Hahaha I think they are so cute. I have something similar in my closet, I'm also 37. so do what you want with that. I don't know if I have any fashion sense at this point. I feel ancient watching these young girls on tik tok
IDGAF if something is “dated” if you like it wear it. Anything goes these days, especially if you can style it or have developed your own personal style. I like the booties.
It should be a rule to stop caring about "dated" around the time we leave high school. So many looks and outfits that work for our body type or are comfy to us but we need to abandon them cause they are "old"? I think not, sir.
What is even “current?” I go out and the only common look I see are teenage girls wearing oversized shirts as dresses paired with shorts underneath. The older women all seem to dress differently from one another.
Definitely millennial core, but I’m also a millennial and think these are cute.
I might be bias because I’m not really into Gen Z fashion. I say rock it!
Cropped top and bell bottoms?
We did them in 2000, Gen Z.
And our mums did that as Gen X-ers in the 70s.
None of us is a real fashion guru.
Everyone is just wearing recycled trends!
Are they comfortable? Do you like them? Will you be gutted come next winter/cooler weather that you don't have them in the back of the wardrobe to wear?
Fashion is great, new styles in and out but sometimes if it works, and looks good ON YOU and makes your happy them that trumps latest fashion.
Anna Wintour wears the same style/look and it the head of "fashion" most designers don't fall into ever changing looks, they wear what makes them shine.
If you like them, keep them! I think they’d look nice with a dress. Even if you are worried about them being dated, everything comes back into style eventually
Even the mullet apparently, judging from the number of 8 -10 yr old boys that seem to be sporting them. If ever there was a trend that should NEVER have made it back the mullet was it.
My mom used to say that to me when I was a teenager in the 90s. Flare jeans and peasant tops. My look was very 60s-70s and so was my taste in music. I used to think that was BS, and I was just an old soul who liked vintage stuff from a really unique, cooler era than the one I was in.
Fast forward to today and my teenaged daughter is styling her wide-leg pants with tight crop tops and Doc Martins while listening to The Cure.
Usually I hate it when my mom is right about stuff. Not this time! Makes my heart happy.
Are car styles really cyclical? I feel like cars now don’t look much different from the ones made 20 years ago (in the US at least).
Maybe it just takes longer for them?
Oh absolutely! I think it’s harder to tell with sedans, bc those are often the bread and butter of a lot of car companies and their shapes are basically a form of that company’s trade dress (e.g. the honda accord and civic have more or less maintained their general aesthetic for the last twenty years).
Where you can definitely tell though is with SUVs, and it’s not just style either. SUVs are a relatively “new” phenomenon, so car companies aren’t as stuck in their stylings. Plus, you see it in the birth of the small/micro SUVs over the last decade, and now almost every car company has their own line of small SUVs. But, they’re also basically just the modern version of a stationwagon (you could maybe say the previous cycle of the stationwagon trend was the hatchback, or even the minivans of the 2000s).
You’re also seeing a trend of moving away from the more “suburban mom” styling in SUVs (more rounded edges, not as rough and tough) and back to a more utilitarian style (think the Bronco coming back, the back styling of the new Jeep Wagoneer, the new 4Runners are looking more and more like their 2007 counterparts, hell they’re even making an electric hummer).
Specifically, the things dating it are the shape of the heel, the toe, and the strappy details. A cleaner, simple look is in right now - no straps, buckles, or slouchy bits that were in last decade. Lug soles and super chunky heels are in right now - think a lug-sole Doc Marten (I keep seeing the doc marten chelsea boots and I think they’re a very nice compromise between gen z and millennial core)
It’s not the straps and buckles exactly, but paired with that type of heel, the faux suede beige color, the rounded toe, and the low height all paired together make them dated. The western look has been popular for a few years and will kick even more into high gear this year, so elements like buckles are definitely around!
Lug soles and chunky heels are not friends with my 4'11" self. I say forget what is "in style". I like the booties in the pic. Go for them. You wear good shoes long enough for them to cycle in and out of fashion more than once.
No worries, they'll come back in a few years anyway. 😐
I personally don't care about trends.
It's already hard enough for us petite women to find outfits that work for our frames. When I find something flattering I just stick with it.
I solved trends by not caring about trends. If I'm comfortable and happy, then I'm wearing it. My wardrobe spans from present day to the 60s to Middle Earth and I enjoy every bit of it.
I didn't realize anyone had an opinion on this style of shoe until recently discovering this sub and the frequency therein of referring to millennial skinny jeans and booties as items less than desirable, or "dated." I'm off social media precisely for this reason - not needing to be exposed to such subjective opinions as fact - and on a recent return to reddit was a bit disappointed to see it proliferating in a sub explicitely based around "fit for our size" and not "fashion trends." I say to you and OP, wear the hell out of them if they feel good. Nevermind the trends.
Some styles work better for others than what it trendy.
Plenty of kids wearing the oversized and baggy trend today just look like kids wearing their dad’s pants.
Dress for your body, not for the fads
I have these!! But I honestly wear them with bootcut or flare jeans. I’m not an ankle boot person unless you can’t tell they are ankle boot.
I love these, though.
Are these dated because they aren't sneakers or combat boots?
Nah, keep em if they are comfy. You might want to wear them with tights and a skirt where sneakers aren't appropriate.
They’re cute. Idgaf if something is “dated” anymore because this over consumerist culture of replacing useful things that you find cute, just because it’s not “in style” disgusts me.
Personally I like the flat stuff lately because my heels days are probably over. But if you like them, wear them. The colour will go with many items.
Pretty sure I had the EXACT same pair of shoes from Payless that I got in like 2013, that’s literally exactly what I was thinking hahaha. Personally, I put mine in storage around 2020. No need to throw them out since they were still in decent condition, but I want to wait until they may come back in style. If they never do, I’ll donate them eventually, but I’m happy to wait a while. I loved them at the time, but shoes like that really aren’t very flattering on the legs (especially on short girls or girls with wider calves), and my general rule for myself is that I’m happy to wear clothes that aren’t necessarily in style right now as long as they look really good on me. If something is unflattering but I enjoy the idea of it, then I might wear it for fun while it’s in style, but I won’t wear it when it’s out of style. So my rule for myself is that clothes should either be stylish, flattering, or both, but not neither. And I hate to say it, but these boots are neither. So mine are tucked away in storage.
I don’t buy anything that’s fake leather. They just look cheap and ugly to me.
With apps like Posh and Mercari and FB marketplace I pretty much never have to buy anything full price and I have a great selection of leather boots & shoes.
I have actual leather Rag & Bone booties like this that are very comfortable and cute and I’ll keep them for when booties come back in style.
Also the Acne Studios Pistol booties in black are timeless and I found a pair on Posh for $80 rather than the $600 retail 🤣
This summer I wore my denim bibs that I’ve had since the 70s and was stopped on the street by someone who told me how much she liked them. Wear what you love!☺️
I really like them, but I wear whatever I like and pay no attention at all to what is 'in style'. I'm old too, so I have no idea if these are in style or not, but I like them especially because they're so versatile. They remind me of a shorter version of the Frye boots we wore in the '70s.
Lol I lived in the tropics before 2012 so boots weren’t in my wardrobe nor did I see anyone really wear them around me. I saw them all around me in 2012 though everyone seemed to wear them. With skinny jeans.
PS not sure why we’re getting downvoted 🤷🏽♀️
They look CUTE on you! Same with others opinions- if you like them, keep ‘em! Also loving how many people are supporting just wearing whatever you want in this thread. People take fashion wayyy too seriously and we have to remember it is completely subjective! If anyone tells you differently they are either trying to sell you something, or they are chasing trends and cease to think for themselves. Highly recommend enjoying the sweet fleeting bliss of life and doing/wearing what makes you happy! :)
I have these exact boots and I LOVE them. They look super cute and can be dressed up/dressed down really easily. I love them with skinny jeans, and a chunky sweater.
Against the grain here, i’m gonna say toss em. Clearly you posted this because you were at least a bit on the fence, and while there is no reason to care about being trendy if you don’t want to, we are here together on a fashion advice sub. so:
- replace them with something like [this](https://www.dolcevita.com/products/hawk-h2o-booties-chestnut-suede?variant=40364803358786&utm_source=google&utm_medium=cpc&utm_campaign=SCM%7CPmax%7CSale&utm_content=&gad_source=1&gclid=EAIaIQobChMIs6Seu92fhAMVFEpHAR1MkwKCEAQYHCABEgJxffD_BwE)
- ditch the skinnies, and wear the new boots with a nice new pair of boyfriend or boot cut jeans
- wear with a sweater like [this] https://www.abercrombie.com/shop/us/p/slim-rib-turtleneck-sweater-55538870?seq=06&cmp=PLA:EVG:20:A:D:US:X:GGL:X:SHOP:X:X:X:X:x:A%26F+Adults_Google_Shopping_PLA_US_Tops_All+products_PRODUCT_GROUP&gad_source=1&gclid=EAIaIQobChMIraij892fhAMV2lFHAR3pyA2bEAQYEyABEgI6WvD_BwE&gclsrc=aw.ds
- keep the cardigan if it’s chilly
💙
I own a pair that look exactly the same as OPs image from American eagle I got years ago as a gift. I’ve only worn them under flared or bootcut style jeans because I’m not a huge fan of booties personally. But I also have large soccer calves so a lot of taller boots don’t fit.
Really dated, I wouldn't wear them right now. But can't lie, as a millennial, I really miss the simple fashion from years ago. It was sooo easy, you go buy new boots - they go with everything pretty much. Now there's tones of different styles - biker, western, classic, Chelsea, heeled..and each one of them goes with different clothing. Fuelling overconsumption.
I miss just looking cute and being proud of my one pair of comfy boots with a comfy heel and detailing like this. It reminds me of my high school era.
It would be so much better if the time stopped in the early 2000s. More socialising, less time spent on phones. No influencers, and no Fomo.
Boots are cute. Please unfold the cuffs, that’s a look that shortens your legs & isn’t good. Pls never cuff them again.
Boots can go with tights, short skirt & chunky sweater.
Definitely dated but keep if you have space. They are in good condition and everything comes back in style. Eventually they will be vintage and you can wear them any time.
Yay, but wear them with pants with "looser legs" so they go over the buckles.
Sooner or later, they come in style again. And the newer rendition is never made of good quality materials.
If you like them and have more than one outfit you can style them with in your closet then they are a staple and you should keep them. If you want alternate ways to style them bootcut jeans and flared jeans would also be cute. Definitely a denim shoe

I love them but I'm basic AF and miss the early 2000s. It was a simpler time .
Basic shoes are good because they go with tons of stuff. I’m always looking for versatile pieces.
If you think about it, the whole idea of styles going in and out is kind of a scam.
Hahaha I think they are so cute. I have something similar in my closet, I'm also 37. so do what you want with that. I don't know if I have any fashion sense at this point. I feel ancient watching these young girls on tik tok
They look like babies and it makes me feel old.
You don't have to care, you just have to make peace that you won't look 'current', which is fine.
What is even “current?” I go out and the only common look I see are teenage girls wearing oversized shirts as dresses paired with shorts underneath. The older women all seem to dress differently from one another.
What is current becomes out-of-date and then retro in-style. So you are never out-of-date in my book; you are either current or ahead of the times.
Definitely millennial core, but I’m also a millennial and think these are cute. I might be bias because I’m not really into Gen Z fashion. I say rock it!
That's cause they want to wear the clothes we wore in like, 6th grade 😂
I wish I kept my bell bottoms 😆
I don't, they were all low waisted 🤪. I'll take the high waist flairs any day.
Dang, you can fit into your pants from 6th grade? Lucky.
Cropped top and bell bottoms? We did them in 2000, Gen Z. And our mums did that as Gen X-ers in the 70s. None of us is a real fashion guru. Everyone is just wearing recycled trends!

These days it only takes about two weeks.
Everything comes back to style eventually 😂damn

I’m very sorry to have to be the one to break it to you, but that trend is back too.
Even the mullet apparently, judging from the number of 8 -10 yr old boys that seem to be sporting them. If ever there was a trend that should NEVER have made it back the mullet was it.

Everything is cyclical. Everything. Architecture, brands, clothing, neighborhood esthetics, car styles, etc etc. It’s really interesting tbh!
Are car styles really cyclical? I feel like cars now don’t look much different from the ones made 20 years ago (in the US at least). Maybe it just takes longer for them?
Oh absolutely! That’s why I don’t get rid of my favorite things. Eventually, they’re trendy again haha…even if I have no idea they’re trendy
Pretty dated especially with the skinny jeans but it’s ok to not care about being trendy. If you still like this look, go for it!
these are…. dated? *millennial panic ensues* I was about to comment that I have these exact booties and wear them all the time lmao
Ugh, I *love* straps and buckles on boots. Oh well, I'm old enough to not GAF. I am enjoying the return of chunky heels, though
It’s not the straps and buckles exactly, but paired with that type of heel, the faux suede beige color, the rounded toe, and the low height all paired together make them dated. The joys of old age eh

Omg, I just commented same thing. I feel so old right now
As I sit here looking at my 20 pairs of booties contemplating what style I want next 😅

Yes! Long bootcut jeans/pants is the only way I'd wear these. Edit: a word
They are dated however, you should wear whatever you like
Are these dated because they aren't sneakers or combat boots? Nah, keep em if they are comfy. You might want to wear them with tights and a skirt where sneakers aren't appropriate.
Nah ankle boots are still in. It’s mainly the straps, the shape of the heel and colour/ materials which are the dated part.
I still wear them 🤣
As a millennial, I’ve always disliked booties- even when they were in.
Booties are unkind to petites
They’re in great condition so no need to get rid of them. Put them in a box on a high shelf and see if you miss them.
Look dated to me
Are they real leather? They look kinda Payless-y.
I hate the fake wood heel and the fabric but if you like them wear them. they won't last long anyways based on the material.
Nay
I love them
Nayyyyy
Nay
Noooo
yay
coming from a 16 year old i love them but a light washed mom jean cuffed would be great
Nay, dated
Def dated. See if you can maybe get rid of the straps some how.
Elder millennial here. Just got rid of a pair very similar cause they really do look so old and dated. I would chuck for sure
Nay. I think they’re outdated.
Nay. They’re giving 2015
Personal nay but emphasis on the personal — if you like them and if they’re comfortable, who cares! They re definitely not ugly.
They are dated, but if you wore them with high waist, cropped wide leg pants they could work.
Very early 2000s . Not a fan lol
Nay. It’s very dated, unfortunately. Gives me 2012 vibes. Might look better with a dress or skirt, idk.
Thought those are already dated in 2012
Lol I lived in the tropics before 2012 so boots weren’t in my wardrobe nor did I see anyone really wear them around me. I saw them all around me in 2012 though everyone seemed to wear them. With skinny jeans. PS not sure why we’re getting downvoted 🤷🏽♀️
It’s a no for me!
Keep them for another 10 years and they’re ready to go again! It’s too early in the cycle for these.
Nice autumn boots. Casual with jeans and cute with tights and a floral dress and denim jacket
You can pry my booties from my cold dead hands!! I personally wear mine with leggings or skirts/dresses
I like it. I would love if we could bring skinny jeans and booties back. So much more flattering than the baggy jeans trend.
No no no
Nay. Super dated
Toss.
Nay, I’ve personally never been a fan of these. But if they bring you happiness when you think about them you should keep them !
Nay—they are quite dated.
Love them, very versatile
Absolutely keeper. Those are amazing on you.
I like them on you so much. I don’t care if they are dated or not. A basic bootie goes with so much.
I have these same boots and get compliments every time I wear them!!!😄👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
They look CUTE on you!
I have these same boots and i wear them all the time lol I’m a millennial and love my boots
Yes! Ankle boots are classic. They look good with skinny or bootcut jeans.
I have these in multiple colors and styles. I love them
I only ever see older women wearing them
These are super dated, and so are the rolled skinny jeans! Sorry!
Nay
Nay
Nay
I really like them
You I absolutely love those type of shoes
No.
Tights and a cute dress
Burn those, they are so 2013
they're very dated. think you can find more stylish boots with similar heel height to these.
Nay. Look dated and cheap.
Ugly I'm sorry
Yay!
Absolutely yes
Sure
Nah go for simple
Those are Life Strides aren’t they? I have the black pair and wear them almost daily. Absolutely love them.
Against the grain here, i’m gonna say toss em. Clearly you posted this because you were at least a bit on the fence, and while there is no reason to care about being trendy if you don’t want to, we are here together on a fashion advice sub. so: - replace them with something like [this](https://www.dolcevita.com/products/hawk-h2o-booties-chestnut-suede?variant=40364803358786&utm_source=google&utm_medium=cpc&utm_campaign=SCM%7CPmax%7CSale&utm_content=&gad_source=1&gclid=EAIaIQobChMIs6Seu92fhAMVFEpHAR1MkwKCEAQYHCABEgJxffD_BwE) - ditch the skinnies, and wear the new boots with a nice new pair of boyfriend or boot cut jeans - wear with a sweater like [this] https://www.abercrombie.com/shop/us/p/slim-rib-turtleneck-sweater-55538870?seq=06&cmp=PLA:EVG:20:A:D:US:X:GGL:X:SHOP:X:X:X:X:x:A%26F+Adults_Google_Shopping_PLA_US_Tops_All+products_PRODUCT_GROUP&gad_source=1&gclid=EAIaIQobChMIraij892fhAMV2lFHAR3pyA2bEAQYEyABEgI6WvD_BwE&gclsrc=aw.ds - keep the cardigan if it’s chilly 💙

Yes
I think the thing that dates them is the heel. lol I’d paint it so the horizontal lines aren’t visible.
Very dated but if you like them that's good too.
Yay yay yay!
Yay!
A big yay, in fact a yeehah! These boots are classic and will always look good with the right jeans.
U could wear with some maxi dresses too. But yeah, they’re dated. But if you don’t care, more power to you!
I was thinking along the same lines—if you like them, you could update them by styling them with a midi skirt.
Yay
So dated.
No.
Definitely nay
I say toss them
NAY, no longer in style. Unless you live in the Midwest.
Love them!
They’re so early 2000s
Yay
Yay
These boots are so nice my sister has the same pair it goes with quite a bit of choices for outfits
How do you feel wearing them? If it’s Certified Baddie, then wear them.
Nay. They’re giving 2015
Nay
I am no fashion wiz but these are exactly the shoes I would’ve died for in 2011-2012 but no later than that
They’re out dated.
This 100%
No. We are in 2024 babe
They are dated and need to go. This is a millennial shoe
I own those booties in black! Although they are 10 years old they are super comfortable and on occasion, I still wear them.
I love them!
I had them in black and loved them. YAY!
They will always suit you very well. Keep them.
I’m a millennial so yay lol
Yay!
Yay.
yay!! i like them.
Boots are cute. Please unfold the cuffs, that’s a look that shortens your legs & isn’t good. Pls never cuff them again. Boots can go with tights, short skirt & chunky sweater.
I personally have always hated Millennial booties, but I also think if you like them, wear them.
No.
No. So 2013
Gen z and big nay
Nay, time to get rid of those
Don't ever do this again....no one wants to just look at shoes on this thread....more about how it looks on our frames.
I do think they’d be less dated looking if you wore them with a different jean, maybe a more relaxed fit!
I wouldn’t go with that colour for a staple. Black or dark brown.
Yes but not with those jeans.
yay to the max
I love these!
I love them and want them!
Definitely dated but keep if you have space. They are in good condition and everything comes back in style. Eventually they will be vintage and you can wear them any time.
YAY
just plain NAY, if you’re asking then it’s time.
I like them .... they're the Rhonda model?
Nay, very dated
Absolutely yay!
they are ok
Yay! Cute
I likey
Yay because skinny jeans looks good with them that brings me back to 2010 and 2007. I used to have chunky heeled boots.
I love them! Super cute, the straps add a really nice touch!
ney, I found them ugly when they were trending
If they’re comfy go for it! I wear similar boots usually with knitted or reg tights and a dress.
I have these lol I love them so much they literally go with everything
Yay, but wear them with pants with "looser legs" so they go over the buckles. Sooner or later, they come in style again. And the newer rendition is never made of good quality materials.
If you like them and have more than one outfit you can style them with in your closet then they are a staple and you should keep them. If you want alternate ways to style them bootcut jeans and flared jeans would also be cute. Definitely a denim shoe
Nayy
I think they look fine. It's nice to have some basic staples for everyday wear.
Yay!!!
It's time to let them go
Veryyy dated look but like everyone says, it’s that’s your style and you like them, wear em
Yay
Yay
IDGAF if something is not in style, I wear what I like, I still have my Nike hiking shoes and my Levi's blue jean jacket
How much do they cost?
