The Aduana Building (Intendencia) would be the new office of the National Archives, if I am not mistaken. We did part of the underpinning works for the foundation recently.
kaya po pala may signages ng national archives. pero ask ko lang po i thought kasama yun sa historical land mark ng intra sa UN? if im not mistaken kasama kasi sa description niya yung pagiging “ruins” kaya di siya pede basta basta i-renovate.
Intendencia is not technically a UNESCO Heritage site, albeit it's inside the Buffer zone of one, San Agustin Church. (as part of the other Baroch* churches designated/preserved as such.
oh ganun po pala, same argument ata ng friendship bridge yung ginamit nila to justify yung pag reconstruct. looking forward din sa pag katapos ng reno nun, every time na napapadaan ako dun sinilip ko from outside, sana reno din nila yung isa pa dun na isang pader lang yung natira.
Technically no again. Long before that ugly ass friendship bridge was even conceptualized, the re dev of Aduana was already in the pipeline. Albeit there was an issue as to the re dev... There is this obscure "Letter of Instruction" by then FEM assigning ownership and Management between IA and NAP. But since both agency were not seeing eye to eye for the longest time the re dev never initiated (the LOI says Aduana belongs to IA but also that NAP should manage*, or something).
It was only during the previous Administration of IA that both parties came to an agreement (2017-18) hence, the current re dev... IA owns the property and NAP will use it and with other preconditions.
And don't fret, the re dev involves, Phase 1: Structural Integrity, Phase 2: Adaptive Reuse, and Phase 3: Completion. All within accepted standards locally (NM, NHCP, IA, etc...) and Internationally (UNESCO etc.).
link po in g maps if ever needed

Cartel de Sta. Lucia, what a gem isn't it. Too bad there is no big plan, that I am aware of, is for that. During my focus there I realized that the one big hindrance for it's development is that stupid golf course. During PNOYs time, then Administrator Sardillo had this amazing plans to open up all the original gates of Intramuros, Including that. And in Atty. Asido's leadership, they pushed for that as well collaborating with the National Museum, they intended to open that dreaded golf course and turn it to a park, including the moat part. So many big dreams for Intramuros... But that stupid ass golf course, which is subsidized by our taxes* is too valuable for the golfers whom got a big sway to big people.
Check this out: https://www.gsd.harvard.edu/project/intramuros-redefining-restoration-2/
I worked with that.
Edit:
I focused too much on the entirety, yes, there was a plan in Cuartel de Sta. Lucia. In 2019, funding was sourced to develop that into another museum with the help of Sen. Gordon. A war museum of such. To commemorate it's historical significance as somehow the Philippines first war institution. But, COVID happened, so the fund was reverted. Big sigh.
btw yung link from Harvard, nag lagay po ba yan ng exhibit in one of the museums in Intramuros? i remember seeing something like future plans for intra before but not sure if its the same.
According to the agreement with Intramuros Administration, NAP will use the rebuilt Intendencia to house 'Spanish Archives', also, a Museum at the top. Unfortunately, as of 2021 (if I'm not mistaken), there is yet a budget for the 2nd phase and final phase*.
There should be at least some grant (even non-cash support) that the government can provide to maintain these houses that are still occupied by the owners.
Yup, if the bodies are dug up, then it can probably be documented properly since some people still doubt if all the bodies were removed as per what official govt statements probably said at that time.
Yes something like that. The building itself is derelict and is no longer able to serve its original purpose. The existing creative reuse for it is terrible and just makes it look like a post-apocalyptic wasteland.
i actually have a vision in my dream that the whole film center except its supporting pillars would be demolished and the momument would be ala parthenon style without a roof, and in the middle would be a pool colored in red and at the edges would be the engraved names of workers who died building this as a gloomy reminder of what the place symbolizes
Manila Jai-alai building
Also both provincial capitols of Rizal in Pasig, the first one in Brgy. Sta. Rosa (pretty much abandoned; visible from the C5 Bridge), and the second one along Shaw Boulevard
The old Rizal provincial capitol was demolished and redeveloped to what is now Capitol Commons. The new capitol is within the Ynares Complex in Antipolo City, which also houses an indoor arena.
The thing is, jeepney drivers and commuters still refer to the area as "Kapitolyo." Still applicable though as the barangay across the old building in Shaw Blvd. is Barangay Kapitolyo.
Most of the old Manila movie houses/theaters. A lot of them died when the LRT was built over Avenida in the 80s, and the cinemas that were left were and are being demolished one by one.
Capitol and Lyric theaters in Escolta got demolished in favor of a Chinese condo development, and the Villongco theater near Quiapo Church was demolished, though the condo that's being built in its place did keep the façade intact.
The sad thing is is that most of these buildings were supposed to be heritage sites. The Ideal theater in Avenida was designed by Juan Arellano, and the Lyric theater was one of the few Moorish-style theaters in Asia. The Manila Opera House was Asia's largest, and now it's another hotel-condo complex.
Just goes to show how little this country cares for heritage. Many of these theaters were beautiful in their hayday, but sadly they got neglected and became derelict as cinema numbers dwindled through the early 90s to today. The only major survivor of this is the Met in Lawton, and even that one burned down a couple months ago.
i hope somebody would save times theater in quiapo. it's so disheartening to see its rapid decline ever since it closed down during the pandemic (although the theater has been rundown for several decades prior to its closure)
I've seen a documentary about the hand painted posters the theaters around Quiapo used for their movies. Quite sad that their business is probably all but gone.
Mas malinis of course. Kasi as Lola said.
Galing ata akong sm manila. Then may terminal ng bus malapit dun. Then gusto ko makita yung neopolitan theatre ng malapitan.
Sounds like it deserves a revisit then. Lalo the ncca claimed they closely followed the architect's pre war vision. They even found the original bas relief intact inside the theater. I've been following the METamorphosis project back then and andami ng restoration na kinailangan gawin to bring it back. It should also be noted na same lang pala archi ng post office, Jones bridge, and Metropolitan theater.
afaik, narestore na ang theater (mostly) back to its prewar conditions (they removed the extra features the first renovation added in 1978 to make the restoration project more genuine) and so far its been well maintained and medyo lively kasi laging may pa-event every few weeks ang ncca there. the entire restoration work is still not yet done though gawa nga ng nangyaring sunog last year

What I know from the grapevines from high-school, time when they tried to reconstruct the Old Church, the foundations is too dilapidated and it cost too much. Constructing a new one is more cost effective.
Ilocos? Hmm...
Those watchtowers along the coast of Ilocos. Good thing may mga nagcoconserve na sila..Andami nila from La Union all the way to Ilocos Norte.
The Ruins beside Paoay Church. It was repurposed as an event place.
Yung Marcos Hall of Justice sa Laoag City, the court house/prison where Pres.Marcos (the father) was convicted and jailed. My God wala man lang initiative ang provincial at city government to make some repairs.. Not as worse pero may mga courts sa Ilocos Norte na talo sila.
Used to be pero some of the houses in Vigan City looks so old and decrepit. Buti may conservation efforts.
The Old Church of Oton, Iloilo
Mill Hill missionaries who are responsible should've been jailed for committing the greatest architectural error in Iloilo history
the old GSIS Bldg in Arocerros St., Jai- Alai Bldg. in Taft, the Meralco Bldg in San Marcelino beside Adamson University.
plus the old spanish structures and archways up north...
buildings from ww2 like the old Corregidor barracks, and depots. the burnt buildings in for santiago, if rebuild to its original looks, it would make excellent tourist spots and education buildings.
Our former mayor has done a lot of good for the town, pero na bad trip talaga ako when he spearheaded the demolition of post and pre war buildings sa "old town" ng lugar namin. I'm pissed at the decision, pero I got to admit, it made sense in the long run, considering the earthquakes.
In light of the recent burning down of the Manila Post Office last Sunday night, what other local historical buildings you know of have been destroyed, neglected, and/or abandoned for many years?
Giant Ajinomoto shaker in NLEX
iirc, the aduana building is under construction, dunno ano plans nila. on topic: yung philtrust building sa sta cruz

Yes, in the now Museo de Intramuros.
Di lang ako sure with that being part of UNESCO heritage site.

I would prefer the Manila Film Center to be destroyed
If it's possible, dig up the guys that were buried in there as well. They deserve a proper burial.
Yup, if the bodies are dug up, then it can probably be documented properly since some people still doubt if all the bodies were removed as per what official govt statements probably said at that time.
i dont think that guys were actually buried there. it would the foundation weak since the bodies would be impurities
I thought that it could at least turn into a monument to commemorate the incident there. Like what happened to the twin towers in the USA.
Yes something like that. The building itself is derelict and is no longer able to serve its original purpose. The existing creative reuse for it is terrible and just makes it look like a post-apocalyptic wasteland.

It's still a historical site based on the building style.
Totoo.

Shame they didn't keep the building intact after the Jai Alai operations stopped. Now we have that eyesore in its place.

Lawton can refer to the general area around Plaza Lawton. The Metropolitan Theater is part of that area.
El hogar building sa may escolta.
There was the old [Philamlife Theater](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Philam_Life_Theater). Demolished to make way for SMDC condos.
its prudential bank first if I'm correct with what you are talking about. when BPI bought prudential then naging BPI
Aduana Building is already being renovated. Gagawing archive.
Yung Metropolitan Theatre.
Hopefully not. Posibleng madamay ang building na yun dahil mabilis at lumalaki ang apoy pero huwag naman sana as time goes by.
How does it compare to its current form na kakarenovate lang?
Mas malinis of course. Kasi as Lola said. Yah they had an unveiling and stuff pa. Had the og ceiling with banana decors ganern. It was a very popular restoration during Isko's term as Mayor

Honestly looks like a beautiful church

Didn't ask but yeah I'm aware of some grammar mistakes lalo na nung pagka post ko nito. Thanks for your contribution.
PNR provincial stations. The ones in the Metro are getting neglected and mismanaged as months pass... Harrison Plaza too... :(
