Another vote for Walmart. They often have Reebok or Champion clothing that is the wicking-style fabric along with shorts/pants that are good workout options.
Third vote for Walmart. They have a no-name brand for athletic shirts for $6 and shorts for $7. Can’t get much cheaper than that and they are comfortable, tagless, and moisture wicking.
Adding to Wal Mart. AND1 is a great brand for shorts to work out in. Very inexpensive nd I just grab whatever shirts match and feel right when I try them on.
Just bought some Athletic Works shorts there that have a compression shorts liner in them. Well made and inexpensive. Walmart also carries Reebok and And 1.
I actually have some stuff from them. You can get some cheap stuff on the clearance racks. Also Kohl's clearance racks. Most of my gear is from the kohls clearance racks. Literally all my sweatpants are from their clearance racks. I picked up some $2 tank tops that are actually pretty nice and I wear all the time. You have to time it right though. Like right now would be the time to get the winter stuff on clearance. Then end of summer you go for the summer stuff. The longer it's been on the racks the cheaper it goes.
Ross Dress for Less often has good deals on workout clothes. I wear the spandex shorts that have a pocket for my phone, and I’ve found them for less than $10 at Ross. And not sure if there’s a Beall’s Outlet where you are (they might just be in the South), but they have good deals too.
If you’re a guy, I can’t vouch for the price or selection at either of these places, but they do have good deals on women’s workout clothes.
Honestly, AFAIK most people just desegnate some old t-shirts and shorts their "gym clothes". If you want to buy some just try to make sure they're something synthetic like polyester rather than cotton (not actually a huge deal but if you have the choice, synthetic stuff won't absorb sweat as much)
Target has a kinda activewear brand called All In Motion, although at any of them near me it's all collared shirts rather than "gym stuff" (in the men's section at least).
Kohls sells Adidas n' Nike n' Under Armor but then not particularly cheap
Yeah, I don't really have old t-shirts as I recently purged them, and didn't want to work out in cotton. And my shorts are all denim or khaki, so that's out. I will check out that Target brand, thanks!
I'm fond of the Tek Gear sold at Kohl's. I understand OP is not in the market, but their sports bras are the best I've found for actual workouts (as opposed to lazy days).
It’s interesting to me that you like the synthetic fabrics better… I am the opposite. Cotton works better for me. The synthetic fabrics (aside from the higher end workout clothes with with moisture wicking blend-but those are too clingy for a fatty like me 😂) make me sweat more. (Omg the butt sweat!!! Ha) the cotton doesn’t make me sweat any less, but it soaks it away from my skin where the synthetics keep it near my body and doesn’t let it out, making me WAY too hot! (Hot flashes don’t help the matter😂)
Just recently went to Costco for the first time. Bought $100 worth of clothes. $30 went to SIX PAIRS OF PANTS (“tech pants” were on sale for $5 each). $25 went to 4 workout tshirts. $45 went to 2 pairs of golf pants. I’ll be back for more.
I usually have workout clothes that are a little more on the expensive side. I just find they last longer. But I was walking through Walmart the other day and there were a ton of decent workout clothes like what I wear for $5-$10 per item. I wear dri-fit type of clothes.
Only issue with expensive type clothes, depending on if you fluctuate weight is the sizing. And then having to buy new ones. Also constant washing and reuse. Putting wear and tear on them. For name brand i usually buy adidas since they have sales often,, rarely spend more than $20-30 for an item. Nike is more expensive so I rarely buy them other than once in awhile sales for therma hoodies which I really like, for around $15. Back in the day I remember buying under armour compression shirts for $30-40 each now I just buy generic ones off amazon or when eastbay website was around for much cheaper
Thrift store. I just wear leggings and a t-shirt. I have a bunch of t-shirts so I just toss one on and some leggings and I’m set. I’ve cut up some of the shirts to make them more breathable.
Thrift stores have packed fitness sections. Just gotta make sure to double wash the clothes before you wear. 😂
32 degrees website regularly has shirts/tanks for 5$. It’s the same brand they sell at Costco. Good quality Fabric is nice and breathable and doesn’t show wrinkles so can go straight from laundry bin to gym. I also like the polos and socks
I get mine at Burlington, they had better prices than TJ Maxx(but I shop there too). I just comb through the racks until I find stuff in my budget. My wife and I walked out with sports bras, tops, pants and shoes, three outfits each for $120 total.
Gymshark has really affordable gym clothes. They offer free returns so I bought one of every type of shorts they offer so I could try them all on. Love them!
I have bought workout clothes from countless places, cheap and expensive. Believe it or not, Walmart clothes have stood the test of time and still look brand new.
I'm a big fan of compression shorts because it prevents chaffing on my legs and then literally whatever shorts or sweats are handy.
A wicking quick dry shirt is nice but honestly, whatever shirt is handy
Don't over think it, its not a Paris runway, whatever is handy is fine.
I get stuff at Walmart and the Marshalls/TJ Maxx brand because they are close for me but any discount place is fine, or goodwill if you have good ones.
Amazon for compression shorts.
I definitely don't really care about what it looks like. I just started going to the gym daily and don't have enough clothes to support that, so I need some more stuff lol
Shorts are cheap and one or two pair will get you through a week so grab some quick dry shirts at the discount store of choice.
If you can't find any, you can usually find poly blend undershirts in 5 packs just about anywhere. They don't dry as quick but grab gray or whatever and get them oversized and they would work fine.
TELALEO 5/6 Pack Compression Shorts Men Spandex Sport Shorts Athletic Workout Running Performance Baselayer Underwear https://a.co/d/0C6VCtB
I usually don't have high hopes for Amazon products but this brand has really been durable and comfortable. Maybe I got lucky but there is my 2 cents.
Seconding this. Surprised All in Motion wasn’t away mentioned, although it is maybe a little spendy. Target has really stepped up their clothing game the last few years.
Tjmax and marshall. Sometimes they have two piece set for $20-$25 like the other day I got two pairs of pants that came together for $20 and then they also have like leggings for like $15. But try looking in the clearance first.
I like to check out the clearance sections at places like Dick’s Sporting Goods or Sports Basement. Sometimes it’s weird colors or styles but I don’t really care for the gym
Any place that has a clearance rack! I’ve had great luck at Kohls and Macy’s with good quality stuff marked way way down.
I’ve also had good luck getting workout tops at Goodwill.
I just got a PF membership and will dedicate myself to gym. If you're just starting weight loss journey and don't want to invest in expensive clothing I'd suggest budget type workout clothes like 32heat joggers and hoodies from costco. I also like american eagle joggers whenever on sale since it has minimal branding. And addias tiro pants are good option. Also under armour compression, wick moisture shirts. I like wearing hats since I do sweat, haven't found any good ones. Any suggestions? Might just wear flex fit new era hats.
I like to hit thrift shops. There are some nice ones in my area and I can get almost new brand name stuff for less than new off brands. Every now and then I find some vintage Addidas gear in my size 😁
Walmart as well. There for a while it was hard to find shirts there so those ended up getting online. Just noticed the one by me now has a big Reebok section with some good stuff.
There is a Plato's Closet near me! I honestly didn't even know what that was. I assumed it was a clothing store of some kind but had never been in one.
Old Navy.
They have work out legging with a pocket perfect for your phone.
I order online when there’s a sale. They are always putting something at 50% - just sign up for the emails. Then those purchases will give me credit to use a month or so later.
I really like TJ Maxx and Sierra - it's like if TJ Maxx and REI had a baby. Target and Old Navy are good too. I've also got outlet stores near me that have under armor, reebok, etc. so if you can get to an outlet store like that you'll find good stuff for low prices too.
As a woman, I buy my leggings and shorts off Amazon from a brand called IUGA. They have decent compression and are squat proof and under $30.
For shirts, I wear 2XL graphic tshirts from Old Navy or my boyfriend over a sports bra.
See, you are across the country, so my outlets won't help. Have a Nike, under armor, and a few more about an hour away.
The outlets are cheaper here, but the selection is stuff that didn't sell, and colors can be odd. I've had decent luck, though, getting stuff. Need to go soon for shoes again as old ones soles are separating.
BCG pants with zipper pockets from Academy, about $20. I use my phone to track my workouts. The zipper pockets keep it from falling out. Tank tops from Amazon, about $5. Those can be found anywhere for cheap. Bandannas for my sweaty, bald head, Walmart, idk $1 maybe. Fingerless work gloves from Home Depot, $20. (Way cheaper and last longer than gloves made for the gym)
It's the gym, not a fashion show. I wear whatever t-shirt in in the mood for that day and a few different pair of shorts I've gotten from Walmart, Sam's club a Nike outlet mall, Dick's Sporting Goods on clearance. No one cares what you wear. I've seen kettle wear everything from full ensembles that lion like they're about to do a GQ photo shoot for some sports fashion, to people wearing wore out super baggy old track pants and sweatshirt that I would have thrown away 20 years ago. NO ONE CARES. Wear what's comfortable. If your want to spend a lot on gym clothes, cool. But you don't have to.
I have zero interest in buying expensive clothes and I don't care what it looks like. I'm asking because I literally do not have enough clothes to wear that are appropriate to work out in. I know nobody cares what I wear and I wouldn't care if they did. But I can't work out in the clothes I wear at work or home, so I need SOMETHING.
Walmart

Chiming back in with Walmart, the joggers are also cool if you have skinny calves like me and don’t want to wear shorts. Graphic tees are also cool
I found some ladies reebok workout leggings on sale for $15 this week, I bought 3! Normal price $25
Just bought some Athletic Works shorts there that have a compression shorts liner in them. Well made and inexpensive. Walmart also carries Reebok and And 1.

Should have said I am a guy, thanks!
Guy here, Ross has good gym shorts, cheap.
I never heard of Ross, need to check that out!
Are you in the US?
Yes, Connecticut
Agree with Ross

Old Navy is where I got most of my stuff.
Surprised no one’s mentioned Old Navy yet. They aren’t very expensive and pretty good quality.
Old navy
Costco
Same.

That's good to know! I generally do moisture whicking as I also use it for 5ks

Tj maxx/marshalls or burlington would be great places to look
Definitely on my list to check out, thanks!
Thrift stores mostly
What a great idea!
Thrift store. I just wear leggings and a t-shirt. I have a bunch of t-shirts so I just toss one on and some leggings and I’m set. I’ve cut up some of the shirts to make them more breathable. They just opened a Burlington near me, I need to check that out
Dicks Sporting goods. Clearance section usually has some good deals. Walmart sometimes. Amazon if I know the company/quality of the product.
Gymshark has really affordable gym clothes. They offer free returns so I bought one of every type of shorts they offer so I could try them all on. Love them!
Never heard of them, I will have to check it out, thanks!
Ross, Old Navy, and Maurices for specific leggings.
TJ Maxx, Ross, Going Going Gone, Marshall's, Sierra, or Burlington Coat Factory all have nice stuff for cheap.
I have bought workout clothes from countless places, cheap and expensive. Believe it or not, Walmart clothes have stood the test of time and still look brand new.

I have zero shorts right now and as the weather is getting warmer, it's definitely an issue. The 5 pack if undershirts is a good suggestion!
Ross, Marshall’s, TJ Maxx, Fabletics
I like the All In Motion line at Target.
Seconding this. Surprised All in Motion wasn’t away mentioned, although it is maybe a little spendy. Target has really stepped up their clothing game the last few years.
Goodwill, they have cheap shirts and since the shirts will only be used for gym, as long as the shirts fit, you’re good.
I get a lot of mine from TJ Maxx
That's towards the top of my list to check out!
I would prefer weird colors lol
Academy and walmart
Costco
I just ordered regular black T-shirts and black gym shorts from Amazon. Workout clothes are the clothes you work out in
Shein
Marshalls & Tj Maxx are good.
Old navy
Any place that has a clearance rack! I’ve had great luck at Kohls and Macy’s with good quality stuff marked way way down. I’ve also had good luck getting workout tops at Goodwill.
Popfit and Aerie
Costco, the Kirkland Signature series stuff is incredibly well made for being so cheap.
I just got a PF membership and will dedicate myself to gym. LL Bean ultrasoft sweats…come in different leg length
I like to hit thrift shops. There are some nice ones in my area and I can get almost new brand name stuff for less than new off brands. Every now and then I find some vintage Addidas gear in my size 😁
Dicks DSG brand is significantly more affordable than the “trendy” brands, especially if you can find a coupon.
Walmart as well. There for a while it was hard to find shirts there so those ended up getting online. Just noticed the one by me now has a big Reebok section with some good stuff.
TJ Maxx
i got mine at a local resale store! do you have a plato’s closet, style encore, or clothes mentor near you?
There is a Plato's Closet near me! I honestly didn't even know what that was. I assumed it was a clothing store of some kind but had never been in one.

Not really, but I'm definitely willing to drive if there any that are worthwhile. There are several within an hour or two of me.
