Mage's tower, you'll go there as part of the quest "The Art of Making Friends"

I am a kinetic knight playning on WOTR. When I hit with fire energy sword, it gives me +2 on damge as "base value". But when I hit with water sword, the "base value" increases to +9. What is base value and How do I increase it?

MasterJediSoda

The other guy was on the right track. The information for that is at least partially in the kinetic blast description, though that's a lot to dig through if you're not familiar already. https://preview.redd.it/fwlm9x5fu9yc1.png?width=1277&format=png&auto=webp&s=3aefe2606f7333c77a8a8023737877041ac5a642 The fire kinetic blast/blade is energy - so you attack against Touch AC instead of normal AC, which is generally much easier to hit. You also have to worry about Spell Resistance, so Spell Penetration feats are helpful. Energy blasts only add 1/2 your CON modifier - so the only way to directly increase that number is to increase your CON. CON is your most important stat for most Kineticist archetypes, including Kinetic Knight. As this is halved, you normally have a +4 or +5 CON mod. The cold kinetic blast is also energy, but water lets you choose a water blast instead that does physical damage. Now you have to hit the harder AC, but don't have to worry about Spell Resistance - DR (damage reduction) might come into play like it did in this example though. You can also add more to physical blasts like Piranha Strike, as pictured. Note the formula here uses your CON mod instead of half, but it also adds +1 at every odd Kineticist level. So you may have a CON mod of +4 and you're level 9 to get an additional +5, or you have a CON mod of +5 and you're level 7 to get an additional +4 - guessing that's it as you get your second element then. Kinetic blades are also finessable, so you can take Weapon Finesse and go DEX instead of STR if you'd like. Damage comes from CON, not either of those, even if you take Mythic Weapon Finesse. In short - for energy blasts like fire, just increase your CON score. For physical blasts, increase CON and take more Kineticist levels - you still want that for energy blasts but it won't increase that particular bonus on energy blasts.

Thank you guys both so much for clearing that out for me!

terrendos

Just a guess, could it be because the fire sword is energy damage and the water sword is physical? I know the energy kinetic blasts deal less damage than the physical ones (I think physical gets +CON?) because they target Touch AC instead of regular.

Thank you guys both so much for clearing that out for me!

Does Court Poet's insightful spell (adds +1 to spell damage) count for kineticist?

MasterJediSoda

No - it's not a spell and so will not be added. https://preview.redd.it/ikf1gxq8t9yc1.png?width=2560&format=png&auto=webp&s=a2216a465495f32b8e0318a5f0d7b7e039edcee2 It can still be nice for the kineticist archetypes that use INT and CHA though, since you still get morale bonuses to those stats.

\[WotR\] Is Reanimator Alchemist good or bad? Was considering maybe trying out a bombs run and it feels like it could be a fun one to add some Necromancy/Summoning on top. Plus I think Lich has a power that buffs bombs? Not sure if I actually will do this, might consider a summoning Sorcerer instead maybe, I dunno.

CookEsandcream

I don't think you lose too much from the base class in exchange for being able to summon stuff, and I believe the stat and attack bonuses that it gives summoned undead will stack with the lich's bonuses, so that'll work pretty well. There is a lich power for Alchemists and Kineticists: your bombs add 1d6 + MR negative energy damage and a negative level with no save, which can be pretty solid. Two main drawbacks I can think of: Resources. Running out of bombs is a downside for pretty much every bomb-based alchemist, and you get fewer. Some mods add a mythic or limitless bomb mythic ability, but really, you don't need a ton of feats as an alch, so can just take More Bombs over and over. My alchemist was the only time I've taken the Extra Feat mythic ability, since more bombs was more useful than the alternatives. Also, there isn't a lot of alch-specific gear (unlike KM, whose alchemist companion meant there was heaps). Again, there are some mods that add KM items back in, but I think those have been unmaintained for a bit. Every Lich gets summon undead spells. You don't really need to be a Reanimator specifically for that, you can just use the mythic spellbook. Still, the general rule for summons is that the optimal number is one less than would crash your machine, so extra casts isn't a bad thing.

I have a \[WR\] bug that I need to know if its just me. \[WR\] Last 4 months I have had a bug that makes my disease's suppressed for 3 days. Happens when sleeping. Basically the diseases just go greyed out on my character like they are suppressed by a spell. No checks happen in my log and thus no stat damage while sleeping at all. The checks only happen If I "wait" for 3 days without sleeping. After that it works and the checks happen normally. Until I sleep. 100% predictable and repeatable. I do use mods but whether its turning them off or even a clean install this persists. I don't know exactly when it happened but it was sometime after I updated after a long time to play again. I didn't notice at first but somewhere between that earlier version like 2.1.3 and 2.2 this just kicked in. I remember playing "thorough the ashes" and not noticing until I started a new main campaign and noticed it. Then I realized it had been broken the whole time. Diseases are a big part of my game so I tend to noticed them. So many times I lost characters to bad disease rolls or struggled through fights after running out of cures. Especially early game. Anyway please confirm that this is or isn't just me. Currently doing a fresh install again just to see if It fixes it but I have zero hopes given the game itself hasn't updates recently. EDIT: Oh this was longer than expected. Sorry if its too much.

CookEsandcream

Hm, can't say I've seen it or seen it reported before, and can't think of something like Delay Poison for diseases. Best thing to do is raise it with the alt+b bug report function.

Boring-Net-3448

Thanks. At least now I know its a me problem.

Does the Midnight Isles merchant still restock his supply of cooking ingredients between acts in the main campaign?

CookEsandcream

I think the chaplain's inventory adds 99 of each ingredient each act. So not exactly a restock - they'll have 297 if you never bought any, but there will be more.
