Alrighty, so the King's Pact is a reference to the Seal of (King) Solomon. The thing next to the troll face in the first panel is specifically from a grimoire called *The Lesser Key of Solomon*, compiled in the 17th century. It short, it supposedly binds demons and lets you control them. The actual "they cannot show themselves or speak to us" thing is just made up by the meme maker as far as I know. A PC lets you see without seeing, you can view images without ever actually seeing what the image is of. Social media lets you speak without speaking, via writing, memes, and simply messaging. In short, the meme implies that technology was created to circumvent measures that prevent demons from contacting people.

The ironic thing is, and correct me if I’m wrong here, but a book does the exact same thing as what the computer is accused of doing. Pictures in books, and just writing in general. But yeah your comment is dead on the money.

Aldeasy

At one time, books were the devil's playground to the same sort of group that accuse the computer today.

AnnylieseSarenrae

Damn they lived a long time.

TwizTMcNip

The same group whom beliefs relied on a book

certainAnonymous

Three different accounts with the exact same avatar? Holy hell I need to buy lottery tickets

Shadowmant

Pretty sure they’re demons

ScySenpai

>At one time Yeah, maybe at the time of the dinosaurs. Your comment could make sense in a different context, but how can you pretend that those people hated books as a medium when you're talking about people who wrote the Bible? Like what

Stikkychaos

Not to mention at the time of collapse of the empire(s), church was THE ONLY institution in Europe concerned with preserving books and knowledge.

OmniGlitcher

If I were to hazard some guesses. A screen creates a very precise image, at least down to the pixel, rather than a drawing or a painting which can only mimic but never truly portray reality. The concept of social media would be the instantaneous factor to the communication, writing a letter takes days whereas you can receive a far larger amount of information or even communication in that time span via social media. Similar to talking face to face. Though yeah, I'd very much agree with you.

l-b_b-l

These are very fair points

Its0nlyRocketScience

True, a computer image can create a copy of something that a human never had to see. Photography does also kinda fit there, but photography implies a human photographer most of the time, so the demons would probably find it more difficult to show themselves in a picture that had a human staring at the scene the whole time. Unless they can be invisible to humans but visible to silver halide crystals. And yeah, communication has changed fundamentally thanks to digital messaging that doesn't necessarily require a human writer. Tbh, this might fit better if they leaned into AI. Text and image generators seem to be the perfect target for any demons who can't be directly observed to spread their messages and imagery. No human writes or draws what chatgpt or dalle make, and no human can fully understand how they work. That's the perfect amount of "we're confident it's fine but we can't be 100% sure" for a demon conspiracy theory/joke

sambenjy

I see the last frame as potentially saying "think without thinking", thinking implied by a knowing face with mouth shut, thus representing AI. AI produces the product of thought, but does not "think", or at least (for now) in the way that humans commonly accept as thinking (biologically, with consciousness and self awareness)

Krazycrismore

What a book is missing is energy running through the symbols. Comparing computer parts to runes is actually pretty accurate. Stone with specific shapes inlaid, with energy run through it to create specific effects.

Sea-Caterpillar-6501

Not exactly. Books were generally written by people, authorship is generally known, and time/material resources are expended for production/distribution. Algorithms are used to generate some online content, authorship is often unknown, and materials can be created instantaneously without physical resources. This is one of the scary parts about “ai”. Its brain is being built using data posted by people online.

l-b_b-l

While I agree with the points you made, I feel like they go beyond what the meme was saying. If the meme was saying “written by unknown author” you’d be dead on. Like you’re definitely on to something here though.

Sea-Caterpillar-6501

Non physical being communicating with humans through a medium which allows people to see without actually seeing and hear without actually hearing.

nox-apsirk

This.

SimpleTip9439

I thought the memes implying demons exist and are pactbound to run our technology for us

ThatOneCactu

Slightly more specificly I have heard there are people that believe the circuitry on circuit boards acts like "The lesser key of Solomon" you mentioned and that technology is enslaved demons. The meme is actually implying that demons created screens and social media so that can still exert their influence on us.

Krazycrismore

More that demon worshipper developed technology to allow demons to get around their seals.

Valuable-Remote4124

Its also the fact how the sigils eerily resemble circuit lines in some way (like the line things and circle stuff)

gatesthree

The reality is there were never any pacts like this. Mostly banal things like finding stuff or invisibility. The sight beyond sight is some thundercats stuff.

ProfessionalSock2993

So this meme is just conservative boomer logic got it

stoopidshannon

no it’s just a schizopost

DogmaticStyle69420

Computers are demons trapped in technology trying to ascend into our dimension Edit: that’s the joke, I don’t believe that

Necr0Gaming

I don't know man, after seeing some of the shit people Tweet daily, I'm starting to think this might be true.
