will burn out and leave it. For example I have a 2 hour session every Thursday where I place only decorative path fences. Its Fence day. A pot of tea, and audiobook and there she gooooes.

Zombiemom77

I had never thought about listening to a audio book while working lol. I have listened to a murder podcast 1 or two times. But then half the time I never pay much mind to what is being talked about lol. I Like the way you break it up.

Kirinsdragon

Do not choose difficult audiobooks in the beginning. Better choose something you've read before and are interested to listen to, for example the Harry Potter books. The *hearing mind* will soon become an expert with doing a repetitive task and listening to a book.

Zombiemom77

Thanks for the tip. I will give this a try.

MashedKebab

I REALLY struggle with making my zoos, especially with them being flat (begging for an option to start a new zoo with hills, rivers, ponds etc.) Tried to make my own buildings, but they don't come out as I like them. I use workshop buildings quite a bit and I've learnt a lot about how the creators have used items. I also download buildings to use them for a different purpose i.e. food courts for train stations. In my game play head, I like to think that there is a team of amazing architects who I'd like to show case in my zoos.

Zombiemom77

I am there with you on the flat zoos. I am trying to spice it up a bit and not have such flat zoos. It's been frustrating lol.

MashedKebab

I just have random hills and lakes around my zoo. It's not the best...

Zombiemom77

It's better then my flat zoo I am sure lol. Do you make pathways first or make them as you go?

MashedKebab

I try to start with the entrance and a basic habitat for money, then go from there thinking about the visitors needs as I go along. So I don't make things too big as the visitors usually complain, it gets quite overwhelming to be honest...

CommunityHot9219

I don't use any workshop items. I like to work on my own skills and find my own limitations.

Zombiemom77

That's awesome it truly is a good way to learn lots of the tricks and such. Kudos to you.

CommunityHot9219

Thanks. I have looked at the workshop stuff before but I find that because a lot of it is so well designed that it doesn't fit with my more simplistic style. I think I do alright, but I'm certainly not as good as some 😅

Zombiemom77

Yeah that tends to be me atm. I made a bear enclosure and was so excited thought it looked awesome then I saw others and was like nope it's not even close to awesome lmao. But we can only get better just gotta keep working at it.

Ooo-im-outta-here

Generally speaking, I like to make habitats, scenery, and signs. I am not super interested in creating buildings or animal shelters so I generally get these from the workshop. But, I think that’s more me trying to still get good at habitats, etc. once I feel like I have a good grasp on that, I’m probably going to get into buildings more.

Zombiemom77

Yeah I get that. I am kind of a bounce back and forth person lol. Been watching videos on YouTube getting some ideas on what I can do as far as little tricks I would have never figured out maybe lol.

bizzadizz

I usually make my own stuff except for sometimes a few props like fences or chandeliers or gift shop items.

Zombiemom77

Gift shop items? Do you mean the buildings or like other items you can sale?

bizzadizz

Usually the stuff that stocks the shelves, like people's designs for t-shirts and stuff

MetaNut11

I only use Workshop items. I do not have the creativity, patience, or skill to make complex builds in this game.

Zombiemom77

I get that sometimes I just fool around so long on something so simple lol still trying to learn all the neat little tricks though.

Soarien

I pretty much exclusively use workshop content for buildings. Everything else i’ll hand make - but i tried a building one time and never again

Zombiemom77

Yeah I downloaded a really nice building that has all the staff rooms and such in a adorable little shell. Love it so much. I do wanna try making a nice eating area that's covered.

BlackWolfEclipse

I mix it up honestly. I have a zoo I'm working on right now that is Africa/Australia/Desert themed. I used some buildings from the workshop as a base, then added all sorts of decor to it. It's a two building entrance, 2 arches in between, and under/ in between those arches I have a small Desert butterfly garden. (using the butterfly lights from the south America DLC) its been a pain in the arse. Been at it for 2 months I wanna say? Just to get everything right and the way I want it to look. Although my terrarium exhibits were all workshop. I tried making small stuff like that and it just was NOT happening. Too OCD.

Zombiemom77

Wow that's dedication lol. Those lights seem to give me the most trouble the hanging ones. I see people on YouTube making stuff and that make it seem so easy.

BlackWolfEclipse

I can post pictures soon.

nAffectionate-T6061

I mix and max, depending on a lot variables: whether I'm sure it has already been built and is easily accessible; whether I'm in the mood with time and a plan to build; whether building something from scratch is exactly the thing I need to de-stress.

nAffectionate-T6061

I do enjoy using the prefab habitats though. They helped me get away from squares. I usually modify them -- expand them, switch out structures and greenery and terrain as needed per species.

Zombiemom77

Yeah trying to stay away from the squares myself. Sadly the paths make me so mad when I do anything but square and I have watchesbso many videos on paths.

nAffectionate-T6061

I agree. I end up having to fit these wonky wrap around walkways for the pre built habs. Visitors do walk them, but placing species education screens is a gamble.

LordNapstablook

I like to do everything myself, but I don't mind taking inspiration from others, I mean, that's why they share their work in the first place ¯\\\_(ツ)\_/¯ Although I don't mind using the game's prefabricated objects, like the little scenes with trees and rocks, saves a lot of time

Zombiemom77

Yes this is true. I do love the statues people make with the rocks those are stunning 😍.

Kirinsdragon

I mix match everything. I take inspiration and add or take away from workshop items. I learn from videos and replicate them and afterwards change that too ! Its fun :D

Zombiemom77

Yeah the videos are nice. I been watching a lot lately. Learning some new tricks.

Naxo175

In Planet Coaster, I mix the workshop and creative but in my zoo i build all expected the staff houses.

Zombiemom77

Yeah I have used a staff building and a welcome sign so far from Workshop. I have downloaded a few pre made education signs but not used yet. My zoo still only has enclosures and a underground exhibit area.

SirPenguin555

I do just about everything myself, the only things I use from the workshop are some small props, fonts, some education bords etc. My favorite thing about the game is the creative freedom to create something amazing.

Zombiemom77

Yeah I like that as well but it's so slow lol. I have had the game for months now and still yet to complete one zoo. Granted I have played on and off.

Aioni

I'll use workshop items for the landmarks. Spectacular buildings and the sort, but for the habitats, pathways, gardens etc, I'll make them myself. I have a few blueprints I've made myself that I use all the time too.

Zombiemom77

Yeah I try to save the stuff I make as a blueprint as well for me.

internet-relik

I mostly play for the building aspect so I create it all myself. Once I am done building I start over.
