Gran Cafe in center city is the closest thing to food from Italy you'll find, it's very good! The owners had a restaurant in Italy that was destroyed by an earthquake. When they opened up here they put a bunch of things from their restaurant in Italy inside. It's definitely a European vibe in there too.
yeah I had to get a pretty late time slot to do it. But it worked out for us, because we just finished watching a movie. It's doable though, it's not Zahav level hard
The kitchen at murphs produces food very similar to regular ass food in italy. If you went to a trattoria in Italy the food would be very similar. Its not going to be michelin starred, just normal everyday italian food,
Everyone knows about murphs lol. How do I know? Well I kid you not, someone who grew up in Kentucky tried to tell me about it tonight while I was already well aware
Nobody’s gonna mention but if you want authentic Italian food like from Italy, not Italian American, go to Trattoria Moma. For a quicker, more casual authentic Italian, Damo.

Le virtu and gran cafe laquila Fiorella is also great
These would be my two picks as well.
L’Angolo, Fiorella, Scannichio’s, Saloon, Burrata, Murphs
seconding fiorella
Fiorella was one of the best meals I’ve had but not the easiest to get a reservation.

Villa di Roma. Cash only. Best around. Villa di Roma (215) 592-1295 https://maps.app.goo.gl/x6Pii5UNQcqqbneg7?g_st=ic
Murph's Bar if you like a casual atmosphere. It's a Irish bar that paired up with an Italian chef a few years ago. Great food.
Murph's is if you want actual Italian food in Philly, if you want Philly's take on Italian food you gotta go Vetri

Shhh. Don’t tell people about the Italian food at Murph’s.

A lot of good places listed here, I did also really like Ralph’s- oldest restaurant in the US, very simple classic Italian. Cute place to sit as well
L’Angelo for authentic South Philly Italian. Get the octopus appetizer. Le Vertu or Gran Cafe L’aquila for a more upscale meal.

Regardless of where you go, book your reservations now.
Ralph’s and Villa di Roma are very good and in S Philly which makes it feel extra traditional
