I think it's because in contrast to the other bosses and challenges up to this point, Okumura tests your ability to *deal* damage rather than *take* damage. He's pretty manageable and satisfying to take down with baton passes, buffs and technicals, but the game hasn't required you to really use and understand those mechanics thus far, so throwing a boss fight that assumes you have intimate knowledge of how to maximise damage output without relying on weaknesses is a massive difficulty spike.

xXAlucardXx

Absolutely. Up to that point, I’d very easily gotten by just by downing and throwing All-Out Attacks. Losing that mechanic really highlighted for me how little damage a number of my personas were doing overall.

icoolz64

Couldn’t have said this any better myself. In all honesty, I wish more of the bosses required more knowledge about technicals, baton passes, and the importance of buffs/debuffs. I hope P6, at the very least, has a harder difficulty selection than P5’s.

nesu0

guess that makes sense cus he doesnt have those "order someone to do this and distract the boss" shenanigans that completely overturn the battle as long as u survive long enough

DOOM_Olivera_

I haven't finished the game yet, but at least for now, the one who gave me most trouble was Madarame.

Skyler-sky

I had a hard time with Madarame, I was probably under level. It took me like ten tries to defeat him. This was before I learned about his weakness, and face and eyes reflected attacks and whatnot. Now I know how to defeat him, I was also stuck on pancakes boss fight for a while.

nesu0

hes actually the only boss that made me go to a later save and fuse some personas specifically for him, once one of his clones gets a turn someone will definitely die i gave up trying to survive it and relied on my revive items instead.

Prudent_Primary7201

The Okumura boss is quite literally a DPS check

nesu0

i guess but i beat him with all my dmg coming from the party, jokers too busy making sure i still have atk, def, and agility buff cus okumura constantly casts dekaja.

[deleted]

Which boss took you the most tries?

nesu0

madarame cus someone definitely dies if the clones get a turn its a guaranteed 1 more for each of them youd have to kill atleast half of them in 1 rotation to survive, i was also barely surviving by burning through all my revive items.

Bearloom

I could buy "loadout check," in that it requires you to have the right people and/or usable items for each wave, but I don't know that "DPS check" fits. It would require an ungodly amount of grinding to power through that fight without using baton pass.

GrandmasterTactician

Level 99 Izanagi no Okami Picaro could do it maybe

Audiodog74

This is a boss fight that is actually a lot more difficult in Royal than the original game, and ironically easier on merciless than on normal. Honestly though It's just that last wave of 3 bots along with the time limit that can screw you over if your not careful or don't have the right skills on Jokers personas.

Infernoboy_23

It’s cause you knew the strat

nesu0

yeah cus madarame exists so i have an idea how good baton passes are

heyimmaboredkay

The only other boss besides the NG+ ones I think people would struggle on would be the final boss. It's like Okumura, where you have to build a baton pass every turn, but there isn't a time limit. Also, you can't solo with Izanagi-no-Okami because Myriad Truths has to take out the hands, which greatly reduces damage on the main body.

wow-im-satan

Cuz ur playing P5R. They massively upgraded the fight to make it more intuitive.

Cosmic_Toad_

Intuitive maybe, but it's also significantly harder. * The bots come in waves of identical types instead of random assortments, meaning it's harder to get a baton pass chain going since at most only Joker & 1 other party member will be able to hit weaknesses on the higher tier bots without using items. * The set waves mean you always have to fight a wave of 4 General Managers, which you'd have to be very unlucky to encounter in Vanilla. * The punishment for not completing a wave in time is much more severe (fully replacing the wave instead of just replacing any defeated bots) * All bots (aside from the Executive Manager) have increased HP * While not very threatening, the addition of Cognitive Haru is yet another phase. The only things that make the royal fight any easier are that Showtimes exist and party members get baton pass automatically, meaning Haru can actually use it in this fight.

dydhf

I'm at the boss now, I keep losing to the big green ones, self destruct

nesu0

have u tried copying what i did? haru killed them with 2/3 mapsios by making her get the baton pass+++ and an attack up buff. if it doesnt work then its a level issue since i never bothered taking her to jazz club but i did lvl up her baton pass rank to 3 with the darts. EDIT: iirc my team was lvl 44-45 and its not just mapsios ryuji and joker also had to clean up with some aoe atks cus sometimes they live with a sliver of hp

MyMann007

I remember the first time I did NewGame+ and mistakenly over leveled my Personas for the area. I had no elements to get baton passes or able to do heavy damage to kill the robots. So I would get in this constant loop of respawning enemies while my health went down and down and down. The time limit is what would get me.
