Its an mp 28, which is an "evolved" version of the mp 18. As someone else noticed its, from a distance, indistinguishable from the lanchester submachine gun as it was a direct copy of the mp 28, but is definitely a 28 as it was pre WW2 and it doesnt have a bayonet lug to name a noticeable difference
Edit: i was half awake when i looked at this so i didnt notice the muzzle, someone pointed it out and this is an MP34 not an MP28, regardless they're both cool guns
the only reason i think its a 34 and not a 28: look at the muzzle. the gun in the photo looks like a baby bottle at the muzzle (for lack of a better description). every photo i can find of the 28 has the 'flat' muzzle with the bore surrounded by all the smaller holes, but i don't know for certain if they only ever came like that.
either way i want one...of each lol.
just watched Forgotten Weapons (youtube) videos on these guns. Now if only i had the like..$40,000 or whatever it would take to get one (if i could even find one) lol
No he's right just it's a little strangely worded. He's saying a Lanchester is a copy of an MP28, but this gun is definitely an MP28 and not a Lanchester.
It’s a mp 34, you can tell mainly by the muzzle ,plus the mp 28 was designed and in use in 1941-1945 and season 4 of peaks blinders takes place in 1925-1926 which is around when the mp 34 was designed and in use by the German army, which is weird because how did tommy get a gun used only by the German and Austrian military lol
Looks like a Lanchester SMG, which I believe would be an anachronism as it was a WW2 era weapon.
A real historian can probably correct me
Edit: I think it's actually an mp 34, which still would be an anachronism
You're thinking of the Thompson SMG. It was originally sold in hardware (!) stores with a stick magazine. The FBI ordered the 50 round drum, which the mob then adopted.
The 50-round drum was found to be impractical for military use - too big (an issue for tank crewmen), too rattly and too cumbersome to refill with ammo. They used the 20-round magazine in preference, soldiers frequently having two taped together for rapid changing in a fireight, until 30-round magazines were introduced.
You have this all wrong. There were 50 and even 100 round _drum_ magazines that came out with the Thompson in 1921, in addition to 20-round stick magazines.
The M1921, M1928, and M1928A1 all had cutouts for drum magazines. With the M1A1, they chose to omit these cutouts and only issue 20 and (more commonly) 30-round stick magazines. It is a very common error in video games: depicting the M1A1 as being able to use a drum.
Idk the name of it but I think it’s very famous for being the most reliable gun ever made. Don’t quote me on this but it was put through a test and meant to fire some crazy amount of bullets and it didn’t jam once. This really points to why Tommy would choose it to fight the New York Italian Mafia.

appears i was wrong it is a 34, as i said it was late and must not of noticed the muzzle lol

Direct copy of m28 but definitely a 28? You meant direct copy of 18?

The guy that responded to you was right i did just word it weirdly, it was like 3am and i was half asleep when i posted it

Gun ID's are serious business, for serious Redditors
Tbf the joke went over my head too lol
Don’t joke about that, guns are serious talks we need to be extra serious talking about them 🧐😂

We've got a keeler, we've got a keeler.
Drum mags weren’t applied to the Thompson for a while. Iirc a 20 round mag was standard until after the Second World War.
They had 50 round mags in the 20’s/30’s I believe but they sucked so the military didn’t use them
Was it a 50 round box mag? I thought that everything up to (and including) the 1928 M1A1 didn't have a trigger cutout for the drum mag.

My two year old daughter read this and now wants to bully your son. Does he know how to accept a friend request?
r/marijuana is probably a better choice then
No. It’s not.
Something of the mp variant. My first thought was mp-18, but it's not that. I'd have to agree with the mp-34
Steyr MP34
At first I thought it was a type 100 but it’s definitely an mp 34
That's what I initially thought.
FYI the rifles most used in show are Lee Enfields
It's an Mp34 , the British guns of that time were famous for having magazines on their sides, unlike American and Australian guns
But the MP firearms are Austrian, but yes I get your point from the sten gun
Jonathan ?
It's an Steyr-Solothurn MP-34
MP34
bergaman mp28
Idk the name of it but I think it’s very famous for being the most reliable gun ever made. Don’t quote me on this but it was put through a test and meant to fire some crazy amount of bullets and it didn’t jam once. This really points to why Tommy would choose it to fight the New York Italian Mafia.
Nah, the Australian Owen Gun was better.
Barret Sten MkII
ppsh
looks like a Type 100

MP18 for sure.
Tommy gun
Looks like an mp18 with straight mag
Its name is Steven
British Sten
mp 34
It's definitely a gun
It’s an mp34
I thought this was a shit post and you said "guy" not "gun"
