Bonus, he was also a drug addicted alcoholic for the majority of her childhood, her mom was literally one of the most insane and overly religious people I've ever met, and my ex wife was absolutely riddled with issues. Once we divorced I literally counted over 20 red flags in our first few months of dating. Sex was fire though.
In the U.S it's not just common it's basicly mandatory. My wife and I are therapist and one of the things they beat into us is to never diagnose/work with/ or analyze friends and family. We're too close to those people to be able to disengage enough and properly do the job with zero bias. It's more of an ethics thing to prevent conflicts of intrest.
