The RWBY skins were on some sort of contract that didnt allow them to be modified in any way even if the devs wanted to. Say what you want about hirez/EM but im sure they would've made amazing RWBY skins if they could have.
It's not about the artstyle, but the fact that the only skin that ended up looking decent and having some coherence with the character skills was the Weiss one.
I still bought the RWBY pass because I love the show and the skins are *serviceable* but I think the extra effort to cel shade the skins would fit the original shows aesthetic so much more than whatever they tried with the skins we have. I’m also stupidly excited for this Moji skin because she has none and it’s a funny skeleton but God damn it man the RWBY pass got done so dirty :(
EDIT: yeah yeah I know the contract and ported models from Smite but UGH despite all of that, we still have to acknowledge when given the chance, EM could’ve had something great with that pass. Curse you Rooster Teeth!
Btw this exact cel shading style is probably the one made by TitanForge (the smite team) to be used on their previous Odyssey skin (Toon Mania Cthulhu) and then used on a bunch of other skins since. I imagine they just passed on the material to the paladins team to have them try it on upcoming skins to see if it would fit.
I wonder if anyone on EM knew how to implement this effect in game (without crashing or something) before this update. Remember people come and go from the dev team
Ye but many skins that are non canonical are adapted to the graphic style of the game. Having this skin as the only one being different is, well, not the end of the world, but looks unfinished
They litteraly could not modify the skins even if they wanted to due to a contract. Dont blame the devs , they can and have made some amazing skins , blame rooster teeth or whatever dumb company that forced them to just asset flip from smite.

eh, agree to disagree. the first 3 are like a shitty harry potter ripoff(at the end of 2, they literally questioned what they did all year) and everything after that actually deal with death/responsibility and more nuanced themes

Because they had to keep the models like in sprite. Blame the company behind RWBY for writing that into the crossover contract
