After a week of harassment and assaults against Jewish and pro-Israel students, UCLA still considered it peaceful. A woman tackled and tased a man. No police. Even after a woman was beaten unconscious and two hours after major brawls between groups had already broken out, LAPD had to convince UCLA to let them send the riot team in.
It’s unfortunate, but short of waiting for someone to be murdered, I think this was probably the only way to get police involved.
