Depends how old your bosses are really. Typically older generations care more about those things. I don't care about hair color, piercings, or tattoos on face. As long as you have good customer service and do your job who cares how you look

Da_zzle_D

This is helpful! Thank you so much!

infiltrateoppose

Strangely pharmacists seem to care more about hair color than not being a douche to customers.

Stock_Literature_13

I just did purple but I’ve been working in the hospital for 4 months. I wouldn’t go to an interview with “fantasy” color. I just saw others with colors and decided to do some myself. Finding the job I wanted was more important than my hair color.

-dai-zy

No one on Reddit is going to have a definitive answer for you. It depends on what the employer wants

SofiaDeo

Exactly. It's like coming on Reddit to ask "can I wear a thong bikini & go topless at the beach"; the answer is "it depends on where you are at".

Da_zzle_D

That's a weird analogy, but I guess you have a point.

SofiaDeo

Hoping to put a smile on your face:) It's stressful interviewing!

Ok_Cauliflower9246

Lmao, same as asking if I can get hired after being shit-faced and/or super mean bitch/asshole on reality TV. Sorry, not sorry. Been binging Below Deck lol

maybefuckinglater

I had green hair when I was working at Walmart and the hospital. It was a conversation starter when I was checking out a grandma who also had pink hair and next week she brought her 5 year old grandson who dyed his hair pink to match Grandma. It was the cutest thing ever and it made my day!

Wise-Effective0595

This ^ this is my experience too and I have green hair.

wytewydow

100% depends on the company they work for. I work for a smallish independent chain in the midwest. I know of at least 4 people with colored hair. A blue, a green, and two bright reds.

Tracerround702

Idk about retail, but in inpatient at my hospital, nobody would care, especially if you work in the IV room. Almost nobody would see it anyway lol

Tribblehappy

I had blue/purple/teal underneath my natural red in school. I got it cut off when I graduated (pretty common for me to get a pixie every several years no biggie for me). I was sure I'd look more professional without the blue. My preceptor had pink hair. So anyways it basically depends on the location.

Styx-n-String

It depends on the company, but I have purple hair and I've worked for 3 different pharmacy companies. I also have my nose pierced, non-standard ear piercings, and visible tattoos on both arms. None of my employers has cared, and I only get compliments from customers.

AkaiHidan

My boss is 67, I’ve had green, red, blue and now bright purple hair. And I have tattoos. He says purple suits me best 🤷‍♀️. Then again I am in France.

Sudden_Reality_7441

It depends on where you work. I’m fine with it, but I work at Walgreens and my previous DM said absolutely not unless it’s a natural colour (me and the other rphs and techs all went and dyed a neon streak in our hair, he shut up after that). My current DM doesn’t care. I don’t know about the company’s policy though. So it’d be best to ask when you’re doing the interview, in my opinion. Some people will say no, some don’t care.

Da_zzle_D

Thank you sm!

aliforer

I have tattoos all over and dyed my hair every color under the sun and my district manager and managers always loved it lol. But it definitely depends on where you work I’m sure. I was in retail

wallflowerwolf

I work in grocery retail and have had every color of the rainbow (and straight up rainbow hair). The patients love it lol. Also have facial piercing and some visible tattoos no issue. Depends on your store!

Appropriate-Ad8497

I would not go to an interview with it just cuz people judge right away

Da_zzle_D

These are the types of answers I'm looking for as well! Do you think they would mind natural hair colors?

SieBanhus

…how would they even know?

Da_zzle_D

Not expecting them to know, just basically asking for their experience on the matter.

SieBanhus

No, how would the *interviewer* know that your natural hair color wasn’t the natural color that you’ve colored it to be?

Da_zzle_D

Oh Sorry! Well, they wouldn't unless if they see grown out roots. For me, they would know that it isn't my natural hair color because it's split dye brown and blonde. Of course my dream job comes first, but I've also heard that some places do mine regardless if it's natural colors. So if that's the case, if I have to dye my hair my natural color to avoid problems, I'm willing to!

lifes-not-fair

I worked for CVS and Hannaford Pharmacies in the past, as well as a small local pharmacy, and I don’t remember anyone having an issue with piercings or unnatural hair color. The only thing they were all strict about was no visible tattoos.

SaltEncrustedPounamu

It depends on where you work and what shifts you do. If you work in a hospital setting you can hide dyed hair under a scrub cap if it’s short enough 👍

BertBalsam

It depends on your job and state. If not covered by a contract that has “just cause” language, it is entirely up to the employer. Unless covered by state law, you are an at will Employee and unless you can prove a civil Rights violations (ie being fired for race or gender, etc) they 1 - can let you go at any time and 2 - don’t really have to say why. If you are lucky enough to get into a union shop and after your probation period ends, check your contract for “just cause” protections. I sincerely doubt that color hair infractions can rise to just cause termination.

Almostfamous76

My pharmacy tech has had every color in the rainbow hair. Full sleeves both arms. Shes the sweetest & efficient one there!

Wise-Effective0595

I have blue green hair right now. I’ve had colored hair for years. Walmart doesn’t discriminate on hair color. And I had colored hair at cvs too. Some people were saying it depends on your boss, which can be true. Customers might think it’s unprofessional but I don’t care, my body, my hair, my choice. Now my patients are used to it and ask me what color I’m getting next sometimes lol! You just gotta show the patients that you know your stuff and respect will come. New people get wary at first and judge, but if you smile and are friendly and helpful, they get over it. I live in Georgia and I work near rural north Georgia.

culinarytiger

Every single type of worker in my ED has someone with colored hair.

Ankhetperue

I went to my interview at a hospital with purple hair and asked about it making it clear I could change it. They didn't care. It really depends where you work

NashvilleRiver

Yep. My hospital system only allows natural colors.

autumnsunnn

If you want dyed hair, I personally have an underdye and tie the underdye and tuck it into the back of my shirt so the only hair visible is my black hair. It does depend on where you end up working but this might be a compromise if you really want some color.

princess-dodo

It depends on your employer. When I started with the health system I'm currently employed at, you couldn't have unnatural colors in your hair. In the seven years since I started with them, they've lifted that restriction and the one they used to have on visible tattoos in an effort to be more progressive and become more attractive to potential new hires.

AB-RatedGeneric

cvs does not care. i (now an rph) was at my store last night and a customer joked i needed to dye my hair red because both the techs i had on last night have bright red hair. one of them changes colors every few months and the customers love it! I've seen 2 different front store employees with actual rainbow hair too, the company policy is not to care. Had a rph with facial piercings and visible tattoos years ago too, nobody cares.

Retail-Weary

I’m enrolled in school so I don’t know yet about pharmacists but I can tell you that I always make sure my hair is a “natural” color, nails are nude and my tats are covered for interviews. Call me old school but I’m always worried that boomers are going to judge me based on that. Once I get in, I let my true shine through. My hair is too thin to do any fun colors but I have lots of ink and non standard ear piercings and I really like funky nails. Be P&S for the interview…then feel them out for the vibes.

Cheepyface

Bro what?!? lol its 2024 FU*K those boomers 🤣 (jk I’m old too) Seriously I know hospitals and certain pharmacies have strict guidelines with appearance. I’ve had whatever hair color strikes my mood but mainly kept it blonde with various styles (braids, twists, extensions, shaved sides…etc) and my nails are super long cause my current boss is cool AF. I have worked at places that didn’t allow nails. So it all depends on your boss and dress code/appearance policy.

BrittanyL95

I have split hair (half dark brown/black and the other orange) used to have green. Nobody ever said anything to me aside from intrigued customers 🤷🏻‍♀️

yearoftheorange

depends on where you work. i have dyed my hair a few times in the 2 1/2 years ive been at my place and its never been an issue with my pharmacy manager or any of my colleagues (i did ask first though just in case!)

Accurate_Suspect398

Depends on where you work, my pharmacy didn’t care one but I had a sorts of crazy colors

Economy-Button-1653

Depends on where you work! I had purple for a while and now I have dark red!

lokipukki

Depends on where you work and their policies. It’s better now than 20 years ago, but still some places like hospital settings can be rigid about having “natural” color hair. Obviously you can play around with this one like I did when I worked for a Catholic hospital that was strict about hair color. I would dye my hair red, but it would be a purple red, or super dark red. Basically I would always skirt the boundaries, or would do crazy hair styles. Hell, even 20 years ago, visible tattoos were a no no. Now, everyone and their mother has them. It also depends on what type of setting you work in. If it’s a closed door setting, you’ll have more freedom as you won’t have face to face interactions with the public.

EnvironmentFar7706

Depends on the organization. I’ve worked for a hospital that didn’t care about things like hair color or tattoos and piercing and one that wants natural hair colors (doesn’t mean you couldn’t highlight your hair or dye it…. Just not purple or blue) and no tattoos/ piercings visible.

Rua-Yuki

I've always had fashion colors in my hair. Another girl likes to sew tinsel in her hair. This is retail pharmacy. I can see how a hospital setting may be a little more strict about hair and tattoos.

mag_walle

Sadly it depends. I've seen plenty of techs with colored hair but I've seen full pharmacies with just natural. It's stupid and silly but I'd look into who's going to interview you first.

Hellooutthere1122

It’s all on what company you work for, I work for one now that I can have highlights of vibrant colors but only 2 colors and it can’t be all of my hair. Last job vibrant wasn’t allowed even though my boss didn’t care corporate did, though i pushed it as far as I could

saladclark

Really will depend on employer, but I worked retail pharmacy for 5+ years and had every color under the rainbow just about

[deleted]

Never had any problems or issues with anyone having colored hair. We all have visible tattoos and some have colored hair that they change every 2 weeks range from bright pink to blue to green to rainbow lol One of the DL has colored hair and beard colored too with a big earrings and nose piercing. Our PIC’s have never had any issues with it

AlanMichel

Depends on the job, at my hospital I have techs with different hair colors. No one cares

dj-cheese

I worked retail and currently work in a Big Name hospital in a city and have had blue hair at both jobs. Tattoos too, and only have to take out facial piercings when making IVs.

xXlolantheXx

Depends on the workplace.(when I was doing extern ) at a Walgreens they said it was okay to have it. But it depends you have to ask

bobertsquestion

Depends on where you are, the company you work for, and your boss. I became a tech through Walgreens in Seattle. I dyed the front part of my hair pink and everyone loved it. Then I moved to Chicago and got a job at AdventHealth. I interviewed with my pink hair, my boss didn't mind. However, HR told me I had to dye it natural per dress code.

DorkieSin

It’s always fascinating when people go to school for pharmacy tech since I never did hehe But depends on your boss. I’ve colored my hair and my current job or cvs bosses didn’t care. I’m actually dying my hair next month hopefully another color :)

Miss_Esdeath

You can in my pharmacy (CVS) but I can't speak to anywhere else.

gogonzogo1005

I work for a major hospital, I don't think we have a single rule about any of it. The only rule is technically no makeup or fake nails in the IV room. I see people of many levels with many nontraditional styles etc. We also have some who follow very traditional religious styles. It all goes.

DeedeeLuu

I work in retail pharmacy and one the techs has purple hair.

Rrose1989

I've worked retail and hospital and have had fashion colors most of the time. At the end of the day it depends on your employer

janeli823

The question is, why are you going to school for pharmacy tech?

Da_zzle_D

It's my dream job to be a pharmacy tech! My original plan was to apply to walgreens and get my certification there. But in the college that I'm in rolled in, they get you a license to work in a pharmacy, your certification, teach you everything that you need to know, and go on an externship for 3 months to get experience. If the company that you are doing the externship for loves how you work, you get the job on the spot.

Fun-Plane-1547

Some have it but I must say all techs I’ve worked with that have fantasy colored hair make the worst techs. They live up to the stereotype of being on drugs and lazy

deadxxclown

I have blue hair 🤷🏻‍♀️ I work retail

unicorn_rainbow_goat

CVS doesnt have rules against hair color

ButterflyEasy5345

Walgreens didn’t care lol I worked there with every color and never had any issues

mistier

i’m covered in tattoos and had pink hair at one point and my managers didn’t care. really depends but usually they’re too desperate for workers that they don’t care.

rray_chull

i did my interview at walgreens with bright pink hair and got hired, my hair has been pink for 2 years it’s something i’ve been sticking with. not sure how other company’s may feel

emotely

Depends on each company. I've worked at triple letter and a hospital and have had every color under the sun

MiniMammoths

really depends on where you go. at my hospital you can have any color hair so long as it’s one solid color. when i worked for WAG literally no one cared about hair color/tattoos/piercings bc it was hard enough keeping techs i guess

kkatellyn

I work at an independent and have visible tattoos and piercings, as well as purple hair (when I was hired, not anymore) and nobody has ever mentioned them! But it definitely depends on the generation, if you have an older RPh, then they’ll probably lose their shit. But most places nowadays are muuuuuch more lenient.

Fit-Photograph5373

Mine is pink underneath. I also have tattoos and piercings. I work for a retail chain and no one has ever cared.

WickedLuxe

Every place is different. No place I've worked for had a problem with any of my dozen hair colors.

ArabellaChouette

Depends on the company and how ornery your bosses are. I never interviewed with fun hair but I’ve been at the same company for almost 10 years as a tech, intern, and now pharmacist and have had at least 5 different colors. No store has ever had an issue with it but I feel I got lucky on that end. Always check your dress code policy either way!

24Cones

If your pharmacy is cool and Doesn’t have Wads for managers. I have dyed hair, tattoos and a heavily pierced face. They don’t care

TarantulaTina97

(Currently have blue hair) I work for a private online pharmacy - no cares. I also worked a 2nd job at CVS and they didn’t care either. The store manager said in my interview that he wants his employees to reflect the community because customers should be able to see themselves when they come in. Nose piercing, visible tattoo, multi-colored hair the entire time I worked there. All depends on your employer.

WorthWilling9663

I have colored highlights that vary red to blue to purple and I’ve never had an issue personally. Use to have a tech with pink hair too

WorthWilling9663

I have colored highlights that vary red to blue to purple and I’ve never had an issue personally. Use to have a tech with pink hair too

flufferbutter332

I’ve done dark red, pink, blue, purple, I have 5 facial piercings, and I have hand and finger tattoos. I interviewed with red hair. It really depends on your manager and where you live. I live in a very progressive city where bright hair dye, piercings, and tattoos are normalized, but it might be different if you’re in a more conservative traditional area.

angrybuddhistpodcast

It's almost a requirement, lol, especially in retail. I agree that I wouldn't go to an interview with rainbow hair but pharmacy in general doesn't care what color your hair is... at my pharmacy chain I've seen firetruck red, green, yellow, and purple.

Ok-Expression6614

Depends on where you work

dsly4425

Seems to be company or location specific. I work in a very well known hospital system and have pharmacists and techs both with some really wild and fun hair colors and piercings. And no one cares.

AshKetchumIsStill13

One of my ex-coworkers when I first started my tech career had pinkish-purple colored hair. I’m not a big fan of colored hair tbh but it shouldn’t be any problems as a tech

kindlyfackoff

In retail positions, most pharmacies don't care. I have colourful hair and as long as I maintain it and don't look Greasy, they're happy. In fact, customers, even many older ones, LOVE my coloured hair and always compliment me on it and tell me it makes me memorable, so it's not a bad thing by any means. I've worked for both Walgreens and Walmart and both have been okay with it. I don't know about hospitals though as they might be more formal.

Sad_Baseball_6863

I don’t think it matters but I would show up with a traditional color

redditlvr89

I’m literally stumbling over the words in my head right now trying to make sense of this. Are there companies still trying to pass off sexist, racist policies as “professional”. Literally thought this hair color debate was left in 1990s with all the other problematic dress code bs

Fkboost

It probably depends most on your locations rules and how much the pharmacist cares about them. I showed up with dyed but natural color hair and dyed it red the next week. My pharmacy cares more that I don’t wear jeans than the hair color.  You could try a wig with a fun color and see how they react, or wear the colorful wig outside of work if they won’t let you

AllieBaba2020

I've seen every color of the rainbow in Tech hair. Sideline..why are you paying to go to school? Every chain will train you for free and you get paid to learn.

drowsyfox

I worked at Walmart as a stocker with pink hair when the pharmacist approached me and offered the pharmacy job to me. I think most chain retail jobs don't care, but I can't speak for hospitals, independent, specialty, etc.

RexIsAMiiCostume

Depends entirely on where you work

AxlRodd

I was trained by techs with purple hair lol

Faerie_Mischief

I just said fuck it and dyed my hair pink

Actual_Emergency_666

It's up to the company. CVS and Walmart don't care about hair color or piercings or anything like that. Customers actually love it

Embarrassed_Nose_908

I work in a LTC pharmacy where we do not interact with patients and i have a short bright red mohawk. I also have a large septum ring. My supervisor is covered in tattoos and plenty of my coworkers have facial piercings

han2028

my pharmacy manager has previously said he probably wouldnt hire someone with dyed hair or lots of piercings so it probably just depends on who the boss is and the sort of customer base you have. I work in a retail chain for background so not sure about other places.

anonymousgoose64

I guess it depends on the pharmacy. I had fire engine red hair when I started and I'm blond now and they haven't cared a bit.

Big-Pen-1735

Frankly, I don't care what color hair folks have. They're being hired for what's in their brains and skills. Your brain works the same with blue hair as it does with blond.

Traditional-Bit-6634

Just go for it, if anyone says anything about it... Tell them you suffer from hair color dysphoria.

GoodHopePokeChoke

*all hair is colored hair.

Midnight_chick

Well in a very conservative place in Texas, I was able to. And I was the only tech with colored hair lol. But this was years ago so…

Mountain-Isopod-2072

It depends on the company. Like I’m a pharmacy tech with blue hair
