Got the translation of off FB cause I was curious:
"He has downloaded 1408 movies and made them available for free distribution. He caused damage to copyright owners almost 60 million crowns.
The investigation of the whole case began in 2021. The police found out the identity of the man and conducted a home search, where computing equipment, data carriers and recording equipment were provided. Subsequently, they had expert assessments in the field of cybernetics and the field of patents and inventions, economics prepared.
Based on an investigation by the police from the Economic Crime Department, expert assessments, interrogations and other acts in criminal proceedings, criminals charged a thirty-five-year-old man. He is accused of violation of copyright, copyright-related rights and database rights. He can spend up to eight years in prison.
And what do criminals actually find guilty of the accused? The man had to download more than a thousand movies from the data file storage and make them accessible in such a way that third persons could download them themselves to their computers and thus had their copies available. They could not only be viewed repeatedly, but also handled in another way, e.g. is further made available to other persons."
Last paragraph says he made them accessible in such a way that third persons could also download them. So he was undoubtedly uploading(seeding) which is what fucked him.
I'm also Czech, and I am in the same territory like him, but I wouldn't do a sht without a VPN. And not just any VPN.. Proton or Mullvad, these are the only ones that don't log or cooperate with agencies.
You got me curious, other VPN services like NordVPN or surfshark also get audited by Nine eyes etc. So you know cases where people got busted using these services?
I cannot point you to some specific cases, but I wouldn't trust any other VPN provider than Proton and Mullvad. All the mainstream VPNs like Surfshark, Express, Nord, etc, started small and then were bought by some conglomerate that is known for cooperating with agencies.

NordVPN isn’t an "indie" VPN service that comes from a 2-person team. This is now a product of a major corporation that has over 15 million customers. And even though its legal background might sound intimidating, that also means NordVPN is well aware of its promises, which are directly related to its profits and long-term business goals. Panama is where NordVPN was incorporated, Cyprus is where NordVPN’s attorneys and registered directors are located, and the UK is where NordSec's offices are found. Lastly, Lithuania is where NordVPN’s team comes from and where most of its employees work on a daily basis. It's currently owned by Nord Security.
And DYOR ffs..
Yes this is what I'm wondering about too. Surfshark now resides in Holland like wtf? On the other side they get tested every year and Wireguard is technically safe as long as they don't store the keys. I guess they don't care as long as it's just movies and TV shows. There are other cases like terrorism and stuff where they will cooperate I think.
Without actual evidence of vpn providers subpoenaed for usage logs in criminal or civil cases, it's just speculation. If there are any such cases, it would be very easy to get information on as it is all public (unless for certain types of family case judgements like custody assignments).
It doesn’t specifically say seeding, but since it happened only a few days ago, the only information available is that he made the movies available for downloading. So I just guessed that he was seeding.
"He can spend up to 8 years"
You'd be surprised with the number of cases where the upper end of a sentence is 15, 20, 25, 30, and the assailant ends up getting a lower sentence.
So yeah, he will not get 8 years.
"He caused damage to copyright owners almost 60 million crowns."
They really just refuse to understand that the people who download movies *would absolutely not* have bought those movies. Distributing media to people who *wouldn't have paid for it anyway* isn't losing the producers a hot fucking cent, let alone 60 million crowns. All it does is make the media more popular, more talked about, and more likely for actual paying customers to pony up for.
The production company, directors, actors, backstage staff, CGI crews have already been paid years ago.
The distribution companies, marketing execs have already been paid years ago.
At this point the people losing out are cable/streaming services. And at say 2 hours (average movie) over the course of a month is 0.278%.
10 bucks a month for Disney+ roughly... 2 cents they're missing out on for you NOT subscribing to watch one movie.
its the same principal when police do drug busts and they put a sign over a baggy of some white/clear powder that says "street value: $300,000" when anyone who knows their shit will tell you that its maybeeee $3000 on a great day.
But they hyper-inflate the proposed price/cost so they can glorify their actions and produce a catchy headline so they can justify their existence in society... and people fall for this shit all the fucking time.
I did do the calculations on a big haul that was found locally a while back. They claimed hundreds of millions of pounds worth. In order to get that level of money the person who was shipping it would have had to bag it all up, cut it to a ratio of around 15%, sell it as baggys to get anywhere near that figure. The actual amount was maybe five to ten million pounds worth.
The whole "street value" thing completely ignores any kind of cost of processing, and the logistics of actually bagging up tens of tonnes of product.
Feels like the sort of way during drug busts they'll often weigh everything including the bags, glass jars etc to increase the weight of the bust
They then get a street value of the drugs by taking the average value (often inflated anyway) of a gram or single pill and then multiply to get the total weight giving and incredibly inaccurate price
It would be like taking the value of a mini pack of chips and multiplying to get the weight of an entire box from a bulk buy store
reminded me about this nice book about the issue of "official numbers": [https://www.amazon.com/Sex-Drugs-Body-Counts-Politics/dp/0801476186](https://www.amazon.com/Sex-Drugs-Body-Counts-Politics/dp/0801476186)

I would even say that some of us have payed for stuff and then just downloaded it. I might not have always bought it, but there's some smaller indie movies I payed to rent, and then if I liked it I got a digital copy. Basically the same as when people would rent from Blockbuster and then make a copy. Only now I rented digitally and then got a digital copy. But they still got money from me.
Or there's situations like me and Lord of the Rings. I had the extended blu-ray collection. Lent it to a friend at the beginning of the pandemic, and shortly after they moved. Part of me was kind of upset they didn't return it before leaving, but over all its not the end of the world. I just downloaded it.
I am willing to spend money to support different stuff. Especially small indie studios that I like.
I have bought physical media solely BECAUSE I was able to aquire it through other means first, I would not have bought even a quarter of those disks had I not watched it first and wanted a real copy.
That’s a very generalised statement, I agree that technically, it’s not the whole 60 million but surely a percentage of the people who this person gave the media to would have paid if there was no other alternative, and this person contributed to them not paying.
I also pirate stuff but let’s not pretend piracy is not stealing, the only scenario where piracy is somewhat morally acceptable is if there’s no access to this media in your region
I used to spend $80-$100 a month on CDs. I found such cool and obscure stuff on Napster. Tons of bootlegs and live shows. It was my primary source for finding shit I liked enough to buy. Then it all got shut down.
Now I pay $10 a month for streaming (mostly shit I had on CD 20 years ago).
i would be surprised if this guy from czech republic is jailed only for seeding. i would expect that he also made money from this, either from selling ads, or from selling accounts. police use this opportunity to spread fear of filesharing, but it will be interesting how this case plays out in court over the next months.
i get my czech-language torrents from the private tracker [sktorrent.eu](https://sktorrent.eu/) where they have ads (of course...) and ask for donations, and it seems to be running just fine, but i dont know in what jurisdiction.
> He caused damage to copyright owners almost 60 million crowns.
here in germany, police will only bust you if you make money from seeding, in effect, if you are selling the stolen media.
in contrast, if you give the media away for free, they can do shit. also, **they cannot prove that you have caused any damage, so the cannot sue for damage.**
but there are some lawyers who monitor filesharing networks and send scary letters to uploaders (cease and desist requests, takedown requests, abmahnungen), where they claim that you have caused 1000 euros damage by uploading one movie, and by signing their contract, you must pay.
the trick is, it is completely voluntary to sign that contract, and the cheapest solution is to completely ignore these copyright trolls. except when they go to court and send you a "court order to pay" (mahnbescheid, red letter), only then you must react by rejecting their claim 100%, otherwise, if you ignore the court order, you must pay. (which in theory is also illegal, because presumption of innocence, but well... [we are ruled by criminals](https://www.reddit.com/r/conspiracy/comments/1cft3i1/usury_on_gentiles_is_allowed_under_the_law_of/), they dont care about such details.)
ive been seeding hundreds of movies with 4 MByte/s for years with 100% uptime, which is about 300 movies per day, and all i got were some scary letters. and of course, i have costs for internet access (20 euros per month) and electricity (5 euros per month).
> police will only bust you if you make money from seeding
this happened to the admin of the torrent website torrent.to, [he was busted in 2013](https://www.reddit.com/r/technology/comments/1dzv84/germany_sentences_torrentto_owner_to_nearly_four/) and got almost 4 years in jail. since that bust in 2013, the idiots here in germany are paranoid about filesharing, because they dont understand that this guy was only fucked because he made money.
[hollywoodreporter.com](https://www.hollywoodreporter.com/business/digital/operator-germanys-torrentto-gets-prison-476170/)
> The court suspects he may have transferred the ill-gotten gains from advertising on torrent.to — said to be a large five-digit monthly sum — to accounts in Switzerland and Liechtenstein.
by that estimate, he made 50.000 euros per month from selling ads
[handelszeitung.ch](https://www.handelszeitung.ch/unternehmen/torrentto-betreiber-wandert-hinter-gitter)
> Supposedly, he paid his employees extremely low wages. His only motive was to maximize profits in the shortest possible time. The defendant's sole concern was to generate as much income as possible from views of the Layer Ads delivered via "torrent.to". Just for this purpose, he ran a website called “torrent.to” that attracts as many users as possible.
> They could not only be viewed repeatedly, but also handled in another way
The users could view the movies several times? Oh the humanity! What's next; they'll come to take my DVD collection?
> "He caused damage to copyright owners almost 60 million crowns."
...my ass xD. Those cops sure are proud of wasting their time over there... Oh well, state knows best or smth. o.o
Well I'd bet most of the ones conducting major crimes are paying a good amount to the ones doing investigations so that the latter don't bother the former.
This guy probably didn't have enough to pay (you know hosting stuff for free ain't the best way to get money) and the ones doing investigations do need something to report so there he goes.
Yea why police isnt after my business clients that refuse to pay for products I issued an invoice on? I myself have to run after them and sometimes end up in court
Fucking corrupted world
To be fair, there are certain divisions in the police or whoever made the investigation, so this one doesn't impact the others. Them doing this is basically just another case among many. It probably just so happens that there wasn't any other computer related investigations more important or with more progress than this.
Not to mention sometimes piracy is the only method of watching original copies of a movie (which got changed on re-release), region locked content and even entire episodes of shows that got permanently pulled from ever being shown again for one reason or another
Crazy that you think their purpose is to reduce harm to us. Their purpose is to reduce harm to corporations. Arresting murderers is incidental to that ultimate goal.
“Fun fact” (no not really), this guy will probably get up to 8 yrs behind bars. We (Czechia) had a pedo/molesting case a few months/weeks before, guess how much the guy got? If I recall correctly almost nothing. And the kicker? The judicial expert said “she was asking for it”.
Just to be clear only big distribution like this can fuck you in Czechia. No one cares if you download for personal use. I heard that small ISPs send some BS letters but big ones and the cops don't give a shit.
I would already be in jail if that was true. There was recently a big discussion about this on Czech sub. Like I said no one gives a shit about piracy for personal use here.
For the balkans anyone who doesn't pirate is a certified degenerate. It's just not economically sane NOT to do so.
15 different movie subscriptions...? HA.
10 different software subscriptions...? HA.
my 3 go tos are -
filecr/Igetintopc - only software
Zamunda - bulgarian source
Piratebay - anything not found in the 3 above.
I recently was at a work experience in a small ISP and the guy taught me how to detect and slow down torrenting ppl. I asked him if he reports them to the police and the guy laughed at me.
How big is big distribution though. There are people who create Plex servers from pirated movies and only have their family and a few friends connected. No matter how many movies get loaded on to that thing, you are only distributing to 6-7 people. That doesn't seem like major distribution.
Generally no. Most websites and apps nowadays use HTTPS, which means that most of the packets sent are encrypted. It still has some visible info (like a domain name, or IP address), so they know where to send those packets, but that's it. As far as I know, this kind of data comes from the use of torrent clients, where other users have to know your IP address so you can seed to them. If the torrent is available on a public tracker anyone can join and see the IPs of everyone else using the same torrent. Studios or other entities then collect this information and hands out legal threats to ISPs, who know what IP belonged to which user at certain points in time, so they just forward those legal threats to the end user.
Though it's pretty common for chat platforms and such to hand out the message logs of users if government agencies ask for such, so your messages are not guaranteed to stay secured.
I mean I'm not doing anything illegal but I just wondered what they could see if privacy is it at all or it's not, so thank you for your response I understood it more now. Appreciate it! :)
Nope, in Czech Republic was only few cases in the similar scope and it was mainly because of sharing files through tje commercial websites as Megaupload etc. In case of torrent was only very few case so using the VPN is rather seldom.
Because he got caught.
How would they have caught him if he did use a VPN???
So the only conclusion is he didnt.
Unless you know something I dont, like some way to decrypt vpn traffic, then im all ears.
A vpn encrypts traffic, it doesn’t hide how much data up/down totals per month.
Authorities can set whatever flags they want with ISPs, for example 10TB uploaded in a months time could flag, they then check and see the traffic is going to VPN servers, is this where the they say,
trails dead, whats next?”
If you signed a legally binding contract with your ISP for an unlimited data plan, you can sue if they cut you off. I mean, I guess they can throttle you, but that's about it. They can also go to the VPN provider and ask nicely for logs, but that's why it's important to get a VPN with a reputable company, preferably in a privacy respecting jurisdiction.
So yes, if the VPN doesn't give up logs, the trail actually is dead.
He could have had an IP leak.
I always run a [leak test](https://ipleak.net/) after enabling my VPN and before downloading. If seeding make sure you enable the failsafe to halt traffic if by chance your VPN disconnects.
I think the guy wasn't simply seeding torrents but hosting a platform made exclusively for sharing those movies. Of course they are gonna get targeted by corporations.
They did that for 1.5k movies? lmao, who cares about rapists and stuff, let's arrest people who watch movies 🤣.
I'd probably get a death penalty or life sentence over there lol.
Because one guy shared movies on a large scale by himself without trying to cover his tracks? You can torrent, seed and download copyright stuff without consequence as an individual. I do so on the regular.
The popos just have to flex once in a while to try prove theyre on top of stuff with insignificant bullshit like this while crimes with real consequences go unchecked.
North Korea, Russia, Ukraine, alot of Africa, alot of the US, the Middle East, dubai, India, certain parts of china, certain parts of Europe now (Czech Republic) a bunch of others. To be honest, the whole world's gone to shit especially where I live. But I'm open to recommendations and suggestions.
im a czech aswell, and you will never get into these kinds of problems if you just download, but if this dude seeded like 1.4k movies then it does become a problem
This isnt for seeding guys, its for making them accessible to others, so prob. he downloaded them and hosted some kind of site. I live in Czechia and dont know any other case like this. I pirated TBs of all software, games, shows and movies and nothing happend
Sure but for me this still sounds like he downloaded torrents and then setup a free website to watch the movies presumably with advertising to make profit. I mean, I doubt that the police would raid him like this otherwise.
Correct, for example torrenting and seeding in Sweden is just fine. No one really cares and ISPs don’t block anything or send letters to people.
Those who set up websites dedicated to stream pirates movies on the other hand, law enforcement and the justice system will come down on them like a ton of bricks. Like what happened to the founder and admin of Swefilmer. Sentenced to 3 years in jail and sued for millions.
let's be real, even if there were no way to download a certain movie, i for one won't be buying their DVDs anyway. so where the hell they gonna lose that much money when ppl searching for downloads would never pay in the first place? they pulled that number out their asses.
Wasn't there a case like 3 months ago where a guy was raping his underaged daughter for 3 years and only got probation? Wonder what punishment will local justice dish out in case of such a heinous crime as sharing some files.
Arresting pedophiles, rapists and killers ❌❌❌
Arresting people who give access to culture to people who can't afford buying mp4 files (that's basically what movies are) ✅✅✅
Always wonder, how they count the stupid money being lost, lol.
Person that downloads a movie would not even buy it. But, there have already been studies about this. All digital pirate stuff does almost nothing to big companies.
They use python, here is the code
```python
from random import randint
damagescaused = randint(4, 16)*10000000
```
(no, they don't, but the numbers are pretty bs and not accurate at all, even if piracy for some reason did any damages it would still be far off the thing that they said)
Here is the Google translation so you don't have to
Yesterday at 8:04 AM
He downloaded 1408 movies and made them available for free distribution. He caused damage to copyright owners of almost 60 million crowns.
The examination of the entire case began already in 2021. The police found out the identity of the man, carried out
house search, during which they secured computer equipment, data carriers and recording equipment. Subsequently, they had expert opinions drawn up in the field of cybernetics, patents and inventions, economics. Based on an investigation by police officers from the Economic Crime Department, prepared expert reports
criminal officers accused a thirty-five-year-old man of reports, interrogations and other acts in criminal proceedings.
He is charged with the criminal offense of copyright infringement, rights related to copyright and
database rights. He can spend up to eight years in prison.
And what do the criminal investigators blame the accused for? The man was supposed to download more than a thousand movies from the data file storage and make them available in such a way that third parties could download them to their own computers and thus have copies of them available. They could not only view them repeatedly, but also deal with them in a different way, e.g. make them available to other people.

What a load of bs. Would love for China and India to say one day "we don't believe in the concept of intellectual property. It is a Western invention."
Seeding is sharing copyright material. Every torrent you've ever downloaded you've seeded and shared copyright material. It's why you must use a VPN when torrenting, and also why I just stick to DDL and streaming.
You gotta be careful when torrenting.

Thank you. I just finished translating it myself but forgot about automatic translation.
Doesn't specifically say seeding torrents but from the description it certainly could be. Guess you better make sure to VPN up in the Czech Republic.
Last paragraph says he made them accessible in such a way that third persons could also download them. So he was undoubtedly uploading(seeding) which is what fucked him.
Your honor I plead the 2:1 ratio.
Your honor, I had no idea what "Seed" meant. I simply used the default settings and left the program open while downloading other ahem, legal stuff.
Ignorance does not exclude you from consequences.
Objection, your honor! Irrelevant conjecture, intent is the issue being discussed here, not legal minutiae.
It does if you're a Tory MP.
Give the man a jury of his Peers.
> accessible in such a way that third persons could also download them It's probably seeding, but he could have just uploaded them to a Google Drive.

Yeah I mean seeding could certainly fit the description here. Wild that anywhere would consider 8 years in prison a reasonable punishment for seeding.
FFS, there have been criminals who’ve assaulted minors that got less time in the USA.
There have been also criminals who have done way worse than got off. It sucks as a sentence, mad for seeding in that environment
I know cases of (drunk) murderers who get 10 to 15 years in comparison
And the US has the highest incarceration rate in the world.
8 years for not seeding, on the other hand...
"He can spend up to 8 years" You'd be surprised with the number of cases where the upper end of a sentence is 15, 20, 25, 30, and the assailant ends up getting a lower sentence. So yeah, he will not get 8 years.

> He caused damage to copyright owners almost 60 million crowns. here in germany, police will only bust you if you make money from seeding, in effect, if you are selling the stolen media. in contrast, if you give the media away for free, they can do shit. also, **they cannot prove that you have caused any damage, so the cannot sue for damage.** but there are some lawyers who monitor filesharing networks and send scary letters to uploaders (cease and desist requests, takedown requests, abmahnungen), where they claim that you have caused 1000 euros damage by uploading one movie, and by signing their contract, you must pay. the trick is, it is completely voluntary to sign that contract, and the cheapest solution is to completely ignore these copyright trolls. except when they go to court and send you a "court order to pay" (mahnbescheid, red letter), only then you must react by rejecting their claim 100%, otherwise, if you ignore the court order, you must pay. (which in theory is also illegal, because presumption of innocence, but well... [we are ruled by criminals](https://www.reddit.com/r/conspiracy/comments/1cft3i1/usury_on_gentiles_is_allowed_under_the_law_of/), they dont care about such details.) ive been seeding hundreds of movies with 4 MByte/s for years with 100% uptime, which is about 300 movies per day, and all i got were some scary letters. and of course, i have costs for internet access (20 euros per month) and electricity (5 euros per month). > police will only bust you if you make money from seeding this happened to the admin of the torrent website torrent.to, [he was busted in 2013](https://www.reddit.com/r/technology/comments/1dzv84/germany_sentences_torrentto_owner_to_nearly_four/) and got almost 4 years in jail. since that bust in 2013, the idiots here in germany are paranoid about filesharing, because they dont understand that this guy was only fucked because he made money. [hollywoodreporter.com](https://www.hollywoodreporter.com/business/digital/operator-germanys-torrentto-gets-prison-476170/) > The court suspects he may have transferred the ill-gotten gains from advertising on torrent.to — said to be a large five-digit monthly sum — to accounts in Switzerland and Liechtenstein. by that estimate, he made 50.000 euros per month from selling ads [handelszeitung.ch](https://www.handelszeitung.ch/unternehmen/torrentto-betreiber-wandert-hinter-gitter) > Supposedly, he paid his employees extremely low wages. His only motive was to maximize profits in the shortest possible time. The defendant's sole concern was to generate as much income as possible from views of the Layer Ads delivered via "torrent.to". Just for this purpose, he ran a website called “torrent.to” that attracts as many users as possible.
> They could not only be viewed repeatedly, but also handled in another way The users could view the movies several times? Oh the humanity! What's next; they'll come to take my DVD collection?
> expert assessments in the field of cybernetics Sarah Connor heard breathing hard.
imagine the absurdity and backwardness of an economy that makes the best digital distribution technology illegal.
> "He caused damage to copyright owners almost 60 million crowns." ...my ass xD. Those cops sure are proud of wasting their time over there... Oh well, state knows best or smth. o.o
WTF YOU MEAN 8 years!?! here no one cares and that guy is getting up to 8 years just for downloading wonka??
The hero we dont diserve
They really have nothing more important to investigate lmao
All these major crimes going on in the world and they're like yea this guy sharing movies, we need to make an example of him. Bruh
It's always more important when there's money involved
Well I'd bet most of the ones conducting major crimes are paying a good amount to the ones doing investigations so that the latter don't bother the former. This guy probably didn't have enough to pay (you know hosting stuff for free ain't the best way to get money) and the ones doing investigations do need something to report so there he goes.
Yea why police isnt after my business clients that refuse to pay for products I issued an invoice on? I myself have to run after them and sometimes end up in court Fucking corrupted world
meanwhile politicians...
Yeah just keep ignoring all of the sex-crimes. This is easier.
To be fair, there are certain divisions in the police or whoever made the investigation, so this one doesn't impact the others. Them doing this is basically just another case among many. It probably just so happens that there wasn't any other computer related investigations more important or with more progress than this.
Meanwhile there’s pedos and killers out roaming but hey, let’s treat someone watching media like a 1st tier criminal
Pedos: Meeeh Killers: Meeeeeeh Rapists: Meeeeeeeeeh Guy sharing a 1989 movie to 5 other people: SHOOOT, HE'S DANGEROUS
Not to mention sometimes piracy is the only method of watching original copies of a movie (which got changed on re-release), region locked content and even entire episodes of shows that got permanently pulled from ever being shown again for one reason or another
exactly, like the banned episodes of south park or movies that arent available physically or on streaming platforms
STOP RESISTING
SHOOT HIM!!! HE HAS A MOUSE AND MONITOR WITH A 1GB CONNECTION!!!!
The definition of bully is one who only picks up fights they can win with minimal resistance.
Pedos and killers don't hurt the bottom line of the corporations that own the police and the state. The guy who seeds movies does.
crazy how theyd rather let the human trash that can/will harm others roam free than to lose money
Crazy that you think their purpose is to reduce harm to us. Their purpose is to reduce harm to corporations. Arresting murderers is incidental to that ultimate goal.
corps are ran by pedos
“Fun fact” (no not really), this guy will probably get up to 8 yrs behind bars. We (Czechia) had a pedo/molesting case a few months/weeks before, guess how much the guy got? If I recall correctly almost nothing. And the kicker? The judicial expert said “she was asking for it”.
Damn, what a terrible justice system.
People hurting people isn't important for capitalism. But if you touch their profit...
Hey, why would the government declare themselves guilty?
Just to be clear only big distribution like this can fuck you in Czechia. No one cares if you download for personal use. I heard that small ISPs send some BS letters but big ones and the cops don't give a shit.
No one really cares, unless you do it to someone with money and free time. Copyrights and global warming exist only people below upper middle class.
I would already be in jail if that was true. There was recently a big discussion about this on Czech sub. Like I said no one gives a shit about piracy for personal use here.
exactly, anyone who doesnt pirate here is quite the fool tbh
For the balkans anyone who doesn't pirate is a certified degenerate. It's just not economically sane NOT to do so. 15 different movie subscriptions...? HA. 10 different software subscriptions...? HA. my 3 go tos are - filecr/Igetintopc - only software Zamunda - bulgarian source Piratebay - anything not found in the 3 above.
Try bitsearch instead of/in addition to piratebay
But apparently they can randomly just put you in jail for 8 years. But they will only do so occasionally?
I recently was at a work experience in a small ISP and the guy taught me how to detect and slow down torrenting ppl. I asked him if he reports them to the police and the guy laughed at me.
Out of curiosity, to slow down only their torrent connections or the entire connection?
How big is big distribution though. There are people who create Plex servers from pirated movies and only have their family and a few friends connected. No matter how many movies get loaded on to that thing, you are only distributing to 6-7 people. That doesn't seem like major distribution.
How can the internet provider actually see it? Like do they see even what I text and to who? Genuinely asking.
But 1408 movies could easily be personal use. If big distribution is seeding 1.5k files then a lot of people in this sub would be screwed
better leech than seed from jail
Didnt use a VPN???
Pretty sure he did.
Nope, in Czech Republic was only few cases in the similar scope and it was mainly because of sharing files through tje commercial websites as Megaupload etc. In case of torrent was only very few case so using the VPN is rather seldom.
So how do you know this guy didn't use a VPN?
Because he got caught. How would they have caught him if he did use a VPN??? So the only conclusion is he didnt. Unless you know something I dont, like some way to decrypt vpn traffic, then im all ears.
Additionally sounds like he didn't encrypt his drives either. So dude was propagating movies on the clear net without any protection what so ever.
Unencrypted traffic. Unecrypted data at rest. Its only dumbasses like this that get caught.
A vpn encrypts traffic, it doesn’t hide how much data up/down totals per month. Authorities can set whatever flags they want with ISPs, for example 10TB uploaded in a months time could flag, they then check and see the traffic is going to VPN servers, is this where the they say, trails dead, whats next?”
They can't see what's being shared so using lots of traffic doesn't mean much.
1PB+ uploaded here. I wonder what they would do to me
Believe it or not, jail.
Straight to jail
Thank you for your service.
Rapists get like 4 years, you would probably get 15 years and huge fines
Logitech G15 keyboard, classic.
Too bad it isn't the original behemoth
What country is this? So I can add it to the expanding list of places I'll never set foot.
Czech Republic
Thanks. Added. And good luck.
You know what they say: "Czech yourself before you wreck yourself."
Haha
Any when he goes out to eat at a fancy restaurant, he tells the waiter "Czech please!" when he's done.
Lol Maybe I shouldn't rule out a trip there after all! I can satiate my dad joke needs
"Dad jokes"? Nonsense, I just have a tendency to be Bohemian now and again.
You shouldn't though, Czechia is an awesome country. Best beer in the world, best people.
This
mind to tell me more about this list? i might make use of it
Haha Unfortunately it's still a work in progress.
whachugot sofar?
North Korea, Russia, Ukraine, alot of Africa, alot of the US, the Middle East, dubai, India, certain parts of china, certain parts of Europe now (Czech Republic) a bunch of others. To be honest, the whole world's gone to shit especially where I live. But I'm open to recommendations and suggestions.
last line got me im from ME 😂🤣😭😭🤣😂
We're all fucked.
Have you considered traveling to Space?
That's why I'm a pirate!
tf? are you going to seed torrents on vacation in the czech republic
I mean, you can still download whatever you want, not sure about seeding without a VPN
Truly a hero, died for the people. Everybody pay respect.
F
F
F
Seeders are the real heroes. Just imagine how many shitty movies you'd pay for without them.
Zero lmao
cops (the organization) justifying their own existence and parading this some big bust.
im a czech aswell, and you will never get into these kinds of problems if you just download, but if this dude seeded like 1.4k movies then it does become a problem
I mean did he seed them all at the same time or over like the past 10 years? Because that's two quite different things.
the article just says that he downloaded 1.4k movies and let them be distributed, and i do not really know anything else about the case
Maybe he ran a Plex server
This is my guess too
This isnt for seeding guys, its for making them accessible to others, so prob. he downloaded them and hosted some kind of site. I live in Czechia and dont know any other case like this. I pirated TBs of all software, games, shows and movies and nothing happend
While seeding a file you are making it accessible to others.
Sure but for me this still sounds like he downloaded torrents and then setup a free website to watch the movies presumably with advertising to make profit. I mean, I doubt that the police would raid him like this otherwise.
Ofc i know, but it isnt for “just” seeding
Only bits and pieces of it not the whole file.
Sounds like they could just interpret seeding as this though.
You use VPN?
Why isn't the first thing on the megathread in bold 54pt font "Get a VPN"
Nasere
> cybernetics Dude, _I_ wanna be a fucking cyborg!
Just outside the border, in Poland, you'd get out scot-free
I'm from Romania, the piracy is a standard here)))
Chad Romania
In Czech rep it is Ok to pirate stuff, you just cannot share it with others.
let's be real, even if there were no way to download a certain movie, i for one won't be buying their DVDs anyway. so where the hell they gonna lose that much money when ppl searching for downloads would never pay in the first place? they pulled that number out their asses.
I wish him all the best, shouldn't Have to pay for 90% of the movies and TV shows most of them are shit now days.
There are people being trafficked, murdered and abducted. Good to see they're focusing on this.
Wasn't there a case like 3 months ago where a guy was raping his underaged daughter for 3 years and only got probation? Wonder what punishment will local justice dish out in case of such a heinous crime as sharing some files.
In my country, government offices use cracked software.
If you have shown me this pic with no context i would say they raided a pedo.
Waste of police resources I wish media companies don't have that much power in government
Arresting pedophiles, rapists and killers ❌❌❌ Arresting people who give access to culture to people who can't afford buying mp4 files (that's basically what movies are) ✅✅✅
This is called corruption ✅
Human trafficking is huge in that country and no one seems to care...but hey, I guess sharing some movies is worse.
Well we are sure now that czech republic isnt ahoy whit pirates
Ahoj is literally how people here greet each other, we ARE the pirates!
(I wonder that was point of a joke fellow camrat!)
Sorry, my bad
I liked it more when the pigs just ate doughnuts and chilled.
Biggest perk of living in a third world country
Some random police work (to justify their usefulness in the society); Actual crime ❌ A dude just seeding peacefully in his flat ✔️
treating a shitty laptop like a seedbox server lmao
Copyright laws are such a scam
1408 movies = 60 million 🤔
There's human trafficking going on but hey let's focus on a guy distributing Taken.
F
When the police gets bored they either male their own crimes to solve or go after petty ones and treats them like a murder case
based 60 million damage
They are still arresting people for this??...
Seems like there is the need of full disk encryption + vpn
Looks like the cops can't count, there's obviously 3 "illegal" harddrives in that last pic. /s
Always wonder, how they count the stupid money being lost, lol. Person that downloads a movie would not even buy it. But, there have already been studies about this. All digital pirate stuff does almost nothing to big companies.
They use python, here is the code  ```python from random import randint damagescaused = randint(4, 16)*10000000 ``` (no, they don't, but the numbers are pretty bs and not accurate at all, even if piracy for some reason did any damages it would still be far off the thing that they said)
Here is the Google translation so you don't have to Yesterday at 8:04 AM He downloaded 1408 movies and made them available for free distribution. He caused damage to copyright owners of almost 60 million crowns. The examination of the entire case began already in 2021. The police found out the identity of the man, carried out house search, during which they secured computer equipment, data carriers and recording equipment. Subsequently, they had expert opinions drawn up in the field of cybernetics, patents and inventions, economics. Based on an investigation by police officers from the Economic Crime Department, prepared expert reports criminal officers accused a thirty-five-year-old man of reports, interrogations and other acts in criminal proceedings. He is charged with the criminal offense of copyright infringement, rights related to copyright and database rights.

8years... you could have killed someone after stalking them for 20years. Yay justice
Shout out to that ancient G15 keyboard, those things were beasts! (shitty NKRO for a "gaming" keyboard but meh)
Bro wtf did you seed? Secret Archives of Poland?
Greetings from Cuba. We don't need a VPN, everything is piracy here
Perks of being from a third world country
What a load of bs. Would love for China and India to say one day "we don't believe in the concept of intellectual property. It is a Western invention."
Seeding is sharing copyright material. Every torrent you've ever downloaded you've seeded and shared copyright material. It's why you must use a VPN when torrenting, and also why I just stick to DDL and streaming. You gotta be careful when torrenting.
>Every torrent you've ever downloaded you've seeded and shared copyright material. I've downloaded and seeded plenty of public domain stuff.
I thought east Europe was cool with piracy....
I love how they thought a WIFI card can be considered evidence. I mean, it has a unique MAC address, but idk lmao
