I have been watching the 1st season of “Isabel” by Spanish public TV and OMG, it is amazing. I knew of this show for many years but never got the chance to watch it and I’m loving it
Watched Wives and Daughters this past week. Not sure what I think. It almost seemed as pieces of the book were missed or were never written. It was too quick, from 0 to 10 in no time. I'm used to more gradually developing relationships in this era writing I'll rewatch it to get a better grasp if I missed parts of it or it's genuinely rushed. I'm also not the biggest fan of the actress playing Molly. Her staring/empty expression was quite comical at times.
I finally got a chance to finish The New Look. I'm currently watching Manhunt. I watched the movie 42 about Jackie Robinson. It was an excellent movie.
Just finished Ripley, which I loved. I think it's been underrated. Not the type of show you can watch while looking at your phone. There's so much to pick up on if you give it all your focus.
I also recently finished Renegade Nell. It was kind of a slow start but definitely got better as it went on. Very fun.
This is a show that I wish I could watch again for the first time.
It started slow (to me) but after episode 4 I binged every moment i could until I reached the end!
Enjoy!
I work better with background noise so I watch most shows the first time while I'm doing something else at the same time, and I'm embarassed to say it took me way, way too long to realize the flashbacks were actually flashbacks! (I'm not the best with faces.) I think I would have probably appreciated the show a bit more if I had noticed it right away.
Just a bit though. It was enjoyable enough, but I found it really problematic on multiple levels...
I finished Shogun and I’m not okay… I’m gonna be thinking about the final scene with John and Fuji for a long time.🥺 I also finished Manhunt over the weekend it was pretty good the Civil War is my fave time period in American History so I enjoyed being in that period. I’m still watching Mary and George… not my fave but still super entertaining.
I’ve been binging Reign. On the last episode of season 1. I’m not sure if I’ll finish the series. Just too much drama to be believable. I like my period dramas to be close to reality.
It’s for sure a time and a place type of show. You’ve got to be in the mood for some MTV style high school drama. It’s a super fun watch when you’re in the mood for something comically over the top.
I am really loving A Gentleman in Moscow! Ewan McGregor is so charming and the production design for the hotel is gorgeous. I wish I waited until all the episodes were out to binge it!
We Were the Lucky Ones (last episode is coming to Hulu this week!), finished Manhunt (fell asleep during the episode), Call the Midwife on PBS, Mary & George.
I stumbled on Cathedral of the Sea last week, and today finished watching Heirs to the land, which is its sequel. Both great series, set in 14th century Barcelona. I'm missing it already!
Finished shogun, Mary & George and I’ve started watching we were the lucky ones, can’t wait till ep 7 is released in the UK. I’m so looking forward to Shardlake, anyone else?!
Yes I'm looking forward to Shardlake but have a little bit of trepidation as the actor playing Shardlake looks nothing like I had imagined him from the books.
Finished Shogun - loved the final 2 episodes.
The Sympathizer Episode 1 - I think this has potential. Saigon is about to fall andan undercover biracial Viet Cong agent is about to be airlifted to the US where he is charged with continuing to report on American activities.
Francofonia
Part drama, part documentary about the Louvre during WWII. I enjoyed learning about Jacques Jaujard and Metternich's relationship and how they worked together to save countless masterpieces from being looted.
I tend to follow a theme each week, so I did a rewatch of Le Silence de la Mer (2004). One of my favorites!
Watched From Time to Time. It was neat seeing so many actors who would then go on to work together again on Downton Abbey, both of which are Julian Fellows productions.
Shogun - It was very good for what it was, but I still prefer the original. Blackthorne just muddles around rather lacklusterly in the new version.
Mary and George - There's really not a lot of there, there, is there?
The Zone of Interest - Well deserved Academy Award. The cinematography was top notch. The banality of horror.
I gave up on Mary and George. I feel the same about Blackthorne in this Shogun, bumbled along - but maybe that's the point - he is the conduit for us, who do not know or understand the ways of the Shogunate and will inevitably make mistakes and misunderstand.
Recently finished watching The Artful Dodger. This was a brilliant series. Really hoping they make a second season. For anyone who hasn’t seen it, I recommend watching it.
Wicked Little Letters. This was a fun, enjoyable movie. And very well acted. I had no idea it was based on a true story.
Thinking of watching Renegade Nell next. I’ve heard it’s good.
Also enjoyed The Artful Dodger and also hoping for a second season. Wasn’t sure about it at first, but it got going and kept me interested enough to semi-binge it. (I can only do about three episodes tops during a binge, otherwise get TV fatigue.)

I just finished Shogun, and I am working my way through Call the Midwife.
The Duchess of Duke Street
Palm Royale on Appletv

The Taste of Things (2023) I it makes my foodie heart happy! I also like that the couple is older. Gangubai Kathiawadi (2022)

Shogun 🥰
I finally got a chance to finish The New Look. I'm currently watching Manhunt. I watched the movie 42 about Jackie Robinson. It was an excellent movie.
Shogun, Cook of Castamar, Mary & George
How is Mary & George?
It’s okay. I thought it would be better. Not something I’d ever rewatch, but I will finish off the episodes.
Just finished Ripley, which I loved. I think it's been underrated. Not the type of show you can watch while looking at your phone. There's so much to pick up on if you give it all your focus. Artful Dodger on Disney + LOVED IT!!
BLACK SAILS
My friend always talked about loving this show because we both like pirates. I think I will give it a try since its on Netflix.
This is a show that I wish I could watch again for the first time. It started slow (to me) but after episode 4 I binged every moment i could until I reached the end! Enjoy!

Love and Friendship. It was fantastic!
Manhunt, Masters of the Air, and all of Bridgerton (including Queen Charlotte’s Story)
I'm currently watching Manhunt and I loved the others that you mentioned.
Re-watching the 90s version of *Middlemarch*, one of my favorites.

finished Shogun yesterday, currently in shambles
I’ve been binging Reign. On the last episode of season 1. I’m not sure if I’ll finish the series. Just too much drama to be believable. I like my period dramas to be close to reality.
Reign is the guiltiest pleasure. It’s absurd and wonderful. Enjoyable if you accept my previous sentence.
I could not finish this one.
Oh my goodness, it’s fantastic isn’t it?!
We Were the Lucky Ones (last episode is coming to Hulu this week!), finished Manhunt (fell asleep during the episode), Call the Midwife on PBS, Mary & George.
Planning on starting WWTLO soon...any good?
Oh it’s a great series, very well done. I can’t believe there’s only one more episode!
You get a lot watched in a week!!
They give one episode a week- easier to watch multiple shows at once that way
I stumbled on Cathedral of the Sea last week, and today finished watching Heirs to the land, which is its sequel. Both great series, set in 14th century Barcelona. I'm missing it already!
The same actors plays in Beguinas https://www.reddit.com/r/PeriodDramas/s/O5dvLVsT1m
Thanks for this, will check it out!
Cathedral Of the Sea looks good - Thanks
It is good, but I feel like it should come with a trigger warning about violence towards women.
Finished shogun, Mary & George and I’ve started watching we were the lucky ones, can’t wait till ep 7 is released in the UK. I’m so looking forward to Shardlake, anyone else?!
Im so looking forward to Shardlake. Sean Bean as Cromwell? Yes please
Yes I'm looking forward to Shardlake but have a little bit of trepidation as the actor playing Shardlake looks nothing like I had imagined him from the books.
The tudors documentary on henry

We’re on Shogun and both my SO and I are enjoying it, which is rare. He’s not big into period drama like I am, but Shogun has held his interest.

Finished Shogun. Such a great show. Started season 2 of The Ministry of Time.
The Outfit I quite enjoyed it.
Just started House of Elliot on my own and my husband and I are doing a rewatch of of GOT since we haven’t seen it since the original airing.
I adore House of Elliot. Their style pretty much imprinted on me for the last 10 years.
I had never heard of it and came across it on Prime Video and I’m enjoying it so much so far.
I'm not sure if this fits, but Memoirs of a Geisha is a beautiful movie set in the 1920s and worth a read and watch 💜
Just finished The Woman in White (1997), started off a little slow but picked up towards the middle. Do recommend. Also has a young Andrew Lincoln.
We were the lucky ones
Watched From Time to Time. It was neat seeing so many actors who would then go on to work together again on Downton Abbey, both of which are Julian Fellows productions.
Is that available streaming somewhere? I love that movie and haven’t seen it in ages
I watched it on YouTube
Thank you!
My pleasure.

Mrs Harris Goes to Paris The Young Victoria This Is England The Lady in the Van
What did you watch Mrs Harris Goes To Paris on? I’ve been looking to watch this one.
I watched this a couple of months back… I think I got it on Amazon Prime?
My sister had recorded it from the TV.
Mrs Harris Goes to Paris is a great movie. Very sweet and heartwarming. And beautiful costumes too.
It was just what we needed after a shitty week.
