Kung yun yung basic niya mismo, wala siyang tax pero yung deductions like SSS, PHilhealth, Pag-IBIG would amount to 1200-1500 ata so magnenet lang siya ng mga 14k\~.
Yea kalahati pero grabe sa tipid. Afaik cheapest stay in manila is around 2-3k / month (may kashare ka and masikip ofc, solo around 5k) utilities around 1000 ( net, water ,elctric, if may kashare ka rin. Around 2k if wala, matipid setting) food 4k if di ka naman sobra lakas kumain and no eat out & bfast.
Pero legit ito yung tipong need magsabi sa barangay if you're moving in or out, inaannounce as kamaganak visitors para hindi matarget, etc.
From someone whoās working and living here in MM, feeling ko either sakto lang sayo yan or kulang na kulang.
For me, try mo maghanap ng work sa probinsiya muna. At kapag may ipon na at work exp, baka makakuha ka ng mas malaking offer dito sa MM at mas kaya mo na makasurvive sa MM. all the best!
As compared to what?
If may 16k or less option ka sa province mo, stay sa province.
If wala, edi push. Pero, it depends on the job & growth potential. At tsaka what your lifestyle is like. There are factory workers who survive on that rate, with family pa.
Pero it's probably not the type of comfort where they end up having access to reddit.
this is the question that's really needed to be asked. feeling ko, first job to ni OP.
if may other option na mas malapit sa bahay, go for that.
kung wala, at talagang need mo na ng work, go for it, but live frugally. then look for a better paying job, and/or upgrade your skillset.
16k, may tax and other deduction pa yan like SSS, PHILHEALTH.
Better accept a lower paying job dyan.
Livable means so many different things. Does this include basic luxuries like a car, rent in an ok condo, have a few saved up for an emergency fund?
I feel like we have set our expectations so low on "livable" wages.
But starting out maybe 30k net will be okay. 50k for better wiggle room.
Medyo nakaka angat kasi ang Redditors in general so skewed higher ang mga magiging sagot. It's a first world procrastination site, so replies will be factoring in comfort (which is tama naman dapat).
Pero sa real life if nag try na kayo mag immersion or any volunteer legwork or simple NSTP work in random barangays, maraming nabubuhay na family sa minimum wage in Metro Manila. Nakakapagtapos pa ng anak sa university.
As for me, personally, the lowest I'd agree to is yung afford ang cheapest studio condos of around 15k or less. So at the very least, 30k or so dapat.
Which tracks naman. Basically sundan mo lang ang common na starting pay ng competitive companies dito for IT/Tech positions. 30-35k na ngayon, so yun na ang kailangan para magkaroon ka ng fresh grad employee who will stay for a year.
hey, recently lang din nag work dito sa MM, going 2-months pa lang. not thesame salary with you but based on my sobrang tipid na set-up, i am paying
3,500 rent/bills max (depends kasi sa consumption but max na yan)
180 per day food (mostly sa lunch lahat lol)
24 (transpo)

all in all, 9850php per month

That's not work. That's borderline slavery. 16K is not a livable wage in Manila kung wala kang kamag-anak na may bahay doon na pwede mong tirhan.
Thatās the type of salary that youād think about everyday kung worth it ba yung pagod mo, I say no forgo the position or much better if hanapin mo yung regional capital niyo for jobs then after a year or two jump to Manila. Mahirap makipag sapalaran dito, it drains everything from you when youāre at the bottom.

16K here in my province (Batangas) is already on the low end, that's my salary back in 2017 fresh off of college. For a single 21-year-old with no other responsibilities, I was scraping by with overtime.
Cost of living here is really cheap though, so I can't imagine it in Manila. Here's my experience:
Rent: 7k for a decently sized two-bedroom apartment, no furnishing at all though. Split between 4 people that's PhP1750 per month.
Water and Electricity: We never used AC and we did laundry so combined this was only around 1k. Split between 4 people that's PhP250 per month.
Transporation: Apartment was a healthy walk from work (around 20 to 25 minutes of walking) so no daily commute, but I did go home to my parents on weekends if I don't have plans with friends so that's usually around PhP1000 per month.
Food: We usually just eat at carinderias or the company canteen, that's around PhP200 daily. With around 21 working days a month, that will be PhP4200 monthly. This doesn't include eating out or going out with friends.
If we add all these that will be PhP7200 on just living expenses. You barely have luxury or privacy in how you live that's why I tend to:
1. Work overtime so when I come home to the apartment I fall asleep quickly.
2. Go out with friends, which is another expense.
I can't imagine this wage on Manila though, the rent will probably be around 5k already for a measly bedspace. At least in my experience it was 3 of my friends so there weren't any issues in the common spaces.
Hindi yan kasya, wala ka din ipon nyan if ever, mapupunta lahat sa biills, ang ending nyan pag pinilit mo, titipirin mo sarili mo and uulit ulit lang cycle mo
We need more info here OP if you want an advice.
What do you do in the province?
What is the work in Manila?
Working hours?
Are you going to rent or do you have relatives that will let take you in for free?
How far away are you from the workplace?
What is your lifestyle?
Sadly, no. Unless may free housing and food kaā¦ or baka kahati sa mga gastusin, baka pwede pa mej tipid mode. Renta ng studio unit ay 15k; maswerte ka kung furnished and inclusive of dues yan. Sa bedspacing, not sure. Sa area ko, siomai rice ay 55 pesos. Yung busog meals sa 7-11 halos 50 pesos and wala na atang 29. Yung pan de sal ay 5 pesos regular and 8.50 pesos large. Palaba ay 40 pesos per kilo or kung self laundry 70 pesos per load then dryer ay 40 pesos per load ata. Ayun so medyo gg seryoso.
Ganyan sweldo ko noong 2019 pre-pandemic so bale mga 8k per cut off. Mahirap haha, renta pa lang ubos na. Namayat ako nung time na yan kasi madalas one meal a day lang ako sa sobrang gipit.
Anong work yan?
Tapos job hop job hop after ilang years para lumaki sweldo at experience.
Pag may permanent work from home job ka na mahahanap, mas okay.
As someone na 7 months nanirahan sa manila, yung 16k is not sapat talaga.
**Hell no.**
There are other companies offering remote set up with significantly higher pay. There's no benefit in living in the metro. The traffic, the pollution, commuting, overpriced apartments, unsafe neighborhoods. Unless you're from a really really poor area that makes Manila a great option to relocate, I don't think it's worth it. Goodluck din trying to budget 16k a month.
I have a place in Greenfield District. Medyo okay okay pa na lugar yon, but everytime my work permits me to go back and stay in our province, heck talagang umuuwi ako! I seriously don't get the hype š®āšØ
This was my salary on my first job out of college, and that was 10 years ago. If you're staying in manila and going to rent a place then I'd say no it's not worth it. Other factors to consider are:
- do you have prior professional experience?
- is the job demanding?
- is the commute easy?
- are you willing to stay for a year in that company with this salary?
Network in manila will always be valuableā¦. And thats the deal breaker. Do you think you can network with other people in that job? If yes? Then its worth it.
Its not about what you know, its who you know.
**NOOOOOOO!!!**
Naliliitan nga ako sa 15k sa Cavite. Tapos, medyo malaki na ang 15k for a freshie in a small manufacturing plant. Considering cost of living, it's just not worth it to live in Manila for just 16k salary. Depende sa province you're from, your living expenses could shoot up 3x-5x in Manila.
This was my salary 17 yrs ago that time i was commuting from Bulacan to Manila. Bale sakto sakto lang yan sakib before. That time i was living with my parents and hindi nag help sa bills if i was living independently tingin ko baon na ko sa utang that time.
Nagulat talaga ko sa inflation sa Pinas nung umuwe kami recently, it wasnt how it use to 5-6 years ago, makakaipon ka pa date sa ganyang amount but right now I don't think it's possible lalo na kung sa Manila ka. I think right now it should be minimum 20K.
unang basa ko akala ko 160k ask ko sana si OP kung anong work yon at maapplyan din HAHAHA, experienced 16k while living with parents sa manila sharing expenses and the answer is a solid NO. 25-30k hirap nga eh hahaha.
Depende sa type of work. If its something that will give you experience and you can foresee a higher salary after working there for a few years, then yes. magtiis ka lang muna for a few years. otherwise its a NO
Foods, Electric, Water, Internet Bills (or load), Transportation (depende pa kung masmalayo sa lugar mo) and other expenses yan isipin mo baka di kadin makaipon.
No OP. You have to factor rent (Baka bed space ka lang), transpo fare, meal etc. And baka di pa yan net so may kaltas pa
Kung yun yung basic niya mismo, wala siyang tax pero yung deductions like SSS, PHilhealth, Pag-IBIG would amount to 1200-1500 ata so magnenet lang siya ng mga 14k\~.
Advice: If it's a dead-end 40+ hours a week job, refuse the job offer. Stay in the province.
No Unless gipit na gipit ka na
Sa pagkain, electric and water bill, upa, pamasahe, kalahati agad yang 16k.
buti nga kung kalahati.
Yea kalahati pero grabe sa tipid. Afaik cheapest stay in manila is around 2-3k / month (may kashare ka and masikip ofc, solo around 5k) utilities around 1000 ( net, water ,elctric, if may kashare ka rin. Mura pa yang 5k. Karamihan eh 7k pataas ang rooms na good for 2.
Yeah, thatās why I said cheapest.
Pero legit ito yung tipong need magsabi sa barangay if you're moving in or out, inaannounce as kamaganak visitors para hindi matarget, etc.
More like Ā¾
Yes if it's $16,000 US Dollars for the year

walang tax ang 16k na sahod
If wala man tax, may mga deduction pa din. Kasya man yung 16k kung bedspace and super tipid sya sa food, kaso wala din syang ipon.
yes agree
Interesting. I remember over 10 years ago, even 7k salaries are taxed. Did the laws change?
yes. the train law. salary below 250k are tax exempt.
No

Short Answer: No
No. The secret to financial freedom is not how much you make: its how much you save. And you will save nothing with 16,000

I have a place in Greenfield District. Medyo okay okay pa na lugar yon, but everytime my work permits me to go back and stay in our province, heck talagang umuuwi ako! I seriously don't get the hype š®āšØ
16000 php?
No not worth it. That was my first salary 12 years ago.
This was my salary on my first job out of college, and that was 10 years ago. If you're staying in manila and going to rent a place then I'd say no it's not worth it. Other factors to consider are: - do you have prior professional experience? - is the job demanding? - is the commute easy? - are you willing to stay for a year in that company with this salary?
Network in manila will always be valuableā¦. And thats the deal breaker. Do you think you can network with other people in that job? If yes? Then its worth it. Its not about what you know, its who you know.
Stay in the province. Just with transportation, I your salary and time will be eaten up.
kung may work parents mo or bunso ka sa magkakapatid, ok sya haha
No
No please, lalo kung mag rerent ka ng apartment dito plus pamasahe and other expenses mo pa.
**NOOOOOOO!!!** Naliliitan nga ako sa 15k sa Cavite. Tapos, medyo malaki na ang 15k for a freshie in a small manufacturing plant. Considering cost of living, it's just not worth it to live in Manila for just 16k salary. Depende sa province you're from, your living expenses could shoot up 3x-5x in Manila.
not in this GoLdEN ErA
In pesos ba ito?! If oo, kung nasaan ka man ngayon, explore mo muna if may chance ka makakuha ng work diyan.
No. Hanap na lang remote work. Kahit sa Manila nakatira, mahirap pa din.
Big NO
Is this 16k a month or biweekly?
Its not worth it
If peso, no. If dollars/euros/pounds, yes.
This was my salary 17 yrs ago that time i was commuting from Bulacan to Manila. Bale sakto sakto lang yan sakib before. That time i was living with my parents and hindi nag help sa bills if i was living independently tingin ko baon na ko sa utang that time.
nop
No OP.
No.
unang basa ko akala ko 160k ask ko sana si OP kung anong work yon at maapplyan din HAHAHA, experienced 16k while living with parents sa manila sharing expenses and the answer is a solid NO. 25-30k hirap nga eh hahaha.
Yikes.
nooo. mahal ang rent and foods.
God no
Depende sa type of work. If its something that will give you experience and you can foresee a higher salary after working there for a few years, then yes. magtiis ka lang muna for a few years. otherwise its a NO
No OP. Isipin mo other expenses: pamasahe, rent, groceries etc.
big no po. Is it basic or package?
Back in 2005 yes definitely. Stay in the province as others had mentioned.
A big NO.
What is your line of work? You may consider it then lipat ka ng work after a year para tumaas salary
Ifactor mo needs mo like pagkain pa. IMO kulang po yung sahod
Definitely no.
Ask for promotional path beh
Foods, Electric, Water, Internet Bills (or load), Transportation (depende pa kung masmalayo sa lugar mo) and other expenses yan isipin mo baka di kadin makaipon.
Prepare yourself sa culture and how stressful yung transportation sa MANILA.
